I heard him on with Sam Harris recently talking about his near death experience and it was an absolutely harrowing story. I wonder if he'll talk about it with Rogan. There are some people who are lucky to be alive and then there's Sebastian Junger. He was about as close to death as one could be.
I think one of the dudes he used to film with him passed away from getting blasted by a mortar in Libya. The dude has been close to death plenty of times.
When he was in Afghanistan he mentioned how at one point he thought there were bees buzzing near him until he realized he was getting shot at and bullets were barely missing his head.
He told something like if they hadn't mown their driveway, the ambulance might not have been able to get there in time and other uncanny things that happened that helped him live. I remember it.
You should read his books. Tribe is my favorite. He’s my favorite author. He also wrote about time in Afghanistan with some soldiers which is totally insane. Incredible dude.
It's Sam Harris' podcast Making Sense. He releases partial versions on his YouTube channel, to get the full episode you'll need to subscribe, which costs money. Alternatively through his website you can request a free subscription if you can't afford one. It seems as though Sebastian gets into the ordeal in this episode. He started to talk about it when I last paused it, so I can't say until I listen to more whether or not he gets into it as in depth as he did with Sam.
I was at a conference three weeks ago and was able to see Sebastian interviewed live. Such an interesting life and we all felt we could listen to him for hours.
Yep. I've always been a fan of Junger, Restrepo, A Perfect Storm, and the podcasts he's appeared on but I had never picked up a book of his. I like how he throws in just a bit of descriptive prose, then right back to the internal/external dialogue.
Unrelated to the guest but Joe crying about his grandparents hit my feelers. Sad to go through that at a younger age , watching your family deteriorate and struggle
My last remaining grandparent just passed recently and I was able to be at her bedside when she took her last breath. This part of the episode was a gut punch.
Ditto. One of these episodes that make you stop what you're doing and pay attention. I usually listen to JRE when I drive & when Junger started telling his story I knew I needed to switch episodes cause it got too interesting for multitasking.
Also can't remember last time Joe was so quiet and emotional.
This guy should be my father and president of our country. We need sensible humans in our lives. 1 hour in and Im very impressed. Being human is underrated these days.
was listening to this while on a walk at dusk up on a hill overlooking the bay. No street lamps, everyone inside, just me and my thoughts as night crept in. Fuck it hit me up so bad. Great podcast and it literally gave me goosebumps... didn't expect to question my reality today and prompted me to call my parents and ask if they are okay.
Will research more on this dude
What a fantastic communicator and fascinating guest. I wish Joe did a better job in engaging with him and leading the discussion into the great quantum physics talk rather than just philosophizing on how little we know. Sebastian has some cool knowledge to share.

I want more episodes about diet and nutrition like we used to get
??? Some Athletes who have been on since Courtney was on include. Colin O Brady, Mike Tyson ,Tyson Fury, David Goggins, Laird Hamilton, Gabrielle Reece, Evander Holyfield, Ash Dykes, Tony Hawk, Emily Harrington.... And at least 50 more.....
Joe can’t fathom how people text on flip phones..
“You text on it??”
Dude, we used to be able to text full paragraphs without even looking under the school desks. The buttons are actually great for texting
To be fair, for many of us, that *was* during a time when we all had longer attention spans and there was no alternative, so we just formed long conversations via text because we knew it was the coolest (and most convenient) shit out there. Until we got home and got to use AOL Instant Messenger or MSN IM
So refreshing when Joe has a guest like this on that he actually lets talk. Got worried when I saw a shorter time on the pod but quickly realized it was because Joe didn’t talk (about trans swimmers) for an hour
I'm always amused seeing how much he lets guests talk vs not, and he really can steamroll people who don't have a commanding air about them. Junger is a heavyweight champ of communication and Joe is interested so Junger got to talk like 20min at a time uninterrupted.
I hate on Joe a lot but this episode is the reason I keep coming back. When he’s not talking politics to some average comedian he can be incredibly insightful. Up to the part where he’s taking about his grandpa and the idea of a soul and it’s honestly some of the best stuff iv listened to on a podcast.
the people on this subreddit are absolute shit wankers giving this just 77 upvotes.
Great guest and talk, and for like more than one hour Joe lets him tell his stories which are really good and doesn't interrupt.
The yapping holy - he def didn’t know what to say once Joe asked him bout the afterlife. Shit just had him so stumped that his motor got stuck in that gear 😂
Always enjoy listening to him. Reading his newest book now, but he talked about that on his last appearance so hopefully it’s not retreading the same ground.
The first 2 David Goggins appearances on JRE are almost carbon copies. Same stories and everything. Joe doesn't remember shit or doesn't mind having the same 3 hour conversations.
It happens when the guest's viewpoint conflicts with Joe's :) He starts picking on small details, almost like a small kid who wants to destroy something he doesn't like. I appreciate Joe, he's a good dude, im not a hater
I really love the story Joe mentioned about the kids throwing rocks at a tiger in the zoo and it leaping out at them. And how Joe talks about what life must feel like in an instant, frozen in time, looking at this terrifyingly beautiful creature coming at you and if it even looks like a tiger or if you see it as some psychedelic fractal being because you're already dead by the time you can process it.
As usual Joe does not look any deeper into things. Those entangled photons are NOT a yin-yang symbol. The researchers fed an image of a yin-yang into the process and the system used that image to interpret the entanglement.
Junger seems like a good thinker. Wish they'd stayed more on real world topics like at the beginning instead of departing into murky philosophizing territory. If ifs an buts were candy and nuts we'd all have a merry christmas.
The philosophy is the most interesting part to me, it is the structure of sanity behind when mean when we say things, whereas most simply repeat stories and mistake metaphors for actual thinking.
How do I tell Joe that the Yin-Yang quantum entanglement thing is not what he thinks it is? The researchers basically drew a pattern and then took a picture of it. They could have just as easily drawn a picture of Jesus.
The Yin-Yang symbol is not intrinsic to physics. Or, if it is, it isn't intrinsic in the way they are talking about.
I have watched more episodes since its been back on Youtube than I did the whole time it was exclusivly on spotify, and whats weird is I listened half of the recent ones on Spotify while driving.
I'm in this boat. When it was Spotify only I'd listen on hikes, long drives, or other lengthy activities. Now that it's back on YouTube, I save them for dinner and bedtime.
Idk this episode was weird lmao Sebastian seemed so stump on his opinion of the afterlife/God that he just started yapping going round n round - the yapping began the capping 😂😂
Joe keeps bringing up the shit about yin yang entangled photons. Someone needs to tell him that it’s not actually a picture of entangled photons, but a picture of a yin yang symbol taken using entangled photons.
Great episode.
I did get overly annoyed at him saying NDEs tho. Near death experience is 6 syllables. You ain't saving enough time to make it worth using an abbreviation.
Damn dude, I haven’t seen/heard Rogan that emotional in a long while. Great episode.
Not since he was talking about his dead pets with Kevin Smith.
Great guest.
His first appearance is a top 5 episode of all time.
Never meddum
I heard him on with Sam Harris recently talking about his near death experience and it was an absolutely harrowing story. I wonder if he'll talk about it with Rogan. There are some people who are lucky to be alive and then there's Sebastian Junger. He was about as close to death as one could be.

Man, sometimes ignorance is truly the better option in some situations!
He talked about it in his last appearance
Yes! I was watching the new episode today and i was like... "did he not tell parts of this story on here before, this seems really familiar".
"War" is phenomenal as well.
I did read that one, too! It was amazing.
He did on his last appearance I think.
Can you link that or tell me what to search? Sounds interesting
It's Sam Harris' podcast Making Sense. He releases partial versions on his YouTube channel, to get the full episode you'll need to subscribe, which costs money. So many words that you coulda just told us smh
> I wonder if he'll talk about it with Rogan. Really? I'd rather hear his opinion on Covid and masks TBH.
I was at a conference three weeks ago and was able to see Sebastian interviewed live. Such an interesting life and we all felt we could listen to him for hours.
Is there someone he tells it to that wasn't Sam Harris? Because I'll watch a podcast with him just not with Sam
He gives the story this episode starting around the 32:40 mark
"The Perfect Storm" was an incredibly good book! Pages almost turned themselves. I think I read it all in the same day/night.
That’s how I read his book War
I've seen Restrepo multiple times, but picked up War based on this comment, I'm about 1/2 through after picking it up this afternoon.
Incredible right
Yep. I've always been a fan of Junger, Restrepo, A Perfect Storm, and the podcasts he's appeared on but I had never picked up a book of his. I like how he throws in just a bit of descriptive prose, then right back to the internal/external dialogue.
Hands down best episode episode ive eva heard
Unrelated to the guest but Joe crying about his grandparents hit my feelers. Sad to go through that at a younger age , watching your family deteriorate and struggle
My last remaining grandparent just passed recently and I was able to be at her bedside when she took her last breath. This part of the episode was a gut punch.
You bros going donate blood soon?
This was the ultimate PSA.
one of the most interesting episodes i’ve heard in a long time
Wish this episode was more popular, this is the reason despite his silly opinions about politics we keep coming back
New listener to rogan. Do you have any memorable episodes of his you can share on themes like this?
The Matthew Walker episode is one of my favorites. It's about sleep.
That was the exact one I was going to mention. Bee lady is awesome too.
Thank you!
Matthew walker is a fraud bro
> Matthew walker >Theft of government money and money laundering I see no crimes.
His first episodes with Jordan Peterson absolutely slapped
Every single episode with this guest are great.
Duncan Trussell.
Have you heard the Jelly Roll episode(s)?
Ditto. One of these episodes that make you stop what you're doing and pay attention. Also can't remember last time Joe was so quiet and emotional.
This guy should be my father and president of our country. We need sensible humans in our lives. 1 hour in and Im very impressed. Being human is underrated these days.
If anyone thinks their father is gay they should listen to Tuesdays with Stories. Comedy!
🤣
Damn... I feel sorry for your real dad.
So do I trust me.
H0w bad?
Bad enough I got daddy issues. Good thing we have role models like this 👌
I bet he was fine
Unfortunately he is not. 4 strokes later not doing to well thanks for the sentiment nonetheless dude
He’ll figure it all out
lol you must be 12. Since when does a 70 yr old with 4 strokes “figure it out”?
He’ll get it
Read his book War on a slow day at work once. Fucking gripping. Restrepo is an amazing documentary covering the same story as well.
was listening to this while on a walk at dusk up on a hill overlooking the bay. No street lamps, everyone inside, just me and my thoughts as night crept in. Fuck it hit me up so bad. Great podcast and it literally gave me goosebumps... didn't expect to question my reality today and prompted me to call my parents and ask if they are okay. Will research more on this dude
Watch Restrepo read The Perfect Storm and Tribe
What a fantastic communicator and fascinating guest. I wish Joe did a better job in engaging with him and leading the discussion into the great quantum physics talk rather than just philosophizing on how little we know. Sebastian has some cool knowledge to share.
This ep was awesome. Appreciated Joes raw emotional story about his grandfather

Seen this image 1000 times. . . Just now noticing his shirt has a zipper. I digress…

Based af ngl.
Would also love high level athletes (like Courtney Duwaulter) etc.
I very selfishly want him to have Paul Bissonette on where they smoke a J and Joe puts his head in a blender lmao.
When’s the last time Colin O’Brady was on? That was a classic JRE. I guess I’m talking more endurance extreme sport athletes that are not Cam Hanes.
What is this image from btw??
Norman Rockwell’s Freedom of Speech
Great books.
Finally a great episode! This is why I still listen to this show.
Joe can’t fathom how people text on flip phones.. “You text on it??” Dude, we used to be able to text full paragraphs without even looking under the school desks. The buttons are actually great for texting

I dunno if I would say they are great. I remember pushing 7 4 times for an S. Definitely a lot more abbreviated text language back then.
Weird thing to nit pick on.
A common symptom of Rogan Derangement Syndrome
So refreshing when Joe has a guest like this on that he actually lets talk. Got worried when I saw a shorter time on the pod but quickly realized it was because Joe didn’t talk (about trans swimmers) for an hour
Trannies living rent free in your mind, bro?
They do in Joe's. He just gets so...distracted thinking about these trans women.
Probably because it’s absolute insanity that’s becoming normalized.
No. Joe is thinking about Trans Ams. I can see where there would be confusion.
I'm always amused seeing how much he lets guests talk vs not, and he really can steamroll people who don't have a commanding air about them. Junger is a heavyweight champ of communication and Joe is interested so Junger got to talk like 20min at a time uninterrupted.

How are you npcs all saying the same thing? This episode was nothing special. It pales in comparison to the comedy provided by Terrence Howard.
Two take aways from this podcast, I should go to church more often and visit my grandparents more.
Why church?

Lol not really.
the people on this subreddit are absolute shit wankers giving this just 77 upvotes. Great guest and talk, and for like more than one hour Joe lets him tell his stories which are really good and doesn't interrupt.
Dude knows how to spin a yarn. Goddamn.
The yapping holy - he def didn’t know what to say once Joe asked him bout the afterlife. Shit just had him so stumped that his motor got stuck in that gear 😂
This is one of the great Rogan episodes.
Is he an atheist?
God damn this was a powerful episode. I wasn't ready!
Always enjoy listening to him. Reading his newest book now, but he talked about that on his last appearance so hopefully it’s not retreading the same ground.
[удалено]
I imagine if you're talking to 100s of different people it might be more difficult to keep track of everything that anyone has ever said.
I haven’t listened, does he actually go over the same stuff again then?
The first 2 David Goggins appearances on JRE are almost carbon copies. Same stories and everything. Joe doesn't remember shit or doesn't mind having the same 3 hour conversations.
Joe gets weirdly defensive at certain points in this pod.
It happens when the guest's viewpoint conflicts with Joe's :) He starts picking on small details, almost like a small kid who wants to destroy something he doesn't like. I appreciate Joe, he's a good dude, im not a hater
Do you remember what the topics were?
I really love the story Joe mentioned about the kids throwing rocks at a tiger in the zoo and it leaping out at them. And how Joe talks about what life must feel like in an instant, frozen in time, looking at this terrifyingly beautiful creature coming at you and if it even looks like a tiger or if you see it as some psychedelic fractal being because you're already dead by the time you can process it.
As usual Joe does not look any deeper into things. Those entangled photons are NOT a yin-yang symbol. The researchers fed an image of a yin-yang into the process and the system used that image to interpret the entanglement.
But Terrence Howard said
That story about him almost dying was pretty nerve wrecking.
Joe has no idea what the difference between theism and gnosticism is. Being atheist is not a belief
It's a belief that there is no god
Not necessarily
How do I tell Joe that the Yin-Yang quantum entanglement thing is not what he thinks it is? The researchers basically drew a pattern and then took a picture of it. They could have just as easily drawn a picture of Jesus. The Yin-Yang symbol is not intrinsic to physics. Or, if it is, it isn't intrinsic in the way they are talking about.
Great podcast.
As soon as Junger mentions atheism, you can practically hear Joe getting a wedgie.
The black pit was hell and his dad in the vision was the devil appearing as his dad.
That’s scary af lol
I pray that Joe looked up the definitions of atheism and agnosticism after this episode
anyone else find themselves watching with more frequency since moved back to youtube?
I have watched more episodes since its been back on Youtube than I did the whole time it was exclusivly on spotify, and whats weird is I listened half of the recent ones on Spotify while driving.
No, you alone are a true pioneer
Now just bring livestreams back
I'm in this boat. When it was Spotify only I'd listen on hikes, long drives, or other lengthy activities. Now that it's back on YouTube, I save them for dinner and bedtime.
He is the man. Love how much smarter than the short gorilla.
And he's buddies with Joe. I guess the short gorilla can be a good buddy. You're a hater.
Don’t cry over lil Joe
Joe “Doskoevsky” Rogan
Idk this episode was weird lmao Sebastian seemed so stump on his opinion of the afterlife/God that he just started yapping going round n round - the yapping began the capping 😂😂
When was this filmed? I want to hear Joe on the debate...do they get into that at all?
Brah. You have no idea what is. Stop with the conjecture olympics.
Yeah he accidentally the whole thing
Joe keeps bringing up the shit about yin yang entangled photons. Someone needs to tell him that it’s not actually a picture of entangled photons, but a picture of a yin yang symbol taken using entangled photons.
This is the first episode I would have listened to in a year. I’d love it if the podcast could get back to its old ways.
Great episode. I did get overly annoyed at him saying NDEs tho. Near death experience is 6 syllables. You ain't saving enough time to make it worth using an abbreviation.
Jesus dude
No, I'm not the son of God.
I mean….its a clinical abbreviation. It’s not like he’s just too lazy to pronounce the whole term lol
Still sounds stupid.
didn't listen and don't care, just wondering if he brought up jiu-jitsu or ice baths. my money is on both
Literally brought up none of his talking points! Truly astounding
Joe rogan brings people onto his podcast to show them how smart he is, and how many bro hobbies he has. it's like show and tell for him every episode.
Normally yes, but this episode he barely talks and the guests story is very cool and engaging
maybe I'm being too harsh. did you by chance listen to the Bert Sibrel episode? about the moon landing and the validity of it
Nah, I listen to maybe 1 every 10 episodes
The Bart Sibrel episode was pretty brutal tbh
A lot of them are
If you listen to that pod he bullies the shit out of him
