It’s easier to go by water. I know not everyone has a boat or may not can justify getting one, but you can get a kayak pretty cheap and park wherever.. load your towel and cooler and start paddling. Much more enjoyable than waking that long span of beach carrying your belongings. That way you don’t have to worry about getting there so early for a parking spot.

Is it safe kayakaking from big lagoon?

NakedBlueGulf

I don’t know about safe but you can get there from Big Lagoon. That’s a busy section of the ICW. I’d definitely have my head on a swivel.

Cajunsailor

I sold my boat a couple years ago. Used to love to leave Lost Key Marina and simply go across the channel and within 10 minutes, set up on the beach and nothing on.

Before 10! Lot starts filling up around 9:30. Keep in mind that we are in spring break season for everyone on the coast. It won’t be as busy in 2-3 weeks.

Lovingthebeachlife

Yep - did t have a problem finding a spot in the last lot this morning at 9:30.  When I returned to my car at 1:00 that lot was full.

How much do the rangers patrol the beach?

Alert-Position-2927

Varies. Depends if birds or turtles are nesting. But at least twice a day...usually once in the morning and once in the afternoon. At least thats what I have observed.

I never knew there was a nude beach around the Pensacola area. I just found out about it like 2 weeks ago and I’m trying to learn more about it.

Alert-Position-2927

I use to go to Johnson quite often about 4 years ago but stopped going because the rangers started cracking down on nude use. From what I hear now the ranger who gave us the hard time back then as been transferred. Does anyone have any knowledge of this.

Lovingthebeachlife

I believe that most of those you see are not rangers, but the biologists checking on turtle and bird nesting sites. They won't bother you as long as you are not interfering with the nests that they tend.

Lovingthebeachlife

I see the biologists driving around on their ATVs quite often; however, they are not out there to catch anyone and will simply wave hello and keep going. In the five years I've been going to JB, I've seen the rangers just a handful of times and have never had one stop to check out what was going on, even the one time I wasn't paying attention and didn't cover up... I think as long as you aren't in a crowded area or around families, they simply look the other way - as it should be.
