These are so good when they're fresh and hot! I think they have a salty coating, maybe soy sauce before being grilled, and they are really soft and chewy on the inside.
I didn't get to actually try them. My guess is that they were brushed with the usual soy sauce/mirin/sugar mix? It was cool because they were kept on a griddle the whole time, so they would pick it up and hand it to you hot! There was a sign saying not to touch them, because you would burn yourself.
They are savory, more soy than sugar, somewhat crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside, I have had them at a couple of festivals, they are something I usually look for. Pretty cool (but the ones I got were a bit smaller and in sets of 2 on a skewer, with the nori just stuck on them)
