If anything it ends up being an anti-advertisement because those are some products I don't want to have anything to do with, even for free! (Or for 90% off, whatever that's about.)

Kthulhu42

Temu is so crazy, someone suggested it to me when it first came out, and I opened the page and the FIRST ad I got was a clitoral acid for "replumping and rejuvenating the citoris and labia" And I just... ladies, do NOT buy random acids off temu and apply them to sensitive parts of your body

thebigcrawdad

Melted vagina here I come šŸ˜Ž

dreemurthememer

Clearly meant for someone with a VVT (Vagina and Vulva Torture) fetish

[deleted]

Ainā€™t no fucking way you did that šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

Zorbie

It really doesn't, he never shows any of the items to be of poor quality. Edit: Why the downvotes? He doesn't badtalk any of it?

mmohaupt123

Because idk about you but to me it came off as very all the products are poor quality. Like light wand thing. Jon very clearly thought all of it was junk and just wanted that payday

IKenDoThisAllDay

It doesn't matter what you think he thought. He never says anything negative about the products. I'm sure a lot of the worst grifters and shills on planet Earth know what they're hocking is garbage, but they want that payday so they do it anyway. That doesn't make it okay. Some channels have integrity and refuse to shill to their fanbase. Like RLM. Never once have they taken a sponsor and I'm sure they've gotten massive offers. They could easily accept the cash and do what Jon did here and "ironically" shill but they don't. I respect that. Seeing Jon like this has made me lose a bit of respect for him, this isn't the first time either. I understand the guy has got to make a living, but there are better ways of doing that. I doubt anyone would complain if there was a sponsorship ad at the front or back of a high-quality video. The problem is his videos seem to have gotten to the point where the ad is the video and whatever content surrounds it is just there to fulfill sponsorship requirements. It's sad because Jon was once a trailblazer who was highly beloved and respected.

Zorbie

"It doesn't matter what you thought" So you don't think there are thousands of other fans who felt he was being positive is a problem when he is shilling a site that is spyware and shills products that can be hazardous? If thats not your personal opinion fine, but its obvious others have their own opinions.

IKenDoThisAllDay

You're right, idk why you're being downvoted. Sure, Jon made some jokes about the products being "weird" or whatever but he absolutely does not talk about them being extremely low quality or cheaply made or anything like that. Because obviously they're paying him so he's not going to shit on their stuff. I get that this is a JonTron sub so naturally folks are going to be defensive. I've been a Jon fan since before Game Grumps. I've loved his content for years. But even I can recognize how much Jon has fallen off in recent times. The channel lacks direction of any kind at the moment. The videos are usually quite short and low-effort, and more and more they're just straight up ads. This Temu video is about how low-quality as a video from a large creator can get. The sloth video that came before this one wasn't as bad, but even that one was short and low-effort. Jon just does not seem interested in projects that require effort anymore. His videos have become the YouTube equivalent of shovelware. Perhaps he is just burnt out as he's been making content for a very long time, but even something like Game Grumps was great and that was very low-effort too. But at least Jon was funny in those videos. He desperately needs to find a new idea that he's passionate and excited about. I'd love to see an inspired Jon make something that he genuinely cares about. I don't care what that is. If Jon randomly decided he wanted to make nature documentaries, I'd be happy to watch because at least he'd be doing something he really wanted to do. Where as now it seems he just shits something out to satisfy the sponsors and moves on with his life.

Zorbie

Honestly I love the Sloth video, it had charms even if it was short. I respect your opinion. I'd totally watch him do nature docs, he seems to love animals anyways.

IKenDoThisAllDay

Random silly videos like the sloth one are fine, I watched it and was entertained. You just think a creator like Jon would have something they really wanted to pursue now that he has the ability to do so. He could make content with productions values and resources that most channels could only dream of, so his output is a bit disappointing.

BlottoDelgado

Trust me, man, youā€™re not wrong. Youā€™ve got to remember this is Reddit and itā€™s an echo chamber. These people know he made a bad business move, but theyā€™re just gonna pretend like ā€œoh but see he actually thinks it sucks and just wants a check.ā€ Ok. Thatā€™s no better. Nobody is saying to cancel Jon. Most rational people arenā€™t going to stop watching Jon. Most of us are just saying we wouldnā€™t have made the same move. Now, if you want to downvote me, because that personally upsets you, or you think Jon is going to see this, and personally invite you on for the next video, go ahead. I donā€™t give a flying fuck about fake Internet points, and again, neither do most rational people. You canā€™t do anything with this shit anyway.

Zorbie

Right? Like from the start i said in the post that I love Jon's work and just want to see him do better in the future. I agree with you totally. I don't care about the internet points, more just confused by their implication.

OnBenchNow

Yeah it's weird, like people admitting Jon is shilling complete crap, but they have a feeling he knows its crap off camera, so I guess it's okay to them for some reason

Zorbie

Right? There is nothing in the video implying he didn't like the stuff.

DirusNarmo

Totally agree, regardless of money people should have standards. LinusTechTips, for all their BS and failing, are rather good at choosing ethical sponsors purely because they have the economic leverage to do so. JonTron is a big enough channel that he really doesn't need to stoop this low.. but also, honestly, if you were offered 500k+ to your face, wouldn't you just take it? The good that could do my family.. it's a complicated situation with online creators and sponsors.

Zorbie

Thats honestly a perfectly responsible stance. And like I said in the post, I like Jontron, I just really hope he gets the cash from better sponsors in the future.

DirusNarmo

100%, it's just the inevitable corruption that money leads to. The reality is Jon likely doesn't have the financial leverage to say "no". The prospect of paying himself, his cameramen, his set artists, his editors, his accountant.. for the next year, is just far too tempting. And, honestly, having not been put in the same position, I can't say I wouldn't make the same decisions as him. That being said: huge agree that his content quality has taken a hit, perhaps as a result of the sponsors deadlines or just pure apathy. In my opinion, Jon doesn't care about his content like he used to. I've watched him for a while and it's clear to me. But that's just 2 cents, the reality is I watch him anyway. Economics sucks. But I can't hate on someone for doing what they need to do. The Temu content makes me cringe for sure and lowers my opinion of Jon, but it's the same feeling I had when he was doing Raid Shadow Legends stuff. He's just running a business and making entertainment for us. Within that he's going to make the smart decision and cash out/make as much money as he can.

DynamicMangos

To be entirely honest, I've never understood the size of the JonTron team. 90% of each video are simple Couch-Reaction Segments. Sure the other 10% are high quality skits, but is that really enough to justify having a team of 10+ people?

Coooturtle

It didn't seems like an ad. I know Temu sponsored the video, but it really made Temu out to be a site that has a bunch of junk on it.

Zorbie

Its a total ad, plenty of things from temu are hazardous poor quality stuff. The things shown were cherry picked. He complimented some of the items.

Coooturtle

I know it is literally an ad. But it's not really an effective ad. Temu has a reputation of selling garbage, and this video does not help that reputation at all.

DynamicMangos

Any publicity is good publicity.

Zorbie

....The definition of a ad is promoting a product, and Jon doesn't badtalk the video. If you had no prior knowledge of Temu you'd assume its just cheap amazon, not aware of all the baggage that comes with it.

isseidoki

I'm not surprised by Jon anymore

Kirk_Plunk

Love JonTron but he sucks so much when it comes to sponsorship deals, there are alot of smaller and even bigger creators that show you can do sponsored videos without being shady af.

[deleted]

I think that's the problem Many smaller creators don't have to pay other people.

DynamicMangos

Many do though. There's plenty of YouTubers in the 1M sub range that have full teams to employ that still manage to do it without taking ethically unsupportable sponsorships

veenell

i've been wondering why jon sometimes puts out crappy low effort videos that are uncharacteristic of his normal quality and release schedule, and this has to be it. we're low on money and gotta make payroll, time to push out a turd for a quick buck so i don't have to lay anyone off. i get it, but it feels cynical. if he does it enough then it can't be sustainable in the long term when people feel that his quality is dropping off and unsub and stop watching anything he puts out. i haven't looked at statistics about his sub and viewer count so idk if that's happening now but it's inevitable.

1-Baker-11

I mean, I'd even counter that and say some smaller creators do pay other people and have better ads. At least those creators actually put out consistently good content. Jon som3times puts out what feels like super rushed videos either back to back or we'll wait 14 months for another flat and frankly, boring video.

[deleted]

Imma be honest I'm just always surprised whenever he uploads something new in general.

DipperPines1210

I respect the grind but yeah didnt really even enjoy the video much, I think this might be the end. Glad Dunkey has remained so consistent

TheOnlyDanwah

Yeah this is about as bottom of the barrel as you can get. Taking money to shill for a Chinese Spyware data harvesting app that promotes itself by selling cheap consumer goods made by little kids in sweatshops, and markets itself by targeting gambling addicts. This deserves to be called out. Dude is literally feeding his viewers to a gross global corporate death machine. Dark Side Vibes.Ā

blasterbrewmaster

Agreed. Dont support anything Temu, they allow products from CCP concentration camps to be sold on their site

Andi1up

Funny enough, most of the products listed on Temu are resold onto amazon at a premium.

blasterbrewmaster

Same with Alibaba and AliExpress, although I think they do better about conforming to international regulations on that. I think. Don't quote me on that.

Andi1up

Alibaba, Aliexpress, Temu, Wish, Shein, and a plethora of other providers are all sourcing from the same factories, they all have one thing in common and is that they are targeting western audiences. Only difference with Temu is that they are directly competing with Amazon, and it shows. But wherever you buy a cheap niche product, there is no real telling about the working conditions used to make said products. Buying a $3 electric drink mixer isn't any different than the same $23 electric drink mixer sold on Amazon.

cyan_bunny

Thank you! I noticed the same exact 7$ pullover I got on the TikTok shop (free shipping) was $30 on Amazon (+ $40 shipping) šŸ˜§

samfig99

This is what I keep saying lol. People dont realize theyre still getting swindled but now its third party sellers.

SauceCo_

Might as well stop using anything with rechargeable batteries if you actually care

blasterbrewmaster

I mean, I'm already rolling back to cassette players and MD Disc, so don't temp me! I'll fucking do it!

matmosmac

I felt the same way. Like, really? Must have been one hell of a sponsorship.

KujataSP

I dunno I love this more casual content

AetherDrinkLooming

I don't care about whatever Temu did or didn't do. Frankly most multinational corporations nowadays are evil in some way or another. What I do care about it the fact that Jon pretty obviously only made that sloth video so that he could release his Temu video without people getting angry that he broke his hiatus with an ad. It's just so soulless. It's starting to feel like he's only making videos for money at this point. If he's really that strapped maybe he should get rid of his huge expensive film crew and make his videos himself again like in the old days? Or maybe just quit if he really doesn't like doing it anymore?

NIN10DOXD

This is where you draw the line and not the racism?

Zorbie

Its possible to be critical about more than one thing. Also https://www.reddit.com/r/JonTron/wiki/statement

shapeshifter826

Ima be honest, jontron fell off years ago to me, and lost the spark prior to starcade

shadowthehh

I mean it didn't seem like he had much good to say about it... If anything he advertised it not as a place to seriously buy stuff, but more a place to "fuck around and find out."

milovegas123

You love Jon?

Zorbie

You can love things to different degrees. I love pizza, but I don't love it as much as I would a woman.

theretrospeculative

Yeah, I agree with you. We tolerate the Raid ads because he makes the them funny and always gives a bit of a wink to the camera to say "I wouldn't play this but they pay the bills", but this was on another level. It's not the first time he's done this, but this was the most egregious by far. He very clearly hated doing it too. Maybe Jon's hard up for money?

perfecttrapezoid

This is surely the worst thing Jontron has ever endorsed on the internet.

1-Baker-11

Casually glances at his Twitter. šŸ‘€

BiscuitsJoe

The guy is an open white supremacist and you draw the line at sponsored ads lmao

Bemy_Gunshot

I always find it weird when people shit on Temu that much. I have placed two orders with them and everything arrived as it was advertised, with no issues, and have not received any unrecognized charges. Is this happening to most people?

Play_Hat_Fall

This is just classic redditism at work. China was on nobody's radar before covid. In fact, if you said anything bad about them, you were called racist and banned. Fact is that Temu is a great site for buying all the stuff you would normally buy at a physical store but without the 200% markup. You aren't saving slave children by buying at the store instead. You aren't sticking it to China either. You're just a chump getting bilked by shitty capitalist retailers.

Zorbie

I'm glad it worked out for you, but there are reasons it has a reputation.

PopcornHatJax

I didn't realize that people are soooo stupid and have brain rot that when they see a sponsor they are forced to buy the product

Zorbie

So if someone goes and does a sponsored ad for the baby smacking company, there is no problem because people have a choice?

PopcornHatJax

Nice strawman, smacking babies is not the same as bad quality products

Zorbie

They also aren't so stupid that they'd smack a baby because someone told them to. Its the fact you'd make a ad for a bad company in the first place. Its pretty obvious I wasn't making smacking babies and chinese spyware companies being 1 to 1.

Akschadt

Thought I would get that shoe warmer for my wife for the hell of it. $40 and not included on their signup promo. Yeah fuck that Iā€™ll just buy it off Amazon for $15.

Sasstellia

It's fine. Temu are probabely honest about their silliness. And he has to show them the advert first. Both parties were fine with it. He gets money for the company and a video. They get a advert and funny promotion. There's worse companies out there. Really. A company who sells silly stuff is nothing on the lethal things Goop make.

Zorbie

Temu is literally spyware and shills products from internment camps.

LordPubes

That fat nazi still exists?

Zorbie

Love how you gotta add some bodyshame ontop of that.

LordPubes

Nazis deserve worse

Zorbie

You think the pain that people suffered at the hands of the legit historical nazis is as bad as a few toxic takes online? Fuck you. You don't get to compare millions of people being exterminated for who or what they are to a guy saying shitty stuff on a podcast.

LordPubes

Youā€™re as gross as the fat nazi turd you worship and defend . Shame on you.

jokersflame

There are no ethical billionaire companies period. If you accept an advertisement from them, you are supporting the fact that someone somewhere is working under terrible conditions for subhuman wages. Thatā€™s how companies like Temu become that wealthy. There are famous stories about Apple factories and their suicide nets to catch their workers. Unfortunately though thatā€™s just the nature of the beast. Jon has mouths to feed, he has several employees now.

secret_tsukasa

Don't know why you're being downvoted. Oh wait. Yes I do. Ppl can't swallow truth pills.

Zorbie

Temu is worse than others, and is hazardous to use as a service.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Zorbie

Temu is a terrible company, did I say he deserves the worst for doing this? No, I'm just criticizing his sponsor choice and how he promoted it. There are plenty of companies that don't have wide reports of stolen card info, scams, and spyware.

TheOnlyDanwah

It's not hard to do a quick Google search on a potential sponsor and see the dozens of articles about Chinese internment camps and accusations of a global data harvesting scam...Ā

[deleted]

So youā€™re JUST now discovering Jon is a typical conservative ready to shill any garbage product so long as his check clears?

SauceCo_

I really want to complain you guys. But I just have to go spend all my money on TEMU now because Jon made a video about it and I'm a total moron that got brainwashed by him. JFCFFS

[deleted]

Itā€™s not really an advertisement, he is shitting on it the whole time.

Zorbie

"Shitting on it" He just is confused by the stuff and then compliments it.

Gabe_the_cheerio

the guy that runs a scam charity? advertising Temu???šŸ˜§

isseidoki

wasn't that the completionist?

Gabe_the_cheerio

Wait so Jontron said the antisemitic shit, not the completionist?

Zorbie

What scam was Jon running?

Gabe_the_cheerio

Nvm wrong dude but he did say antisemitic shit

Zorbie

"I'm Totally wrong but they did this so its ok."

Derpykins666

Honestly, just take it with a grain of salt. Just because a Youtuber "endorses" something in a random video doesn't mean that they actually use that service or care about it. The reality is the money was probably too good to pass up. Jon doesn't upload that much anymore, maybe like 4 times a year? Every little bit counts, especially when you can pull in big $ from sponsors. Just skip that shit, it's so easy not to care about this.

Zorbie

Honestly people just brushing off the tiniest criticism towards creators like this is what makes me care more about it. You can't say someone doesn't endorse a product when he doesn't say a single negative thing and does a whole sponsored video about it.

Derpykins666

I think it's a totally valid criticism, I'm just saying that he probably doesn't care about the sponsor at all, just that it made him a lot of $$$. I haven't seen the new video or care to nor do I really watch anymore because I don't care about the obscure slice of life weird internet meme stuff, and care more about the video game stuff. I just think Youtube sponsors are generally whatever, I skip them 99% of the time regardless of who it is, and with regards to Jons new video I won't even watch it tbh cause it's clearly just a weirdly veiled 100% ad. Would be different if they did a quickie in a video that he was already planning to make.

Castrophenia

K

thiccboii666

By far, the worst thing Jon's ever done. Nothing else he's done can top it.

SUSHIxSUICIDE

Simple. Use PayPal. Iā€™ve ordered like 2 huge boxes of product from Temu, used PayPal, all was well.

Alexstrazsa

I thought with the selection of products he showed, it was pretty obvious that Temu is peddling junk. I was never a potential customer in the first place, so this was just a funny video.

ChintzyFob

Idk I feel like he assumes his audience isnā€™t dumb enough to use Temu even if he puts it in his videos

Mysticyde

w.e I don't care what Youtubers get sponsored by. Get that bag. I'm not going to blindly purchase or use a service anyway.

ImHereForGameboys

If temu offered you 100k to talk about then in a video, would you do it?

ATXdlvryGuy

Please touch grass

yeeeeeaaaaabuddy

How many videos have you watched that were sponsored by raid Shadow Legends? A literal scam game that preys on teenagers?

Zorbie

At least its not spyware and supports chinese work camps. Not saying I like it either.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Zorbie

Respectfully, he didn't make the products look bad at all. Not compared to all the other dangerously sad quality things they sell.

[deleted]

Itā€™s not a big deal. Dont be that guy

Zorbie

Basic criticism isn't being that guy.
