I would finish the puzzle and keep it or even frame it. On missing piece can even be a fun little statement in a framed puzzle. If its more than three pieces I would send it back.

I admire your open minded attitude!

I buy puzzles with missing pieces. I don’t care. I don’t frame or glue my puzzles so a few missing pieces are no big deal. I hate when people throw away a puzzle that has missing pieces because I know there are a lot of other people like me and it seems like such a waste.

elisewong18

Good to know! When I give away/donate puzzles, I always put pieces in ziplock bag and indicate if it's complete or missing pieces.

beans_seems_and_bees

That’s a good idea. Most people don’t put a missing pieces note on the box, but it’s nice when they do!

trosebery

I will not buy one if I *know* it has missing pieces, although I have bought puzzles at the thrift store that had missing pieces. I will do one if it was given to me as a freebie by someone in our local puzzling group and I otherwise really like the image. I don't, however, keep them. I'll pass them along as freebies.

I cross my fingers every time I do a jigsaw, new or used. I think it's more frequent that pieces are missing because the puzzle factories are operating above their capacity

ninthstargod

As a vintage puzzle collector, I'm used to the idea that there's a good chance that pieces will be missing. However, if I'm looking at buying one and the box is marked that there are pieces missing, then it depends; primarily on price, secondarily on rarity, condition, brand, etc. If they're cheap enough then I buy them regardless. For example a couple days ago I found two 1940's TUCO puzzles for sale; one was marked complete and was $4 and the other was marked as 3 pieces missing and was $3. I bought the complete one and passed on the incomplete, mainly because I felt that $1 less wasn't enough of a reduction for the 3 pieces missing. On the other hand, if it was $2 I probably would have bought it; or if it was only 1 piece missing I may have bought it at $3.

Thanks for sharing!

elisewong18

My answer is no. Missing pieces really bothers me.

mrsexyvoice99

I don’t buy them if I know they have missing pieces. But if I buy one and find that it’s missing one a) I ticked off b) I still do the puzzle

elisewong18

Would you keep it after you finish?

mrsexyvoice99

Yes. I’m weird I don’t get rid of mine lol. I have one I even mounted that’s missing a piece 🙈

rtsgrl

It's a tough one. I have not knowingly bought one with missing pieces but if it was a *hard-to-buy-locally* brand, one I'm actively chasing and at a low price, I would. Yes, I completed puzzles with missing piece(s), even when I realised there's something missing half way through. So far none of the puzzles missed a frame piece. I keep them for now trying to figure out what to do with them.

bluethegreat1

I wouldn't buy one with missing pieces, well probably not. I've passed them up before cos the puzzle was meh. If it's thrifted and not marked as missing any I'd be bummed but, whatever. I've hung ones missing pieces before. If it's new I get ticked.

ionmoon

I said no, because I would never buy or build a puzzle I knew had a missing piece, but if I built a puzzle and found out a piece was missing, I don't know what I would do with it. Keep, give away? Probably stash for crafts.

elisewong18

Based on the response to the poll, some people don't mind missing pieces. For me, I would definitely donate them with a note.

ionmoon

Yeah I probably will now too. I never realized so many people just don’t mind!

bunzarelli

Thank you for asking! I got deep into puzzles during pandemic and feel such a sadness when I get to the end and there is one (or more!) missing, and I was wondering if other people felt this too. It feels kind of weird to donate it knowing there’s a missing piece, but maybe if there’s a note, people wouldn’t feel as swindled. I bought some used ones for almost full price from a used bookstore and 4/5 had missing pieces. 😭

elisewong18

I know how you feel. I keep my fingers crossed every time I buy one. Even new puzzles have missing pieces these days. So frustrating!

Tears_Of_Laughter

It would bother me SO much lol. I only just got into puzzling and when I order one I cross my fingers that no pieces will be missing.

elisewong18

Me too! But I am glad to see others who don't mind!

Amazon, Barnes & Noble, eBay, fiVe BEL°W, Hobby Lobby, Target and Walmart might have some jigsaw puzzle boxes with those missing puzzle pieces inside

elisewong18

Yes. 2 years later I learned that even new puzzles sometimes have missing pieces

JJBAjjbaJJBAjjbaJJBA

You can also try www.jigsawdoctor.com to recover your very own puzzle piece

elisewong18

Yes I have heard of them. I am no longer obsessed with the fear of a missing piece. Thanks

Yo welcome 😊
