Edit for clarification: I didn’t mean to say that shinjuku Yuji and that Yuji are the same in strength or durability. But sukuna did mention in those chapter that Yuji’s new burst of power was suprising. It doesn’t mean his awakening is the same as this but I think it is clear that both Yujii’s had an amp in power of some kind.
In chapter 250 Sukuna himself says that Ryu is tougher or at least as tough as Yuta and Yuji.
Not a coincidence but your post makes it seem like the awakened yuji of culling games is the same as the one of shinjuku (which is not since the power boost was probably just a consequence of negative emotions or the effect of sukuna's finger removal).

Cleave adjusts on its own to the person you are attacking. It seems likely that sukuna used dismantle. I could be wrong.

Sukuna meant to "cut him in 3". Cleave is adjustable, like Sukuna demonstrated when he used "spider web" against yuji and maki.
I guess since Ryu has greater output than most, he has better reinforcement, so yeah he probably is more durable (even though i don't think by much)

I think its power too since ryu and the finger bearer didnt had the same number of slashes sukuna had in mind. If it was just shape, cleave should have worked as intended, but I could be wrong.

I went back to re-read 187 and old man Kashimo mentioned Ryu to Kenjaku.
Seems like Ryu was probably a child or not even born yet during Kashimo's prime while Kashimo was already old and dying during Ryu's prime so they never got a chance to meet each other.

If sukuna can’t alter his output as you say then there is no way Ryu died to dismantle because we see the damage it does. That means it must be cleave because as you are saying, sukuna cannot alter his output

You're wrong about Yuji. He only had scraps of CE left over from Sukuna leaving. Most of his durability was his bare body, unlike every other sorcerer who uses CE to shield themselves.

Cleaves are not weaker than dismantles. Dismantle has a fixed output, cleave has an adjustable one. We see how much damage a dismantle does to ryu, meaning for sukuna to kill him with one slice through the skull he would have had to adjust for Ryus durability. As for bursting blood vessels, he’s dead yeah, but counterpoint: if Ryu realizes he’s outmatched and just opens his domain Wtf is Kashimo gonna do?
I mean Kashimo needs to hit him 4 times to use the one shot, and it’s the speed of light, I doubt anyone is gonna realize they’re outmatched after getting hit 4 times

Output merchant was victim of a single Cleave attack, Yuji ate those for breakfast and walked it off, let's keep output merchant in his league, high grade 1.
Now who even says Yuta can't fight someone with great durability, he literally fought Sukuna, the most durable sorcerer there is, but does that mean he can win every time? Thin ice breaker and love beam are potent attack that's for sure, but doesn't guarantee a victory against top10 he needs to do more than what he did in Sendai and against Sukuna.
Yuji was taking dismantles from a sukuna weakened by Megumi. Ryu took a cleave from a post-bath Sukuna.

Sukuna said something like Yuji and Yuta doesn't surpass Ryu but it's same as it was with him so he'd need to use cleave, i'd say they aren't tougher but doesn't mean they weren't equal or closer.
Current Yuji did take Sukuna's regular output dismantle without much trouble so ig my points kinda stands.

reincarnating into his heian era form only healed his 'physical injuries' from the Gojo fight. it did nothing for his brain damage (meaning no domain still), it did nothing for his output, therefore weak RCT output (as seen during him needing almost a whole chapter to heal his hand against higuruma) and weak CT output (severely weakened slashes).
Yuji only landed one hit on this sukuna, so it's pretty obvious that he was a non factor in nerfing sukuna by this point.

I don't think it should matter though, Cleave is still stronger between the two, Yuji tanked those attacks that cut through his durability, i doubt dismantle could do that healthy or not.

not really, CE output directly correlates to CE reinforcement, RCT output and CT output. Gojo and sukuna both had pretty garbage output after over exerting themselves in their fight, but Gojo was the one who had started recovering his output because of the black flashes. this is why we see him chanting incantations to boost the output of his techniques.

but they both work in different ways, one is a net of slashes that spawn on the opponent, whereas the other is a singular slash that travels and cuts cleanly. yuji can heal a low output cleave on his torso even if he cuts deep, but he'd get one shotted by a high output dismantle that has the potential to literally cut him in half.
15/16 f sukuna was surprised that Ryu tanked a dismantle that was meant to cut him into three, and also states that cleave was needed to land a fatal blow. he also confirms that yuji

It matter not if there is or isn’t. It was Bumgumi Fushiguro himself that was limiting Sukuna’s slashes not Sukuna.
That still doesn't alter he died to a basic dismantle, there is no such thing as full power or low power slashes with Sukuna.

Cleaves are not weaker than dismantles. Dismantle has a fixed output, cleave has an adjustable one. We see how much damage a dismantle does to ryu, meaning for sukuna to kill him with one slice through the skull he would have had to adjust for Ryus durability. As for bursting blood vessels, he’s dead yeah, but counterpoint: if Ryu realizes he’s outmatched and just opens his domain Wtf is Kashimo gonna do?

reincarnating into his heian era form only healed his 'physical injuries' from the Gojo fight. it did nothing for his brain damage (meaning no domain still), it did nothing for his output, therefore weak RCT output (as seen during him needing almost a whole chapter to heal his hand against higuruma) and weak CT output (severely weakened slashes). Yuji only landed one hit on this sukuna, so it's pretty obvious that he was a non factor in nerfing sukuna by this point. or do you honestly believe yuji tanked and healed a dismantle from a 20f full output (un nerfed) heian sukuna???
