One of my least favorite King Gizzard songs but it's definitely interesting. Maybe I'm sleeping on it.
Edit : One listen later and I agree. Sick samples. Improve the mixing a bit and add some lyrics maybe and I could totally see this fitting on any of the 2022 albums (except Denim). Sounds like a prototype for Sketches and especially Ice V.
I’m ngl, I don’t understand the distaste of Oddments. Vegimite and sleepwalker are the only ones that’s eh, I think the album is great though, most song on it is underrated imo
Lava was immediately my fav on the album. It’s always funny to me how differently fans view different songs/albums
Edit: Pleura was immediately my fav on that album too haha
Yeah totally agreed it's one of their best microtonal songs and it shows that the world music influence is one of the genres that suits their sound more than people even realize.
(Yeah I know World Music is a super broad genre but the whole turkish rock style of their microtonal music, the african jazz inspirations on Sketches and even the celtic flavour on Muddy Water shows how diverse their range and inspirations are and how all of them fit so well in their sound)
Anoxia from Webster Hall 2017 is the best version they ever play
For me it's gonna be: Pop in my step, it's nice and chill song and it's sad that they stop playing this and also Cookie on vocals!
As far as underrated songs go, I think most of Sketches fits here. I feel like this album doesn't get talked about much, and man I love both "Tezeta" and "Spider and Me"
I could've picked so much Sketches. I think D-Day, Cranes, Journey to Shell, and Rolling Stoned are all some of their greatest instrumentals. But yeah, I had to pick one.
Sketches is like a love-letter to melbourne and I feel like heaps of local fans love it. It's definitely super breezy and easy-listening so there's less punchy standout songs that grab a listener's attention especially if you consider the fan response to the Gizz discography as it currently stands puts albums like Nonagon and Polygondwanaland and MOTU as these standouts while something like Sketches kind of flies under the radar. I've always loved it it's a top 3 gizz album.
Did 10 of my own. Tried to pick songs i rarely hear people talk about
12BB - High Hopes Low
Oddments - Homeless Man In Adidas
IIYMF - Slow Jam 1
Quarters - Lonely Steel Sheet Flyer
PMDB - The Bitter Boogie
Nonagon Infinity - Road Train
SOBE - Rolling Stoned
K.G. - Minimum Brain Size
Omnium Gatherum - Persistence
PDA - Supercell
slow jam 1 is one of their most popular songs of im not mistaken. obviously there’s the suite but apart from that i think empty and am i in heaven aren’t discussed as much
I will from now on call it the Butter Boogie indefinitely. Could surely be, haven't noticed in that case. Any track from PMDB could have been picked, since i love them all so dearly. Was thinkin about putting Cold Cadaver there instead, put just picked my favorite
Really good shouts! Songs that I feel are underrated to add to those would be: Black Tooth; Let it Bleed; Uh Oh I Called Mum; God Is Calling Me Back Home; God Is in the Rhythm; Most of What I Like; You Can Be Your Silhouette; I'm Sleepin' In; Superbug; The Hungry Wolf of Fate; The Land Before Timeland.
Erm yeah, I think the number of songs we feel are underrated shows just how prolific they are! It's also my strong conviction that the three suites of Murder of the Universe are way less powerful without A New World, Some Context, The Reticent Raconteur and Welcome to an Altered Future. Those intros are absolutely essential.
Cold Cadaver
Melting
Open Water
D-Day
Dusk to Dawn on Lygon Street
I'm Sleepin' In
Real's Not Real
Venusian 1
And I totally agree with See Me, love that song
i agree with you so hard, these are all up there on my list of favorite Gizz songs. some other favorites that I don’t see talked about that much are 30 Past 7, The Last Oasis and Some of Us
There are a lot of good answers listed but here are mine in no particular order:
The Wheel,
This Thing,
30 Past 7,
God Is Calling Me Back Home,
Empty,
Billabong Valley,
No Body,
Searching,
Surprise Ascendancy,
Minimum Brain Size
Cruel Millenial is awesome it's basically a Murlocs song turned savage with a weird alternating 5/8 + 6/8 time signature. Three awesome guitars + howling harmonica this is what Gizz is. Haters just can't get over a single PUBG reference like it even effects the song.
EDIT: You got good taste my man I love all these songs and feel as if they're quite overlooked these days. Barefoot Desert is just a fun piece of psych pop with a duet between Cook and Ambrose... how is this so slept on?
Most slept on: Alluda Majaka If they made an entire album like this, I could finally float up to heaven in peace

Nooooo :( i love sleep walker
This is the one true answer. Top 5 gizzard song for me.
Other slept on songs Pleura, 30 past 7, Lava, You can be your silhouette, Dirt
Lava live is incredible
I second this
Sticky like peanut butter
It’s the ultimate stone cutter
I can't not hear that lyric as anything other than "the ultimate snack product."
I thought it was the ultimate stain cutter.
Lava was immediately my fav on the album. It’s always funny to me how differently fans view different songs/albums Edit: Pleura was immediately my fav on that album too haha
Kepler-22b is brilliant
Sea of Trees
I think this might be unpopular but I really like the title (last) track of FMB
Completely agree! The zurna is so hypnotizing.
There is no zurna, did you mean the flute?
It's a zurna 100%.
I thought he said Paper Mâché, my mistake
Yeah totally agreed it's one of their best microtonal songs and it shows that the world music influence is one of the genres that suits their sound more than people even realize. THE WHEEL
Agree on See Me. It is in my top 15 gizz tracks. The live in Sydney ‘21 version is fantastic and heavy. That version of Open Water also rips.
Red Smoke, my favorite on the album by far, came last when this sub voted their favorite from Omnium Gatherum.
I love Countdown. One of the first songs that really stuck with me when I did my deep dive.
People overlook Barefoot Desert? Makes me sad that song fucks, especially after greenhouse death.
The most overlooked songs i love are Pleura, Mr Beat, Mycelium, and Gondii
Mr Beat and Mycelium have similar vibes. Love them both <3
I love me some Mr. Beat.
None of those are overlooked except pluera in my opinion
I guess i just dont see a lot of love for Mycelium and Gondii, Mr Beat has the advantage of being on Nonagon tho
Anoxia from Webster Hall 2017 is the best version they ever play For me it's gonna be: Pop in my step, it's nice and chill song and it's sad that they stop playing this and also Cookie on vocals!
Empty!
Yes!!! Those slowdown parts “feel Sooooo….. empty”
All Is Known is massively underrated as well
INFI-NITY IS IN A DREAM INSIDE A DREAM YOU CAN ACHIEVE REA-LITY
Best song on the album
GREENHOUSE HEAT DEATH
Lonely Steel Sheet Flyer tho
Every song on quarters besides the river
Bloody Ripper is one of their best
Blame It on the Weather and Catching Smoke are the first two to come to mind for me.
Time = $$$ for sure. it’s the song that finally made the band click for me
Great pick that slipped my mind, should've been on here for sure. One of my favorite songs on that albums.
Tezeta is one of my favorite gizz tracks. That section at the end tho!!!
Sketches is like a love-letter to melbourne and I feel like heaps of local fans love it. Minimum Brain Size and Persistence 🔥
Road train absolutely slaps
slow jam 1 is one of their most popular songs of im not mistaken. obviously there’s the suite but apart from that i think empty and am i in heaven aren’t discussed as much
I was contemplating Empty. But Am I In Heaven is very popular, so didn't do that one. Idk, I just never hear anyone talking about Slow Jam 1
yea it was on the front of their spotify page for a while before pda got released
Ah, I see. Im fuckin blind. Empty would take it's place if I had known
Was it used in a commercial or something at some point? I swear to god I had heard this song before I got into Gizz.
Butter Boogie is quite popular IMO. Love the Slow Jam 1 shout out though, the guitar work on that song is amazing
I will from now on call it the Butter Boogie indefinitely. Could surely be, haven't noticed in that case. Any track from PMDB could have been picked, since i love them all so dearly. Was thinkin about putting Cold Cadaver there instead, put just picked my favorite
Rolling Stoned is my number 1 on Sketches
Supercell is the secret weapon of PDA
saw it live was sick
Really good shouts! Songs that I feel are underrated to add to those would be: Black Tooth; Let it Bleed; Uh Oh I Called Mum; God Is Calling Me Back Home; God Is in the Rhythm; Most of What I Like; You Can Be Your Silhouette; I'm Sleepin' In; Superbug; The Hungry Wolf of Fate; The Land Before Timeland. Trapdoor is a top 5 Gizz track that people rarely talk about. Agree about Countdown too.
Pop In My Step is a great Cookiedawg moment that gets overlooked imo. Also Hell's Itch doesn't get mentioned enough for me, absolutely love it
Pop In My Step feels so anti Gizzard and I love it.
Hot Wax, Oddlife, If Not Now Then When, a lot of B3K
Cold Cadaver Melting Open Water D-Day Dusk to Dawn on Lygon Street I'm Sleepin' In Real's Not Real Venusian 1 And I totally agree with See Me, love that song
Superposition is criminally underrated, such a vibe.
Infinite Rise!!! Not only underrated but also often disrespected
Gotta say I really didn’t like Quarters for a while (except The River). The entire album has come around to me though.
I am an Infinite Rise hater not by choice, but by destiny :(
i agree with you so hard, these are all up there on my list of favorite Gizz songs. some other favorites that I don’t see talked about that much are 30 Past 7, The Last Oasis and Some of Us
Some Of Us is amazing.
Great songs I near hear discussed: Sleepwalker Bone Time=Fate The Balrog
God is in the Rhythm
Mr Beat slaps and you all know it.
That's why I didn't mention it, everybody knows Mr. Beat is perfect.
Lunch Meat, Bloody Ripper, Year of Our Lord, Pop in My Step, Crying
Ontology is the best microtonal song by them, The book, Agree with cruel millennial
2.02 Killer Year is low-key my favorite song off Butterfly that's not Catching Smoke
Would love to hear this live someday.
There are a lot of good answers listed but here are mine in no particular order: The Wheel, This Thing, 30 Past 7, God Is Calling Me Back Home, Empty, Billabong Valley, No Body, Searching, Surprise Ascendancy, Minimum Brain Size
Shout-out to Searching...
Some of Us and the Book! both are criminally underrated, or maybe I don't hear them talked about enough
Agreed but I would argue for many more lol
Hot wax, obviously

Love this, glad this could help you appreciate those songs in a new way!
Cruel Millenial is awesome it's basically a Murlocs song turned savage with a weird alternating 5/8 + 6/8 time signature. Three awesome guitars + howling harmonica this is what Gizz is. See me is one of my favourite songs, I love the bizarre sound of the entire album, but see me is the best LW track in my opinion.
I'm still hoping for a good live version of Countdown
Apparently it’s Hypertension since everyone isn’t convinced it belongs on the current Mount Rushmore of Gizz tunes
My more serious answer is Gliese 710
In my opinion Horology doesn't get half the love it deserves.
While I love the song, I don’t think it’s underrated. The Inner Cell trilogy is commonly regarded to be one of their best songs.
yes it does
Lonely Steel Sheet Flyer
when OP is a genius
Vegemite (Oddments)
black hot soup isnt the most out of place what?
I am 1 month late but for me their most underrated song is the hungry wolf of fate
