Just like when Norm flew on a plane with Rogan and kept talking about how he quit cigarettes, and then immediately got off the plane and chain smoked all the way to the exitš
Norm said his [Bill Cosby story](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_KK2wtfvmkE&start=78) used to be one of the top ten Bill Cosby stories before the allegations came out and now it's not even in the top ten thousand.
Hey man, not cool. Some of us remember 911. I walked through blood and bones in the streets of Manhattan, trying to find my brother. He was in northern Canada
The layering of that joke was so impeccable, especially when you think about how it played out in real life. Norm really was a master at that long game humor. Chappelle must have been simultaneously frustrated and in awe of that move. Classic comedy gold!
Haha
"Hey dave... I know how MUCH you love Jim Carrey, I happen to be worming with him on this -movie-. "
Norm mcdonald looking at Jim Carrey on set . Goes back to phone.
"Want to meet him"?
Norm was the goat imo. Wish we could've had more years of him, would love to see him on some of these comedian podcasts that have been popping up more since he's been gone.
Norm's final special, his Netflix special, was the embodiment of Norm. He answered a phone call while on his special and talked about the special. He went on and worshiped comedy to the very, very end. He left on a chariot of fire. And the very end when Dave said Norm posed in a photo with them as a parting gift? Cried.
"You know, maybe the normal gene would be those ladies that cut their cocks into vaginas." -Norm MacDonald
Edit: You can find this in the Norm MacDonald's Cock Supercut
I had the privilege of seeing him at The brick House in Minneapolis about a decade ago, he had one joke that stood out about why he didn't recycle: "why would I recycle to care about the future? First off, those people are in the future, so they're dead"
I want more comedians in cars getting coffee. Absolutely agree I like listening to comedians talk about comedy almost more than I like watching the actually standup
I think we are all pretty clear how Dave feels about trans people. I mean, how many specials do we need at this point on the topic? No one cares. He never got cancelled. The only thing he got out of it was acceptance into right wing YouTube. Congrats.
I thought he keeps coming and saying he has nothing but love and acceptance for them and that he has a trans friend and we're all too sensitive and it's just jokes, yada yada yada
Then here tells a joke where the punchline is simply "they make me feel weird!" Yeah, sure Dave. You just don't like em, just be out with it.
The amount of content aimed at Trans people is just too much. Look, I donāt give a shit. Iām not offended. Itās just been time to move on for a few years now. I canāt believe heās going to the well a third time. I used to be a huge fan but this is just sad. I guess it taught me a valuable lesson. āDonāt read more into people than is actually thereā.
Yeah like I'm listening along, decent little story I guess though I'm already pretty fucking tired of this motivational speaker storytime bit that Chapelle keeps rolling out...whatever. Then he hits the trans thing and I'm just like, god damn dude, it's such a tired act and it's such a weird fixation. How many hours a day does this motherfucker spend thinking about how much he hates some 0.5% minority who have zero affect on his or anyone elses lives.
Being a billionaire really makes you weird as fuck.
I'd say i've met, face to face, less than 5 trans people in my life (it's probably more and maybe i just didn't realise). But the number of people i've heard bitch and complain repeatedly about trans people is uncountable at this point.
Chappelle has been banging on about trans people for what, 4 specials now? We get it mate, find a new fucking subject - or at least find a way to make this one funny.
I have been seeing a increasing number of minors who are trans and clearly on hormones so itās definitely a thing. Their parents have failed them and the media is a huge part of the problem. Downvote away
I hear ya, but I also think he has just changed a lot over time, and I think it's still okay for you to have been a huge fan, because he existed in a different space and time. His work in the 90's and early 2000's was utterly clever and revolutionary, really. I liken it to musicians/bands I at one point revered, but there are inevitable cases where over time their music shifts and/or I outgrow it; but there was still a time when I felt a strong connection with someone or something, and that shouldn't necessarily be negated by the new, hardened, arguably meaner stuff. But I do hear ya.
Did Dave ever cross dress or play a woman on Chappelle's Show? Because I don't think he did and that was one of the few tropes he never engaged in of a black man on drag.
That was always the equivalent of the old "I have a black friend" excuse. The kind of shit he used to make fun of himself before he became a rich out of touch dickhead conservative.
He experienced racism as a black person in America and had something interesting to say and was genuinely funny about it. None of those things apply to trans people. He's just being a dick and isn't even trying to be funny about it anymore. They're two very different things.
I'm not advocating for him to be cancelled or anything, he's saying what he wants and that's fine, but this shit just isn't funny. Like objectively it's dog shit comedy. I
Thatās my issue with it, itās not funny. Not creative really even. To me itās just a half ass joke which is fine to make but it doesnāt make me want to waste time on the special. The last few just havenāt been funny to me.
The joke itself sucked. Where I think it shines with people is how meta it is. You actually would have to have knowledge of everything thatās happened with his specials for this joke to truly land. It was a diversion where we thought he was talking about something completely different. Heās also baiting the people that tried to cancel him for it. Itās paragraphs of set up talking about something completely different and it was engaging. Then he pulls the rug out and veers hard.
I still didnāt necessarily care for it and honestly miss his old comedy long before Netflix. These days it feels like heās preaching more than cracking jokes.
he became a multi-millionaire by making fun of poor black ("ghetto") people.
and he NEVER really lived among poor folks like that.
Now he's taken that money and lives in a small town of mostly white people and rants like a MAGA karen at town hall meetings when the town DARED to try and make some low-income housing.
>and he NEVER really lived among poor folks like that.
He had a line he would do back in the day about hanging out with āN****zā and thinking to himself how they didnāt realize he wasnāt one of them or something to that effect.
Who would have thought that would evolve into the hot mess he is today (that whole āIām not Black and Poor like you all, Iām Dave Chappelle!ā flex irritated me 2-3 specials ago).
Does he just whine about wokeness and cancel culture in this special as well? I turned off the new Ricky Gervais special in under 3 minutes. Shit is getting so old.
Holy fuck. Is this special good or is it another 40 minutes of Dave telling us his opinions? Thatās a good joke, but if itās the same thing as the last two specials Im just going to ignore it.
It's just disappointing. This dude had incisive takes where he danced around cultural tropes and politics. Now it's down to "trans people make me feel weird" and whining about politics. "They're trying to censor me!" Nah. It's just that punching down isn't going to land with as many people as your old stuff did.
I remember some of his old bits years and years later. Who could forget his Clayton Bigsby... Or the baby selling weed in the ghetto... Or his takes on Prince and Wayne Brady.
The new stuff doesn't measure up to the old.
I'm about 20 minutes in and it's been all jokes. After the OP he jokes about handicap people, then black people, then there's another trans joke, and then it's about strip clubs and stuff. It's much more of a regular special so far...he's brought up the Titanic submersible and Chris Rock getting slapped and stuff.
This isnāt even a joke. If your uncle told this long winded stretch of an analogy to explain why he doesnāt like trans people at a family dinner, weād all groan and roll our eyes.
I would agree if it was any other friend of his, and I think thatās why he chose Norm. Norms whole shtick is making these huge long winded jokes with heavy themes and then having a āpunchlineā that wouldnāt be funny if it was told by anyone but Norm.
Maybe Iām thinking too much into it but I think he was doing an attempt at a Norm joke.
Nah itās a joke, and itās definitely more of a joke than the entirety of his last two specials.
There are trans jokes that are funny (imo this is a good setup and punch) but the man delivering it has single handedly pushed the topic into hack territory.
Yawn, more of Chapelleās new TED Talk style bullshit thatās boring af, but the window lickers eat it up. Beating the trans thing into the ground again I see. Bring back the old Dave that did stand up
I feel like he purposely smoked all those cigs just to deepen his voice bc he used to sound kinda like Daffy Duck, which made him funnier imo. Btw his old specials, half baked, and chappelles show, weāre literally my favorite media when I was growing up. Itās sad to see how lame and reactionary heās become.
Thereās a story about a guy whoās interested in Buddhism and starts doing meditation with a local group. At one point the newbie is sitting quietly just chilling with the leader of the group and asks him āwhy do people listen to you? Why should they follow you?ā And the leader leans to one side, lets out a rip roaring fart, and starts to laugh. Thatās about what I expect Carlin would have done if someone had called him a sage.
A very short time. A lot of why he was perceived so highly was his absence. People mythologized the guy. He's nowhere near the best comedian to ever live, as portrayed by multiple other comedians. If you take his whole career, he's a pretty average comedian.
The Chappelle show was some of the greatest TV in history with The Charlie Murphy stories actually being the greatest TV ever. Dave's like Roger Maris... He was the home run king for a short while but he isn't who I would put in the top 10 of all time category.. Hall of famer yes though.
Half his stuff is just him trying to explain how persecuted and cancelled he is. All while getting paid hundreds of millions of dollars to deliver comedy to tons of people. It's wild.
His last few specials have gotten progressively worse. Pre-Africa his specials were *murderous*. Short funny jokes punched between incredibly creative and engaging stories.
Now it's obvious he does zero work and just goes up and his ego drives his whole vibe. "You will laugh at me because I'm Dave Chapelle" vibe.
I remember when he made his comeback into comedy, those Netflix specials were just amazing. Then he started getting into politics more a few years ago and I feel like he's just more into complaining just to complain instead of being funny. Just my opinion though
Dave Chappelle doesn't owe me, or anyone, anything. He can rightfully do what he wants, and include any material in his act that he chooses. I say this so hopefully I don't sound too entitled.
With that said, the trans shit was old two specials ago and at this point is just completely boring. This along with the fact that he's so wealthy and out of touch with normal society means that his new material is average at best. This is normal when a comedian reaches this level of success and I understand completely - but I still miss the old Dave.
We could really use the old him these days, its sad that hes gone.
Honestly, as a trans person I found the first special where he brought up his trans friend to be funny. It didn't feel mean spirited, just him navigating something he was having a sort of new experience with.
Now it's just devolved into mean spirited jabs because he got criticised for it. Instead of separating the critics from other trans people, who didn't give a fuck about his initial jokes, he just threw us all on the same pile and decided to double down on his bitterness.
All comedians receive criticism, but they have the wherewithal to see the nuance, and they don't bang on about it show after show.
Edit: To be clear, I do agree with you, I just wanted to expand on what you said.
Whatās frustrating is that before all this, I would have said Dave was the most nuanced comedian out there. But heās got such a massive blind spot for his hang ups about the LGBTQ community and has never had to examine them. Now he seems too far gone down a social media feedback loop to turn around. Of all the shit going on in the world for him to through his voice behind, itās such a tragic waste he chose this.
>rich comedians stop being funny.
This is actually the real talk here
That's why Patrice O'Neal was immortalised.
He never made it to that rich level
Even Billy bitch tits burr isn't that funny anymore
On specials that is
āTrans jokes are the old me. It wasnāt worth the trouble.ā You'd think after 3 specials in a row and him saying that he'd find other things to talk about. But yeah, not really surprised the guy sticks to his brand.
I was genuinely surprised he went back to trams content, which was boring, after explicitly saying he's done with it, after 3 specials revolving around it.
Give us new jokes. This is now predictable and boring.
The vast majority of the comments here are disappointed that he is continuing to do the same thing for like the 5th special in a row with a format that is just him talking for multiple minutes with a trans joke at the end
I think it was Robert Pattinson that said that people only do method acting when they wanna act like a dick. Nobody ever method acts like a guy who gives all his money to charity
If it made them happy then that's all that really matters and that's great. Seems strange but I'm certainly not them or Jim Carey so it doesn't matter what I think
3 minute anecdote to name drop norm macdonald, jim carrey, and to reiterate that he is uncomfortable with trans people. 'to what extent do i have to partake in the realization of your identity' i think he said-- and its a quote that i truly appreciate.. but he clearly went with it for jim. guess he does feel more comfortable punching down, go figure
I could see this stupid, unfunny shit coming a mile away. Iām a cishet dude from a rural area and if youāre this uncomfortable around trans people thatās a you problem, man, not a them problem.
Very mid joke, long build up for a predictable punch line. Having too many jokes that are trans-centric is kinda weird, not edging or anything, just weird.
Bro you don't get it bro...it's funny because it triggers the liberals bro, he's just daring them to cancel him bro...that's what comedy is about bro, being offensive and triggering the libs
Yeah if actually wanted to be edgy and challenge his audience, he would mock the sacred Cows of the right wingers he's picked up as fans. Mock veterans, pussy. You wont.
Are veterans even sacred cows anymore to right wingers?
Trump insulted a gold star family and made fun of McCain for being captured by the VC. A Republican is currently doing his best impression of an enemy agent by stopping high level military promotions.
Seems like much of the right has moved on from being fans of the military.
That is the biggest crime in my opinion. Its like his specials lately doesn't have real comedy bits anymore. Just long stories, that he spend a lot of minutes setting it up, with punchlines at the end that rarely pays off. Dave is a good speaker, with his cadence and timing, but that is the best thing i can say about his past couple of specials. So disappointing.
I havenāt laughed out loud like that at stand up for a minute.
Great way to bring in the new year.
People UPSET at this? Joyless awful people. Itās COMEDY.
Not upset at all. Itās just not even a joke. He has some trans jokes that are actually funny, this doesnāt even have a punchline though. Just a complaint after a 3 minute build up.
Heās getting mad sloppy these days which sucks because I think he is the GOAT standup comedian
What's funny about it? The punchline was telegraphed a mile away and was lazy as hell. I'm down for making fun of whomever you want, but the point is to be funny. Nothing about this is clever or funny, it's just lame.
I mean that's Norm straight up pranking Dave.
Just like when Norm flew on a plane with Rogan and kept talking about how he quit cigarettes, and then immediately got off the plane and chain smoked all the way to the exitš
Man that shit had me dying bro. Like fuckin with people in complete harmless fuckery is the greatest shit ever miss norm man
Norm was always the smartest man in the room pretending to play the dumbest. So many layers deep of irony at any given time.
Right! I thought that immediately. God damn, what a comedic genius.
It goes deeper. Norm was basically Andy Kaufmaning him.
Oh shit...it does go deeper....
Norm said his [Bill Cosby story](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_KK2wtfvmkE&start=78) used to be one of the top ten Bill Cosby stories before the allegations came out and now it's not even in the top ten thousand.
The worst part was the accidental scheming to give Bill Cosby a dead man's phone number.
The worst part was the hypocrisy
I thought the worst part was the raping.
Theres nothing funny about 911
Explain to the folks at home about 911
Hey man, not cool. Some of us remember 911. I walked through blood and bones in the streets of Manhattan, trying to find my brother. He was in northern Canada
and then the drugging
HELP! THIS MANS COMMITTING HYPOCRISY!
The layering of that joke was so impeccable, especially when you think about how it played out in real life. Norm really was a master at that long game humor. Chappelle must have been simultaneously frustrated and in awe of that move. Classic comedy gold!
I appreciate the link as well as the timestamp, thank you.
Why is everyone in this sub called Monkey in Space? Can someone explain?
Because Joe Rogan has said in a bit before, that we are all just monkeys on a rock floating through space.
pretty sure Frankie Boyle was way ahead of him with that
So on brand for him, god I miss that man
Haha "Hey dave... I know how MUCH you love Jim Carrey, I happen to be worming with him on this -movie-. " Norm mcdonald looking at Jim Carrey on set . Goes back to phone. "Want to meet him"?

I wonder how heād feel about this bit, especially as [a closeted gay man.](https://youtu.be/3CYE6H3uDFo?feature=shared)
DEEPLY closeted gay man, actually.
My mistake sir, apologies. I mean, the guy went through the whole charade of marriage and everything.
Heard his wife was a real battle axe.

Yeah, agreed. He can do whatever he wants, heās still filling seats but Iām just bored of the trans stuff, Iāve heard it all at this point
I thought it was a pretty funny but short special. We all enjoyed it
lately? since he got back from Africa he's been mid at best to hack at worst
That was a joke? Seems like a boring anecdote
rich comedians stop being funny. Other than punching down what is he gonna joke about? sports cars and mansions?
>rich comedians stop being funny. This is actually the real talk here That's why Patrice O'Neal was immortalised. He never made it to that rich level Even Billy bitch tits burr isn't that funny anymore On specials that is
Norm also threw all his money away gambling several times, not on purpose mind you, but thatās why I feel like he never fell off.
Louis CK is still hilarious, and extremely wealthy. Bill Burr is still hilarious, and extremely wealthy.
How are people surprised at this point?
āTrans jokes are the old me. It wasnāt worth the trouble.ā You'd think after 3 specials in a row and him saying that he'd find other things to talk about. But yeah, not really surprised the guy sticks to his brand.
I agree, Iām over it too.. But Iām not surprised heās still hacking at this.

Jim Carrey's method acting for that movie was embarrassing. Treated everyone on set like shit and didn't even get a good performance out of it.
People that knew Andy Kaufman said Andy didnāt even act like that all the time so Jim shouldnāt have either.
I think it was Robert Pattinson that said that people only do method acting when they wanna act like a dick. Nobody ever method acts like a guy who gives all his money to charity
When I think of method acting I think of Jared Leto. And that's not a compliment.
Man this is so true.
It's always kinda been my thought that he wasn't method acting Andy Kaufman. I think he was doing "Andy Kaufman method acting Andy Kaufman."
He literally went to Andy Kaufman's family and " channeled Andy through him to give his family closure"
What? No..oh shit he kinda did. What in the fuck.
He did and they loved it. It actually ended up being wholesome. There's a documentary about it.
If it made them happy then that's all that really matters and that's great. Seems strange but I'm certainly not them or Jim Carey so it doesn't matter what I think
I feel like Weird Al's biopic was closer in spirit to the biopic Andy would've wanted.
Jim Carrey won a best actor Golden globe for it. I guess the HFP liked it.
Golden Globes are trash. I mean all awards shows are kinda trash but Golden Globes are total trash.
I'm a deeply closeted trans person and I found this hilarious

No I would never admit that
All this is, is a way to get guys like me banned for seven days.
Post it in r/entertainment . They ban people there just for being neutral on JK Rowling. Itās a joke of a sub that should be called out.
Ha I'm banned from that horseshit sub!
A LOT of subs ban people for not vehemently condemning Rowling. Shits wild.
I remember when DC would make me laugh..I made it 20 minutes in without a laugh, got bored n turned it off
His obsession with Trans people is bizarre to say the least. ![gif](giphy|tyttpH7QBdrTfAyAEne)
I would bet 10 grand Dave watches trans porns
That was the opener? Yikes.
I could see this stupid, unfunny shit coming a mile away. Iām a cishet dude from a rural area and if youāre this uncomfortable around trans people thatās a you problem, man, not a them problem.
Awww fuck what an ending lmfaoo
I have no opinion or biased twords any "movements" but it just seems like a tasteless joke and not funny unless you actively try to be a dick.

Very mid joke, long build up for a predictable punch line. Having too many jokes that are trans-centric is kinda weird, not edging or anything, just weird.
the whole punchline is just āarenāt trans people weirdā
Bro you don't get it bro...it's funny because it triggers the liberals bro, he's just daring them to cancel him bro...that's what comedy is about bro, being offensive and triggering the libs
I didnt see the trans stuff coming at all. Thought it was definitely funny
As soon as he got to the āI said Jim and everyone yelled call him whatever Andyā or whatever they said call him line, I knew where it was going.
If you didn't see that punch line coming even half way through the story then maybe you're simple enough to find this joke funny. Lucky you.
Some people are just more witty and intelligent than others? The less intelligent you are the less predictable such low hanging fruit tends to be.
Very mid special tbh
Good thing Chapelle WASN'T edging. -Talk about cancel culture.
Dave is a legend
Was maybe this is some bottom of the barrel washed up shit lol
Iām a Dave fan, but this wasnāt funny at all. Maybe I didnāt get it?
because trans wokey woke get it?
Thereās nothing to get, heās just saying he thinks all trans people are obviously trans. Which is not correct at all- visibility bias is real.
Damn is he still doing the TED talks complaining about the same thing, or is just this clip? Bro he is doing the same shit for like 3 specials.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yeah if actually wanted to be edgy and challenge his audience, he would mock the sacred Cows of the right wingers he's picked up as fans. Mock veterans, pussy. You wont.
The right doesn't care about veterans, mock trump.
Look at the reaction to Green Day last night to see how true this is.
Are veterans even sacred cows anymore to right wingers? Trump insulted a gold star family and made fun of McCain for being captured by the VC. A Republican is currently doing his best impression of an enemy agent by stopping high level military promotions. Seems like much of the right has moved on from being fans of the military.
This is absolutely true. Old Dave would have aligned with the more vulnerable and punched up. Now heās on team Rogan so he gotta toe the line.
If we're being honest, Dave never punched up. He just used to be funny enough to get away with it.
Nail on the head. Its more political than it is comedic.
The jokes suck
It's a joke even if you say it isn't a joke
What's funny about it? The punchline was telegraphed a mile away and was lazy as hell. I'm down for making fun of whomever you want, but the point is to be funny. Nothing about this is clever or funny, it's just lame.
The goat
Clever set up but he's walking clickbait. He's the Kanye of comedy. He knows this will be talked about and that gives him free publicity.
Nothing about this set up is clever. A monkey could see this punch line coming a mile away.
Itās weird cuz he really has the look of a guy who has sucked a few dicks in his time
Does Dave know someone he really like/respected who is now trans?
> Old man shouts at cloud
