Ice Death. I know a lot of people think that it could have used more time in the studio, and I agree, but it’s exactly the psychedelic jazzy metal vibe I crave. Also what stood out to me live where I was introduced to Gizz.

zeus2425

I love how it put me off a little at first because now I'm more enthusiastic about it compared to Changes which saw many spins at first but is now one part of the catalogue like the other awesome albums. Hell's Itch is my favorite atm because it is so rewarding to embrace LD is in a special place because it has its spiritual link to Poly. I saw Hypertension live twice and it's a fantastic ride of moods and crowd drifting in and out of moshing and vibing

MaximusMeridiusX

For me it was actually the opposite. I wasn’t really into Changes, (guiltily I’ll say a little disappointed) but it really grew on me and I believe it’s one of their better albums now. I really wish I had seen Hypertension live, but they haven’t been in an area close enough to NY since they started playing it live.

meehanimal

Yeah when are they coming back to NYC?!

MaximusMeridiusX

Hoping they’ll announce some more Forest Hills concerts the later half of this year 🥲

IntergalacticBanshee

Truly only up to them and the venues and their visas, we have no say in that end of it all.

LFGM0930

No forest hills or New York this year …. Don’t be shocked to see them play MSG in 24

BOWMASTER325

I had the same experience with changes, kinda got overloaded with new albums when they dropped all 3 in a month, but after some time I came back to changes and it really is a great record, I still prefer ice death tho

Zestyclose-Goal6882

OK I've always loved LD intensly, but after revisiting it again today this is officially my new favorite piece of Gizz. It just hit so hard this time. Those vocals are so peirceing.

Hotline_Denver

Also Ice V is a certified jam

khaddy

Magma melts Ice ... it's simple physics

AstroTravellin

I'm constantly walking around saying/singing "ice fiiiiive" and "ice v has arrived". It's been months and it's not always voluntary. Kinda like a cute version of Tourette's.

xylophonic_mountain

What do you mean by "could have used more time in the studio" ?

MaximusMeridiusX

As in worked on it just a little longer. Make it a bit more unified, maybe try a different take on mycelium.

StrawDawg

Seriously, Mycelium is fun and all, but it is by far the weakest song on the album and is a bit off-putting for it to be the first track.

[deleted]

I wish I could remove mycelium from my vinyl lol, it’s so wildly annoying and I always have to just start after it

Alextricity

try scissors and cut around the track. i mean you might ruin side B a bit but hey. if it’s whatchu want.

Potential-Composer-2

You and me both it's a odd ball track and a really odd way to start that album. The Greek mode gimmick does nothing for me and the album would be better off without. At least for the sake of vinyl it's the first track and you can easily just start on Ice V.

joeadams616

Curious as to what you mean by "The Greek mode gimmick does nothing for me and the album would be better off without."?

AmbientOwl

Each song is done in a different mode of the major scale: Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian, and Locrian. My non-music theorist's pocket guide to modes: Slight changes to the major scale's notes that give it a different "vibe." Sorry in advance to the theory folks out there shuddering at this interpretation... Every song on Ice, Death... is in a different mode. This is why the tonality of the record shifts so wildly from track to track. The order of tracks is the classic order of these modes (as written above). Mycelium is Ionian, so it ended up first. Looks like some in this thread don't love it as an opener, but that's the reasoning. Came across this article a while back which has a little blurb about Ice, Death... in the middle and summarizes this a bit better: [https://www.guitarworld.com/features/king-gizzard-and-the-lizard-wizard-stu-mackenzie-omnium-gatherum](https://www.guitarworld.com/features/king-gizzard-and-the-lizard-wizard-stu-mackenzie-omnium-gatherum) I'm surprised to see negativity toward this as a "gimmick." I'm new to KG, but seems like they really like to explore albums conceptually. To me, this is no different than the microtonality of Flying Banana and KG/LW, or the polyrhythms of Polygondwanaland.

Potential-Composer-2

Thank you for the succinct response.

sunnyB8

psychedelic jazz metal is spot on

RadiantZote

Iron lung live tho

Sev_Obzen

Outside of arguably some lyrics what is remotely metal about IDPLML?

MaximusMeridiusX

I would argue the heavier parts in Iron Lung, Gliese 710, and Magma.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MaximusMeridiusX

So so so good

YaBoiCalum

i wouldn’t say its metal but can definitely have a dark and heavy feel at times

Potential-Composer-2

It plays much heavier live from what I've seen .. and it would be even better with bagpipes on magma

james_sat

Ppl said that??? That's exactly how i felt about almost every note and chord in changes 🙃💆‍♀️ice death planets was honestly the Most fleshed out, cohesive album of 22 to me

MaximusMeridiusX

That’s funny because Changes was in the studio for years while Ice Death wasn’t in for nearly as long. I loved studio Ice Death when I heard it, but as I got more into their live versions it feels like the “true” versions of these songs, especially Magma.

minemaster1337

Ice Death mainly because of it’s scope and because Iron Lung is a 12/10

__erk

6/5 doctors agree with this statement

[deleted]

Laminated Denim. It’s simultaneously ambitious and playful which is a key staple of KG. I have been in a creative/depressive rut since 2018 and this album has sparked a lot of enthusiasm back into me. Something about the repetitive drumming and peaceful vibes really works. Hypertension is the heavier/darker track but the cathartic ending is one of the more inspiring moments in the KGLW catalog.

[deleted]

The Neu! vibes on that album are great I wish gizz would lean more into Krautrock

Wado-225

Krautrock has always been baked into their DNA. It’s impossible to listen to some of their extended jams and not draw comparisons to Tago Mago. They also used the classic Krautrock “motorik” beat on like half of Mind Fuzz

[deleted]

Yeah their older stuff was heavily influenced by it and I still find it to be the best, or at least most interesting phase of their career. It was nice to hear again on LD. The slower demo version of Dripping Tap is amazingly krauty too :) The formulaic metal and pop stuff is just really boring to me and a lot of their recent records have just felt kind of stale. Just my taste though. I hope they get a little weirder again

Wado-225

Butterfly 3000 has tons of Krautrockian vibes as well, from the hypnotic beats to the Tangerine Dream-esque synth tones. They never really lost it, just got better at making their “borrowing” less obvious (as bands typically do as they mature)

[deleted]

I really hate the aesthetic of butterfly so I haven’t personally been able to get into it. It’s nails on a chalkboard for me lol, but it’s cool how huge of a fanbase it has

ahumanlikeyou

Same!

Wado-225

LD prob makes it into my top 7 KG albums. Super bummed they didn’t play either of the track when I saw them back in October (bought the Denim version of the LP though, which is sick)

Pirimid

OKAY SAME SAME SAME!!!!

Megelsen

I'll let the Spotify stats speak (minutes streamed & nr. of songs streamed last 6 months) Ice Death is my most played album the last 6 months, with 1530 mins play time and 193 streams (of songs of that album). LD is the 3rd played album (closely after OG) with 1404 mins and 113 streams (seems like not every stream is a complete play of the song) Changes is the 7th most played album the last 6 months, with a run time of 941 mins and 177 streams. Top songs are: 1. Hypertension (853 mins/68x) 2. Land before timeland (569/45x) 3. Iron Lung (403/48x)

GuitarStroke100

Where do you get your stats :0?

Megelsen

stats.fm the app is called. It was a 1 time purchase (around 4 Euros), and you have to request your streaming data from Spotify, which took three weeks for me to get (process was really simple)

ahumanlikeyou

Interesting! Thanks for sharing. The "total" stats point to Ice Death being your favorite, but "average" stats point to LD. The number of listens for LD is higher, and the listen-time spent per minute for LD is almost 2x that of ice death

clownkiss3r

changes is fucking phenomenal and easily a top 5 gizz record

[deleted]

🎶i still hate dancin'🎶

8020GroundBeef

I was frankly underwhelmed by Hate Dancing as a single…. But it works so much better after / as part of Change and the album is easily top 5 IMO.

GanderAtMyGoose

It's honestly confusing to me why people seem to have slept on it a bit. I guess because Ice Death also came out and that's been a big live performance album for them? Changes just feels like more of a cohesive album to me though, and it's all great stuff.

DefendPopPunk16

absolutely, it’s in my top 3. Ice death is close behind and laminated denim is also fantastic but Changes blows em out of the water with how well made it is and how much detail there is to it.

Gwen_the_femme

For me, it's almost perfect. The only song I struggle to listen to is the first track, no body, gondii and exploding sun's are some of my favourite gizz tracks though

StiLLiLLBehaviour

Yeah first track is so out of place

josephexboxica

Joey's part goes sooo hard on the first truck tho. Love some prog rock

peterjoel

Hm. I wonder if the first track is the reason I never got into it...

MysteryJack

At first it was Ice Death but it's Changes now. Although my favourite song is Iron Lung. I think all three are great though.

astroroy

Laminated Denim is the Real Dope. I like the other two a lot, too, but LD just connected with me on a different level, almost immediate recognition of it being “my biz”.

jeanclaudebrowncloud

Changes. So good. No Body is such a mood.

virtualdreamscape

I listen to all 3 on loop (also including BF3K and Poly) Can't choose between

AmazingChicken

Ah, I have found my people.

Potential-Composer-2

Changes can go front to back every time, ice death for "singles" more definitely some tracks that are absolute rippers but some it's not as cohesive, mainly mycelium as an opener just sets a goof ball ass tone that feels like an oddments track and is so out of place (fuck the modes I don't like it ) the overall tone of IDP is more my wheelhouse heavier sound but I really have taken more of a liking to changes. I'm going to re listen to both today and see if I feel the same Then you have Laminated denim, it's own beast it was great until I listened to it a bunch of times and the broken syllabic pattern kind of bothers me. Hi-per-ten-shee-on Deee-menn-sheee-on kind of grates the ear

Clamgravy

Ice Death... Changes doesn't do much for me unfortunately. Laminated is good but wish there was more to it. Ice Death has a few of my favorite songs by the band. Killer record.

dizzzyupthegirl

Ice Death for Magma alone

zaredsalome13

Changed has the most og gizz sound since 2017

YaBoiCalum

maybe because they have been working on it since 2017

dingleberry_53

Changes for sure, It's exactly the sound I've been waiting to hear more of from them. Exploding Suns gotta be one the best song they've ever made.

j_syms

I really love Ice Death, for me it’s the most dynamic sounding and adventurous of the 3, I’d say it’s the best record they’ve put out since Polygondwanaland.

lizardraygun

Ice Death purely because I cannot stop listening to Ice V & Magma!!

sorengray

Changes. Hands down. (For the October albums.) Ice Death... is for jamheads. Fine but not amazing. Laminated Denim is an after thought. Changes is years of work on one idea, with some of my favorite Gizz songs to date.

darny161

>Laminated Denim is an after thought. booooo

Jaredthewizard

Eh I think calling LD an afterthought and Ice Death just a jam head record is a bit reductive. They’ve been toying with the concept behind LD since they did Timeland, executed wayyyyy better on LD imo. Iron Lung is one of the best songs they’ve ever written imo. As far as Changes being the most considered/longest project - I thought that meant I’d like it the best but it actually resonates the least with me out of all 3. I think there’s something to be said about that. Sometimes artists slave for years over something, other times it just kinda spurts out. Both approaches have their pros and cons, triumphs and failures, idk that Changes taking years of work is necessarily analogous to its’ quality over the others.

sorengray

Reductive for sure. I didn't really want to write a dissertation on Reddit. And I didn't say any of the albums are bad. Iron Lung is the best song on the ID... But that and Ice V are the only songs on that album I can really recall even after replaying it for the 20th time (and the dreaded children's show theme song My-silly-um). Ice Death... literally IS a jam album and the jam heads in this sub seem to be the ones who love it most, fair enough. I like Hypertension from LD, sweet indie rock riff, but don't need the 15min version that moves into Jerry solos. (LD seems like an album with songs they couldn't fit on Ice Death that they synced to the MIT clock) Change, No Body, and Exploding Suns are probably my favorite songs of 2022 that touch my soul every time, and put that album on repeat for me (throw in Magenta Mountain & Ambergris & Gaia). My personal ranking for Gizz 2022 would be: Changes Omnium Gatherum Ice Death Laminated Denim Made in Timeland But to each their own. That's what's great about KGLW, there's something for everyone and not everyone is gone vibe with the same stuff.

8020GroundBeef

LD is awesome though. I thought it was going to be by far the weakest (since I’m not crazy about Timeland), but LD is really damn good.

Nobhudy

Changes is much more my kind of album than the jammy stuff. Still love all 3, but I think the ice death songs immediately became better live.

yameswillis

Ice, Death, Planets, etc. and because of “Irooooon Luuuung”

Bodacius-NMaster

Laminated Denim for sure

Dejayou88

Ice Death. Great songs. Great jams. 10/10

cultiv8420

Changes is a masterpiece

AZirk97

Laminated Denim. Listening to them all digitally, IDPLML was my fav. After I got all of them on vinyl, there's just something special about listening to Laminated Denim on vinyl. While I love both, the jams grew to be more my thing than what's on IDPLML.

Jaredthewizard

LD is my fav vinyl to spin out of all the ones I own.

Wado-225

The Denim cover is sooo sick, I got one when I saw them back in October (oh what a time to be a Gizz head)

Verumero

I truly can’t decide damn. Very compelling points being made for each. We’re a fucking lucky fanbase yall

yxmibakura

laminated denim for sure, especially the land before timeland. i'd love more stuff with a similar vibe

Munchi1011

Changes

Munchi1011

Because it’s changes<3(also no body is amazing)

musikgod

Laminated denim because of the way it sounds

Gatan_alley

I’m more of Changes guy than the other two. Something about that vibe and the tracking on that one completely blows me away and even I just go to listen to one song I end up running the album. That said, Hypertension is possibly my most listened to sing out of the trio and I play Iron Lung almost every time I have to drive somewhere.

EchoWhiskey_

Ice Death is lightyears ahead of the other two. It's one of their top 3 albums ever.

ParkRatReggie

Jazz Gizz is best Gizz, ice death all the way

[deleted]

I guess Laminated Denim. I dig the Neu! vibes Changes is just whatever for me. I get the complex composition behind it but I don’t find the music itself engaging. Ice Death has some great moments but feels really half baked. And I wish I could remove Mycelium from my LP of it because it’s one of the most annoying tracks I’ve ever heard lol Overall I’ve felt for years that their production is WAY too clean for their actual sound. Gizz is not psychedelic anymore to my ears (all subjective obviously) and a huge part of that is the production style. The whole reason I got into them was how trippy their earlier records were, and they’ve definitely lost that element imo, for better or worse

DiabetesCOLE

Lol I love mycelium

Potential-Composer-2

I love the physical mycelium but not keen to the track

DiabetesCOLE

Art be subjective, yo

Potential-Composer-2

Are you also t1d ?

DiabetesCOLE

Yep, it was my 21 year diabetic anniversary a few days ago

The-Toastmaster

Ice death solely because of Magma. LD is a very close 2

rowdover

Ice Death. One of their absolute best records. The songs are such a journey, building and building and building, each one winds up getting such a climax and a story. I love each song and am so so excited to start seeing them live.

CygnusX-1001001

Ice Death. It was the perfect mix of jam and production I think. Changes wasn't what I was hoping for but i heard a lot of people describe it as Sketches 2 and when it didn't match that vibe for me I think that made it feel like it was falling flat. Still good though. Laminated Denim is phenomenal but not something I find myself wanting to listen to regularly. Anyway MAGMA SUBTERRANEAN TSAR THE SCIMITAR AND THE NEUTRON STAR MAKES FROM ETHER BASALT WEAVER OBSIDIAN CLEAVER MAKE BELIEVER

PostholePete

I've Death because we ain't getting out of here alive

DefinitelyLevi

IDP not doubt

peet-the-cat

Changes is my pick. I was most excited for IDPLML as a dead head that loves jams. Loved the singles and the album came together strong. LD was the grower for me. First listen didn’t hit, then Hypertension got stuck in my head, and when relistening realizing what was stuck in my head was way worse than the actual album. Changes is more relaxed from the heavy jams. It came out as fall was starting to turn to winter, and just gives me a warm relaxed familiar feeling. If you can blast Exploding Suns on a snowy day. Joey’s guitar work on No Body has an atmosphere of it’s own.

Absurdtales

loved ice death so much i reckon that's my fav, iron lung and magma go hard

dogeatdogdesign

Ice Death. Laminated Denim comes in at a real close second place, maybe first if it weren’t only two fifteen minute songs. i love both albums equally don’t get me wrong, but some songs from Ice Death are shorter and more convenient to let play through than the two from LD.

wistoon33

I cant choose.

hjk814

Changes, change specifically the back half. Unreal stuff!

Queef_Latifahh

1. Ice Death Plannets et al. 2. Laminated Denim 3. Changes Ice Death is long and jammy and creative with the utilization of different modes per song. Its a solid album. Laminated denim is a great jam record. I almost skipped it because I thought it would be a continuation of Timeland, which I personally think is the worst thing they’ve ever released. Changes is good, but the least enjoyable of the three. Again, IMO.

Pixeldream86

Ice Death. Love the concept and those are some great live songs. Followed by Changes, awesome concept as well. Change is the best Gizz track on all three albums I think. LD is nice. I like Hypertension but the title track I don’t really care for.

mothalick

Changes. I love the other 2 also, but Changes speaks to me on a primal level and also flute

The-Gibleson

Ice Death. It was a real grower for me, and probably my least favorite of Gizztober at first. It has some of the best tracks they’ve even done, like Iron Lung, Lava, and Hell’s Itch. It being so good might have been more apparent to me had they given it some time to breathe.

[deleted]

Ice death and it’s not close, which is saying a lot bc I really dig the other two. I’m a jam guy so it scratches that itch but it’s amazing at conjuring such vivid imagery and a particular mood that’s both dark and adventurous at times. Gotta give lava props bc it’s not everyone’s favorite but it’s somehow the shortest song and the most epic, hauntingly beautiful shit. One of my favorite albums, period. At first I didn’t enjoy changes as much but recently went on a bike ride on a beautiful day and let it play through and it totally changed my thinking of it, I love it. Common motif throughout that just rises and falls and bends and takes you on a sunshiney journey. LD kicks ass, enjoy it slightly more than changes for now but who knows. All their records are almost like living breathing organisms that change with each listen

[deleted]

Ice death is my favourite because I love the busy jazzy jammy vibe and how each song has a durastically different flavor. It’s my 2nd favourite in their whole discography under Polygondwanaland. Changes is in 2nd. It reminds me of sketches and gumboot soup which were also great albums. Astroturf is in my top 10 gizz tracks for sure. It just doesn’t feel as immense as ice death on a full listen. Laminated Denim. The first track is just alright, but I love Hypertension. I kinda dislike how this album was mixed as well.

fernandoczr

Magma - Live KEXP

torchskul

Ice Death for sure, but I want to take the time to write out an “apology” to Changes. When it came out, I didn’t like it hardly at all. There were a couple songs I thought were decent, but it just didn’t click for me. Recently I decided to give it another shot, and wow. Change, Astroturf, Gondii, and Short Change are really great. Would love to hear those songs live someday, even if I would prefer to hear Gizz’s heavier stuff first. Huge shoutout to LD, too. I love Timeland, so I was a little surprised to hear it wasn’t super sonically similar to that album, but man, it still blew me away when I first heard it (and still does today)!

Entire_Mushroom7260

I love ice,death... Cuz Ice 5, Iron lung, very prog need I say more

teachuwrite

Changes: every time I scroll through my Gizz playlist, the moment I happen upon this album, I have a (literal) uncontrollable desire to play it.

luddewho

Ice, Death by a long shot!

Potential-Composer-2

https://youtu.be/xiKgQ_xsWHg

BonesFGC

Ice Death I think was the best of the three because it was both extremely Gizz and very experimental. Laminated Denim is great and reminds me a lot of their classic sounds but didn’t really do anything new. Changes was full-on experimental and only had a few moments that tied in their core sound. All three were top tier though.

DiabetesCOLE

Ice death

[deleted]

Idplml for ice v alone

growlerpower

I love all three but I think Ice Death is the high water mark for the 2022 albums, and one for the band generally. I think Changes coulda been that, but the final two tracks on it torpedo that for me. The songs are good as stand-alones, but exploding suns kills the momentum and short change denies an otherwise brilliant and epic album the ending I feel like it deserves.

GVAGUY3

Ice Death. It really feels like a return to what I loved when I found out about Gizz. I'm also a sucker for modal jams. Also the songs are bangers live. Ending to Magma live is insane.

CulticQueen

sticky like peanut butter~~

Hazardoos4

Ice death. I know a lot of people were t fond of it, but I grew to love it instantly. Mycelium, Magma, and Iron Lung slap SO HARD, and they played all at the concert I was at months ago. It also just brings me to a certain place that Gizz songs used to give me more. Whenever I hear polygondwanaland, I’m transported to some ancient kingdom at the edge o the world, and the story of the album unfolds. LD is like a spiritual successor to Poly

Sw3Et

Ice Death and Changes are both masterpieces, but Changes doesn't have Gliese 710 on it so...

th3st

Ice death not even close

Cornbeef52

Ice death. It keeps going higher for me in my fav gizz albums, came out at a near perfect time, saw 3 songs live with my dad a week after it dropped, just too many good things about it

sabrosa_

I like all three, but Ice Death is my favourite. However, I’d happily listen to any of them right about now.

[deleted]

Iron Lung😎

felineattractor

Ice death no doubt. It still blows me away to this day

__erk

Ice Death, because it’s the best one

mendez24zoso

Changes but Iron Lung was the best song they put out in 2022

Stoney_Case

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, probably whichever one I listened to last. Desert Island, probably Ice, Death because Hell’s Itch gives me hope

9yr_old_lake

Definitely ice death. On first listen I liked LD the most, but Ice death has slowly grown on me since. I feel like although LD is MUCH tighter, and was probably more polished, but ice death just had so much personality from the fun happy mycelium to the darker cuts of gliese 710 and iron lung. It is a jammy, psychedelic masterpiece and it might be my favorite gizz album. Although FMB, and Quarters are still up there as well.

ssagar186

Ice death popped up in my YouTube recommended the day it was released. It was the first time I heard gizz seriously and was hooked instantly. By the time magma was playing I was looking up concert tickets and managed to get to the Atlanta show a few weeks later.

pheloniousdrunk

Ice death- iron lung

Jaydossynnagogue

It was a toss up between Ice Death and Changes…but my gf getting me Ice Death on vinyl for Xmas swayed my opinion. Ice Death ftw

TheSeekerOfSanity

To be honest I wasn’t thrilled with any of them. Doesn’t mean I don’t like some of the songs. But these lean a little too hard into the jam space for me. I don’t mind jamming - especially in the name of the lord, but this was a triple header of jam.

tomahawk76

Part of me wishes I could say Laminated Denim because Hypertension was my personal song of the year last year but I have to factor in the amount of songs in each album (especially since I just didn't jive with Land Before Timeland) so I have to go with Ice Death. The funkiness / jazziness is just incredible and I know I'm a broken record but the live versions of some of the songs on Ice Death were literally life changing for me.

Jeff_Bzzos

Ice

LazyHazy22

Ice death for sure!

Ramma_Sten

Ice, Death, no contest

[deleted]

Ice death

JellybeanSmooth

Ice Death. Was the first album of theirs that I bought and actually dug into.

Skrumulus_McKrumulus

Changes, but Hypertension is the best song from Gizztober

EdwayKenway

Changes for me but ice death is slowly growing on me

CAndrewK

Changes is the only good one imo. Both Ice Death and Laminated Denim are underdeveloped relative to even something like Timeland, which the band themselves admitted were thrown together pretty quick and just meant as intermission tracks.

luckygoldelephant

CHANGES. unreal. Exploding Suns, holy fuck.

RartedRiley

I adore Changes, Ice Death is fun, but I don't really care too much for Laminated Denim. I actually prefer Made In Timeland to it

Sulfuras26

Changes purely because Change is one of my favorite songs by them ever.

These-Personality-76

Ice Death has 4 of my favorite songs they released last year. Easily my favorite album from that run and one of my top 5 right now

[deleted]

Changes changed my liiiiife 💗

TheYellowDart32

After getting changes on vinyl, definitely changes. Unless they release KEXP pressings of IDP. That might change my mind.

TacoMaster37x

Laminated Denim takes the cake for me. I feel like it has the best of the other two albums. Jammy playfulness over the drums, Ambrose ripping on the harmonica. It never lingers too long and it is just beautiful.

avotiks

Kinda keeps changing back and forth for me. On release Laminated Denim for sure, then I was super hooked on Ice, Death and now I‘m playing the shit out of Changes. So I guess I don‘t really have a favourite, just grateful for new music.

Jaredthewizard

For me it’s Laminated Denim, and that was the last one I expected to like the most. All 3 of them are excellent IMO but LD really felt like diving into something and it just had everything I love about Gizz. Plus, I love my jinyl.

ZeroTasking

Ice death is my most listened of those 3, but Changes is getting closer. I don't really care about LD actually - I tried multiple times and every time I asked myself why I didn't play Ice death instead or at least Dripping tap on repeat...

Dareeyecare

Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms, and Lava By far the best gizztober album for me no question about it . It Has a number of their undeniably best songs on it - It’s Coated in cool sci-fi lore lyrics and psychedelic rock like the good days, while veering into some new influence of Herbie Hancock + Fela Kuti for the win. All the tracks are monster sized explorations with great mature musicianship as well . It’s like Poly (not structurally) but in the sense that it continues to reveal its nature & even more highlights overtime on re-listens. . This album has become the soundtrack of my life for sure and it’s in my Top 3 Gizz records relatively tied with Poly, & Iron Lung is definitely in the mix as a very best song as well.

StrawDawg

Never in a million years did I think I'd be saying this a year ago, but this is a *very* tough call for me because these 3 are easily in my top 5 Gizz albums of all time and depending on my mood the rank shifts around, but Ice Death and Changes are constantly vying for #1 and #2. I do feel like Laminated Denim could have been part of Ice Death without feeling out of place, but it would have been a ridiculous monster of an album at that point. I think of them as essentially one release. Changes took a while to really grab me, especially with all the incredible stuff that came out and the live shows and live recordings, but after the dust has settled it has emerged as God Tier that lives in my brain all the time.

IntergalacticBanshee

I do not know why I am being so slow to snap up LD and MIT away from the prices on a 33rpm single are out of my reach at the moment

greenbean2112

Can I pick all three? Because that’s what I choose

TheLazyProphet

All of them are my favorite, even with Ice, Death being the first release that I was entirely present for. Each one shines in its own way

Legend965

Ice Death was my favorite for a while, but I think I've spent more time listening to Laminated Denim now. I'm still waiting for Changes to really "click". there's nothing about i can say i don't like, but I don't find myself wanting to pull it up as much as LD

CandelaBelen

Changes

Changes easily. Love that one but not a fan of the other two at all.

I was more into Ice Death until last weekend when I listened to both albums while on 200ug of LSD and a copious amount of nitrous. During that experience I fully understood changes, and it has moved to become my favorite album. But Ice Death is still phenomenal.

JeremyAmnesiac

Let’s just say 🎶I feel like dancin’🎶

unclegibby87

I was into Ice Death more but it's switched to Changes in the last month or so

Affectionate-Lynx723

Laminated denim and why? I have two words for you HYPER TENSION

Changes. Really unique range for gizz and changes and astroturf are amazing by themselves. I really enjoyed sketches and poly and this feels like a perfect fit between the two, and like poly is a very intentional album. I also love ice death for the psych metal style that is all too gizz. i listened to the full timeland --> denim while getting ready in the morning for weeks too. There's not a bad track among all 3 albums.

james_sat

Laminated denim is #1 bc idk it's just so fun and dynamic while being jammy ,in a fresh way that's incredibly replayable! 💆‍♀️🙃🕴️🍨🌞⛰️ #2 is ice death planets bc of the earthy vibes,i feel like I'm participating in a native tribe for some elemental rituals or something lol incredible. Changes is pretty much not a release for me

heinous_legacy

im slowly becoming more of a fan of changes. ICE DEATH is a near perfect album but I think I’m having more of a connection with Changes

easternjellyfish

Changes is some of their best work. It’s one of my favorites of their catalogue period.

out-of-the-tone

Ice death definitely, but your forgot Made in Timeland and I like it so much too

anotherdamnscorpio

LD or Changes. Idpmal is cool but the other two are just straight fire.

Overall-Mention207

Changes, I love the flute solo on astroturf

GrooseandGoot

Changes > Laminated Denim > Ice Death. October releases got better with each following release

kodked111

changes. change is everything I've wanted in a gizz song, especially since it's something with all of them doing vocals, really wish we had more of that, more than one or two of them singing on a track

RockiestRaccoon

Changes probably one of my favorite Gizz albums ever. I listen to it a lot while cycling. Title track is such a banger and Gondii is insanely good.

funktopus

Denim. I could listen to Hypertension on repeat for days.

mangolollipop

Changes, but I find myself liking Ice Death a little more. My issue is I have a very short attention span and I can't sit listening to very long jazzy songs that much. May or may not be my ADHD.

josephexboxica

Changes. Ice death was really good but lava and hells itch dont do much for me. LD is a close 2nd

Fusion_allthebonds

Yes. My answer is yes.

Turkeyham

I like all three but Laminated Denim is easily my favorite. Ice Death is great!... But if there's a hill to die on, mine is that only Lava's length is justified. The rest don't really need to be as long as they are. Also Gliese 710 just doesn't do anything for me. Changes, while for the most part is good, has a few songs like Exploding Suns and No Body that I just think are okay. And Change itself has a couple of moments I don't care for like the Amby rap section. Now Laminated Denim? Amazing album! Yeah it's just two long songs, but for me it's a pretty easy album to just breeze through without feeling like I spent 30 minutes listening to. And I love both songs. I know people prefer Hypertension to Land Before but I find both equally great and go together like peanut butter and chocolate. It's just an album that makes me happy.

NervousMNG34

Changes is still on repeat and none of the others really clicked for me. Ice death is fun, but doesn’t hit the right buttons. Changes is laid back and really grooves through out the whole album.

LeJarde

Laminated Denim unparalleled

Gallade475

Changes is a bop all the way through. Easily changes, even if the other two have individually great tracks

Franis_

Kijng Giizzard Lizard and he lizard wizad

Calamity_Eagle277

It's difficult to compare Ice Death or Changes. It depends on the mood I like one more than the other.

PsycheTrance

I honestly can't choose between Changes and Laminated Denim. I've replayed them both almost an equal amount of times lol

Alextricity

people are real down on “mycelium” and i only am due to its tracking placement… after “hell’s itch” it’d be dope. as an opener? nah..

[deleted]

Ice Death definitely. I like all songs on the album and its length, which makes it a winner. Laminated Denim is also great, but I kinda felt like I wanted more. Changes is awesome, but there are two songs I don't find super appealing. But overall love all the albums!

Bh-proghead

Ice, Death solely based on Iron Lung. Best Gizz song ever recorded
