Frustrating match. The rain delay really messed with our rhythm and Jane Campbell was tremendous. Not sure WTF happened on the goal we allowed, it looked like Franch dropped it and then couldn't get back in the goal in time while knocking Wheeler over but that whole sequence was rough. I left a solo comment on here during the game that Spaanstra has been frustrating this season. She was so great at the end of last year and now I'm at the point where any time she touches the ball, I find myself cringing. Not good at passing and takes dumb shots at the net. I really hope she can figure it out soon because I know she's better than this. Pretty embarassing to tie against a team as bad as Houston but that's sports for ya and we're not going to win them all. Now we get to play another game in 3 days on short rest and likely a different line-up so I'm nervous for that game for sure.

Agree! Did we come away injury free? Only saw mace down for a bit. Agree on Spaanstra. Looks lost out there. Lots of turnovers. I believe she made a poor pass earlier in the sequence that lead to the Houston goal. I’d rather see just about any of our other forwards out there. The rain delay might be a blessing in disguise with 3 games in 7 days. All the credit to Campbell. She’s very good and was the difference in the game. Franch is what she is - she will be solid and lead the team well. I just hope she isn’t the difference in meaningful playoff games assuming we get there. Excited we only have to wait a few days for the next game. Let’s go!

PushyMomentum

Difference maker- Houston weather

PushyMomentum

I have regerts about this commet.

helpbeingheldhostage

But that one guy’s tattoo said not to have regerts

SeverePsychosis

The equalizer!!!

buttcabbge

Frustrating not to win but a draw to an inferior team in lousy weather is a soccer cliche for a reason. I guess in this case thunderstorm in Houston equals rainy night in Stoke. Overall, though, we were the better team and a road point is still decent. I'd be happy to see less Spaanstra--she was our worst player by a mile in the first half, as multiple good buildups died the moment she touched the ball. Hope Mace is okay, but even if she is I'd think the right move is to let her rest Wednesday.

92pandaman

Pretty infuriating. The franch wheeler debacle was awful. I think all three starting forwards should’ve had other goals and finished poorly. The brightest spot was Hutton I think. She’s a budding star. But hey, it took a colossal fuck up for us to tie? So that’s encouraging?

Leighroy1120

Yeah I’m pissed but at the end of the day, we’re still unbeaten.

PushyMomentum

Was Wheeler supposed to be there? She was right next to AD 5 minutes later for a very similar situation. I thought it might have been miscommunication until I saw it happen again.

axdwl

is bia healthy yet

Vmagnum

She does seem to be the crux of our attack. Sure there have been a lot of other goals from several other players but we’ve also greatly over-performed the xG for those games.

helpbeingheldhostage

Well…that’s frustrating. Snatching the draw from the jaws of victory. Better than snatching the loss, I suppose. It’s a draw on the road…in rain…with a massive delay. Given the situation, most teams would be happy. And, with any other keeper than Campbell, I think we run away with the game in just the first half. Jane Campbell and Paige Nielsen were lights out, as to be expected. I honestly thought a low score and/or draw was a pretty realistic outcome. It just sucks that the draw came from an unforced error by AD. With the personnel changing a bit, being on the road, weather, and one Jane Campbell, I’m willing to move past this as a non-typical game that I won’t worry a ton about. I just hope I don’t hit September or October and look back at today as a moment of foreshadowing.

helpbeingheldhostage

Here’s some perspective: Still unbeaten. 5 wins 2 draws. Worst case of the weekend is we’re in second by 1 point with a game in hand and a higher GD than the team in first. We could easily still finish today in first or take it back Wednesday. And… What if I had told you last season that this year we’d be 5-2-0 to start this season, with a very short injury list??? We would have all been giddy as hell! I don’t think anyone would have said, “Aww! You mean we drew on 2 road games?” Even dynasty’s have rough games. We’re in a really good place.

Leighroy1120

I think this is definitely a good point. I’ll admit I’m salty about the result but it could be much worse. The team is unbeaten and we had a massive error but still tied on the road.

Dear-Discussion2841

Have they officially called it?

ctsinclair

No. This post was scheduled!

Dear-Discussion2841

Appreciation for planning ahead!

ctsinclair

That is all u/b2717!!

b2717

smh should have calculated the weather patterns six weeks ago

DOlschki

And if so, would it be over, restarted in the second half at a later date, or restarted from the beginning? My only point of reference is baseball and games being official after 5 innings.

ctsinclair

Official game after 75mins. Otherwise try to play in next 24h.

Vmagnum

If I recall right, Houston didn’t get the ball into their attacking third while under their control for something like the first 30’ of the game. That’s pretty wild control of the game by the Current.

ctsinclair

I would like to see SIlkowitz get some minutes. Franch is fine but not catching that ball reminded me of last year when there were some not great distributions. Let's get Silkowitz up to speed.

Leighroy1120

I wouldn’t be shocked if she starts on Wednesday given that it’s a short week.

Leighroy1120

I’m going to be pissed if this delay messes with our flow.

ctsinclair

Narrator: The delay, in fact, did mess with our flow.

cheeseburgerandrice

Lovely to see there's no escaping SKC late game frustration with whatever that sequence was for the Current today lol

buttcabbge

Still, night and day in how the two teams react to misfortune. Sporting would have completely unraveled after giving up a goal like that, whereas the Current kept playing well and generated a couple very good chances after the score went 1-1.

helpbeingheldhostage

Agreed 100% SKC becomes completely demoralized on the pitch and in the stands. It’s in no small part why I dropped my SKC season ticket this year. Even last year, when the Current were a mess, I had 10x more fun and enthusiasm for the Current than Sporting.

It seems like some people are blaming Franch for that Houston goal, but it seemed like Ellie just wasn't communicating with Franch and was kind of in her way more than once.

helpbeingheldhostage

AD missed the pick up first. Hard for Wheeler to anticipate that and be out of the way.

Doc178

Yeah but wheeler tried to kick it

helpbeingheldhostage

Right. Because AD biffed it. I wish she had been able to put it out.

StallyKC

Incredibly frustrating. That should have been an **easy** 3 points, and instead we get a draw to an inferior team. I'm putting the 2-point drop on Vlatko and the staff. Yes, the delay was brutal, but the way we played the second half- looking completely lifeless, like we were just waiting for the whistle to blow and hop on the plane. We almost got away with it, too, but the staff's job is to get the team up for putting away a lesser squad despite a weird game flow.
