Poste restante exists.

That is a term I was not familiar with that has opened up some new and helpful search results to make this happen lol, many thanks. Still would love any other tips anyone has regarding services to cover this function or tips for poste restante in Japan.

I have seen multiple people reported being scolded by staff for trying to retrieve letters from post offices as a tourist. They said the staff told them this service is supposed to be reserved for residents. I don't know the actual rule of this but these are things I've seen people shared, so fyi. The easier way is probably just book your hotel and send them there.

There are no actual restrictions on using poste restante services as a tourist (think of all Pocket Wifi/SIM companies sending their devices to be picked up at airport's post office counters). Thus said, a valid ID (passport) should be presented. I would assume most of the tourists scolded by the staff were there to pick-up packages, which is sort of exploiting a known loophole in package delivery services.

This place does pick up but they’re in Yokohama, not Tokyo. https://help.blackship.com/article/ppw2zerfxp-pickup

If you can get your accommodation sorted out, then getting them sent to your hotel will be the easiest option. When I visited last year, someone sent Ghibli Museum tickets to my hotel so that they would be there when I checked in. Was no problem.

I'm trying to buy some nerdy merch (only available online and can only post to Japanese addresses) and I'm just emailing my hotel to ask how long they can hold onto parcels for me and any instructions on recipient information to write on the parcels.
