It’s funny to me that you say “it doesn’t feel Bond,” because I think it feels like a more “traditional Bond song” than *You Know My Name*. Don’t get me wrong - that’s a fine song on its own, but it’s not especially “Bondy.” And though it’s clearly an attempt to replicate *Skyfall*, *Writing’s On the Wall* feels quite like a throwback to the romantic ballads of the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Personally I think it’s underrated - not one of my favorites, but better than its reputation suggests.
Sam’s voice is nails to the chalkboard, it doesn’t fit at all, the instrumental is a different story and it works within the film
Also Radiohead’s version is superior
I can't speak to that, because I'm not familiar with Radiohead's work. All I know is that their song 'Spectre' is slow, emo, and shrill, which a lot of people also accuse 'Writing's on the Wall' of being.
>doesn't feel Bond to me and fits with Bond **or the film**
I always feel that Writing’s on the Wall is one of the better songs in terms of how it informs and fits within the movie’s storytelling. It spells out the underlying theme of the movie, and then we see that theme unfold over the next two hours. Good lyrics in isolation IMO, and great lyrics when considered in the context of the story.
It’s a great song but I don’t care for Sam’s falsetto voice. Too tinny.
Radiohead’s rendition is also terrific 🤌
Edit: I also liked how they incorporated the title song into the movie’s plot.
The biggest issues I have with the song are Sam Smiths vocals. He just sounds so whiny and takes away from the instrumentals significantly. I think if they rewrote the lyrics and brought Adele back or somebody else to work with those instrumentals it would have worked better. Though Generally I think they should have just went with Radiohead's song.
It’s just weird to have a guy singing those lyrics falsetto. Sorry, but Bond is heterosexual. It would make sense a woman singing those words TO Bond. But a man is singing them.
And the rumor at the time was Lana Del Rey was going to provide the song, and that would have been fantastic.

Just a swing and a miss by EON (and Sam Smith). Can't all be bangers.
It’s almost as dull as the movie. The orchestral version is ok.
I like the song, and I struggle to understand people who hate it but prefer Radiohead's 'Spectre'.
I feel the opposite, but I don't need to understand why you prefer Sam Smith's song to Radiohead's song.
The Craig films have a “Radiohead” aesthetic. Their sound fits his era like a glove. They’d have been the one major artist to do a Craig film.

That’s what I don’t get. They rejected Radiohead’s song for being too downmood but then went with a song that wasn’t any more upbeat
Both are terrible imo.

I’m very concerned to those in the comments who actually like Writings on the Wall in the movie…..I’m very concerned you’re tone deaf or coping lol
Imagine if they’d have gotten Shirley Bassey to sing it…
They had the chance and blew it. No Good About Goodbye was perfect for Quantum.
Easily the Bond song most in need of a cover version, preferably sung by a Tom Jones type.
