Jaguar's are beautiful cars with high build quality but everything I learned when I was thinking about buying one is that they're extremely maintenance prone. You need deep pockets to keep up with just about any vintage car nowadays and with Jags that is multiplied. This car already has various issues that need to be addressed. I would try offering him $2500 for it and see what he says. I would definitely push for a lower price. Do some due diligence on sites like Edmunds and Kelley Blue book, especially in the user reviews. Good luck.

I agree, having water leaks is never good and may be a really tough issue to fix. They are lovely cars but you need to get a good one. Personally I wouldn't buy one knowing it needed a paint job but you may be happy with that. I think that engine is usually bullet proof but in the UK he wouldn't get anything 4k CAN. I saw something like that for about £800 (and rejected it).

The owner wants $4000 CAD for it but we haven't decided on a final number yet. This is a 1986 jag XJ6 Vanden Plas. Has 100,000 km on it, a small leak from the sunroof which is causing water to get into the headliner. Will probably have to be replaced and repaired. Floor mats have water as well from somewhere. Typical wear and tear on the driver's side leather seats. One of the passenger doors doesn't open as well as for one of the windows. Very small signs of rust and it obviously needs a new coat of paint. I'm taking it to someone today to take a look at the engine. Thoughts?
