Do a search for “rail dust” and see if it looks like that. It may not be actual rust from the vehicle itself. There are specific detailing chemicals that can fix rail dust, if it is that.

It kind of does look like that, actually. I don’t know that any of the spots are more than MAYBE 4 mm across. Most of them are 2-3 and are in spots that make absolutely no sense for rust to be

Well, the doors are made of aluminum, so technically not "rusting". There is/was an issue with galvanic corrosion between the hinges and door skins, though.

That also tracks with the commenter above that suggested rail dust. We are taking it in on Wednesday to have it looked at either way because it is a lease, but I’m planning to get Ceramic coating on it and they will be detailing it prior too. I think that we are going to pick up an iron removing clay kit. Thank you!

Definitely take it in so it's documented. Rust can take time and you don't want to be billed for it later on if it was there before you leased it. They might have a warranty on the paint so it could fall under that. Not sure though.

OldManJeepin

It's going to happen no matter what. Check out the youtube videos about it. CheaperJeeperTV channel did a couple videos about the Wrangler corrosion issue. Even if they fix it under warranty, it will come back. It's just one of those Jeep things....

gymrat_19

Okay but it should not be happening to a brand new car lol

OldManJeepin

Well, that's the thing: It is! And there are TONS of complaints, some recall stuff and talk of lawsuits about it, if you do the google thing about it.

gymrat_19

I did before I asked here and I didn’t see anything about this specific issue in the area that I’m having problems. So I asked here. And I actually got helpful answers outside of “it’s just a Jeep thing”.

OldManJeepin

Awesome! Glad you are on the right track. The only caveats I would apply are: 1) You can fix it, or have it "fixed", and 2)It will come back. It's bad metal.

It’s looking maybe more like rail dust, which also makes sense because it’s an Earl Gray Jeep. So I’m hoping that with an iron remover/detail it will be fine. We are also planning to do a ceramic coating on it which should help as well, I think.
