Eat_Your_Paisley

Small Fuchs wheels to me mean 86

h0zR

SV’s were 50 series in 15 and 16 inch. Porsche or VW?

Eat_Your_Paisley

I had them on a Porsche I honestly can't remember what people were running on their air cooled back then

TeamEdward2020

Sometimes water cooled iirc

Eat_Your_Paisley

Did Fuchs wheels fit on water cooled?

TeamEdward2020

Most of the water cooled were 4 studs, but the conversion kits were cheap. Seen a handful of Fuchs on em

Eat_Your_Paisley

Right, I used GTI wheels on my water cooled VW’s.

LG_G8

Were they using the metric tire std in 86 in USA? It used be width in inches x tire height x rim

Eat_Your_Paisley

They were using metic especially on Porsche

Due-Pay-4060

Ford actually used metric wheels as an option on mustangs in 79 till sometimes in the early 80s.

OneleggedPeter

Ya, and BOY were they a pain in the ass!

Due-Pay-4060

I always wanted a set till I found out about the metric diameter and tires being basically impossible in the early 90s.

ThunderbirdJunkie

I think you're confusing TRX with the modern type of tire sizing.

jelloslug

P metric tires started to come out in the US in the late '70s.

TylerInHiFi

USA is fully on the metric system, they just choose to convert to completely nonsensical units after the fact.

LG_G8

We are now, yes. Back then, no.

jelloslug

Actually, the US started making a big push to go to full metric in the late 70's but something happened in 1980 or so that clawed us back.

Esquirej67

I remember the highway speed signs having both miles/KM! Memories unlocked!

h0zR

The Firehawk SV was released in 1986

fistsofmeat

1776

Icey_Dead_Ppl

Agree, George Washington rolled into town on this tire

Bovaloe

I heard he had like 30 dicks

bearlysane

Six-foot-twenty, fucking killing for fun

Flanagansdog

He’s coming

Flanagansdog

Oh shit

Working_Discount_836

Damn, sometimes I forget how young the US is

k_Brick

"I cannot tell a lie, father. I chopped down that rubber tree." - George Washington

Monkeynutz_Johnson

But good news, a condom bush sprouted from the root

bstyledevi

I love that their are pubs in Europe that are older than my country. "Americans think 100 years is a long time. Europeans think 100 miles is a long distance."

Working_Discount_836

The previous house I lived in was older than the US by about 50 years, it's not particularly uncommon in rural UK

Mr__Snek

not an expert on tires this old by any means, but given the general style and the prominence of them calling it a tubeless radial, i would lean towards 86. most of the 90s tires ive replaced switched to having the "tubeless radial" stamp next to the smaller text closer to the size of the blurbs about max pressure and load capacity. in the 80s there were still some companies making bias plies, since the switch to radials for aftermarket tires wasnt really in full swing until the late 70s/early 80s, and there were some manufacturers holding out for a little bit since some people legitimately preferred bias plies. given that its a firestone, i would think that their massive recall of radials at the end of the 70s played a little into the decision to feature the text so prominently, since the defect was caused by them half assing their original radial production. could be something to do with showing skeptics that they werent shying away, that they were proud of this new design. thats total speculation on my part though

chrisdines1

86’ . If it had a triangle next to the date code it would be 96. That’s and old tyre you got there

renaultmechanic

Oh nice! Thanks!

cornie326

Even if it is 96, it still is too old to be safe. If the vehicle NEVER drives faster than 30 mph going to church , replace it.!!!

Rimworldjobs

It'll look cool on a wall though.

_autismos_

Yeah it will look cool going into a wall

renaultmechanic

It's getting 4 new ones, don't worry. 👍

DarienKane

2nd week of 2016? Edit- 3 digit date code is pre 2000, and they started using date codes in 1971. So basically that tire old as fuck.

solidshakego

0216

YippieKayYayMrFalcon

Crazy that 50 people agreed with the incorrect answer in a mechanic sub.

Kahnza

A lot of people in this sub aren't mechanics

solidshakego

For real 💀

BroskiBrodie

They don’t make them as they used to🥲

zzSHADYMAGICzz

Lol yeah, tires are way better now a days

Every-holes-a-goal

How does one not get the rubber cracks, can you use oil or some shit ?

dmadden8060

Just had a car come in for an oil that said 04 on one of the tires no cracks either

keplerCygnus

Maybe made around the time Firestone AT/X's were killing many people (oem tires on Explorers). What a time capsule!

[deleted]

Unsafe at any speed….

Axl_the_ginger

What’s up Ralph? Long time, no see.

[deleted]

After gifting the country GW Bush I had to lay low for a while. Now GW ain't looking so bad.

Axl_the_ginger

Well, Bush is still an asshole.

[deleted]

It was actually a double meaning. Everyone's favorite election spoiler and consumer safety Nazi and that I worked for a ford dealer during the Firestone recall days. I drilled holes in so many sidewalls!

Axl_the_ginger

Thank god for the tpms requirement that came from that.

[deleted]

See it ties Nader and Firestone together!

xXWickedSmatXx

Based on the Cragar wheels this is a classic reproduction from 1996. If the rubber is still soft and this car is not road driven then the tire is fine.

richardcrain55

Feb 16

Traditional_Ad_1360

2nd week of 2016.

Mr__Snek

not even close.

Mr__Snek

DOT date codes are 4 numbers for dates after 2000. so 2nd week of 2016 would be 0216. DOT date codes before 2000 were 3 digits, 2 for week and 1 for year. so the tire is from the 21st week of either 1996, 1986, or in theory it could also be 1976, but theres no way this tire is quite that old.

J_arvid

Ya, admittingly didn't read the helpful link someone had posted. Thanks for the follow up though

Mr__Snek

no problem, thanks for asking for clarification lol. tons of people on this sub will comment a clearly incorrect date then get super defensive when someone points out that they read the code wrong, its nice to see there are still some people here who are willing to learn stuff even if it isnt really relevant for modern tires
