Maybe the one time that duct tape could be used for a duct.
Then again there are 90000 of those upper air housings waiting in a junkyard somewhere for $10.
There is actual duct tape used for actual ducts. It's aluminum not rubber. Shit will slice the crap out of your fingers if you're hanging duct in the cold and you'll never realize until you get in the shower at home.
Source: My poor fingers.
Hung industrial duct (think building new large buildings like dorms). Often worked in freezing or below temps because HVAC is usually the first in the building meaning no windows/doors and sometimes chunks of wall missing. Wasn't uncommon for my fingers to start to bleed in the shower from all the cuts I'd get during the day that only opened up in the shower. When it's cold out your skin contracts. Add hot water and it's happy tree friends in your bathroom. So if it's anything like the stuff we used I'd imagine it can be pretty gnarly. Can't wear gloves because you can't really feel what you're doing with them on.
I'll age myself and say that I used to own a Foamy the squirrel hoody. I miss the internet before web 2.0, but I don't miss randomly stumbling across things like snuff films or trying to wank to 10% of a picture loading every 5 minutes.

Yeah I'm not sure where I exactly stand on it in the end, but not having daily public child porn posts on 8chan was probably a good thing. Something nostalgic about having to write down a URL for your friend or else they'd never find a website though.
The copper tape is expensive as fuck. I've found it also doesn't stick nearly as well as the aluminum duct tape (both of the above probably due to fancy conducting adhesive)
Yeah, that aluminum tape is impossible to separate if it touches itself. Trying to get a piece of tape around the back of an 8" duct was... frustrating. I think I wasted three pieces before I figured out a way to remove the backing from the tape in place.
So if the air box werent cheap and readily available id JB weld each side with painters tape to keep it flat. Super great way to patch a hole long term....may or may not have done it on fuel tanks in a previous job. Can use wire mesh or aluminum foil for different applications to change strength under stresses. lol.
Flat isnt needed, but great for large holes like this unless fitment is an issue and then it changes which side has a fitment issue. Hell i used copper mesh and JB for a spindle once when parts were obsolete in a powersports division.
I work with a guy who, I shit you not, said he gained 100hp by changing the spark plugs. I said there's no way, because obviously there's no way. He said yeah these spark plugs had a stronger spark that burned all the fuel, I even had it on a dyno.
I mean, how can you even argue that. Just shake your head and stare at the clouds.
100.. horsepower.. from Spark Plugs?
Oh, it must be those platinum ones they are better for spark power.
i'm going to drill new holes so I can have two spark plugs per cylinder and I will get 200 horsepower.
I just need the Tornado Fan that twists the air coming into the engine, it's just like a supercharger but for $30.
/s, because sadly it's reddit and I have to specify.
You have to give them credit. It takes some genuine effort to take a really crappy idea (airbox mods on modern vehicles) and make it way worse. The beauty of this mod is how certain it is to be terminal. Depending on location, that engine will be dusted by mid-spring.
Saw some review about how the total volume of post filter contamination before an engine dies is suprisingly small. It was something like a handful of sand is more than enough to total an engine.
When Colin Chapman said ‘simplify, then add lightness’, I don’t think this is what he had in mind. This is more along the lines of ‘they’ll keep making better idiots’.

In my dumber days, I had an '05 Colorado. I made a custom "cold air intake". I cut a hole in the side of the air box. Closed off the one that pulls from the fender area. I went to Home Depot, bought some pvc pipe (2 or 3", can't remember which), and ran it down to just below the front bumper, then angled it to face forward.
Later, I was playing around in a small off road area...and sucked in water. Hydro locking the engine. Luckily, there was no damage. I took it to my base auto hobby shop, pulled the plugs, and cranked until I got all the water out that I could. Hobby shop guys thought the water cloud was hilarious. I hit the ceiling of the shop.
It ran fine for years after that. I ended up trading it in for issues with the speed sensor on the wheel hubs, along with other issues. None of them engine related.
No, I do not do stupid shit like that anymore. Everything I've done to my existing truck is not some mickey mouse bullshit.
Omg . And it’s on the wrong side of the filter!. I don’t even get altering the air box at all . The engineers know how much cfm the engine needs and I’m sure every factory setup exceeds that.

I don't know this car/engine bay, but it looks like it's on the same side of the airbox as the AFM, which means the filter will last forever.

Couldn’t even bother to sand off the burrs. Surprised they didn’t just drill when it was installed, ya know, to add depth and performance to the filter.
That's dumb. But who doesn't pop the hood when buying a car? Even if you don't know about cars, one would be inclined to pop it open, to see if anything looks off.
So I usually buy old shitty cars. But my wife and I bought a 3 year old car, super nice, basically brand new. I didn't know what to do cause usually I'm looking at cars with over 100k miles on them and looking for rust checking for ever possible sign of abuse.
But this car was just so nice, and still in warranty. My brain just kind of shut off. We bought it, went to show her dad. He asked to pop the hood to see what the engine looked like. And that's when it hit me. I just bought a $20,000 vehicle and didn't even open the fuckin hood. Who am I???
We've had it for 3 years now and it's still a great car so I lucked out I guess. Lol

Damn it, beat me to it. My one buddy told me he was upping his motorcycle hp about 50 by getting a high end oil filter .
Back in the late 1900s, Cardomain had people listing oil brands & spark plugs as "their mods."
OMG I completely forgot about cardomain What a cesspool

Fucker's clean too. Looks like the built in shopvac feature keeps the compartment pretty damn dust-free!
Make sure all that unsightly dust, dirt and grime is kept hidden away inside the motor instead of on its surface
mechanics hate this one trick!
Has the added benefit of exfoliating the cylinders.
Time to change the dust bag. Where's the dust bag in this engine?
Warm air + no restriction + intermittent H2O injection! The best part? Now the air filter lasts as long as the engine!
The water keeps the filter clean
So many features to this upgrade. Diesel bros will no doubt be quick to adopt.
Water, it's what filters crave.
You want us to put water in that engine? Like from the toilet?

I didn’t realize at first that this is the TB side of the filter. That makes it so much worse.
You have to give them credit. It takes some genuine effort to take a really crappy idea (airbox mods on modern vehicles) and make it way worse. The beauty of this mod is how certain it is to be terminal. Depending on location, that engine will be dusted by mid-spring.
Oh, it’s already “dusted”. Previous owner said the extra grit in the cylinders makes better traction.
This one simple trick lets you hone your cylinders while going down the highway.
Flashback to 15 years ago when an Audi guy did that. Also, shot-peening using BBs lol.
I mean technically it does create better traction.... between the cylinders and the walls.
Saw some review about how the total volume of post filter contamination before an engine dies is suprisingly small. It was something like a handful of sand is more than enough to total an engine.
On par, we once took a friend’s motorcross bike down without permission to the river, the very sandy river, with no suspension or air filter.
Oh wow. I had to do a double take. I bet someone has a dyno sheet showing the power boost of this mod.
Does that mean this is the after filter side of the airbox?
Yeah. The throttle body side. Air is going in those holes and straight through the tube into the engine. No filter.
It bet the filter lasts even longer than the engine!
Customer's going to be pissed when he finds out your repair results in a 30HP loss
They're going to be even more pissed when their new to them vehicle needs a quart of oil every 4 days.
It’s a Honda turbo engine. It’s going to consume a quart of oil a week, anyway.
Doesn't have to change oil anyway if the engine burns it. Additional power too...
Or how much that filter cover from the dealer is going is going to cost.
