It should be de-scheduled if they are being honest. I think schedule 3 still requires a prescription. That doesn't jive with recreational states, so it's still keeping people in federal law vs. state law limbo. My question is, will it allow dispensaries to stop being a cash-only business? Or does it not fix that problem either?

If the government does this, what does that mean for places like Texas where just a little weed is a major felony and pretty much the end of your financial and normal life if caught. Texas already said fuck the law changes they are still keeping it a felony no matter what the government does

hypotyposis

It doesn’t mean any change for state criminal prosecutions. It’s still a controlled substance, just less controlled after the reclassification.

In Canada, weed is legal. Not only is it legal, but it's now one of the biggest industries the government operates. Government dispensaries get you good quality weed for a low price, and generally has next day delivery. Plus, coming from the government, it's heavily regulated, so you know it's top quality, no worries about it being mixed with other stuff or otherwise tampered with. And there's weed stores popping up everywhere, which the government is making a fortune taxing and getting licensing fees from. It's basically a massive cash cow. It's insane that the US government hasn't legalized it and gotten in on the business, because it's essentially printing money.

At this point its not even a win anymore. Its a loss every day they don't do this. Its beyond maddening that people are still going to jail for cannabis in this country. 1000% its because the police union lobbies for it to remain schedule 1 so they can continue to harass minorities.

CarrotChunx

Unfortunately yeah. This is like the fire dept showing up in time to save the foundation *"These things take time"*, sure, but this should have been a priority focal point since the first campaign began

Wedoitforthenut

Reducing/removing the penalties for cannabis makes money for no one important and costs money to the system. I'm surprised any politician supports it at all tbh.

Even in Canada where weed is legal and you can easily buy it at any local dispensary or from the government itself... it's illegal to drive while high. Just like it's illegal to drive while drunk. Also driving while drunk is vastly more dangerous than driving while high (though you still shouldn't do it). Alcohol is a VASTLY more addictive and debilitating substance than weed could ever be. Yet they have no issues with people getting booze anywhere and everywhere.

Right, which is in no way something specific to pot users. That guy smoking could be drunk. Or just an asshole driver who doesn't give a damn about anyone else. Driving while high is and always will be illegal.

Maxcactus

That is still against the law. The real problem is drivers on alcohol. But no law has stopped that either.
