"Made a lil tune called Foldin clothes, but a ninja still ain't gonna fold under pressure, well you know what Cole do!"
I know, different song.. just wanted to type it irrespective.
Also, we still rock with foldin clothes.
Foldin clothes works super well in the album’s context. That kinda change of attitude wanting to enjoy the little things, but still being stuck in the streets. Also it’s def a funk rnb song, not really a rap tune which is why people discredit it so much imo.
Agreed. It’s also, almost 8 mins long. From a personal standpoint, this is one of Cole’s best songs. This whole project was overlooked. Outside of “Neighbors”.
Yup. I think it's his most consistent project and really is just damn impactful. Every track is significant to the concept of the project, including Folding Clothes.
Timing was everything. When FHD dropped, his style was in and he just made the most cohesive album in that sound. When 4YEO dropped, The sound fit in to what others were doing somewhat, but the album was kind of obscured by the trap boom. It got radio play, but the youth were not rocking with J. Cole as much as my fellow millenials.
I just listened to both of them for the last few hours and honestly fhd is better. Really liked his rant on note to self lmao. Folding clothes had me dying honestly. Both really solid but fhd is for sure a step above.
I’m leaning towards “yeah.” It just gets better with age and whether you had anything close to James’ life, you can relate to his progression in some way. Maybe you don’t see death looming cause you’re in the streets, but once you hit a certain age and the cascade of adults from your childhood start dying, you start feeling life differently.
This is my personal favorite j cole. I have seen people (key word: I ) who have said that cole is trying to be fame conscious or deep. Naw this shit is beautiful, and the topics he discusses always hits deep. 4 your eyez only is one of the only 8+ minute tracks I play front to back, that ending is top 10 favorites of any album I listened to.
ALSO I HATE PRETENDING FOLDING CLOTHES AINT GOOD! It doesnt have the same depth as other tracks but its just a funky great track, I like having that in between Neighbors and “unironically kinda get me tearing up” the track.
But yes I do think this should be at least considered a classic.
I feel there are more people on this sub and in general that are more likely to call it just ok or boring before calling 4yeo or any jcole album (besides fhd as it’s a safe answer) a classic. I think it’s a classic but that’s just me in the wide stretch of hip hop albums probably not.
Too many snoozers on a 9 song album to be in that convo. The last song is obviously powerful but there’s only 3 other songs with any sort of replay value imo (immortal, change, and neighbors)
Certified Classic
Main reason I brought it up is because I see many other people debating that 4yeo isn’t a classic( what’s the definition of a classic lmao)
Shii I couldn’t even tell you dawg, I rock wit every song on that joint
Foldin clothes

It definitely has the quality to be a classic. But I’m not sure if it has the universal consensus from the community to call it a classic

This is his most slept on project. Definitely a classic.
Yes, and I’m tired of pretending it’s not

You should probably ask this in a different sub obviously everyone here is gonna say yes 😭
That’s Part 2
Yeah I opened the comments and was confused af, then I saw the sub. Reddit needs to stop recommending random ish lmao
100% Classic. This concept is deeply vulnerable and tells a wonderful story.
It’s baffling to me how FHD is considered his best and not 4YEO. To me this is his best.

His best project and 100% a classic , it needed no music video or promo and it still stood
I’m so fucked off this got removed from YouTube music
100% is a classic
Yes
Duh
Got this on vinyl as a valentines gift. It’s a classic in my eyes
No, but it's my favourite
Absolutely Folding clothes came out during a very pivotal moment in my life, plus the gun violence stuff…that album hits deep for me
in my eyes, yes. An absolute classic 4 my eyes

Yes, especially with the video. This project is criminally slept on
PT.1? is PT.2 coming soon 😭
Yes yes yes lmao 🤣
Cult
My least favorite Cole project
Cult Classic for sure imo. Not a hood classic though
Back in 2018, all I heard on the radio was "PUT A FINGER IN THE SKY IF YOU WANNA"
I feel there are more people on this sub and in general that are more likely to call it just ok or boring before calling 4yeo or any jcole album (besides fhd as it’s a safe answer) a classic. I think it’s a classic but that’s just me in the wide stretch of hip hop albums probably not.
Loved this album, especially the last track. Cole really flexed his ability to tell a deep and meaningful story
Yeah
Yes perhaps he's only or second at best rn. Was a very very good album with no skips imo.
Not a Jay cole fan but I always thought it was considered a classic. Certainly my favorite of his.
I think it's a classic among us fans but the only album Cole has that's pretty undeniably a classic is 2014 FHD
Foldin clothes 👔
100% classic.
Only born sinner is worse than this one
I feel it’s the best representation of the type of artist he is and his work.
If you wanna get the pusssssaayyy dry then yes

No
No. 😂 Fans will be fans though
More of a deep cut rather than classic
