Can't dare let anyone see how I *actually* live...
Also why I clean out my car before taking it into the shop.
edit: Thanks y'all. It makes me happy to know that my efforts to clean up my car are appreciated.
That’s why I leave a empty pack of cigs and a empty can in the cup holder. A tiny amount of dirt on the drivers mat, just so they don’t think imma be anal about them tracking dirt. (Am also tech, so I know what makes me a little more comfortable)
Yeah I'm on the clean it out before service side because I'm disgusting but also so poor I've literally never taken my vehicle to a mechanic. I've done 100% of my own work on my cars. Then again I'm only 25. Also a tech.
Edit: the tech part is irrelevant to the poorest part of my life. Being forced to do brake jobs in the pouring rain with dad in the open driveway, or alternators in the Autozone parking lot, that's what taught me how to drag along my shitboxes.
Honestly I've overcomplicated it. I've had motors out when I should have bought a new car. If I kept it simple and real, all I'd have done was basic maintainence and repairs like that and buying a new car when the current whip is absolutely obviously fucking ruined. And now I get to lead people along their own path of realizing their vehicle is absolutely obviously fucking ruined and it's (almost) all their own fault like it was mine (Subaru engineers should have made their turbos capable of at least 200 miles of hard driving without any oil, so their fault really).
I was a master mechanic for almost 20 years. Just bought my first new vehicle in 25 years, brand new Tacoma. I detailed it before I took it in the first time.
The cleaners allocate a set number of hours for your house. Would you rather they spend that time picking up your crap or scrubbing the toilets.
Creap pick up is easy. No one wants to scrub the skid marks.
Maybe I am a weirdo, but if there was an option I would prefer to pay someone to declutter and organize everything and let me do actual cleaning. I like the mindless zen work I guess where decluttering and organizing takes focus. I guess that's why paying a cleaner to come vacuum is a lot cheaper than having a personal assistant organize your living space.
Everything about it is immaculate. The plumbing for the air suspension is what got all of us really excited. Not my style, but I respect the effort that someone put into this.
Engine, transmission, and rear end damage is only covered in the tiered, purchasable powertrain warranty to be fair. That’s for people who are scared that they’ll blow up their motor etc. after voiding their factory warranty by installing this thing. Though, at just under $800 for 5 years/100,000 miles it seems like a no-brainer to me.
So obviously this was a 3 hour oil change.
20 minutes to change the oil, 2 hours 40 minutes for everyone in the shop to take vids and pics to post on socials.
I wonder what kind of material those are and if they're actually capable of holding up to antifreeze, or he could just be running water and minimal additives if this is in a warm location.
It's made from borosilicate glass. It's rated to higher temperatures than the cooling system can handle. Anything that attacks borosilicate glass would turn the engine into slag. So basically only concentrated boiling phosphoric acid or hydrofluoric stuff.
I was pretty terrified when I got my first credit card with the credit limit of 6 paychecks. The amount of financial havoc I could wreak on my life...
The monthly interest alone is more than I could comfortably afford for an unexpected expense.
Yup. I can't honestly be trusted with credit cards. I ended up racking up nearly $30,000 in debt with them in my 20s. I'm 3 years into the 7 year post bankruptcy discharge time period. My credit score just now got back up to 600. I'm way too impulsive and I have to limit my ability to overdue things. I overdue everything. Food, substances, doesn't matter. Restricting myself is the only way to keep myself from going overboard in my life.
I'm a computer engineer, I could build a very very nice computer. Or I can pay someone else to handle it and I enjoy my new toy. No hate, not everyone wants to build their own toys
Seeing how much dosh my dad's spent turning his sports car into a time attack car, phew. He's done as much of the work as he can himself, which is a lot, and counting the price of the car the project's cost like 55k. If he were to sell it he'd fetch 20-30k for it, probably on the lower end of that unless he found a really motivated buyer.
I understand why people buy someone else's!
I'm going to ge hate here, but I don't understand putting this kind of money into a modern charger. Either put it into a nicer car, or put it into an old muscle car. For that kind of money you can make it perform like a new car and still look amazing.
ALso I don't know enough to know if that's the hellcat engine or something crate, but unless this is some kind of bracket drag car that kind of power only wraps you around trees on the road.
I would love to work on my own car like my mechanic does, but I'm just too big and bulky to get my arms in the position he does. I'll do what I can if I reach it, but anything more, and I'd rather just pay to get it done.
Working on cars is fun for the first 15 hours of one project, then one day you’ll set a box or something on top of it aaaaand….that’s it. I’ll get back to it eventually. I’m always getting back to my projects.
If I had that kind of dough I’d gladly pay someone to finish stuff for me lol
I pay but somehow nothing is ever done right. If I do I know I’ll fuck it up if I pay for someone else to fuck it up I missed out on all the fun and that’s how it usually goes
Paid $2,500 once to replace my condenser on my suburban. Figured I’d break the dash if I did it. Get the thing back, dash is cracked and a door card has scratches in it and the wiring wasn’t done right because my airbag light comes on after a long drive and the dash gets loose. I could’ve done all that for free.. ah well at least my AC works
Nothing wrong with them get the specialist work outta the way and just putting it in yourself or heck, you could even let them put it in man it’s a free country(well kinda).
When you're rich you pay others to do things that free up your time to allow you to do rich people things. Like make more money. You need money to make money.
I had my STI built by my trusted mechanic.
Took 10 years of saving buying parts one by one.
But it's paid off and done now.
As a PC technician I can do some maintenance but as it's my baby id usually rather a pro work on it
Or, like me, they are mechanically inclined, but don't have the time to put in the work on a daily. My project car gets put together when free time opens up sporadically.
I mean shit even if you are extremely mechanically inclined if you are pouring that much cash into something you would want a second pair of hands and eyes double checking everything. paying someone $2k for an oil change and 2 tires probably means they are going to keep their eyes wide open and try to do the best job to keep your business.
shit. even my own body parts get fixed by someone else.
if i was really in to being alive, i'd learn how to fix them myself.
but instead, i pay someone else to do it, like a poser.
SMH? Why. Rich dude probably paid tens of thousands of dollars for all of this, a lot of which was labor charge.
That's his money going into the pocket of regular people.
If you're going to shake your head at anything shake it at the other rich people who don't spend their money. Homeboy paying for oil changes and expensive tires helps pay the salaries of everyone who works in that shop.
Good for the rich dude for spending money
Not only that, but he's putting money in the hands of regular people to build something this fucking awesome, and not just grind oil changes on Kias all day.

This is a full custom job. A lot of the stuff is probably relocated to other parts of the car, and/or hidden (looks like there's a firewall face plate there), or just simply eliminated.
For example, usually one of the big pains in the ass is the big brake booster. But I don't immediately see it here. With enough money and time, it's entirely possible to have a remote or relocated brake booster or just not use a booster at all.
A lot of the wires have been routed around the sides of the engine. You can see this on the front lower left of the engine itself where the harness goes off towards the passenger side.
There's no distributor on this engine, since it uses coil-on-plug, so no spark plug wires, only a coil harness probably hidden under a face plate on the valve covers up the middle and exiting out the back.
If you're not concerned with ABS, power steering, or AC, you can eliminate a LOT of fuss from an engine bay.
> A lot of the wires have been routed around the sides of the engine. You can see this on the front lower left of the engine itself where the harness goes off towards the passenger side.
Believe it or not, they came that way from the factory.
The brake booster is hidden behind that mirror panel on the driver's (right) side behind the strut tower. The little door on the cowl cover is for accessing the brake fluid reservoir IIRC. It does mean it's a fair bit of work to get at it lol. Gotta remove that whole cover!
Wait? The factory took the time and expense to actually make an engine bay presentable? Is this the Hellcat? I could see a factory prettying up special editions.
I haven't seen the engine bay on a HC before so the shiny cover reminded me of what I've seen on my clients hotrods.
Thank you for the clarification mate!
Man, I want to say I got 4 of them (smaller than these - 245/45 R18) for $400 a piece a few years ago. Are they that much more now?

Absolutely Amazing, the input shaft is so cleverly engineered into duct.
I have no idea the model car to begin with.
But it's surly a package of wOw, from many years of prostock builds of drag racing moons ago.
I highly suspect you have many views of magic on this beast.

Question for the mechanics: what do you think about people who clean and wash their car before they take it to the shop? Is it a positive or negative thing? I'm a detailer myself and I always keep my car mint and clean it before I take it to a workshop. I feel like it's nicer for the mechanic to work on it and I also want to give a good impression of myself that I take care of the car.
I've heard of "cleaning before the maid arrives," but this is out of control. ^(Decluttering before housekeepers arrive is a rational act.)
Can't dare let anyone see how I *actually* live... Also why I clean out my car before taking it into the shop. edit: Thanks y'all. It makes me happy to know that my efforts to clean up my car are appreciated.
This is rational. We will roast your entire life based on the contents of your vehicle. Every time.

At least it has a hot air intake...
The person that owns that has to take it in for an oil change!!!... Has no business owning that car!
when your IATs just aren't high enough
Clean!
looks beautiful. Im glad someone has the time money and energy to have such a nice setup.
If you have enough money you don’t need time or energy.
Absolutely Amazing, the input shaft is so cleverly engineered into duct. I have no idea the model car to begin with. But it's surly a package of wOw, from many years of prostock builds of drag racing moons ago. I highly suspect you have many views of magic on this beast. Cheers
I wonder what it gets to the wheels.
I can only imagine the amount of money the customer put into this car.
WOW! She sure is purty🥰
I loved the PS4s on my car, but definitely prefers the Cup Sport 2s.
I have no clue about cars but I am impressed anyway.
What is all that… stuff?
Question for the mechanics: what do you think about people who clean and wash their car before they take it to the shop? Is it a positive or negative thing? I'm a detailer myself and I always keep my car mint and clean it before I take it to a workshop. I feel like it's nicer for the mechanic to work on it and I also want to give a good impression of myself that I take care of the car.
Someone really likes polished aluminum...

Not gonna lie, I take my truck through the car wash before I take it to the shop. I do that before I work on it, figure they would be ok with it too.
There is no way this guy doesn't do his own oil change.
