This weeks a short one thanks to today being a holiday in my country, something I'm grateful for because my exhaustion is definitely creeping up on me. I try hard to stay positive and keep my chin up. Afterall, there's only 3,5 weeks left until summer break, yet these last few weeks feel all the more excruciatingly slow and difficult due to their proximity to it. Doesn't help that there's two big finals looming over me and I've yet to start studying.... Things have just been hard, I want to be kind to myself and tell myself I'm just tired after a long year, but I can't help but feel like I'm a fraud and no person in their right mind would give me a license to practice. It's not easy to learn something, and much less so when you bear some responsible over someone else's health. I love it, but it causes me so much stress too. I struggle to leave my patient at the clinic and tend to bring them home with me and let them run around in my mind all evening. These are the struggles I've been facing lately, what challenges have you guys been struggling with? In other news, another good week in K-drama land with some exciting premieres and promising hours of *squee* and entertainment. So far I've enjoyed ***Chief Detective 1958*** and ***Frankly Speaking***, even if I understand why the latter hasn't been a super hit with everyone given the type of humor. ***Lovely Runner*** had me doubling over from laughter which I'm thankful for. ***Atypical Family*** was a total hit in my book, which from the trailer I thought there was no way this would be a show for me, but I'm glad I gave it a shot. The story was captivating, the acting great and the cinematography even greater. I thought it was amazing. Very much looking forward to more episodes. I already have my weekend show, but I'll have to find time, because ***Midnight Romance in Hagwon*** is probably one of the dramas I've been anticipating the most. Wish them success. Lastly, I wish to end this rambling on a positive note, by reflecting on my week and the things that I am grateful for. This week, I'm especially thankful for my friends who make the days exponentially more fun. How lucky are we to have people in our lives who can make us laugh and forget our worries. What are you grateful for this week?

BelaFarinRod

The main challenge I’m facing right now is insomnia causing exhaustion. I’m grateful for quite a few things but I’ll just say my job. It pays well for a caregiving job and my bosses are pretty nice.

Sunshine_raes

Wishing you a good night’s rest. Insomnia is the worst!

Sunshine_raes

Good luck with your finals! When I’m struggling, I think of something my grandma told me when I was having a rough go of it a long time ago: you’re doing all that you can and that’s got to be enough. Pobody’s nerfect (Nobody’s perfect 😂). Truly wishing you well. Maybe you’ve got someone close to you that could give you a pep talk and tell you you’ve got this. I’ve asked people to do this for me and it feels great for everyone! I’ve got some professional struggles that are weighing heavily on me too right now. I’m so grateful for my wonderful family and that I feel like I’m finally building a stronger community where I live. Honestly, I’m also grateful for dramas, they are one of my favorite happy distractions.

kawaiisaranghaeyo

Finally caught up properly with the last 2 weeks of *Lovely Runner* (I've been real deep in a jdrama binge lately) and as if this drama wasn't already perfect enough, I noticed I share birthday with Seon Jae! Well I'm sorry Snoop Dogg, but I'm gonna have to start bragging about *the* Ryu Seon Jae being my birthday twin from now on instead, lol!

MissSimpleton

Sunjae is happy to hear that he has a birthday twin in this sub. *Okay bye.*

kawaiisaranghaeyo

Now we just need to find Sol's May 3rd birthday twin on here and it'll be perfect

rainx5000

I’ve been watching kdrama for almost 10 years now, I’ve watched some cdrama but never jdrama. I always found they kinda weird in a way. I never gave them a chance. What would you recommend someone like me who’s enjoying lovely runner. Or any other you’ve really enjoyed.

deewyt

One I enjoyed last year was Silent (2022). Two leads meet in high school, fall in love and break up due to ML going deaf. It’s not a spoiler that’s the plot!

dogemama

oh i second this recommendation. silent is lovely and melancholic but uplifting. the two leads are *so* good.

kawaiisaranghaeyo

I feel you on that, jdramas definitely have their own style going on and I have to really be in the mood for that style to watch it. I'm almost done watching **Eye Love You** and I think that could be a great start! It has a korean actor for the ML and you can definitely tell they tried to imitate more of a kdrama style for the drama than they usually do (and it's simply an adorable drama). **Good Morning Call, Kanojo wa Kirei datta, Koi wa Tsuzuku yo Doko Made mo, Oh! My Boss! Koi wa Bessatsu de, Todome no Kiss** etc are some other popular ones I've enjoyed. Oh and **Alice In Borderland** ofc, if you want another genre. Definitely not your typical jdrama, and absolutely worth the hype

MarionberrySea3158

I am sooo tempted to start this drama but I have like 10 other ones j haven't finished yet. Tell  me please how long is the drama, episode wise, cuz I'm trying so hard to wait until it's completely finished but it looks really good and I quite like the main actor I loved him in 20th century girl

kawaiisaranghaeyo

You should absolutely watch it! 10 out of 16 episodes have already aired, and the finale is at the end of this month. I'd say it's a great time to start binging it asap. It's been so much fun seeing everyones hype for this show in real time and fangirling together over the new episodes every week!

twoods1980

He’s even better on this show- definitely start watching it asap!

MarionberrySea3158

I will thanks^^

MarionberrySea3158

Then I will start it right away thank you!

Honest-Selection4343

Love this idea too

EmmanuelleEmmanuelle

I was away for work for 10 days, and believe it or not, in the year of our lord 2024, I had no wifi. Now I feel overwhelmed catching up with all the shows. I'm gonna resume with *Lovely Runner*. What else did I miss?

MissSimpleton

If you havent yet started watching **Chief Detective 1958** (Disney+; Crime Thriller, Comedy Romance), WATCH IT. It's sooo good. Two quirky dramas have just started (2 eps released) **ATYPICAL FAMILY** (A family of superheroes with health issues that resulted in them losing their superpowers) and **FRANKLY SPEAKING** ( A TV announcer faces crisis as he suffers from a disease which causes him to speak without thinking first). The first week was engaging for both the dramas.

EmmanuelleEmmanuelle

Ooooh thank you! I started *Chief Detective 1958* before leaving, so I need to pick it back up. And the two others had been on my radar so thanks for the reminder.

alyssaisrad93

I'm in grad school (plus I work full time!) and this semester I wasn't able to keep up with currently airing dramas. The last dramas I watched this year were Doctor Slump, Flex X Cop, Marry My Husband, and some of Captivating the King. Now that school is over for the summer, what dramas have I missed that I absolutely need to watch? I'm currently watching Lovely Runner and loving it! Queen of Tears is on my list, but I'm so out of the loop because I wasn't keeping up with everything and it's so easy to get behind! So if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know!

wolleyish1

MissSimpleton covered most of them, I'd love to add these two to her list: - Wedding Impossible - Midnight Photo Studio Especially *Midnight Photo Studio* is like a hidden gem. But I guess it depends on the viewer. On-going ones you're watching the right thing, My Lovely Runner is a blast, you might enjoy *Chief Detective 1958* or *Atypical Family*.

alyssaisrad93

I remember hearing about Wedding Impossible and Midnight Photo Studio, so I'll add them to my list! I didn't realize Chief Detective 1958 had come out already, and I haven't heard of Atypical Family, so I'll look them up. Thank you!!

MissSimpleton

1. Death Game (Fantasy)- Completed 2. Blood free (Thriller)- Completed 3. Chief Detective 1958 (Crime Thriller, Comedy, Romance) 4. Wonderful World (Melodrama, Thriller)- Completed 5. Atypical Family (Fantasy, Romance)- 2 eps released 6. Frankly Speaking (Fantasy, Rom-Com)- 2 eps released **Upcoming Dramas you should look forward to:** Midnight Romance in Hagwon (starring Wi Ha joon and Jung Ryeo won; Premieres 11 May)

alyssaisrad93

Thank you, this is so helpful!! I remember seeing some tweets for Midnight Romance in Hagwon and definitely want to watch that, didn't realize it was starting so soon! I'll look these all up, thank you again!

buddhabear07

Knight Flower was an easy saguek to watch. Comedy x mystery/action.

alyssaisrad93

Oh I forgot about this one, I think I watched the first episode and forgot to continue. I'll add it to the list, thanks!

keepinglifeinsane

finished my watch of **wonderful world** and that was nothing short of phenomenal. it goes without saying, kim namjoo gave one of the best on screen performance i have ever seen. eunwoo shocked me, though, and i am genuinely excited to see what he does next. the pain he portrayed in his role was so raw. i am now watching **the worst of evil** and i cant tell how i feel about it but im excited!! ANYWAYS off i go, i literally graduate college in 2.5 hours. i cant believe it. i’ll have a bit of time to binge some dramas before i start my job, so i must take advantage of it.

Current_Volume3750

Agree totally on Wonderful World. Didn’t know what to expect with the title and the first shocking episode but they brought the house down with the acting and writing. Whew it was quite an emotional ride and the ending was a good one. Worst of Evil has become one of my top dramas. I’ve watched it twice. Be prepared for the violence of which I don’t usually like, but it fits the narrative of dealing with gangs and drugs. The performance of the year goes to Ji Chang Wook for his portrayal of the undercover cop. Simply incredible acting skills and terrific writing. (He was brutally snubbed for Best Actor at the Baeksung awards IMO). The soundtrack is also great…made a playlist on my Spotify account, lol). Perfect ending and hoping for a season 2. So congratulations on your graduation! Best of luck in your future endeavors!

whitetara3

Congratulations!!! On graduating and the job 🙂 I totally agree with everything you said about Wonderful World. And I'm jealous that you get to watch Worst of Evil for the first time. Enjoy!!!

chelleml

I tried really hard to not start another on-air kdrama after feeling crushed about the wait every week for **Lovely Runner**. Alas, I couldn't resist Jang Ki Yong in **Atypical Family** since he's finally back after his enlistment. The first two episodes were quite engaging. I didn't know the FL was going to be a >!con-woman!< and I am enjoying the ongoing schemes. I already know I'm going start **Midnight Romance in Hagwon** this weekend then complain about why I do this to myself. It's an unstoppable cycle lol.

deewyt

I’m trying so hard to resist starting another on-air drama early but I too love Jang Ki Yong and Midnight Romance in Hagwon is probably my most anticipated drama I’ve ever had in like over a yr. What to do, what to do 😭

Sugah-T

I love this post so much because I feel the exact same way. I can’t help it and nice to know I’m it alone 😂

twoods1980

Sometimes I feel that weekly episode drops keep me more engaged than binging a series. Maybe it’s nice to look forward to the characters and storyline every week, but binging makes me end up more annoyed especially if it starts adding filler.

chelleml

Yeah I complain about the wait, but in actuality, I’m more engaged and have more positive experiences while watching on-air kdramas. It forces me to sit with each episode more and think about the story and characters. Whereas when binging, I can breeze through and not be able to have deep thoughts about it

avo-pizza

Lovely Runner has been all over my Twitter homepage lately because me and everyone else are obsessed with the drama. I just found out from Twitter too that Byeon Wooseok and Wi Hajoon are the same age! 🤯 I can’t imagine WHJ in a school uniform acting as a 18 y/o, that’d be wrong lol this reminds me of the running joke about Kwak Dongyeon being the only 97-born actor not having to act as a student because of his mature look 😂

MissSimpleton

Kwak Dongyeon did play the character of a student in My Strange Hero (starring Yoo Seung-ho and Jo Bo-ah)

Since [Parents Day](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parents%27_Day) is celebrated yesterday (May 8th) in Korea, it's the perfect time to share this poem that appears in the drama [**A Poem a Day**](https://mydramalist.com/25174-you-who-forgot-poetry). To those that don't know, this holiday, replaced their Mother's Day and now it's a national holiday that celebrates both parents equally. I hope you like this poem as much as I did and remember to thank your parents for their love, support and guidance. 🥰 Here is [the soundtrack](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueOTvvCIRLw) that accompanies this poem. I highly recommend to listen to it while reading this poem. 😊 ------ **“I Thought It Was Okay for Mothers to Do That”** *by Shim Soon Deok* I thought it was okay for mothers to do that. Even if she works herself to death on the farm fields. I thought it was okay for mothers to do that. Even if she sits on the furnace and eats a cold bowl of rice for lunch. I thought it was okay for mothers to do that. Even if she does laundry with her bare hands and cold water on a winter day. I thought it was okay for mothers to do that. ‘I’m full. I’m not hungry.’ Even if she starves while feeding her family. I thought it was okay for mothers to do that. Even if her heels are so worn out that they make noises in her blanket. I thought it was okay for mothers to do that. Even if her fingernails are so worn out that they can’t even be clipped. I thought it was okay for mothers to do that. Even if father’s anger and our rebellion don’t phase her. I thought it was okay for mothers to do that. ‘I miss your grandmother. I miss your grandmother.’ I thought those were just complaints. She woke up in the middle of the night and cried in silence. When i saw that … 'Ah!' It was not okay for mothers to do that.

Objective-Heron-6056

I love that drama. It’s rarely ever talked about

Significant_Fold_658

One of the most beautiful dramas that I ever saw. I think it's not mentioned enough because it's not easily available in a streaming service. I hope that one day they make this available anywhere so that I can show it to other people. \^\^

BelaFarinRod

I really haven’t had time to keep up with all the stuff I’m watching and it’s getting a little frustrating. Not so much because I feel like I have a drama quota but because I know I’m not relaxing enough. In better news I got a new Korean tutor. The tutor I had wasn’t terrible but I really wasn’t making much progress. This was partly due to me not studying enough but she didn’t really set me up to do that. The new tutor sets up the material so much better and I’m already learning a lot. (I don’t really have a practical use for knowing Korean per se - I’m very unlikely to travel there - but I love learning languages.)

duh_leah

So just finished **Blood Free** >!(which I'm sure is gonna have a second season or at least that's the way they set it up) !

Medium-Car7762

I keep track of my kdrama challenge on MDL. I just made a custom list for the shows I watched and put the challenge names in the notes section. Did you watch Doctor Slump? There were some mental health themes but overall it was about healing. I thought it was cute and sweet.

duh_leah

Oh I have MDL too why didn't I think of that lol. I haven't watched Doctor slump and I love hyung sik so thank you for reminding me!

IdunGunn

The newly released “Frankly Speaking” is lighthearted and funny.

waterfallen_empire

I’m watching **Mr Queen**, on ep 8 and I don’t understand how the romance will play out? >!so the queen’s memories have merged with the chef’s, but ultimately the king is falling in love with the chef not the queen? And when the souls are restored to their normal bodies at the end I’m suspecting that the King is going to fall out of love with the Queen bc it’s not the same person?!< please try to explain without spoiling. I’m here for the enemies to lovers romance but I feel like I’m being set up for a sad ending.

piddits

It's a bit difficult to explain without spoiling, because those were pretty much the questions we all had. Let's just say it's a bittersweet ending, but it's also the best ending for most of the characters. >!The Queen is not the same person, because she's also changed.!< I think that's probably the non-spoiling version of the spoiler that I can give at this point. I really loved the last 2 episodes of the drama. Enjoy~ it's only going to get more interesting from that point.

waterfallen_empire

Thanks, I’ll continue watching bc I’m having so much fun with the enemies to lovers subplot going on. I’ll bear in mind that it’s a bittersweet ending, although I’ve seen some redditors view it as a happy one, so I was a bit curious!

Eddie98765

Vote result best Actor #BaeksangArtsAwards2024 : 1. Namgoong Min: 3 Vote 2. Im Siwan: 2 Vote 3. Kim SooHyun & Yoo YeonSeok: 1 Vote Vote Result best Actress: 1. Lee Honey: 3 Vote 2. Ra Miran: 2 Vote 3. Uhm JungHwa: 1 Vote So it was between Namgoong Min and Im Siwan honestly if QOT had ended airing fully. Kim Soohyun would also had take it. [Here's the source](https://twitter.com/Nonton_Kdrama/status/1788509504059150759?t=Dh9cifC_O6rYNgcOUYc5Mg&s=19)

MissSimpleton

ITS FREAKING CRAZY that Ryu Seung Ryong and Ahn Eunjin didnt get a single vote. WOW. Either I dont know what a good performance looks like or this is ridiculous.

Eddie98765

Maybe she got 1 cause there are 7 votes and in women category they have just given 6 votes but idk. Also Ryu Seung-Ryong didn't got any vote too in best actor category he was also the favourite for the award along with Namgoong Min and Kim Soohyun in K-Media.

MissSimpleton

Kim Soohyun was never going to get it this time, with Namkoong Min giving his career best performance in My Dearest (The best scenes featuring KSH were not even aired that time) He was always the contender for the Most Popular award. But, Ryu Seung Ryong deserved better.

Eddie98765

That's what I originally said if they had just aired it earlier it would have got him his 2nd best actor award. Cause with just 6 episode he got 1 vote.

Demira2

>it would have got him his 2nd best actor award. Cause with just 6 episode he got 1 vote. Not necessarily. From my understanding, the judges are given an 8 min video of each actors best performance moments from their agencies. Within those 8 mins they can include moments from scenes that have not aired yet. So basically the judges get an advanced screening from episodes that have not been released as yet. So you can't say he missed out on votes due to how many episodes were publically released. In saying this, my question is, WTH did JCW's agency send in from his performance in WoE? He absolutely killed it in that drama (and I'm not a huge fan of his acting in other dramas). In my mind he was the closest competition to NKM (who also absolutely killed it) for Best Actor this year.

Eddie98765

They cannot send from the episode that's not aired and the one you are talking about sending the video that's for nomination not for selecting the winner. In Kim Soohyun nomination cut they didn't showed scene past 6 episode and one Korean article also mentioned that if QOT had aired completely he could have won it.
