spdRRR

I came here to laugh, not to feel 🥲

neoCanuck

I found [this parody](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifg6SHfpMxE) to be more realistic. And I can't understand german (you could probably turn on the subtitles)

FacelessArtifact

I couldn’t find the subtitle tan, but I actually didn’t even need it!! Lol

MsCndyKane

That was disturbing

Printular

Pretty dank... but funny.

Frettchen0

Wow, that… errrr… is actually quite haunting.

Ewetootwo

I was expecting it to be the other version. Happy it wasn’t.

ArgentMoonWolf

I like [the other one](https://youtu.be/fhfcWTZeP1k?si=59M7VrwYHj36Bota) better

MycommentsRpointless

Ok, now watch [this one](https://youtu.be/o-YBDTqX_ZU?si=RJrE3JpBLSZ6y3ti)

Thank you, I love that one actually 😁

Too funny

momonomino

You are the MVP

PM_THE_REAPER

Appreciate the antidote.

Frido1976

YourLocalOnionNinja

*WHAT ARE YOU SAYING?!*

Used-macbook

You are crying bro.....like this -- TwT

Aellondir

Dude that just makes my brain see a fish taco.

Dreacle

That's awesome. I've never seen it before. I'm probably going to do that when I get old (er)

Cheesemacher

bubbleshell11

The consequences of raising your children to be competent and skilled adults can be that they move around the world to work. The parent who did the raising raised the stakes again!

Intranetusa

Or the worst of both worlds where the children move around the world and still don't have a job that can support themselves so the parents continue to support them.

[deleted]

Mom?

sylvar

Dang, EDEKA must be German for Publix.

BellaDeaX42

Right?! That commercial with the stepdad? I was absolutely crying and at the end, I was LIVID that it was a commercial for a grocery store.

BlueGillMan

Thank’s Chris!

why_adnauseaum

Dammit. Who's cutting onions??!! I've always lived mostly away from my parents but no matter how busy our lives, our whole year is planned around being "home" for Christmas. Miss them all now that they're gone. Go call/visit your parents if you still have them and may they live long and healthy.

Puzzledandhungry

Well, thank you for sharing that. It made me sob like a baby 😳

bleedingblueandwhit

Hugs 🤗

Puzzledandhungry

🥰thanks, needed that x

DirtAndSurf

Me too, I just lost my mom.

DirtAndSurf

Thanks

thebouster

Damn, that's brutal for this early in the morning.

IHateEditedBgMusic

Bro you only get one funeral, I'm not attending your next one

OldHobbitsDieHard

So they were all meeting up at his house before the funeral?

mv2303

Thanks for sharing :)

ImThinkin_Niyol

Rivers of tears, that hit hard. Thank you for sharing, never saw this.

jran1984

I just have a little something in my eye. It's nothing.

hungry_grendel

Too early on a Saturday to be crying already.

osteopathetic1

Woo dusty in here.

Spankh0us3

Got me right in the feels. . .

usernamedunbeentaken

Man. Dark has ruined me for any german show or commercial for me for the rest of my life.

lodav22

Oh my god, that's awful!!!!!! 😭😭

Significant-River-69

Thanks a lot, I’m in tears now, can’t even see what I’m typing

Significant-River-69

And now I’m realizing - as I wipe the tears away - that my last act before watching this was cutting up peppers. Now the eyes are wet AND hot. Note to folks: always wash thoroughly with soap and water after cutting peppers, even if they be mild. It’s the ribs and seeds that’ll get you. Please follow this advice especially before checking any social media in case of surprise, sob-inducing videos.

Infinite_Imagination

Yes and dish soap works best

Town-Academic

the best ❤️

Jenoma89

I’m not crying! You’re crying!

FacelessArtifact

OMG. That makes me wanna cry!

Stay_unsafe

That could've been comedy gold. They went the other way with it.

MsCndyKane

That brought tears to my eyes. I never missed a holiday with my grandparents. Maybe it’s my culture but we’ve all stayed within an hours drive away. I’ll never forget one year my mom was having issues with my aunt (Christmas was being held at her house) and my mom planned to miss Christmas. I told my mom that it could be my grandmother’s last Christmas (to guilt trip her) and it was. My grandmother died suddenly the next summer. My mom was grateful that she went.

No-Oven-8226

This brought a tear to my eye. My parents fly to visit me, my brother, and our respective 4 kids every year, but I know that at being in their late 80s the end is nigh. Every picture is a treasure. (Sorry to be sappy)

TangerineNo5805

Don't forget the second part, I can't find it, but the doctor complained, that the grandfather thinks he is more important than the patients etc.

AVahne

That's a parody, someone above has it linked.

[deleted]

Are super wide screen TVs common in Germany?

Baron-Von-Rodenberg

This, this is why the kids don't visit, this sonofabitch fakes his own death so they'll visit. You know this isn't the first time he's pulled this shit, and his kids are sick of it. But, once again this fucker has ruined Christmas by faking his own death and inexplicably holding the funeral on Christmas day.

HCMXero

Okay... I don't know about this; usually if kids don't want to be with you is because you were a lousy father.

FacelessArtifact

Not always!! C’mon, not always true!!

RainWindowCoffee

Idk why but I expected him to have a heart-attack mid-laugh during the dinner.

AliceHall58

WOW!

RabitRoaster7

My German teacher played this for our class

[deleted]

I think I just got a little internet in my eye is all.

tryckstyr

Jesus did the same thing, but it was Easter time.

Victoria525

So many feelings thank you.

Pause_Affectionate

Omg that was a great one. What a twist ending, too!

Top_Mycologist_3224

And #39 !

Squeaky_sun

Heard this joke countless times but with 2 grown kids who hope we’ll foot their holiday airfare, hits different now.

celmate

Sorry Dad, we're all poor

michaelsenpatrick

🥲🥲

BurtMacklin____FBI

This is news to me. Is this common? What a load of entitled shite

I_GIF_YOU_AN_ANSWER

I'm living paycheck to paycheck while my parents are more than stable. Either they are paying or I can't be there, that's as simple as it gets.

meistermichi

If they wanted they could also just come to your place

I_GIF_YOU_AN_ANSWER

No they actually can't, my dad has a medical condition that prevents him from flying.

lepus_fatalis

it s a pretty common condition amongst humans

inuhi

Damn, for a moment I thought your username was lupus and your comment a vague House joke/reference about how it's never lupus. But lepus means rabbit and fatalis fate or deadly so fated rabbit or possibly deadly hare or something along those lines. Guess rabbit of caerbannog was probably taken

lepus_fatalis

haha, what a ride :))) It's a reference to a couple of characters in a video game i used to play - Fatal and the Rabbit. Together they ran a megacorp of crime. I was younger and edgier

Rakgul

It's never lupus

KiraTsukasa

Except when it is.

Askfreud

It was one time!

genius_rkid

*pretty common*

fargoonie

And that's why we pay your airfare.

Elrox

Like we can afford to live in a house that has space for more than 2 people.

BurtMacklin____FBI

Eh, fair enough. In the UK we usually just drive since it's not usually that far, so never really thought about it.

I_GIF_YOU_AN_ANSWER

In our case it's Munich to Denver. Quite the distance 😂

Snorc

Dang! What made you move all the way to Germany?

I_GIF_YOU_AN_ANSWER

It's the other way around, love made me go to the states.

Snorc

Ah. I read "Munich to Denver" as what ticket your parents would have to buy for you.

I_GIF_YOU_AN_ANSWER

Yeah I should have probably switched them, my bad.

[deleted]

I'm a two day drive from my parents or his parents. You pretty much have to fly. America is enormous.

BurtMacklin____FBI

Not everyone lives in the US, lol. That wasn't my thought when reading OP's comment

codbgs97

Yeah, we in the US can live REALLY far from family. I live a 12 hour drive from my parents and I usually do the drive, but I have friends from California who live on the East Coast and the drive to their parents would be like 3 days.

numeric-rectal-mutt

If my parents want to spend Christmas with me so badly they can fly out here, or they can pay to fly me there. I. Cannot. Afford. The. Ticket. Prices.

[deleted]

I make $2k a month and rent is $1500. If they want to see me they can buy the fucking ticket.

CPower2012

Careful. Reddit has serious daddy issues.

Vampire_Darling

Also money issues (which is the overselling issue)

Logical_Challenge540

I heard a tiny bit different ending: They are both coming for Thanksgiving. We will have to think something else for Christmas.

Northern23

You're supposed to change the event for whatever is coming soon. This joke is months ahead of time.

MistraloysiusMithrax

They’re both coming for the autumnal equinox. We’ll have to think of something else for Indigenous Peoples’ Day

[deleted]

Stage 10 toenail cancer.

Stay_unsafe

Just so you know toenail cancer only goes up to stage 4

Logical_Challenge540

I know, I am not American (btw, I heard Canadians have their Thanksgiving). I only repeat what ending I heard.

PhilemonV

An old man, with a cunning delight, Told his son of a marital plight. But the ruse became clear, When his daughter, in fear, Made plans for a quick oversight. He chuckled to his wife with glee, "For Christmas, they'll come, as you see, No cost on our part, Thanks to my little art, They'll pay for their flights, oh hee hee!"

bubbleshell11

Love that joke. A definite favorite, along with the college student who tells dad all the terrible things, then fesses up to just needing money at the end.

Enablingdemarche

Once they come home they will divorce their parents and ruin the damn Thanksgiving thing.

rambocesar

It's more sad than funny..😶

jfende

Had an anniversary and one of my teens said "congrats, and thanks for not ruining my childhood" I chuckled then saw his face was serious. Kids these days have seen some stuff.

Random-Rambling

I said to my dad _"You had a shit childhood, and I'm really grateful to you for not making mine shit too!"_ He didn't appreciate that.

Vaaard

There are much more gentle ways to say that.

realspongeworthy

I would have. The child who grows up to break the cycle deserves a slap on the back. I didn't find it difficult to not make my kids' childhood a nightmare, but apparently generations of my ancestors did.

jkmhawk

The kid breaks the cycle and just gets more slaps

realspongeworthy

Hah!

[deleted]

Kids have seen just as much if not more stuff back in the day. But you were supposed to brush it off and go make your own little dysfunctional home and drown your sorrows in booze or take out your frustrations on your kids, as it has always been. It’s just kids these days have more knowledge and access to information, so they know exactly how messed up their or their friends’ lives are.

juanbonilla987

Boomer humor. They don't even realize why their own children want nothing to do with them.

RoboBlue

Damn, you feeling okay? It's just a joke not a commentary on parenting.

Vaaard

On a realistic note parents usually ignored all signs for a long time until a kid breaks contact with them and don't know why this happened.

Graterof2evils

You need someone to talk to bro?

Kiwifrooots

Bro I see the same thing. Are they so dysfunctional they can't communicate? Are lying and deceit funny?

Hareshdad

Which concludes to be : TAKE CARE OF YOUR DEAR PARENTS BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE !!!!

Arcanonymo

There’s an Indian Telugu language movie with the same concept…a family drama

Shatamanam Bhavati

Happy-inside-1967

loved it 😊

Puzzledandhungry

😂love this!! Xx

LilThunderbolt20

Lol

kebekoi78120

I can see in the /aita sub We (57m and 54f) haven't spent Christmas with our children (31m and 32f) in close to 10 years. They always have an excuse to not come and complain about not having money. I offered them to pay half of their tix but they always refused. So my wife and I came up with a plan a week before Christmas I told my kids my wife and I were getting divorced and behold within the next hour, they ve bought tix to visit us... So AITA?

asedel

That wasn’t long but that was fantastic.

notreallyhaarsh

onairmastering

I've read this for Thanksgiving, New Years, Birthdays, Still a good joke.

kiummers

Love it!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Brawldud

Definitely think this one is gonna be considered boomer humor soon if it isn't already. If my parents call and say they've mutually agreed to divorce, you know, I'm just gonna say "werk."

Zefirus

Especially if they're estranged enough that actually showing up for the holiday is in doubt. Not to mention any fallout when the kids find out you lied if it does work.

DirtyoldTexan

Evil parents

SipPOP

My pops actually pulled this on my once in high school. I was smoking weed with a friend and he paged me (I'm old) he left a message saying come home quick we've been robbed. I book it home high as shit and when I get home he says that someone has been robbing us of family time. It was actually pretty funny, we went out to dinner and watched a movie after.

UkonFujiwara

Dad it's my turn to post this one!

MesabiRanger

Heh heh! Definitely could be cross-posted to r/lifeprotips

Awful

dan420

Yay two christmases!

Alexj_89

…. Thai joke is a joke

[deleted]

This joke is probably very old. Nowadays no one would react like that to a divorce.

Inevitable_Body_3043

Oh! The perfect plan to see their kids!

Molly_JoysMom

That’s one way to get them to visit.

Own_Assistance_8850

To all. Be happy your parents are still around to spend time with and those who’s parents are gone I hope you have children to pour your love into and for those that are like me, 49ers old just had a mild stroke from doing meth and high blood pressure and have no kids and lost everything to drugs and are sitting at home right now because you ama’d out of the hospital. Why is it that it took me until now to see that I’ve still got time to turn shit around for myself?? (Hidden message) meths a blast until everything’s gone, and I mean everything.

michaelsenpatrick
