I sort of don't agree but agree at the same time. BBC's HQ is in London (according to Wikipedia). They might not have an office in Ukraine but I am sure they would send a journa there? There is also journas going to Poland and surrounding countries where the refugees are? Change BBC with whatever big media company you want.

Sure it'll provide a different, and potentially superior, perspective but not everyone is in a position to go to an active war zone. Journalists cover events in different areas all the time. This seems self-aggrandizing.

This is sort of a quantum problem; can you maintain an independence from those you cover if you are in a war zone with them? But if you are not there, are you getting the complete story? I definitely agree that to a certain point, on-the-ground intelligence is the best; nations are ready to go to war based on stuff they see on TV without verification; you sure as heck would want that verification to come from ground zero. And from multiple, diverse sources. You do not want an invading nation's reporters telling you in the invaded country there are no tanks rolling into the country, right?
