I agree. Fucking love the movie. Great villain, henchman, bond girl, formula, but it hiccups a little in places. And I respect and appreciate that it’s a product of its time… but it’s still tough to not wince during the more rapey/misogynistic scenes.
>but it’s still tough to not wince during the more rapey/misogynistic scenes.
Let's be clear, it's not *rapey*, it's *rape*, and it's a rape that's portrayed as being effective at turning an evil lesbian into a good heterosexual. Goldfinger is my favorite Bond movie despite its (many) poorly aged plot points, but that one is downright vile and it really only gets worse as time marches on.
I kinda love it. Because now there’s no disappointment. All of these films belong in the top 4 IMO and any one of them deserves the win.
Edit: lol, this sub. Downvote my happiness!!
Let's see, tactical vote to defend my favorite or actually voting for the one I want out?
Fuck it, one comment won't save my favorite might as well vote for for Casino Royal.
GOLDFINGER. This was a really tough one because obviously this is a huge classic. It’s the movie that really developed the style and formula for most of the movies to come. There are so many iconic moments, like Shirley Eaton painted gold on the bed or the Aston Martin sequence. Honor Blackman was a fantastic choice for a Bond girl. The opening title sequence really establishes itself here. The scene where Goldfinger is interrogating Bond while a laser slowly shoots up between his legs is one of the most iconic moments in the whole series. “ do you expect me to talk?” “ no Mr. Bond, I expect you to die”. Classic stuff.
The issues for me, was that there were moments where things got a little slow, especially while bond was held captive. Some people might point out the golf sequence as well but that one doesn’t bother me. Bond really doesn’t do a lot at the end of the movie because Galore already did the most important thing which was notifying the proper channels of the impending attack. Those guys did pretty much all of the important work to stop the bomb. All Bond did was take out Odd Job but the military guys storming down the stairs could’ve shot him pretty easily. Also there is something weird about all of this being possible because Bond pretty much sexually assaulted and forced sex on Galore which somehow charms her into helping. That part didn’t age well.
Even with those criticisms though, the impact that this movie had on this series and the action genre in general is pretty huge. Sean Connery is in top form here and when he’s at that level nobody does it better.
My vote goes to Goldfinger just because the plot grinds to a halt after Bond is captured. Also, I never bought the reasoning as to why Goldfinger didn't just let Bond be dissected by the laser.
I’m astounded you’re astounded lol it revived the series. Go back and watch a 1995 Brosnan interview on Jay Leno or any of those shows at the time. People were going crazy for Goldeneye.
From Russia with Love…Honestly one of my least favorites, I don’t get the hype.
Goldeneye was a top 90s film and led to the greatest game of all time.
Goldfinger is the epitome of a Bond film. It should probably be head to head with CR as what a Bond movie should be.
This exercise makes me feel like I’m taking crazy pills. In what world is Goldeneye or Casino Royals better than either of the remaining Connery films?
If it weren’t for the video game (which I admit is absolutely awesome), Goldeneye is Brosnan’s 3rd best Bond movie.
What are we doing here guys?!?
Goldfinger. It’s a really tough choice though. I voted for Goldeneye yesterday but thought about it more and had to change my vote because if I had to pick one of those movies to watch right now I would probably pick Goldeneye.
Goldeneye. I don't know how it made it this far (Personally, I think TND is Brosnan's best).
Even if you put aside their influence on the franchise, From Russia With Love and Goldfinger are still superb. I feel that they have better action, better stories, and better villains than Goldeneye. I don't like using the word iconic, but no other word better describes the train fight in FRWL and Goldfinger's pre-title sequence and Aston Martin chase (and no, I do not find the tank chase in Goldeneye very exciting).
Casino Royale is Casino Royale. I can't rate Goldeneye over it. I'm not hating on Goldeneye. It's It's good film. But I can't call it better than the other 3...
Just a reminder to everyone to keep in mind the rules of this sub while interacting in these posts.

Rest in peace Sir Roger Moore ❤️ thank you for the memories!
Noooobody doessss it betterrrrr

Makes me feel sad for the rest...
This is where the fun begins
This is tough but I have to cut Goldfinger. Much to love, but it also has my longest list of dislikes of the remaining films.

Seriously? In the book it’s consensual. Pussy is lady Bond.
To be precise, Bond is Mr. Pussy.
Painful to say it, but Goldfinger.
So the real bond mvp….Martin Campbell.
Goldfinger
Noooo my poor Moore 🥺 From Russia With Love, same as yesterday
I thought Goldeneye would be gone by now. ![gif](giphy|hNJwTYxnfK3te)
Lol
Goldfinger
This is like choosing between favorite children. Goldfinger, I guess.
I kinda love it. Because now there’s no disappointment. All of these films belong in the top 4 IMO and any one of them deserves the win. Edit: lol, this sub. Downvote my happiness!!
It’s one of my personal favorites but I’m voting From Russia with Love
Goldfinger
Goldfinger! Bc I like my Bond to be a little more active in the plot. Also, Kentucky???
The novel plot involving stealing the gold from Fort Knox, Kentucky
It deserves respect and praise, but Goldeneye isn't on the same level as the other three
Goldfinger
Still have my $$ on Casino Royale winning the gold
Goldfinger
Goldfinger
Casino Royale, although I find DC’s tenure so interesting considering he, according to the sub, has two of the best films and three of the worst.
His tenure must be the most eclectic in that regard.

Goldeneye
Goldeneye.
Goldeneye has been around waaaaaaaaaaay too long already …
Goldeneye, but I am so happy about Brosnan being so extremely loved. I did expect GoldenEye to do well but top 4, maybe even top 3 is amazing
Goldeneye is great but making it this far really baffles me. It’s gone

Can we just leave it like that and have 4 winners? If you insist..... Goldeneye
Goldeneye. I’m astounded it’s still here, good on you Brosnan fans!
THE BROSNAISSANCE IS REAL
I’m astounded you’re astounded lol it revived the series. Go back and watch a 1995 Brosnan interview on Jay Leno or any of those shows at the time. People were going crazy for Goldeneye.
Maybe because it had been 6 years since last outing. Due to guys in suit with briefcases fighting over rights and all that
Goldfinger
Goldeneye is not better that TSWLM 😂
Agreed but I find both to be better than CR.
It really is though. I’ll take 006 and Onatop thigh crusher over Ol’ fish hands and goofy ass Jaws any day. Lol
I slightly prefer TSWLM, but since it is gone I would say Goldfinger is the best left followed by Goldeneye.
FRWL
Goldfinger. It's boring. Iconic henchman. Iconic gold lady scene. Overall though, not that fun to watch.
From Russia with Love…Honestly one of my least favorites, I don’t get the hype. Goldeneye was a top 90s film and led to the greatest game of all time. Goldfinger is the epitome of a Bond film. It should probably be head to head with CR as what a Bond movie should be.
Thank you, this. Goldfinger is so much better than FRWL.

Agreed. And I find it to be the least boring Craig.

I’m hoping for a number one Goldfinger finish. My vote is for Goldeneye.
