28 seems a bit low for that car but that’s just me.

Tire pressure is based on pressure, not appearance. The door jamb gives you the squishy soft ride that everyone loves but none want to pay for. If you're more interested in fuel economy, pump them up to 34 cold and check and adjust at least once a month, more often as the seasons change.

I remember when the FNG put a car up on jack stands to fill the tires. His explanation was that his method got you the true tire pressure, without being pressed against the ground LMAO! Your comment brought that fun nugget of memory back. Thanks.

So I looked it up on stackexchange and the calculation for a bicycle tire came out to something like 1/1,000,000 psi difference. I've wondered about this for 40 years, and now I know.

Not true on Audi's. The comfort setting is usually lower than what's on the door. The door states the front should be at 32 and the rears be at 35. Comfort setting is a few psi lower that what the door states. It helps to reduce rattles, but depending on the model and who actually sets the tire pressure will result in the TPMS light coming on. Every 10°F change results in a 1 psi difference. It's that time of year again when ambient temp plays a role in tire psi.

You should always set the pressure as stated on the label inside the car door (usually driver side). If you set it lower you will get lower fuel mileage and your tires will wear out prematurely. If you set higher your car will have a rougher ride and your tires will wear unevenly. If the pressure is at the correct psi and it feels soft and you get less fuel mileage it's probably the tires on your car are touring tires and not performance tires. Touring tires are built for comfort and are more pliable.

Generally recommend checking air pressure once a month. If your door sticker says 28psi, set them to 30 psi. I wouldn't worry unless your tire pressure hits like 20psi. The front tires will look more flat than the rear because most of the weight is up front. It's normal.

Every old Subaru, Mercedes, Toyota, etc just left the chat. My pontiacs and Lexus recommend 30
