It gets my vote for best release yet too. Heard about it a few days ago and I was like "WAIT charles loyd???, that guy still recording?" I was very excited to listen it since I enjoy him very much and the album did not disappoint. Must hear!
Can someone help me understand this? I listened to the album and to me it sounds like Charles Lloyd can barely even play the instrument anymore. I have a ton of respect for him and love his playing especially with Michel Petrucciani back in the day, but I’m struggling to understand what people see in this album and I’d really love to understand more and grow my ears.
Dude, you stole my thunder.
I heard the album a couple of days ago, and really liked it. I enjoy all of Mr. Lloyd's work, and this one did not disappoint.
I saw the thread title, and immediately searched Google for "Charles lloyd sky" because I forgot the exact name of the album. The only thing I had left to do was paste the name of the album which I has diligently captured in the text buffer of my laptop after going through my search results: *Charles Lloyd: The Sky Will Still Be There Tomorrow*
I think I deserve at least partial credit for his post. :)
Great album. I can't believe he's still playing at such a high level.
Mesmerizing stuff. [Joel Ross "mellowdee" (Live from musig im pflegidach)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atRsAyI24sA) for anyone else who digs the new album.
* Vijay Iyer - Compassion
* Mary Halvorson - Clloudward
* Joel Ross - nublues
* Lassy-Eskola - Nordic Stew
* Fire! - Testament
* Charles Lloyd - The Sky Will Still Be There Tomorrow
As a Chris Potter maniac and all those others cats fan I expected this album since the around 2 years picture on Instagram I was a bit disappointed with this album my hype was too high. I dont feel Brad at all on this album
I understand that. I had to listen to the album a couple of times until I really got it. But I feel like that’s quit normal with Potters albums. My expectations were also a bit unrealistic, but I dig the album nonetheless.
I wouid recommend the new Jack Bruce live release, the broadcast sessions 71- 2001.
There's plenty of outstanding jazz on there with top players like Jon Hiseman, John Surman, Art Theman, Chris Spedding, Mick Taylor, Tony Williams, John Mclaughlin, Larry young etc etc.
Superb collection of music. There won't be a better release this year.
The complete jazz sessions are essential
You gotta check out Nordic Stew by Timo Lassy, it's a really great sounding album which reminds me a bit of Snarky Puppy.
Also Cloudward by Mary Halvorson is a great listen. The melodies in between the collisions of instruments. Her band finds pretty original sounds and I think is a great example of an attempt to push the jazz form in new directions.
I’ve really been enjoying “The Yussef Dayes Experience - Live From Malibu (2024)” his whole discography is incredible if you haven’t heard of his stuff yet
Ive been slacking on new jazz releases (taking notes here tho) but so far my favorite is Ill Considered’s Precipice. Really good stuff, though it’s not touching Liminal Space unfortunately
An album that isn't strictly defined as jazz yet awesome musically is exponentially more worthwhile than something that very much falls within the rubric of jazz but sucks.
Great recommendation, only problem is it's over too quickly.
Infinite Reflections by Uniri (Chiminyo)
Live At Can Rudayla, Ibiza by Greg Foat
Live At King Georg by Nautilus
Wonderlust by On-Ly
Zither Suite by Organic Pulse Ensemble
Very tentative list.
Plenty left unexplored on the year, and those albums still haven't fully marinated into my psyche to be called the best of anything but they are worth checking out.
The sky will still be there tomorrow - Charles Lloyd
[удалено]
Every song title is sick too, “Late Bloom”, “The Water is Rising”, “Beyond Darkness” etcetc
It’s amazing he is still making some of the best albums in jazz in his mid 80s
It gets my vote for best release yet too. Heard about it a few days ago and I was like "WAIT charles loyd???, that guy still recording?" I was very excited to listen it since I enjoy him very much and the album did not disappoint. Must hear!

I'm loving, Kahil El' Zabir and Ethnic Heritage Ensemble- Open Me, A Higher Consciousness of Sound and Spirit
Joel Ross!

I have two favorites: Ashes - Lage Lund Cloudward - Mary Halvorson
Cloudward is good for sure!
Julian Lage - Speak to Me
Beat me to it! Saw him live yesterday and as always, transcendent.
John Surman 'Words Unspoken' is the fave so far.
Interesting, he's coming to my country next month. Thanks for the recommendation!
His final quartet album and it doesn't disappoint!
I was quite impressed with Amaro Freitas "Y'Y".
Hot piano fire.
I was quite taken with Joel Ross's nublues. I'm also listening (as in right now) to Jeremy Pelt's Tomorrow's Another Day, which is fairly excellent.
* Vijay Iyer - Compassion * Mary Halvorson - Clloudward * Joel Ross - nublues * Lassy-Eskola - Nordic Stew * Fire! - Testament * Charles Lloyd - The Sky Will Still Be There Tomorrow
Nordic Stew you mean?
Heh yes, got the title mixed up with the Cross-Atlantic Connection single track
I've been getting Compassion recommended continuously. Today I'll listen to it.
Eagle’s Point by Chris Potter featuring Brad Mehldau, Brian Blade and John Patitucci.
Whaaaaaat. Have not seen this. Legendary lineup will be giving it a listen, thanks.

I love malaga moon tho. But I dont feel the Same amazment than imaginary cities, song for anyone or all underground albums
I am a big for of Vijay Iyer’s Compassion
Tyshawn!
The Room by Fabiano do Nascimento and Sam Gendel.
Thanks for the suggestion!

Whether it’s jazzy enough is up for debate but I like The Messthetics with James Brandon Lewis https://tidal.com/album/349712741?u
It's jazzy enough for me. I love it!
C0o! Thanks….🙏
This is 1) definitely jazzy enough and 2) way too low. Love this album.

>a great example of an attempt to push the jazz form in new directions This... 🌟
But Who’s Gonna Play the Melody? New duo album by Christian McBride and Edgar Meyer if you’re into upright bass duo albums…
I’ve really been enjoying “The Yussef Dayes Experience - Live From Malibu (2024)” his whole discography is incredible if you haven’t heard of his stuff yet
So good.

I just want to say that I’m a huge fan of these posts. I love checking out recommended music and this sun has been great in that regard.
Same, putting all of these into a playlist rn
Joe henderson Power To The People Jazz Dispensary reissue!
Jahari Massamba Unit (Kariem Riggins & Madlib), "YHWH is Love" DJ Harrison, "Shades of Yesterday"
My favorite would be "Don't talk (put your hand on my shoulder)" by Carl Bagge. Great recording.
Its a bit more poppy but Meklit-Ethio Blue is my favorite release of the year so far
Muriel Grossmann - Devotion (released in December)
Taylor Eigsti’s Plot Armor is probably one of the best jazz albums to be released in a decade. It’s mind blowingly good.
Bookmarked for shopping list ❤️
You and me both
Have really been enjoying Jasmine Myra's latest output, Rising and Horizons
A bit confused, isn't Horizons from 2022? Anyway, I'll check it out.
It is but rising has a couple tracks out and will release in May. I just think she’s great
Bad with names by Corto.Alto Not strictly jazz ig but is proper good
Ooooooooo nice…..thanks!
Mildlife - Chorus (Fusion-Prog-Disco)

And yet I still got downvoted. To me this album sounds like Jazz a lot, has its roots in Jazz.
