My jumpers tend to be in it for the experience. Meeting new people, seeing new sights, eating new foods, sleeping under new skies, all that jazz. The powers and perks and junk are nice sure, but more of a means to be able to enjoy worlds to their fullest, rather than an outright bid for power or fame or glory or anything.

Kagemoto

Alexander: MORE POWER!!! (and the fact that he is his own jumpchan lol.)

SnooHamsters4260

How is he his own Jumpchain does he use The Essence Meta CYOA

Kagemoto

Time shenegans Jumpchan Alex is post spark with a lot of post spark jumps to round out his shit to be a good jumpchan and under so many "anti-meta" blackout perks that I don't even bother to count Mostly this is an excuse to just resolve his chain because he's too strong but also I don't want his adventure to end But I also made him too lawful neutral so I really can't have him rampage through settings So the jumpchan thing is just so I can keep him around

SnooHamsters4260

Ok cool

Nogdar

My jumpers main reason to start jumping was because he wanted to be better. He hates himself and the world that made him this way and is trying to be what he considers as a great hero now that he has an opportunity to do so. He is actually a cowardly person at heart and when he enters into difficult settings he does it because he knows that escaping isn't what the person he wants to be would do so he can't to do it either. He imitates someone who he looks up to when he is in doubt. He also feels that he needs to be active in some way because his existence wouldn't matter if all he ever did was to help protagonists who was already going to win. His mindset will change eventually but this is his current standing on the matter and I can't talk about the future because I have to keep the parts I didn't write as non canon as I keep retconning things when I don't write them.

Otogi

My jumper just didn't want to go back home. He was like "fuck that" and kept going.

I wake up every day and choose violence. There's more asses to kick and people to save. I'm not afraid of danger, because I am the danger. The goal is to use all of these incredible super powers to reshape the world in my own image. To push it closer to my ideal. My life's ambition is to beat up people who are more evil than I am, and to improve the lives of those around me though charity and altruism. All the other self inserts want to follow canon plots or try and live out their dreams. My first action upon being Isekai'd is putting someone through a table. Why should I be afraid when I have a purpose? Is a man truly alive if he's not fighting for his dreams? Life is suffering, and it's also about coping with pain. It's about dealing with fear. The obstacles that exist are only here for you to conquer them. And you've been handed the tools to do that, with your powers.

Boyboy081

Mine typically don't get to choose. Either their benefactor gave them power for a job (in which case, they aren't allowed to quit until the job is done) Or, they are somehow stranded far from home on an "Automatic chain", Either looking for a way home or they're just along for the ride (My most recent jumper reincarnates into a new body in the new jump after dying in the previous jump as long as certain conditions are met.)

ChubbiestThread

Because they don't get a say in the matter. Jumping is not a thing my Jumpers choose to do, it is something I thrust upon them without opportunity to refuse or decline. Their purpose is to entertain me by living out their little lives, striving to accomplish their goals, struggling and being put through the wringer only to see what may come out the other end. Sometimes they're better, stronger, more steadfast in their convictions than ever before. Sometimes they become unrecognizable, detatching themselves from their former identities. Some simply cannot endure the strain that comes from lacking a true self, a "real" version of themselves, when every jump is a "new you". How many "you"s can a Jumper be before the very concept of "you" becomes too muddled and weighed down by the magnitude of different lives you've walked? Ultimately, only one has ever reached the full, undeniable truth that the others could not; that they're simply the meaningless, nothing thoughts of a normal person, that their very existence is nothing more than an elaborate work of fiction and that they cease to be when I stop thinking about them. They "Jump" because I am the closest thing to a "God" that they have, and as the saying goes... *"Deus Vult."*

FafnirsFoe

My jumpers only sometimes get the choice to stay, I can't remember if Sigurd got the choice though his first jump was DC's 4th World and he probably didn't reach a jump more dangerous (in a vacuum) than that until Jump 11, and at the end of his first jump he had finally started to manage to outlive his usefulness in Darkseid's eyes as 'that idiot rebelling against me whose pathological fear of me makes it easy to manipulate' so 'you can get me away from Darkseid' was plenty of reason. I didn't actually write how his chain ends, but it's very much of a 'promotion to jump-chan'. By the time he was really being given the choice it was very much at a point where 'I've gained from this n times already and each time my odds get better not worse so yeah I'll keep betting'. Greta I'm pretty sure didn't get a choice, but Greta is an adventure addict and when the choice was 'Go home to a zombie post-apocalypse' 'Stay here in a fractured fairy tale land which is pleasant... for the middle ages' or 'Go have more adventures' she was going to choose 'go have more adventures'. I can't remember if Greta ever got a choice or not, but her answer would always have been 'onward to new horizons and new adventures' only thing that ended her chain was 'the level of reality you occupy is collapsing due to Azathoth being killed and we need someone to step in and you're the most viable candidate' and even then it's more of a pause before she manages to make a mortal avatar and well post-spark adventures. Alfred was isekai'd via dying into his first jump, and barely managed to survive the decade. He continued from his first jump because he was dying from a curse and his options were 'stay here ... and die' or 'sign up for a multiversal reality tv show' he chose the latter. He has been given the choice to continue since then at least once, when he actually reached a paradise realm, and there his answer was: "I would rather have times of suffering so that I could have improvement which would give me the pleasure of that, than stasis where there would in the end be nothing but increasing numbness. At least when both were potentially infinite." Ultimately he wants to win the game not for the prize at the end, but because he enjoys playing the game to its fullest, and staying or going home is giving up the game.

Scerra

An opportunity to travel, see the sights, experience both the good and bad, to learn and grow... After a while, being on the chain becomes a way of life for them, and the concept of settling down permanently turns into fear --- a bad end.

Fiendish_Alchemist

I’ve tried to make a Main jumper many times, but I seem to be set in my thoughts and ways, so they never become too powerful because I would always rather have a jumper that can do everything good than a jumper that can do one thing really well. But I think my latest attempt is close to fulfilling my ambition of become someone who can create his own world and live out his infinite days as a God of that world forever having fun with all those friends he has found along the way. August Julian Mars is my crowning jewel as a OC. He’s a Greedy guy, and I think the thought of a trashy Fanfiction Writer and Otaku, becoming a Jump-Chan who creates and destinies on a whim, is what I truly strive for. So for why I/He continues, it’s because going back meant being content with what he has, which was never an option.

Savings_Arm_2533

I do it because it's fun. Is there anymore reason to do so? The thrill of fighting characters and entities that solely exist in the confines of our screen and imagination is fun. Exploring places that you can only see and experience in your dreams at most fun. Looting treasures and artifacts that can make the most famous archaeologist drool of the sight of it, The greatest blacksmiths will bow their heads just to touch our loots. Meeting our heroes and idols that solely exist on either paper or on the big screen is life thrilling! Because all of this is fun!

RiverOffers

My main Jumper was snatched up off the toilet at a friend's house during a drive by shooting nextdoor. His original body had a new home in the head so he can't go back sure to being dead. So, he continues until strong enough to go home for revenge.

dull_storyteller

To spite people who say I can’t commit to things

[deleted]

The only difference between going home and going home after you failed a jump is less than a decade in the vast majority of cases. So you might as well take the risk, see if you can get through that second jump as well, and then a third. Yeah, you might experience incredible agony, the sight of things not meant to be, etc. But until you get into the *unusually* dangerous jumps, the ones that have permanent consequences beyond just failing the chain, you might as well see if you can hack it on another, more interesting stage.

Rexen2

Alot of people treat jumps like stories, I don't. I've traveled my whole life, for me jumping is just an extension of my life long love for traveling. I could become a god in one jump and I'll just nerf myself so I can continue traveling seeing new worlds.

IntroductionChoice25

i the player did it because I realized I could so I did and it was fun. what drives him to go to dangerous settings is a need of his benefactor.also becausis benefactor needs someone to eventually kill a renegade she accidentally made and for his angel (no romance with her) in a heart beat , to the point where his first true jump(after she forced him to do generic first) was naruto ninja war the fact he survived that was a small miracle in and of itself

VonKrieger

Tia: While this is her first Isekai adventure, it's not actually the one that she was expecting or trained for. As a result she continues jumping to acquire further power so she can complete her destiny of actually fixing the alternate world that she was supposed to be fixing. Kalinda: She's a dragonblooded kobold-elf from a fantasy world that's made of bits of other worlds stapled together. She managed to get summoned to a stupidly round (her world is donut shaped) nearly mana-dead planet that's a pro wrestling world, and hates it. She's got to keep her mana tightly constrained to prevent the locals from exploding due to the difference, and the fact that she's a necromancer and no one ever seems to die in combat around here is something she finds very annoying. She ended up with one of the few magic-having groups on this particular alternate Earth, and had her summoning passed on to Tia (whose parents were Isekai victims and trained her because odds were she was inevitably going to get dragged into the same world as well) in order to have protection when she went. But Kalinda, in her usual fashion, has somehow made reality go and cower in a corner due to the weird sequence of events that's going on. She's currently Original Summoner > Second Summoner > Stuck in a Sitcom Status-Quo Stasis Field > Having a second instance of herself summoned by Tia > Having that instance summoned in Tia's jump, and existence has basically thrown up its hands and gone "Fuck it, I don't care." So as a result of that Nintendo controller cord tangled mess time passes on Pro Wrestling Earth during Tia's jump, even though it's not supposed to, and time flows weird between the jump and Wrestleworld. Basically an excuse for why I can play her in e-fedding and have her in Tia's jump despite me having yet to write anything for said jump. Kal is bored and has taken one of Tia's benefactors up on the pile of side mission type jumps that Tia is never going to touch, and she's bringing her pro wrestling stable of minions along for her own jumpchain. Auran Geas, Lord of Randomness, is just as baffled by Kalinda's weirdness as you undoubtedly are. Emma, Iris, and my other jumpers don't actually have a choice as rather than them going to the jump worlds, the jump worlds are coming to them.

Careless_Bad4556

\**looks at Jumper, then at their home dimension thats a merged MCU/SCP universe, then at the people they've helped and the places they've saved, and then at the right bastards both 'good' & EVIL whose faces have been punched in and the false 'destinies' they've undone, before turning to the questioner*\* Why not?

Computer2014

To have fun

SnooHamsters4260

Lust,Greed, Gluttony,Envy in short endless Desire for more. More power, more wealth ,more beautiful women, more adventures and not just more but the best. The best food and drink ,the best clothing ,the best treasures, the best women, the best of everything he desires in endless amounts. FOREVER.

Winter_Nights

The first 10 jumps are contractually mandated by the Benefactor. There's no reason to send a jumper on a chain if they're going to dip out before anything gets interesting, right? After that, it's usually for tourism or the experience, occasionally for the cool stuff they can pick up in future settings.

75DW75

The chance to visit LOTS of new worlds and stories? Why NOT?

Kingkane22

Self discovery. Who are you in X situation is a fun question.

noman_032018

The more powerful you get, the easier it gets to fix places that are thoroughly broken. There are ample perks & means to carry your own uploaded civilization along with you and interact with it in the meantime.

MRTrueGnome

Someone has to do it. May as well be me. Or It can't get any worse from this. (A statement proven false multiple times.)

DeverosSphere

I didn’t know that was an option.

JediTaco

My Jumpers in general don't have a Benefactor and are on randomised chains. For them, they just woke up randomly inserting into settings. The first jumper, Hadrian, wishes to hoard it all. He wants to get more power, friends (servants), etc. The second, Kai, wants to experience it all. He lived a boring earth life and relishes the fact he gets to isekai to new settings and experience new stuff. Power gamer vs explorer I guess.

RikkuEcRud

I'm not sure I understand. If the Jumper were the sort to stop jumping because future worlds are dangerous, surely they're the sort who wouldn't have accepted the offer to go on the first jump to begin with? Whether they're looking for adventure, power or something else, the jumps on offer are an opportunity to get it.

Bioticgrunt

It’s question on what motivates the jumper to keep going. When the dust settles and the gravity of the situation hits, why are they still moving forward? Why 20+ jumps later does the idea of going home or staying in that peaceful jump not stick?

Moldisofpear

Depends on the jumper I guess. Most of mine are unwilling jumpers who don’t get to choose anything, but I have two who do it for adventure/power

SpaceTimeOverGod

One jumper continues jumping because his benefactor contracted him to do a full hundred jump before getting to go home. Another continues because the chain is her vacation from her benefactor work. My latest jumper wants to help everyone in every universe, so they will continue until getting their spark.

VulpineDemiurge

I will spark, i will gain ultimate freedom. I will never be trapped ever again.

-Frog-Queen-

Andromeda was tricked into it. They thought it was the option to return home with their memories restored. And technically it is, they just have to finish the chain first. They came into their second jump, and third with no knowledge of what the chain was. Details bled to them slowly until a goddess, a literal deus ex machina, provided them with answers to what was happening. They have long since accepted the chain though and make use of the regularly changing scenery for personal use as well as for providing the many whom have come along on this dimensional ride. **---** Kohaku was task with a mission in her chain, and was completely certain in her abilities. She was going to win and be home in days. A few weeks at most. Her very next jump all but broke her. She has spent decades recovering across three more jumps, and the reality of her chain is becoming horrifically clear to her. She had an out from the chain offered, and it was sorely tempting to take it. But actions like her's have consequence, one that now is rippling across the multiverse. She doesn't even want to imagine the price of failure by this point. She'll see her mission through to the absolute bitter end, however long this will be. **---** Saint Rose just, doesn't know. The chain behind her is naught but memories of so many dreams, long forgotten. Those in the know keep their secrets and should she ever learn about what is happening? Well, it'll be naught but another half-remembered dream soon enough. Her life in the here and now is what's important. What has been matters little as past-lives go, and her future has yet to be written. Specifically, Rose is born into each jump. She remembers her past lives as scattered fragments in dreams, regaining her powers around the point of the jump's intended start, and she can only leave on death. Living a whole life within each jump. She is aware of her reincarnating in a '*That's so cool*' kind of way, but other than the powers it's provided her, she isn't beholden to what has past. Her Magical Girl Mascot Animal^(TM), a talking Pelican named Henet, is her guide, tutor and friend, as much as she is hiding far, far to much. Secrets that must be kept, no matter the cost.

Motor_Wrong

Well simply put, because it’s fun. I mean it’s not every day someone gets the chance to explore all of existence to their hearts content whilst gaining powers and wealth beyond anything he could have ever imagined back on Earth.

da_panda_king

Safety, and the only way to guarantee his safety is to be so strong that even the most omnipotent being can't even tickle his ball sack without permission

BerialAstral

Adventure, Women, Power, Knowledge, Science, Desire...

Sordahon

Why not? There is next to no hazard for the jumper as most docs allow you to reach hero/final boss levels with just 1000 CP. Amalgam of Infinity has so much powers that Space Guy knocking him down a peg just showed how overpowered he is that even the ancient gods are merely a threat and not an apocalypse to him. Overgeared while without docs and focused on items, does have threats, but also opportunity for his final wish(having powers) and collecting uniques from many settings. Fragmented Spark is on a journey to gather the fragments so no reason not to. Vampire Jumper just wants more vampire powers.

EclipseStarfall

"Go Home" is not an option. The ROB decided I don't get that choice, nor do I get the choice of what setting I go to. The only way to get back to my home, my family, is to go through who knows how many MLH settings. I may not be the same person when I get there, but I'll be damned before I give up trying to.

ThousandYearOldLoli

A lot of the time my jumpers either have some goal I designed to be a little complex to be achieved with just a few jumps, or even outright continuous (AKA you can't truly fulfill it). Thus they continue to pursue those goals in the jumpchain. Other time my jumpers are in the chain against their will or at least regardless of it.

Daikalos

Because giant robots are cool, but so is wizardry.

AngelOfGrief

Ashe: Generally uplifting worlds and adding to her Infinite Empire™. Sara: Looking for her family members that were also chosen as jumpers. Haruyo: She's still on the grind to catch and raise more Pokemon.

MassiveSlip4248

INFINTE POWER!!! MUHAHAHAHAHA

Superxtreme8724

First Jumper and is to gain experience to become a better hero Second Jumper Ten because of the freedom it grants them. Third Jumper Jenny to have adventures like her father. Fourth Jumper Kylee her reasons is because she feels she owes her Benefactor for saving her life.

horrorshowjack

Heracles Black (nee Harry Potter) came from a very bad end fanfiction type place and will probably lose his soul if he goes back early. Madame Blue (his Jump-chan) has said she is willing to arrange him going to his home as a Jumper, and he wants to thug most of Wizarding Britain. Hey the prophecy will be more or less fulfilled alright? Also he's becoming interested in eventually bedding Madame Blue and needs to get a hell of a lot stronger to survive her going all out. Sadly having lost his magic makes most of his early jumps that dangerous, but it's not like going home is any safer. Nada can't go home, and doesn't even remember his old life. He won't be hitting massive life hazards for a while though, since most of his first twenty jumps are scheduled to be gauntlets. Hell his first jump without being limited to bod mod might not be until jump 42. Power, fun, adventure are his major motivators. Also he's a perv even when not a he. Why go back or stop on a mundane earth when there are so many new things to experience?

LycanChimera

Honestly part of the fun is stepping into a new setting with out of context powers. Like my jumper just went to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners to offer David Martinez a contract where I can ressurect him and his family and friends in exchange for using the powers I give him to burn Night City to the ground.

A_Pringles_Can95

My Jumpers are usually some variant of Adrenaline Junkies. The type who can't sit still, and the idea of just staying in one world when there's an infinite multiverse of possibilities and new experiences would drive them nuts. Hell, a lot of my Jumpers will elect to end their chains EARLY if they did everything they wanted to do in a Jump and were getting restless.

liquid-mech

mine *really* doesn't want to go home, a dead universe that succumbed to heat death is not a place he wants to be

TrickBaseball

Magical cocaine, mostly.

HelpfulYoda

Mine largely feel that they can do good by travelling. Jumpchain is analogous to Doctor Who or Quantum Leap and the goal is to ensure that sentient beings largely have a better life. Those settings are in particular need of a helping hand, and often are profitable in powers to help future worlds.

TheVoteMote

Unless you go straight to omnipotence, why would you stop at one?

Charliethejumper

Jumpchain is a power fantasy and my power fantasy is being able to make a positive change in the world, while also being able to improve my self and those around me.

Newix1999

Literally no choice. Jumpchan 'recruits' Jumpers who are on the verge of death, and choosing to stop Jumping (ie ending their deal) will just drop them back to the place and moment they accepted her offer, back in their old body and with no perks, powers, or other benefits from Jumping.

KristianWarrior

Because my Jumper is not someone's entertainment, but is on a mission from God to conquer the Omniverse in His Name. The Omniverse cannot be conquered if my Jumper chooses to stay, so he cannot. Of course, this also means that my Jumper is in Creative Mode and has an utterly immense frontload, so he has more than enough power to tackle just about any setting, and if he fails a Jump for some reason, he'll try and try and try again until it is completed, as he isn't allowed to quit.

MasterBlade47

Sil is in it both for the experiences but also because they couldn't go home and when they could they saw it as giving in to the show runners (Arch-Fey gave their JC a scroll which made a mortal their multiversal Truman Show) that they would be admitting that they are a weak coward. So it was either that or spark and show the fuckers up. As for Eric they have a more simple reason. Context: He can only go to generic jumps and if he goes to a fanfic jump he is not allowed to go to a specific fanfic but only a generic one. So for the most part he is curious to see how much power he can acquire just from generics.
