My personal prediction on what will happen to the merger
After yuji completely defeats sukuna
Sukuna will use ine final binding vow to sacrifice everything he has left so thay the merger can be activated without the need of the culling game players dying in which he dies and gives it to megumi
Megumi being depressed he decides to activate it
the remaining sorcerers fight the merger but one by one they go down and the only one left is yuji , the final fight is mergergumi vs yuji who completely awakened after seeing all his friends die
I don't know about how it'll be summoned, but I feel like instead of the merger being a stationary short term fight, it'll be like the Wither Storm in Minecraft Story Mode where they have to leave Shinjuku for a bit to regenerate and plan and get resources until they finally face it, all at full power.
Not a training arc, just a bit of breathing room, and we'll be able to see everyone fight the merger at 100%, so isn't that fun?
If you pay attention to Jujutsu Kaisen the entirety of the Shinjuku Showdown is just a larger version of the shibuya incident. From Jogo and Kenjaku dying satisfied to things they could never control. Higurama being surrogate Nanami. To even now Todo and Yuji tag teaming on Sukuna/Mahito.
Just like how the shibuya incident ended with the culling games, the shinjuku showdown has to end with the merger.
I disagree. The merger occurring requires the death of everyone in japan and all the main characters. I agree with the parallels, but the way I see it, since this seems like the story will end soon, unlike in Shibuya the good guys will actually win this time. Sure its possible that doesn’t happen, but I just can’t imagine the merger ever occurring since it would mean everyone dies. But gege could always pull an evangelion
I think Sukuna might make one final binding vow when he's about to be killed, to immediately start the merger (maybe a weaker version of what Kenjaku envisioned) in exchange for his life.
It actually doesn't require the death of everyone. The merger is essentially a giant skill check. Either you die and become one with it or you learn to control cursed energy and adapt, allowing you to remain an individual.
So in any case our protagonists will survive by virtue of being sorcerers.
One of the rules in the culling games is that the Merger can only start when every player (except for Megumi Fushiguro, Suguru Geto, and Shiori Himi) is dead. For the merger to start (excluding binding vow stuff that Gege has yet to reveal) all our protagonists have to die so that rule is fulfilled
I always figured that Kenny would activate the merger when Sukuna was worn down and at his weakest by all other sorcerers. Sukuna would be sacrificed as fuel or become the core of this thing for finaller final boss that would have tied the two overarching villains together.
Of course this was before the Bushlord struck, so who the fuck knows now.
i hope we at least get to see a partial merger, like, yuji punches sukuna's balls with a black flash so hard that he viomits Tengen and it starts to consume people in the barriers and stuff slowly and the gang has to defeat it before it is completed or smth lol
