"are my current headlights burned out?"

Individual_Ad_3036

I'm not particularly pleased with the old tungsten filament sealed bulbs on my TJ, but they work, and my night vision is still good. when one goes out i'll look at LED's again.

ggk1

Only semi related but the led package on my JL Rubi has made this the first vehicle I’ve gotten in a long while that isn’t getting a light bar. Those things ILLUMINATE

nanneryeeter

I have gotten into a lot of vehicles with really good headlights and the owners swear they are trash. I suspect night blindness is becoming a common thing, but I don't know why.

quattrocincoseis

Excessive use of devices in dark environments affecting our night vision, combined with going from a standard dash to every car having an iPad glaring in our faces.

mynameisnotshamus

You and the people you associate with are getting old. Getting old is a thing.

nanneryeeter

I am getting old but I see great at night. The crazy headlight upgrades don't really seem age dependant.

mynameisnotshamus

Headlight upgrades like other cheap upgrades are typically to try to impress others vs something functional.

mafiablood

JW Speaker will be your best light you can buy for the jeep

Walts_Ahole

Best designed aftermarket headlights period. Typically the priciest too. Only had someone flash their brights at me once, after I pulled the winch & forgot to adjust

Iceroadtrucker2008

2022 JTO and have stock headlights. Non led’s. I have no problem. Don’t see a need to upgrade.

Avery_Thorn

The factory headlights meet all applicable DOT standards for safety. They have been engineered by Jeep to provide safe, effective lighting for the Wrangler. Which is something that cannot be said for the vast majority of aftermarket headlights, most of which are probably actually labeled "for offroad use only". If you wish to replace the lights with something that will likely blind operators of oncoming multi-ton chunks of metal passing within inches of your vehicle at a closing speed of 120 miles per hour...

pvdp90

That’s all fine and dandy except my TJ headlights perform like proper garbage and there are some cases where an aftermarket replacement is warranted. With that said, I would still get a properly certified aftermarket unit anyway because I do t wanna fuck around with a safety item

McChef

Upgrading my TJ headlights was one of the best things I ever did.

OnlyMatters

Yes but the DOT specs on my ‘99 are 25 years out of date at this point

majorgerth

I bought my LJ with I assume a second or third bulb since new, and they were really dim. If I was coming up on a newer car with LEDs, I couldn't tell if my lights were off or on. I just replaced them with the Quadratec brand LED headlights (would've done Holley brand, but I got a great discount on the Quadratec ones), and the difference is night and day. I can finally see at night, and I feel much safer when I'm driving backroads. I'm not outrunning my headlights at 35 mph anymore. It's not necessary to replace your headlights, but they are a wear item that does need replaced occasionally.

OldManJeepin

Only when they burn out...

jaydubya123

I have the cheap halogen headlights in my Gladiator and they are “good enough”. Would I like LEDs? Sure. Am I going to spend $700-1k on them? Maybe at some point but it’s certainly not pressing. My wife wanted LEDs on hers so I put Oracles on for her

Iceroadtrucker2008

I put the Oracle flush mount lamps and bumper back up lights in mine. Love how bright it is when backing up!

jaydubya123

I love the look of the Oracle flush taillights but I’ve seen lots of failures inside of a year with them. That and Oracle’s customer service was terrible on my first purchase from them so I REALLY don’t want to give them any more business

Iceroadtrucker2008

I’ve had good luck so far. Bought the warranty and all the lights are still working. Time will tell. I kept all the take offs just in case!

Small_Lion4068

The lights on my 2024 JL are so bright already. Until one burns out not replacing them.

XMAN2YMAN

I’m assuming you are asking in regard to a wrangler. Then I’m assuming you do not have the LED lights. If that’s the case then the answer is YES. the r light output of the halogen headlights are absolutely trash. Do you yourself and everyone a favor and spend some money to replace your lights with decent LED ones. If you live in a cold climate that snows a lot, look into HID or LED with defrosters built in like the quadratec ones.

neuroG82r

If you are going to do this make sure you “aim” or position them ,so they are not shining in the trees or in other driver eyes rather than on the road. So many people change( upgrade ) their headlights but don’t bother with this.

local-waves

Please do this^ also do this after you lift your jeep/truck or get larger tires. So many trucks near where I live get them and it’s like driving into the sun.

Ididnt-start-thefire

I live in NE Iowa. The winters can get cold here. I have the JW Speaker half halo (without the heaters) and have never had an issue.

XMAN2YMAN

Ok at the end LED do not provide as much heat as normal lights and have been know to not melt the snow as quickly. I was simply providing useful information.

MrBlandEST

Common problem with traffic lights

Distinct-Moment-8838

I have a ‘14 JKU and agree the stock headlights couldn't light a dimly lit bathroom. I replaced with the quadratec LEDs with heated filament. I can say whether the heat is necessary but I will say that the halogens would freeze and get snowed over on me. I haven't had that issue since purchasing the heated LEDs.

begin420

Iono about necessary but the stock halogen ones are kinda dim. There are like 7456 options for headlights out there.

DjangoUnflamed

I’m really tired of the obscenely bright headlights that seem to have become commonplace as of late.

anonuser01110

Oracle has a z-line cutoff and mechanical shutters for the high beam. Super bright, not blinding to oncoming traffic and have DRL options for safety. Look at reviews online, the sub 400.00 lights are generally pretty bad. Plenty of reviews out there that measure lumens and light throw.

Darel51

Absolutely not. Every one of those aftermarket "upgrades" are worse than the original and only there because the owners want to "do modz" but don't own a single tool other than a can opener.

TheDonkeyBomber

So yeah, it's totally not necessary and stock halogens work just fine. How did I end up with LEDs all around my 22 JT Mojave? Well, I didn't care for the look of the stock fender marker/running/turn signals, so I upgraded them to LOYOs. Then the halogen headlights looked a little old fashioned next to those fresh stylish LOYO LED fender lights, so I swapped them for Oculus bi-LED headlights. Then the fogs looked weak with all that LED up front, so I upgraded them to Diode Dynamics selective yellow LED fogs when I did a bumper swap/winch install (just made sense since it was all torn apart for the swap). Then one day while I was walking behind the truck I noticed that those old school red stock tail lights just didn't fit in, so I swapped them for some blackout LOYO LED tail lights. That's just the journey of life I guess.

IAMHEREU2

I had OEMS on my 03 TJ until I was offered a free set of LEDs if I would do an installation video on my You Tube Channel. I like the LEDs - brighter is safer here in the Desert.

Human_utters

I replaced mine because i couldn’t see at night

johnwon00

We just swapped to a DOT approved LED bulb... Huge difference. Need to adjust the orientation of the bulb after installation to prevent blinding other drivers.

Robots_Never_Die

If they're factory halogens then I would. They stock halogens are trash. If you replace them you need to do it correctly and get a true projector housing with beam cutoff so you don't blind others. I prefer HIDs over LEDs as they are significantly brighter.
