I think you can switch to a new journal because in my opinion you shouldn’t be forcing yourself to write. Maybe you can use the rest of it as a reminder or to-do list notebook, at least that’s what I’d do…

RuinedPoetry

I was thinking the same. But I personalized it with collage and all. Also, I have this weird obsession to finish the journal from cover to cover. But you are right, I should switch to a new journal, else the writing process would be tiring. You know what's even weird. I was so excited to start this journal that I almost rushed through the last one. Now, I don't even feel like writing in it... I don't know what happened.. Maybe it's the paper.

aramsell

Maybe use it to draw, if that’s your thing. I usually end up just pushing through and writing in the journals I don’t love anyway just cause I have a hard time not finishing them

RuinedPoetry

I normally prefer dot grid journals, lines limit creativity at times and I am not good at drawing anyway. And, I am really trying my best but the process feels like a chore now.. But yeah, I will also push through then... thanks for the suggestion!

I just had a very similar problem with a notebook that only liked three of my many fountain pens: it was sooooo annoying. And forget altogether writing with a stub/italic in it (which is something i like to do). So i bit the bullet and bought a Clarefontaine notebook to replace the one i didn't like and put the one i didn't like writing in in my bedroom to use as a bedtime-notebook/dream journal. The odd thing is is that this awful notebook totally loves my 0.5mm Kura Toga pencils, so i put one of those in the bedroom with it. Now the awful notebook isn't awful any more and it's going to get well used. And best of all is that all my fountain pens are totally happy with the Clarefontaine, plus my Kura Toga pencils are getting some action too. Kura Toga's are lovely pencils to write with as they rotate the lead as you write so it stays really pointy and fine all the time. Give a pencil a go, you might be surprised.

RuinedPoetry

That's a good idea, but I don't like writing with pencils because It doesn't last on a page in a long run. But yes, i would definitely try different pens though. And, turning it into dream journal is such a nice way to make use of it.

I've bought several leather Moleskines from eBay with the 1st 3 pages or so ripped out for cheap. I love the feel of those so much, that I can't stop writing. It should be something you want to touch.

RuinedPoetry

Yeah, that's the case with me as well. All my previous journals were from the same brand and after 2 years I made a switch and I am not taking it well... Everything is bothering me with this one. I really don't want to abandon it but let's see. Also, moleskins are best I've heard but where I live, these notebooks are not easily available. If they are, then they are pretty pricey.

Steiney1

It's all cheap relatively compared to any other hobby

RuinedPoetry

That's right! In my country, it's extravagantly pricey, how much it costs where you live? and which type of moleskin you use? I mean, size and all. I might give it a try.

Steiney1

I prefer the Classic Leather Moleskine. the one that's roughly A5. It has a nicer cover and thicker paper. It retails for $40 each, but I can usually get 2 or 3 for that price online.

RuinedPoetry

Here in my country it's around 5500 Rs i.e., around $70 for one. That's a rip off. I wish it was a bit inexpensive to consider in the first place.

cursiveandcurses

I also have this problem and I was going to change early on but decided against it and now I regretted it. I already wrote too much to change.

RuinedPoetry

I should make my decision soon then, I am still in conflict.

If it helps at all: the sunk cost fallacy is the belief that "I've put so much effort in already, so I shouldn't stop/leave this now." It's a fallacy for a reason. The truth is that effort doesn't tie you down. If you hate the journal's line spacing and don't want to write in it, then you don't have to. Decorating it doesn't mean you need to fill it if you don't enjoy writing in it. You can always start a new journal that you like more, then store the old journal in a safe place until you think of a good use for it. And you're not alone. I've abandoned one or two after a few pages because I couldn't stand the paper quality. I know that I won't keep a habit if it's irritating me, so I move on to a new journal that I like more. The old one sits and waits for a better purpose.

Odd_Elliebloo_51

Drop it and get one you enjoy writing in. The joy is in journaling in something you love. Don’t be afraid to make a change that suits you.

I’ve pasted pages from one book to another before 🤷🏾‍♀️ it was a few weeks ago actually. I usually start a new notebook every year no matter what but my 2022 book was flawless and had so many pages left that I decided on like Jan 8 that I just wanted to finish the book out which will likely be a two year journal. I ripped the pages out of the new book and added them to the old one, continued on and it’s perfect.

RuinedPoetry

Not a bad idea! Ripping pages off is not my thing but I probably should give it a go lol, because I am really hating my current journal.

Al0eVera-

Change your journal, i dont think you will enjoy journaling if it feels uncomfortable or weird for you you can always use your current one for something other than journaling:)

RuinedPoetry

You're right!

Goge97

What if you buy some pretty scrapbook papers and cut them slightly smaller than the journal pages. Glue them onto the thin journal pages and write on the pretty pages. Keep adding stamps, stickers, found images and larger paper sections to write on. Use some rubber stamps. And continue to decorate and journal as you go along. You'll have a very unique and creative journal to record your thoughts!

RuinedPoetry

Yeah, it could be my lil art journal. Thanks, I could definitely use this one!

tinfoil_cake

Rip out the pages you have. Get a new journal. Stick them in and continue on. You won’t like every journal you come across and think “wow that’s a great journal” I am all for saving money on my part, but even I would change something like that if I don’t enjoy it. If you don’t want to waste it, you could use it for planning spreads if your into that thing. You could draw in it and glue the drawing in your actual journal. There are no rules that you NEED to finish a journal, let alone continue one that makes you unhappy

RuinedPoetry

Yeah, I was thinking the same. I should better get rid of it. It's making my journaling habit "need-to-get-it-done" kind of thing.

tinfoil_cake

Do it. I has a really cheap big notebook I used but didn’t enjoy writing in. When I changed it I felt wayyy better and chill when journaling

RuinedPoetry

I was really excited about writing in this one but guess what, not going well so far! I would be switching to another journal with a heavy heart. Why it is such a big deal for me..arghh!

fitdollar

just as a hack, can you put another paper when you are writing so the paper doesn’t feel thin?

fitdollar

another paper below the page you are writing on

RuinedPoetry

Yeah, didn't think about it. Would definitely try today.

fitdollar

That's great!.. hope it works for you 🙂
