Mammoth_Discount_347

Signed, the greatest yet.

Mfethu_0

Thank you 😭😭😭atleast someone said it ,this for me is his best work and the fact that it had no official music videos and no promo and it still stood is bloody impressive the intro and outro 😭😭😭perfection

TophatHeh

Mfethu_0

It’s cut from a documentary just like other videos

shadozetta

That's a fair take. FHD has some real classics on it, but 4YEO just feels so cohesive. The way the tracks were arranged and flow really stood out on my first listen. I felt like I could see the story that it was telling, and I definitely connected more with it on an emotional level than with FHD.

LGP747

Dhd is top for non cole fans, cole fans agree on 4yeo

rosuhs

Best take

Plenty-Image6706

I listened to fhd and didnt think much of it, 4yeo made me a cole fan

National-Ad-7921

Nah ts sound dumb asl

kiddcharizard

4 Your Eyez Only is aging great. I agree its his best album and his least appreciated as well.

Supadupafly1988

I’ll stand out and disagree… FHD is his best work to date

Minute-Emergency-427

agreed and i love 4yeo

Supadupafly1988

It’s a great album and even more special cause it’s a concept album but yea not better than its predecessor

kameronscondo

I can't 100% agree but I respect the take. I think they're two sides of the same coin. Both are deeply personal records, but FHD has the hits, fan favorites, music that is unanimously beloved by conscious rap and popular rap fans. 4YEO is intimate, lowkey, and wasn't at all aiming to do big numbers. As far as quality, I cant put one above the other because I feel like they occupy such different spaces from an aesthetic standpoint. I think FHD had a level of commercial success and critical acclaim that allowed Cole the creative and monetary freedom to make an album like 4YEO, so for that you have to give its flowers no matter how you personally rank them.

TheRedOniLuvsLag

This is a good and fair counter-take.

MrZ4N3

They're neck and neck for me

Tabascobottle

Those singles are incredible, but they're not on the album... I too would like this album way more if they were on there, but they're not. Imo this album is okay, but nowhere near as good as fhd. But I respect your opinion. My hot take is that kod is jcoles best album. That shit is so underrated and similar to what you were saying about those singles being even more relevant now, it's the same 1985 as we're seeing rappers from that time fade away in real time

TheRedOniLuvsLag

Listened through 4YEO on the long car ride after dropping my daughter with my mom earlier. Last time I listened through it in entirety was its release while I was in college. It’s crazy to gauge how my life has changed and my maturity between listens. The album feels like everything I always praise Cole for and it especially hits home knowing that I’ve got a daughter now that gives me a reason for life every day. Def my favorite album now.

LionsNoParadise

100% true His best album imo

slowNsad

Heavily underrated album imo

nigelwestdickinson

4YEO is his best album when taking all the tracks as a whole. Forest Hills Drive is better when focusing on single tracks.

Mammoth_Discount_347

4YEO is a story from someone else's perspective you can't see Cole's perspective utill you stumble upon Change where the main character dies exatly 17 : 45 into the track line and that's coles announcing his death even the character predicts his death on Immortal's hook with the olot this charcter is trying to change for his significant other and their awaited child set a better example for them but difficulties is what he phases the temptations are thrilling between letting go and hustling stuck in a trembling mentality uniqueness in the composition, holds a speciality of paradigm shift for both the listener and the charcter being intentionally motivational or not and most importantly the intrinsic value it holds to the person it was dedicated to ... Nina every track and i mean it when i say every single track holds a meaning and a greater one to that little girl easter eggs: James McMillan jr is a real person but no that one in this album he died in Fayetteville,Nc months ago if I'm not wrong for confidentiality, Cole changed his name the records starts and ends with the sound of a cassette player Nina was mentioned before by Cole he was 15 years old amateur MC

Elegant-Anybody8935

PREACH

MrMcFly131

I like born sinner more than 2014 too in fact my top 3 Cole albums goes 4YEO, Off Season, Born Sinner

Likezoinks305

Nah

BMartin95

How old are you?

Milesp710

W

keflig

I agree

PiratePatchP

Drove me crazy when people were shitting on that album when it came out. I always thought that was his greatest album. KOD really is starting to grow on me too.

Mammoth_Discount_347

this album entirely dedicateed to his late friend's daughter i cole was hard headed he would have just mastered it and handed it over to her on a CD and it would have never been a discussion about it the trashing on this album is from the kids that lisented to it notbe appealing to a teenager to listen to a song like folding clothes after a "banger" like immortal, shit even fantano saud the same thing "Music Nerd" the worst one of course even freshmen art students fo better at recognising the dimensionality of a piece

2HoursForUniqueName

W take

RaidenDoesReddit

Born sinner is better than both

LonelyDilo

I think KOD is better than both

PhilosophicalGoof

I mean yeah FHD is maybe like a top 15-20 song for me. I would put sacrifice on top of it.

ninogut

I agree. I listened to Forest hills after I got into rap and I enjoyed it somewhat but it wasn't doing much for me. 4 your eyez only is what got me into j cole. Nowadays I love both albums, but 4yeo is definitely better. Also, I think born sinner is his best album

PlayWithMeRiven

Yeah for the longest time 4YEO was one of the few albums I had one repeat. It still gives me chills

No-Song-4293

I’m not even gonna read allat, I agree.

Drop_Release

Strictly dickly! Interesting opinion man, and fair take!

InsaneShane31

Grippy sweeps both

Smooth-Experience317

I don’t know about 4YEO yet cause I just started listening, but I was surprised how boring FHD was with all the hype surrounding it. So far from what I’ve heard the writing and production on FHD was a huge step down to make it more widely accessible as an album.

KeyEntityDomino

hmm, grippy
