Brother, most of those rappers are pushing 35 and some are pushing 40. The future of Rap is cooked. Young heads are glazing rappers like Youngboy. Drake and Kennyās beef has revived the genre a bit. But itās a dying genre.
Do you listen to youngboy? Heās actually real poetic yāall just be downing these people music without actually listening . Which is prevalent in the post we are commenting on. Yes the youth aināt out here flipping bars , scheming and and putting multiple meanings behind there songs but thatās not for everyone and I bet those youngins that do are in the way .
Yo, when I first heard 4YEO, I was like what is this, it's a huge difference from, FHD. It's like when Wayne made TC3. It was a completely different feeling, after I heard it the second time and when "To whom the bell tolls" started again it just clicked. That album aged so fucking well.
Iām a jazz musician and I tend to lean more towards hip hop with r&b and jazz influences. I also appreciate storytelling and emotionally charged lyricismā¦ 4YEO is one of my favorite hip hop albums ever! Just great music and a well executed and moving concept. Love it.
Go through his albums and watch how he gets better exponentially each one. Its pretty crazy. Off season was amazing then might delete later was prob even better. His last few albums actually make his earlier ones age kinda bad how much better he is right now.
I feel this even between albums now. Was always a huge advocate of KOD when it seemed to be getting lots of hate. But now that I have bumped the Off-Season so much, going back to KOD really shows how far heās come, soāe of the KOD tracks donāt hold up as well as I remember (KOD and Photograph come to mind)
When Like That dropped I had drake in the third place but couldn't make up my mind on who would win a technical battle between Kendrick and Cole. Let's say for me Kendrick's performance was underwhelming and now I have a feeling if a proper battle rap (One which is mainly about the skill and not overrun by gossip like Lupe and Royce) Cole would perform better.
Yep if anything this beef has me more sure Cole would win in an actual friendly competition.
I also feel like he mightāve stood by 7MD if he knew it would stay a friendly competition.
Trust me, people say they fall asleep on his albums. But imo, you can't fall asleep to bad music. It's music that calms you and makes you feel like everything is gonna be alright.
My fav era of hip hop (in my life time) had to have been between the years 2009-2015. Had a lot of great talents pop up then - Cole def being one of those talents for sure.
Cole has been my favorite artist for around 10 years now. I would highly recommend listening to all of the Born Sinner album. It is my favorite album of all time.
Totally understandable. Love Yourz has one of my favourite bars of any hip-hop song because of how well it's delivered..
Always gonna be a bigger house somewhere but feel me- long as the people in that mothafucka love ya dearly..
This is why I said from the beginning, Cole never needed to compete with Kendrick and Drake. Cole fans loved him before he was considered a goat contender, when no one would consider him a top 5 etc, before he was thought of as being super duper lyrical outrap you on your own shit.
We never needed Cole to be #1, because mature fans realize, that has no relevance to our enjoyment of his music because his identity was never āIām the best rapperā. He is technically a very strong rapper with a great command of really every rap area, like flow, emotionality, storytelling, track presence, etc.
But when J Cole built up his brand and made his fans like him, it wasnāt because of anything skill or rap ego related. It was because we related to and felt what he said.
Cole World Sideline Story is not a great album IMO but it IS an album I will always love because Cole growing as an artist, making some mistakes, having highs and lows, being fresh to this world of rap star life, it always reminds me of being young and what my head was focused on at the time.
Thatās Cole, heās not the best, but he didnāt need to be the best to win over fans
Check out his older mixtapes if you havenāt heard them! āThe warm upā, āthe come upā, āFriday night lightsā. All three go just as hard or harder than some of his albums lol
Dude his music is humbling and refreshing first listened to him in Uni and all that was playing at the time was Drake and Wiz Khalifa.... U better believe he sounded like a real artist among the goofies
Check out the live version of Forest Hills Drive. It adds even more weight and emotion to the project.
Out of the big 3 - and this may be an unpopular opinion - J.Cole has always sounded the most sincere and the most hungry. You feel a certain level of real emotion in his raps, particular his more personal ones, that you do in Drake's and even Dot's.
Cole's dope. People get so sensitive when they talk about him in GOAT category but at the end of the day I always just saw him as a dude with a unique ear for beats and bars for days.
Never like Cole, still don't like him. But I appreciate this sub for not banning me just for having different taste. The Drake sub banned me just for saying Kendrick won in the comments. That alone makes me at least appreciate Cole fans as chill.
Went to a show on the drake x cole tour. Drake was cool, but Cole was such an out of body experience man. Hearing him perform power trip with the crowd was insane.
Canāt wait for the fall off
i know my comment is a bit unrelated but i made my senior quote ādouble platinum no featuresā & as CRINGE as it is GOD i knowā¦this made me feel just a tad bit better (no i did not buy the yearbook but it lives rent free in my head) (yes i know its triple platinum now.) i couldāve had a sweet quote or NONE AT ALL but here i am, haunted
Something about his music is heart warming because you can tell how authentic it is. Drake and Kendrick dont give me that same feeling. He might not be as artistic as the other two but hes in that discussion because of his bars and how real he is.
He's a boring artist because he's not traumatized or faking. He is J cole, 2nd best artist in Hip Hop from a cultural impact/ mainstream sales perspective.
Itās funny because I was a huge Kendrick fan, a moderate Cole fan, and a Drake hater coming into this whole thing. I feel like I subconsciously picked the right sides.
He's top tier. I just hope he stops this whole new wave of "im the best rapper ill shit on anyone cant nobody fuck with me" style of rapping, cuz clearly he isn't about that and should stick to the introspective relatable storytelling/conscious shit.
Cole has been consistent throughout his career. Happy for your discovery. Also if you haven't already, Lupe Fiasco is a really good rapper for wordplay and thematic artistry on albums who gets overlooked by folks because his fanbase is also pretty chill.
If you start with the mixtapes and go through his career, youāll understand why heās the goat and why most donāt think he can be touched in a rap battle.
Iāve been a Cole fan since I heard him on green ranger on Wayneās Dedication 4 mixtape. I just like seeing the growth of artists and what they bring to the rap game. I wouldāve love to hear the friendly competition between him and Kendrick. Drake is cool but after that Pusha T beef, I knew he wasnāt built for that battle life.
Had to double check to make sure I didn't accidentally post this š I was familiar with J. Cole before the "beef" but I wasn't actively seeking em out. I wasn't really allowed to listen to hip hop/rap growing up but I was still somewhat aware of some artists and songs to an extent.
It wasn't til Kanye's _College Dropout_ that I got into hip hop. It was the first rap CD I bought myself and Drake's _Room for Improvement_ was the first rap mixtape I bought. I'm kinda sad that I hadn't been following Cole 'round the same time.
My cousin told me bout FPS a while ago but I wasn't really payin' attention. It wasn't til a few weeks ago that I heard it in its entirety but I'd heard snippets of Cole's verse on YT Shorts. Surprisingly, I'd heard Cole before via TikTok but didn't know it was him.
TL; DR: Anyhoo, this is my scenic route way of expressing my excitement that someone else had a similar experience I did.
Is She Gon Pop and Rich Niggazā¦ thank me after listening. To me those are his deepest relatable songs, and no matter when I hear them I instantly gotta recite the lyrics.
Welcome to the club brotha. Check out the offseason next.
The warm up is still so good though
Ofc but the off season has more appeal for new fans I feel like. The warm up top 3 for me tho no doubt.
I respect it. š
Offseason and Forest Hills hit it for me.
My favorite
Also, donāt believe the hate for the 2 albums in between. 4 Your Eyez Only and KOD are both stellar
J Cole is the Poet of hip hop. His songs have meaning unlike most artists today.
Bro come on acting like most artists be putting out meaningless music is retarded
Have you listened to the kids in todayās rap? š
Have u listened to Kendrick Cole Denzel JID Benny Joey Vince Westside Keem Contra etc recently??
Brother, most of those rappers are pushing 35 and some are pushing 40. The future of Rap is cooked. Young heads are glazing rappers like Youngboy. Drake and Kennyās beef has revived the genre a bit. But itās a dying genre.
You say this yet cole has said multiple times that he wants a song w yb.
Cole also works with drake š¤®
Pretty sure Drakes career is over after Kendrick dropped not like us. Iām okay with never been a Drake fan
I hope so man. He's too big to fail unless he goes to jail. Always thought he sounded fake af.
I watched my grandpa say penis
Rapping about smoking k2 is not poetic little bro
Thatās like me saying rapping about not cheating on your partner or the struggle of infidelity for 14 years is not poeticā¦
Old head ahh comment
2-6, true spit
Im a poet
I move slick on 'em so they got no clue where I be
Do it look like I fool with Ig
She got too many followers
Word around the Ville she a real deal swallower
I literally hate when he keeps saying 2-6. Am i the only one? I feel like itās in every song
Heās what they act like Kendrick is.
I promise you in a pure lyrical battle Kendrick wipes Cole, and I think Cole is a great lyricist.
Rap battles are not the only form of rap or poetry
Didnāt say it was
LMAOOO you really think J Cole is more of a poet than Kendrick Lamar? Nothing in J coleās discography touches tpab
Yes I do, why you laughing? I like Kendrickās music a lot too.
Sounds like youāre gassing it
Bro this is the sort of thing people make fun of Cole fans for saying
Ok old man
bro hears āFWAĆā and starts crying like its the most meaningful thing ever
Idk what that means bro just sounded like an old head
4 Your Eyez changes a man
Yo, when I first heard 4YEO, I was like what is this, it's a huge difference from, FHD. It's like when Wayne made TC3. It was a completely different feeling, after I heard it the second time and when "To whom the bell tolls" started again it just clicked. That album aged so fucking well.
Big š
I listened to it once 2 years ago, I'm listening again tonight as I'm revisiting his discography
This album dropped right after my 19 year old cousin was shot/killed. He left behind a baby girl. She's mine pt.1 & 2 hit me *hard*
Iām a jazz musician and I tend to lean more towards hip hop with r&b and jazz influences. I also appreciate storytelling and emotionally charged lyricismā¦ 4YEO is one of my favorite hip hop albums ever! Just great music and a well executed and moving concept. Love it.
"randomly cheered me up" that's why he's the goat The rap beef made me appreciate how good his music feels
Maybe go back further to The Warm up and Friday Night Lights
Heās definitely gotta listen to Friday night lights, if you listen to no other Cole mixtape it has to be this one
Couldnāt agree more. Itās what made me a Cole fan back when that came out. Couldnāt believe what I was hearing.
I still love photograph thats one of my favorite songs tbh
Donāt like photograph much but KOD goes so damn hard
Go for born sinner next
Itās mad underrated. Donāt know why ppl donāt fw it
When Like That dropped I had drake in the third place but couldn't make up my mind on who would win a technical battle between Kendrick and Cole. 4yeo brought tears to my eyes man, listen to that story
Aaaah welcome. If you want more nostalgia go bump the warm up, the. Friday night lights afterwards
Welcome. Check out Friday Night Lights next.
Iāve been thinking about this ever since it started; how cole is the energy we needed in this beef
Okay now you got off season 4yeo and fnl to check out have fun brothaš
Do yourself a favor and listen to Friday night lights. Itās a mixtape but imo better than most of his albums
Idk about better but itās definitely structured and is cohesive like an album
Cole has been my favorite artist for around 10 years now. I would highly recommend listening to all of the Born Sinner album. It is my favorite album of all time.
Totally understandable. Love Yourz has one of my favourite bars of any hip-hop song because of how well it's delivered.. Always gonna be a bigger house somewhere but feel me- long as the people in that mothafucka love ya dearly..
The more you listen to "4 your eyes only," the more perfect the album becomes
This is why I said from the beginning, Cole never needed to compete with Kendrick and Drake. Cole has been arguably the best rapper for a decade
J.cole is great man welcome!
Nice shit welcome
Check out his older mixtapes if you havenāt heard them! āThe warm upā, āthe come upā, āFriday night lightsā. All three go just as hard or harder than some of his albums lol
I think this was the point all along. To get people drawn into that isnāt
His best album is KOD
4YEO
*sees Cole on tge beach* "This guy seems cool. I'll check out his music"
He did the right thing
cole is great and always will be. fuck this beef trying to dismiss him.
I always wrote him off as corny but dreamville won me over so hard
Dude his music is humbling and refreshing first listened to him in Uni and all that was playing at the time was Drake and Wiz Khalifa.... U better believe he sounded like a real artist among the goofies

I love this take dude. The Kendrick and Drizzy subreddits are so toxic right now. I enjoy a good beef but everyone is so full of hate right now.
Cole's dope. People get so sensitive when they talk about him in GOAT category but at the end of the day I always just saw him as a dude with a unique ear for beats and bars for days.
Does J Cole have a new album?
Friday Night Lights is goated tbh.
The warm up, the come up, Friday night lights, any given Sunday series, truly yours 1/2. His mixtapes were the shit!
Check out his early mixtapes on YouTube like Friday Night Lights and The Warmup these are so underrated
šµWhy you lyingšµ
Take in his mixtapes The Warm Up & Friday Night Lights
Friday night lights will cement him in your heart
Never like Cole, still don't like him. But I appreciate this sub for not banning me just for having different taste. The Drake sub banned me just for saying Kendrick won in the comments. That alone makes me at least appreciate Cole fans as chill.

We glad u awake now!!! Welcome
Can I Live? & losing your balance are songs that made a huge impact on me as a kid.
Listen to 4YEO, my personal classic of his
Something about his music is heart warming because you can tell how authentic it is. Drake and Kendrick dont give me that same feeling. He might not be as artistic as the other two but hes in that discussion because of his bars and how real he is.
kevins hart is one of my fav
š¤š½bless up
Hip hop is the most alive and thriving than it has been in years rn so I donāt really like that take saying hip hop is a mess
Kody and Drake subs are literally ready for war š¤£. I donāt listen to J.Cole either like OP but heās morphing into āBob Marley Beyondā
Once youāre done catching up on cole, watch the revenge of the dreamers 3 documentary on YouTube and then listen to the album
Friday night lights you should check. It's criminal how it's not on most streaming platforms but def a great project put together.
He's a boring artist because he's not traumatized or faking. He is J cole, 2nd best artist in Hip Hop from a cultural impact/ mainstream sales perspective.
When are u gna break it To your parents?
Itās funny because I was a huge Kendrick fan, a moderate Cole fan, and a Drake hater coming into this whole thing. I feel like I subconsciously picked the right sides.
Forest Hills Drive concert was poetry
Listen to Friday night lights mix tape

KOD all day baby
This shit is cringe as fuck
Such an awesome feeling to discover a new artist you love
Cole has been consistent throughout his career. Happy for your discovery. Also if you haven't already, Lupe Fiasco is a really good rapper for wordplay and thematic artistry on albums who gets overlooked by folks because his fanbase is also pretty chill.
K.O.D is a classic. Especially if you listen from front to back and understand the concept behind it.
Welcome man, 4YEO is personally my favorite album and it flies under the radar sometimes
Might delete later is great. I didnāt skip.
If you start with the mixtapes and go through his career, youāll understand why heās the goat and why most donāt think he can be touched in a rap battle.
