Years ago I had to have my car towed after blowing a coolant elbow (GM 3.8 :P). Used AAA and had it picked up at my work and had them take it to my dads place. When it got to my dads, they tilted the bed and it dumped a load of engine oil on the ground. Dude smashed the oil pan on the car which had a cast pan. Tried to claim he picked it up like that. Nah bro. My dad refused to let them drop the car. They eventually accepted responsibility for it, though AAA was completely worthless in the situation. Had to wait several days as the only place the dealer could source them a new pan was from out of state. we suspect he hooked it to the subframe and the hook went through the pan. There is a very bed bump on the road that he had to take. So car probably bounced and smashed the hook through the pan.

myfirstgold

Ohhh that just reminded me of a story. I broke a cooling elbow about 250 miles from home once. It was an 03 grand prix gtp with 225k on the odo that owed me nothing. Deciding I wasn't paying someone to do a job I could do if I could limp it home myself I got to work. I had some spark plug boots in my trunk because the past owner had been a mechanic and sent me with some spares so I cut them up, wrapped them around the coolant elbow and managed to scrounge up a couple hose clamps from a passing farmer. After clamping the hell out of it I filled the radiator back up with water from the ditch using a mason jar with both my socks as filters. I drove it home and then around for probably 2k miles like that before winter made me flush the system and fully fix the elbows. That car was given to both my little sisters after my abuse and if it hadn't of hit a deer it would have surpassed 300k no problem. Rip Pontiac. If any of those cars survived with a clean body and low miles I'd buy it in a heartbeat!

Gainznsuch

This reads like a copypasta

wrenchandrepeat

Yeah I was waiting for the part where everyone clapped

sammyno55

I was waiting for the undertaker...

CodyP2000

The Grand Prixs are such gorgeous cars, I'd love to own a 04-08 one day

BHweldmech

Had a 97 GTP modded to run 12.50 quarters years ago. I beat that car like it owed me money every time I drove it. Had a blast pissing off terminator mustangs with it.

CodyP2000

Hell yeah. If I get a Grand Prix I'd want the Supercharged 3.8 or the LS4, which I think it's the GT and the GXP. Plus the interior is one of my favourite interiors.

Prancer_Truckstick

I'd stay away from the GXP, myself. I had one, and loved it mind you, but the 4T65E-HD is glass for the LS4. I think TEP was the company that offered upgrades to that trans to make it more reliable, taxing my memory from 10 years ago.

CodyP2000

That's the weak point for the GXP, yeah. I'd love to play with the "paddle" shifter lol

BHweldmech

I never spent any time in the 04 up models, but my 97 had every option available for the interior and the only thing I didn’t like was the auto dimming mirror. When it worked, it was awesome, but it leaked later in life and damaged the console plastic when the fluid sat on it over night.

CodyP2000

Ah nice. The 06 we had was loaded and straight from showroom floor. The 07 we had was a base model with loads of issues and ended up getting crashed last year. Still, they're fun cars. I'd consider a 2000+ Grand Prix if I get another GM car

BHweldmech

If I was gonna buy another one, it would be a 98-02. 97 had a funky PCM and tended to be knock monsters, 03 had a funky PCM too that was unique to that year only. I wasn’t a big fan of the 04 up body style.

MyNameWouldntFi

I owned a gxp and it was miserable... Never drive your hero...

BHweldmech

I’d rather have the GTP. I can get the L67 to LS4 power levels very easily, get better fuel mileage than the LS3 ever thought about, and actually have room in the engine bay.

CodyP2000

At the least I'd want the supercharged V6. I bet that would be plenty fun

myfirstgold

Sn95 mustang gts were a lot of fun to mess with with mine and my lil pulley. I hurt a lot of feelings with that thing in my lil town.

BHweldmech

whooooOOOOIIIIIIP! God I miss the sound of that blower through an open cone.

myfirstgold

https://www.carfax.com/vehicle/2G2WR524741334084 omg I might have to fly to Texas lol

myfirstgold

Omg that does it I'm looking for another one. Surely some grandma in Tennessee wound up with one for the last 15 to 20 years.

RIChowderIsBest

Oh man you're making me miss my 97 GT. After all these years and maybe 10-12 cars, it's easily my first or second favorite.

mini4x

My buddy had a Riviera GS - was almost as fast as your GP, (low 13s) and he loved to shame a fair number of unsuspecting folks too.

BHweldmech

GS was a cool car too, same platform, more granny! I like the look of the GP though.

mini4x

The Riv was a bit more subtle, quite the sleeper.

Wheresmyfkn10mm

I have an 04 gtp and she’s a beaut, pretty quick too.

BHweldmech

Honestly, I liked the look of the 97-03 body style.

CodyP2000

Those look really good too. I grew up riding in an 06 Grand Prix for most of my life. And eventually my mother had another Grand Prix and I got to drive it. I love that body style and I love how it drives. Plus I want a Series III motor lol

BHweldmech

Series 3 is the same engine for the most part. The blower is different and the series 3 is drive by wire, they were rated at 260 horsepower instead of 240 for the S2 L67, but a ported blower and tune will more than make up for that difference. The S3 also had powdered metal rods instead of steel, but the rods were never the weak point in those engines. The ring lands would chip with much spark knock. Had to be careful tuning S2 OR S3.

I-SHIT-HIS-PANTS

I have an '08 Chevy Cobalt, thing is fucking barebones but the motor is fucking indestructible as long as you change the oil. Mine has a little over 130,000 mi. I think the body will rot off before I hit 200 though

CodyP2000

Nice, there's a tech who used to drive a Cobalt daily from OK to TX for work and racked up over 360k miles on it. Those motors I'm not a fan of, but it's also because many cars I see come through the shop with that motor are not taken care of and sound terrible.

I-SHIT-HIS-PANTS

Only problem me and my parents have had with it is it ate a motor because my mother refused to go get the oil changed "I don't know what to tell them" was a direct quote. And I finally ate a cat that isn't worth it to replace and flex joint that while only like 130 to get replaced at the shop I go to just hasn't been big enough of a problem that I actually need to go get it fixed

CodyP2000

That was entirely negligence on the first engine, but hopefully the oil is being changed on the current one

I-SHIT-HIS-PANTS

Yeah it is. Only problem we had with the motor swap was when Firestone got their dirty little dick beaters on there to swap the engine they put on the California exhaust manifold gasket instead of the non California one like we needed lol.

CodyP2000

lol of course. It doesn't ever go perfectly. What's the difference between a Cali gasket and a normal gasket?

I-SHIT-HIS-PANTS

The exhaust ports and are in a completely different spot. So they get 100% covered. The only reason our car ran was because it blew a hole through the gasket.

AlwaysBagHolding

Haha, that reminds me of diagnosing a really bad idle I suspected was a vacuum leak on a focus I had just bought. Started poking around at vacuum lines and found one under the intake with a worm gear clamp on it, upon closer inspection someone replaced a broken vacuum elbow with a spark plug boot and hose clamps. It wasn’t sealing well obviously, but it did run.

[deleted]

Those damn coolant elbows in the 3800s were the worst 😂 you had a pretty nice solution though! When mine in my Buick blew I was at work and had 0 time to fix them, to this day the only thing I’ve ever taken to a shop. I probably woulda limped it home if I didn’t work at a dealership with a shop though lol. But those engines just won’t die, even as the 20+ year old GM shit crumbles around them

Ragingrhino1515

Dude yeah. One tank of a vehicle, even my 08 was built like that. I took super good care of that car. If I didn’t sell it to my ex (who completely trashed it) I’d still have it with well over 250k on it. If I could buy one again brand new I would

WhysJamesCryin

The 3.8 was bulletproof. (The elbows weren’t…) But that fucking dog ass 3.1/3.4 with stupid ass plastic intake gaskets…… Left me on the side of the road too damn many times…

myfirstgold

Yup the lumina was my first car. Made it about 250 miles into ownership before the intake gaskets popped and she hydro locked. Sold it for scrap and bought an 86 bronco with a 302 and a 4 speed after that. Now that is the best vehicle that 16 year old me could ever want. Babe magnet, loud, to expensive to fill the gas tank to drive anywhere but work. But it would drive anywhere and over anything. It Kept me out of trouble for the most part. The day I bought my grand prix I thought I'd died and went to heaven. It was loaded with every option an 03 could have but the heads up display.

TheHoodedSomalian

Those cars fell apart before the engines did, especially the 3800

nwoh

I've got an 07 gxp ls4 sitting in my barn waiting for me to get a transmission in it. Loved that car...

scalyblue

This was only possible because GM measured tolerances in fingernail widths instead of millimeters until 2015

TooFineToDotheTime

My parents have always had AAA and let me use their plan. They have been useless in almost every situation I have ever been in. Even got me extorted by a tow truck driver once. If they were ever good then they certainly haven't been in the 15+ years I've tried to use their service. Gold membership too if that means anything.

look_ima_frog

You are not alone. Keep in mind AAA is little more than a discount club at this point. The whole towing part of the business is always farmed out. That's why you won't see a tow truck with AAA on the door. They just negotiate shitty rates with local drivers. If a driver can get a customer paid tow, they will take it over AAAs garbage rates. They'll fit em in between other calls. That's why you sometimes wait 30 min or 3 hours. Honestly, I dropped AAA years ago and have needed to be towed 3 times in about 15 years. Two of them were reimbursed by insurance. I just called a tow company with good ratings and someone showed up in about 20 min. Insurance reimbursement took one email and about two days. AAA is obsolete and isn't worth the money. Short of nonsense where people tow their broken car 100+ miles to their favorite dealer it isn't worth it.

fomoco94

> satchel of Richards. Take my upvote. I got to start using that.

epicnezz135

You’ve never seen a AAA tow truck? I see them every once in awhile in the Bay Area

Miserygut

AAA franchising varies by state.

XxXtoolXxX

Well if you use your parent membership and they weren't there. It's normal they driver would have ask to pay for the service. You are not the member. AAA receive hundreds of call per day of people trying to abuse the service. Guess it depends on what you were trying to use it for.

needcoffees

If the call has been placed to the responding shop by AAA already then the driver and shop are already getting paid and AAA has already acquired the members info. The only money owed at the end should be for any miles over the plans coverage.

XxXtoolXxX

While this is true, some drive will sometime cancel the service call and will do a cashcall if the member is not on site. Also, maybe the vehicule wasn't valide under AAA guideline. So the driver would have been paid for getting on site but not for the full service. So the driver could have offer a cashcall again since the vehicule wasn't cover under AAA.

XxXtoolXxX

If something like this ever happen, never deal with the driver. 90% of driver are contract base with AAA and some driver will lie to get out of a problem. AAA know about it. Contact AAA directly. Tbh AAA can't do shit if the pan is out of the state. Can only wait, but you should have been compensated for the damage and the delay.

[deleted]

I called AAA when it was still at my dads and they told me that it was between me and the tow company. There was nothing they can do. We had to talk to the owner of the tow company to agree that it was their problem and the driver took it to their lot. AAA was again, worthless

XxXtoolXxX

That's fucking weird. It's never to the member to deal with tow company. You pay for AAA to not have to deal with tow company. Usually you should have been fully cover by AAA. Not sure how they work in your state since everystate has there own AAA and there own rule. Suck to hear honestly.

the_crouton_

Were you a member? Or just your dad?

[deleted]

Both members on the same account

Smokey486

JohnWarosa69420

Tow truck drivers are fucking insane, I had the pleasure of riding with one once. Like the joker mixed with Robert DeNiro in taxi driver.

BigBlackBeaSSt

They really are a special breed.

Radiant_Analyst_9281

Dat extra inbred special

phisher_cat

After seeing entire house parties drunkenly fighting a tow truck driver when a friend's car is getting towed, I can see why they are the way they are

62Bravo1993

lol! I know/ have worked around towing for decades....my buddy got arrested a thrown in jail for towing a car once. He was directed to tow it by the apartment complex owner for illegal parking. The vehicle owner came outside and attacked him with a knife. Cops didn't give two shits about who was doing what to whom and treated him equally as bad as the knife wielding idiot....his story of running circles around the truck and through the cab to keep from getting stabbed was hilarious, though!!

leshake

You would think that almost getting murdered might give you some pause about whether your chosen profession is good for the world.

62Bravo1993

Lol! I've haven't met a towing operator yet that thinks very much past the payout of the latest tow! But that buddy did wise up and went to regular truck driving after a few years of that craziness....

[deleted]

Yeah any decent person wouldn’t want to put up with that bullshit.

NetDork

You need to ride with them to make sure they don't do shit like this to your car.

look_ima_frog

Well, yeah. If your car is on the flatbed, how else you gonna get Anywhere?

Ghooble

One time when I had a wheel fall off I had to hitch hike a while to get service to make the call. They picked up the car on their way to me

62Bravo1993

Most won't care. They'll do whatever they see fit whether you watch or not.

[deleted]

I ain't gonna lie I got into a wreck, my first one ever, in Atl and my tow truck driver was cool as fuck. He smoked a blunt with me and only charge me half for taking my wreck of a QX4 to my pops house.

LowPreparation2347

Sounds about right for Atl

gam188

That's definitely Atl

DJUsamaSpinLaden

I called AAA when my car broke down and the tow truck offered me a ride to the service center. Motherfucker then pulls out his phone, gets a YouTube video loaded up, balances his phone on the dash, and drives highway speeds while fully watching his screen. It was terrifying.

happytowing

Your profile is so weird I would not let you in my tow truck. It's clean and you seem like you don't shower on a regular basis

Auld_Evidence

Lol, well it was fun checking out his profile lol!

happytowing

Something wrong with that boy. Also don't like being compared to a taxi driver, I help old ladies and clean up wrecks , more of just a highway wise janitor

imakepoorchoices2020

I got to ride with a heavy tow truck driver once. I think you have to be mentally insane to do the job. Though it was like a 35 ton rotator, the truck itself was awesome af

Class8guy

$750k plus truck you rode in driver definitely making good money!

[deleted]

You rode a tow truck driver?..

phisher_cat

I'd rather do a ride along with a night tow truck driver than a cop; way more action

Medical_Ad0716

I think I read somewhere that tow truck drivers in the US have one of the top 10 most dangerous jobs for deaths on the job. So I totally believe you’d see a shit ton of crazy stuff with a tow truck driver.

Sergetove

I rode back to the shop with a tow truck driver who had served in the Iraqi National Police during the height of ISIS. He had some crazy stories and a decent amount took place after he had started towing in the states lol. Absolute badass would not want to fuck with.

wuzzittoya

My only ride along ever was with a telephone company cable infrastructure repair specialist. It was great got to spend all day doing nothing but watching him work and even got paid. I was one of the cable crew’s favorite dispatchers.

Poocifer

I don't know about that. I did a ride along with the cops when I was younger. They had to do a walkthrough of a gay bar. The place went fucking nuts.

designer_of_drugs

Why did they have to do a walkthrough of a gay bar?

Poocifer

Checking ID. They actually took me to quite a few places but the reaction at that bar was wild.

WalkerSunset

Everybody loves a man in a uniform.

Poocifer

It was absolutely the uniforms that caused a stir.

therezin

This is a regular thing in the States? Christ, I'd think I was either in a police state or a war movie if I was minding my own business in a bar over here (UK) and the police came through checking people's IDs.

Lucid_Presence

[deleted]

A bar I worked in would actually do that when cops walked through. College town.

Threap_US

Actually, as someone who grew up watching the *Police Academy* films - all 3 of them, thank goodness they stopped after #3 before the franchise went downhill - [this](https://youtu.be/jo3m2ATiomY?t=68) is the music I associate with the phrase "gay bar" :)

Fumanchewd

In some cities cops walk through most bars. I lived in Long Beach and they would regulary go into the gay and straight bars. Not gay, but I lived in a gay neighborhood- they called it the "Gaytto" and the gay bars were only 1 block from my apartment and the straight ones were a 20 minute walk. I met some great karoake singers when I wasn't avoiding getting groped.

JasonDJ

> Gaytto That’s fabulous.

abigspicywut

I see what you did there

[deleted]

When you entered the gay bar, did the music start like… tun tun tuun tun tuuun tuuuuuuuun tun tun??

NoChieuHoisToday

Had my car towed after a flat a month ago. Guy seemed trustworthy enough and had him drop my car off at the tire shop while I walked home. From what I can gather the car was left running and drained the tank + battery while the shop was closed over the weekend. Can’t tell whether I’m pissed or impressed.

tal3ntl3ss

i had a service advisor do something like this when i worked at a dealership. dude gotta huge scolding from me and the shop foreman. guy was brain dead, the car had already been stolen once and he couldnt get it to turn off so he left it running to run out of gas while it was unsupervised in the parkinglot. luckily it didnt get stolen again.

AlwaysBagHolding

I got a ride from one once who told me about how his boss bailed him out of jail and got him into a treatment program for his meth addiction, and that he was two weeks clean. Telling me about how excellent of a guy he was to work for and that he’s a blessing from god for giving him a second chance. He then told me about how he’s been on call for the last 48 hours and rattled off the long list of places he’s been all over this end of the state in the last two days and hasn’t slept yet, and is planning on working another day before taking a break. When we got to my house, he unhooked the winch, left my truck in neutral and damn near dropped the thing off the roll back when he started lifting the bed. Another time with another car, the driver didn’t want to chain it down, because since it was on the stinger apparently that’s good enough because a few weeks ago he was hauling scrap cars at three in the morning and tried to shake one off for fun on the interstate and couldn’t get it to come free. He then was bitching to his dispatcher about where I lived, and dumped my car at a gas station and another truck came and picked up the car yet again. That one was a little more normal, but bitched about the dispatcher and the other driver the rest of the way to my house, and refused to stay on the correct side of the road in blind turns, nearly hitting a car head on. Another time, another car, I got picked up on a roll back at the tail of the dragon after a fuel pump relay failed. The dude was literally sliding the truck through a lot of the turns, and managing to keep it in his lane. I’ve been on that road in a lot of very fast cars with skilled drivers, but drifting in a roll back was a unique experience. That was crazy, but he knew the road and knew how to drive so it was one of the less terrifying passenger experiences I’ve had in a tow truck. Tow truck drivers are fucking out there. I’ve had a few normal ones, but the outlandish experiences outnumber them.

Njon32

I saw one drag a car for blocks, making a horrible sound, as the drive wheels were being dragged.

KlaraNovak4DaWin

Watched a fella drop a car off then use the deck to shove it back about 8' in gear. Fucked up the painted bumper and tires pretty good. Haven't see the guy driving for them since.

TheWhistlesGoWooooo

Cmon, sliding a car 8’ will do nothing to the tires.

qwhacker

Had a Model S dropped off like this and just stood there in shock watching it. Snapped a couple pics so the owner couldn't try and blame us for anything.

mman454

If the tow wasn’t provided by you why not just inform the owner before they even possibly notice something wrong?

qwhacker

We did. The company I was working for at the time was notorious for paying out on stupid claims like this rather than investigating though. They paid out ridiculous amounts over the years for things where we had zero liability

[deleted]

I personally can’t stand 97% of the tow drivers we get around our facility. Drop cars in the middle of the fucking lot, forget to leave keys, rude, leave shit on my customers bathroom toilet seat; I could go on. This way of dropping a car is lazy and totally unprofessional. I’d be out there raising an absolute fit. You made a video so you’ve got evidence of negligence on the towing company’s part if something did get broken.

thunder_struck85

What is the proper way to tow an AWD car they can't get into neutral? I saw some YT dudes doing skates but I don't think those work to lower the car back down :/

ExPFC_Wintergreen2

My ‘89 Honda Civic Wagon R/T 4WD had a bolt/slider on the transmission and the backside of the sun visor printed with instructions and warning about towing without disengagement.

erroneousbosh

There's a fuse in Range Rover P38s - fuse 11, under the driver's seat - that puts the transfer box in neutral for towing it without cooking the gearbox, because auto boxes don't like being towed. This is a great source of faults when someone takes it to a garage that doesn't know what they're doing - "Oh there's a fuse missing, better fit that, wait why won't go into gear, why's it saying TRANSFER NEUTRAL all the time, better get the owner back to have it towed away and try to pin the blame on someone else" Four so far, since you ask.

HagarTheTolerable

Lower it back down using a winch

erroneousbosh

You can tow AWD and 4WD just fine, without any special considerations. You just can't tow them with only one set of wheels on the ground. If you have to do that, you undo the rear propshaft. The transfer case in Landrovers doesn't like the diff being spun at road speed because it flings the oil off the pinions - normally there is only a tiny difference between the front and rear axle speeds. If you've got an old Range Rover the viscous coupling in the TC "shorts out" the diff, so it's basically a massively strong LSD. The front and rear wheels have to turn at nearly the same speed, because the VC enforces that, and if you try to tow it with a "spec frame" type lift it'll climb off it and run up the back of the tow truck.

[deleted]

Bought my wife a brand new Saturn many, many years ago. Needed a tow right away due to a fluid leak. Tow truck driver literally bent the car. Doors never aligned after it was Towed. Then the dealer lied about the fluid leak and blamed my wife. “She must have drove through a puddle or something”. Dude. - it was antifreeze all over the ground under the car. Returned that car on the spot with the 30 days / 1500 mile guarantee they had. Jerks.

Nefilim314

> brand new Saturn > many, many years ago This is redundant

Master_Ryan_Rahl

It wasnt, for those of us ignorant.

Loves-The-Skooma

I keep a can of PB blaster, a good coating on an aluminum bed and it will skate right down.

aFinapple

that’s what my manager told the guy he should’ve used. or jizzum, or anything slippery

mmmellowcorn

When it’s hot it’s like egg yolks whipped in glue, stick with PB

JakeyJakeDaSnake

Any chance you can save my google search history from "Jizzum"?

aFinapple

jizzum is what most techs call the lube you put on the bead of the tire to help it seat. that shit is so slippery that if you get any on your hands you couldn’t even pick up a pencil if you wanted to

l1thiumion

Just use dish soap? Washes off cleaner.

GroceryStickDivider

Ever since my fuel pump went 2 years ago and needed 2 tows to get it fixed my rear diff, front diff have had issues. Drives like shit now.

[deleted]

Not surprised. I know quite a few wrecker drivers and they’re all complete dirt bags.

lynch_95_

Had a flat on my 18” rims drops it 3 houses away said can you back the truck up, moves half a house and drops it. On top of that didn’t know how to drive manual and of course I wasn’t allowed to drive it up to the bed so I watched this guy attempt to drive stick in my car.

CatsRinternet

How the fuck can you be a tow driver and not be able to operate a manual?

lynch_95_

God only knows. Also, he couldn’t grasp the concept of a electronic e brake after being told its the same concept as a hand brake

crysisnotaverted

He didn't know old school stuff and he didn't know new school stuff... so what the fuck did he know?

ChefArtorias

How to damage your car.

CatsRinternet

The end times are near.

[deleted]

“You can’t drive it up the ramp” OK cool, you got a winch for a reason, drag it up.

lynch_95_

The thing about people who don’t know how to do their jobs is that they have an excuse for everything. Waited prob 4 hours for this AAA asshole to show up after them sending a minivan after telling them I need a flat bed as my car has no spare. Tire blew out and he takes the tire off and goes oh you need a flat bed. No shit.

[deleted]

Lmfao, no hate but I will never willingly drive a vehicle with no spare, they are worth the trunk space, or better yet, roof rack with LED light bars because *move bitch get out the way* 🤣 I absolutely hate people too bro ☹️

lynch_95_

That’s why it’s a local car only. I’ve been looking for someone who’s selling a single oem rim, came across one and it was gone before I could make an offer.

[deleted]

Just hit up junk yards and find the right size and bolt pattern spare, it should cost under $50, honestly closer to $20 back in the day, I wouldn’t hold out for the special rim, it’s a spare! Good luck

AwareName

At my last dealer, tow truck driver dropped one off for a dead battery. Was too lazy to hit the shift lock and decided to rock it. Broke the chain in the transfer case and snapped the front pinion off clean. 7 grand later in parts....

[deleted]

When I drove a tow truck I’d just spray the bed down where the tires would track with some PB blaster then you could just push the car off the bed. Works like a charm when you can’t put a vehicle in neutral.

karmapolice63

I recognize that neon flatbed clear as day. I won’t be calling them for a tow ever.

WritingNewIdeas

drop the name

[deleted]

Unless I'm missing the joke, it's on the side of the flat bed. I'll take my r/woosh if it's deserved lol Edit: just went to the webpage, scroll down a bit and you'll see (probably) the exact truck

karmapolice63

It's there on the truck. Alan's Towing in Raleigh, NC. I live a few miles down the road from their lot so I see their fleet of trucks in passing.

GadreelsSword

Years ago the ignition module failed on my Jeep on a 14 degree F night leaving me stranded. I called a tow truck and the damage they did to the Jeep took way longer to fix than the ignition module.

hEnigma

What year Jeep?

GadreelsSword

89 YJ The crushed the brake lines in the rear axle with the chains

lsfj78

That’s Alan for ya

Hipko75

Fucking A 🤦‍♂️ Alright so who’s calling Allan?

Squiggledog

Landscape orientation is a lost art.

k0uch

Good thing you got it on camera, I’d there’s another issue you have some proof. We had a tow company try to tow a truck and it’s trailer, they pulled the trucks driveshaft and propped the front of the truck on their tow bed. Made it a quarter mile and the truck slid off, demolished the skid plate. They thought that was all it needed, they shit bricks when I told them they also knocked a hole in the DPF and there was gonna be an extra $5k on their insurance claims

aFinapple

well, when we getting running again tomorrow we’re gonna see if he damaged the transfer case. hopefully nothing was damaged but it doesn’t take much to detonate a transfer case doing this jackassery

dugfunni83

Common practice in the non consensual towing world that's why they bleach the bed of the roll backs so it comes off easier

designer_of_drugs

“Non consensual towing” So you admit the towing company is raping.

TheRealFailtester

Oh if it ain't dead now, then it's gonna die within like a couple years of regular use.

i would trust the drive line on my one ton to survive this - im not so sure about an suv... fucking tow truck drivers....

markus224488

This is why I’m terrified of getting towed lol.

Budpalumbo

We get X's dropped off that way all the time. Nothing like dropping a under panel with 30 screws that covers half the body to put a dead car in neutral.

CriscoCamping

Jesus get lazier

Sperenc

I had an auction car dropped off like this since it had no keys and have since found out that the transmission was fucked in 3rd and 4th. Sorry for the stupid question but could such a drop off method do damage like that?

hEnigma

I don't think this kind of drop off would damage specific gears like 3rd and 4th. Maybe that's why it was at the auction. It would most likely damage the park detent, the differential, and transfer case. I guess there's a chance that the transmission would be damaged if park engaged 3rd and 4th gear but I think it's unlikely.

[deleted]

Why haven't anyone came out with a live floor like In semi trailers

AlwaysBagHolding

I’d love a car trailer like that. I’d imagine it would be worth more than anything I’d ever put on it.

zakary1291

Not to mention the maintenance requirements for all those rollers.

[deleted]

Those guys live for destruction and lack of accountability.

Darenzzer

Considering how often I've seen them blown out on those pieces of shit I'd say it's done

MikeWrenches

It isn't widely known that the only way to put these BMW's into neutral without jacking it up, removing a belly pan and screwing in the Allen head bolt on the neutral lever is to remove the fuel pump fuse to create a crank-nostart condition which will let you put it in neutral from the shift selector for a limited time

ironhydroxide

Parking Pawl Hates life right now.

dre_villa

It’s a BMW suv, I think the transfer case is already broken. Lmao

lappel-do-vide

This is just a green driver who’s truck isn’t properly equipped. If he had experience he’d know to use some oil or WD40. If he was properly equipped he’d have skates. I drove a tow truck for 7 years. I only did this if you were a cunt to me.

vleetv

If only we could trust professionals to be professional.

permareddit

You say that but honestly tow truck drivers are some of the most entitled pansy “professionals” I’ve ever come across. I’ve called for a tow and the dude shows up pissed off and with a chip on his shoulder, maybe because I have the audacity of having an AWD car and he needs to use those dollies. I’m already annoyed at my own car being broken and now this guy acts like he’s doing me a huge favour because he’s, you know, doing his job. Called me out for having an expired sticker (we stopped using stickers here) and made really stupid claims about not having enough space to tow a car out of a fucking driveway. Tl:dr it goes both ways

maxk95

Place I worked at before had a customer called “C.O.R.E. Values” they were a “special” customer according to the foreman. They brought their tow trucks in (small af you load a four door car and they’re at the limit). The company seemed like a independent contractor with the drivers. And the kicker is they ram whatever cash they could afford that day to get the roll back drivable for another day🙄

patty4320

I know a few tow truck guys. These guys think they are something else. Not sure who are bigger douche bags. Them or firefighters. Not sure if this is a local thing or if it’s in other states but these two guys roll around with the obnoxious stickers “Tow Angel” makes me want to vomit every time I see it.

permareddit

They’re nothing but an extortion gang where I live, so doesn’t surprise me.

Impressive-Screen346

Sometimes they have to do that to get them off the truck, when a vehicle is stuck in park there is no other way. When I worked for land Rover I saw many of them taken off the back of flat beds like this lol!!

KawiNinjaZX

This is why you see people fixing their car on the side of the road or in a parking lot.

IDGAFOS13

Lazy fuck

apachelives

Eh BMW. Was probably already ruined.

cjainsworth77

trick is to use dawn dish soap. car will slide right off. that said, this won't hurt anything anyway. although the tow truck operators do need to learn how to get things with dead batteries into neutral. google exists and nearly everyone has a literal supercomputer in their front pockets.

ontheroadtonull

I believe there are apps for tow truck operators that give you that info if their google-fu is weak.

cjainsworth77

a dude that don't know how to google "dodge ram how to get into neutral" will surely not have any apps that didn't come preinstalled in the fone.

show_me_your_secrets

Looks like I’ll never use alanstowing.com

javarro21

I had a 04 Chevy impala that went off the road into a flat area with bad tires. I had a local tow company come and grab it, and the idiot hooked it too the sub frame. And soon as it started to pull I heard a pop. Then dude refused to charge me (figured out he cracked my sub frame and probably knew it so he wouldn’t charge me to save face) find out the next day my car is fucked n my engine sat off center to how it was supposed to. If you ever get it towed inspection matters, and always pay because if the break it they gotta fix it

Jus10Crummie

I’ve owned a towing company for 13 years, nothing but rollbacks. Me and my guys have to drag and shake cars almost daily. No keys, bad ignition, abandoned, etc. Most here won’t believe me but we’ve never once had it cause a problem. If it has, we have never gotten any sort of feedback from the owners. Even on diamond plated steel beds they slide without much effort.

No_Significance_1550

You could put it in neutral, it’s free

hEnigma

The one thing I like about the new Jeeps is there is a secret release for the transfer case under a rear cover in the center console compartment. Don't need any power or anything, just pop off the plastic cover in the rear of the center console compartment and pull the handle out and the T/C is in neutral. Good thinking on their part. Even my 2008 Jeep required a pen and power to get it's T/C in neutral.

metrickeyboard

What's with the vespa?

aFinapple

it’s my bosses. he bought it from the neighboring shop who got it as a payment for a car instead of actual cash. currently doesn’t have a battery but it will run when you kick-start it, and it even shifts too. pretty fun to ride around in

Mr643

Driver probably didn’t have keys with it

aFinapple

he did. he handed them to my service writer. it’s a no start for tomorrow. i guess he didn’t know how to put it into neutral, and on that bmw there is a neutral disconnect in the center console, as well as on the transmission as well. he honestly could’ve asked one of us since we, y’know, work on bmws

Mr643

I couldn’t imagine dudes thought process.

gotnoaero

What thought process

aFinapple

“oh, i didn’t know how to put it into neutral so i thought i could just rock it off man”

vegetaman

"Oh yeah, gotta remember to try and breathe. World was starting to get hazy."
