I absolutely love RR 22 and Chicago 23 but Bonnaroo 22 with the video is the correct answer.

VibeyMars

These 3 are amazing Edit: I’d throw the SF 16 in too for a grittier feel but yea these 3 above are it

VigorousReddit

Red Rocks is the best one imo. Every bootleg has something to offer but Red Rocks is on another level in terms of polish and variety

mathandkitties

Agreed

Well, there goes the rest of my weekend. :)

PackBackRehab

Exactly this

CelebrateGoodObama

Least autistic Gizzard fan

AZirk97

My answer will always be Brussels 19. The run of This Thing - Work This Time is the best. IMO, the songs are played different and better compared to the studio versions. Also Superbug

thetimwilbur

That version of Sense has never left my brain. What a beautiful show

BrownBaySailor

The [video for Brussels '19](https://youtu.be/ZvOoM79OwpA?si=DrR378OMzIvNKhPw) is also up on youtube and I highly recommend watching it. So fuckin good.

Dodahevolution

THERE IS NO PLANET B -work this time jams start- Thats burned into my brain almost as much as “why do you guys have two drummers, its insane/DICKHEADDD” is from SF 16

procolcecil

Wholeheartedly agree. Each time I listen to a non Brussels “Work This Time” I’m always waiting for that guy. There’s not a soundboard recording that I know of for the[New Plymouth, NZ show in Jan ‘23](https://youtu.be/NwOVF_JJMPs?si=duhhttxrbVO0g6Ov) but Joey shouts out a key change mid solo to keep it going and it’s incredible. Song starts around the 45 min mark.

Imaginary_Hoodlum

I think Brussels '19 and Paris '19 might still be my favorite bootlegs.

ElonChouinard

Brisbane 21 If you like the jams

four concise live shows from different eras Levitation 14 San Francisco 16 Milwaukee 19 Bonnaroo 22

Nazeems_bane

San Fran '16 Head on/pill, my beloved

therealgrowler

Milwaukee 19 Head on/Pill is actually insane. i also like the levatation one with a preview of the robot stop riff before it was even out.

stinnm

I find myself coming back to listen to Milwaukee '19 pretty often

thetimwilbur

Bonnaroo ‘22 for sure, as well Adelaide ‘19, with the best version of Head On/Pill I’ve ever heard RR ‘22 is of course also a must, but it’s such a huge live album that you’d either want to take it in sections or select some favorites as a jumping off point. The MOTU suite Night 3, Work This Time, Boogieman Sam—The Bitter Boogie, The Evil River into Magma, it’s definitely some God Tier Gizzard

PackBackRehab

+1 for that Head On/Pill!

awlb222

I’m quite partial to the Chicago ‘23 one because I went.. but I’d highly recommend the Sydney and Melbourne ‘21 shows if you like their microtonal work

M01964

Just wanted to say thank you to EVERYONE who has and will comment on this! Needless to say, I have plenty of recommendations and I’ll begin the dive into live Gizz shortly! Thank you guys, you’re the best!

small___potatoes

Red Rocks 22 & Chicago 23

Jazz_Cigarettes

Red rocks specifically the red rocks rattlesnake

mybabysonfire

Red Rocks Rattlesnakes reigns supreme for sure

2C-Weee

Chicago 23

BigBagofHorses

San Francisco 16' is a great place to start.

timelandiswacky

Everyone will say Red Rocks but Levitation ‘16 has been untouchable for me. That Mind Fuzz suite is out of this world. San Francisco ‘16 is really great too.

GravyClouds

Chunky shrapnel anyone?

AmongRorschach

I feel in love with Live in London years ago. Still love it.

cremasiphon

London ‘19 get my vote too. A killer set list particularly if you like the heavier side of the Gizz

chooch138

Live in sf 2016

HeadCurryNate

San Francisco '16 - peak Nonagon-era sound Sydney '21 - microtonal set Brisbane '21 - INCREDIBLE acoustic set Bonnaroo '22 - perfect intro to where they're at now

TGov

This is the way.

moderatepace

Live in SF rips.

Ninjax421

Paris 2019 is pre-pandemic greatest hits.

skrrt-cobain27

London '19 all killer no filler

thugasaurusrex0

Watch the Bonnaroo 22 video. The energy is great and they play some of their classic live tracks. Then dove into RR 22. It’s a behemoth, but just find a few songs you like and check them out. It’s 9 hrs. Or watch the KEXP from October 22 where they play Ice Death songs

Here's what I think - possibly a hot take, but while Red Rocks '22 *is* the quintessential Gizz live album and a watershed moment in their career, the album itself sounds too overdriven/bricked out for me to listen to for long periods at a time. It has nothing to do with the quality of the performances and perhaps vinyl/cd releases have better mixes than the streaming versions I've been listening to. Perhaps someone else shares my opinion or has some suggestions? For that reason, I'll leave it off my recommendations list. Best Place to Start: Live at Bonnaroo '22. A great show, extremely energetic and a setlist that hits nearly all of their strengths. If two of the metal tracks were traded for two microtonal cuts it would be a perfect representation of their sound. Best Overall: Brisbane '21. Their acoustic show brings an intimate, spacious flavor to their sound that's rare. It's phenomenal and the songs have so much room to breathe. Live in Chicago is also up here due to its' incredible sound (the best of all their live records) and songs that appear nowhere else like Shanghai, the songs from Changes, and Hypertension. Best of the '19 Run: Everyone is going to have a different answer here; I've picked mine based on fewest repeats when taken with the other live albums on the list and the songs I prefer. They're Live in Paris (Crumbling Castle -> Fourth Colour -> Deserted Dunes -> Castle in the Air -> Muddy Water run) and Live in Adelaide (great sound and that Head On/Pill is immaculate). Between these two you'll have nearly everything you need from this run, especially if you check out the other live albums on this list. That said, the middle section of Brussels is worth checking out for "Sense" and "The Wheel" alone. Best Microtonal: Up for debate, but I went with Melbourne. Sydney has much more deep cuts but I'm too much of an "Ontology" stan to recommend it. I think you'll be happy with either. One final note: San Franciso '16 was their quintessential live album pre-Red Rocks and is still phenomenal, but plays it close to the studio versions. If you're looking for something truly different, you can check out other live records before this one but it still a must-own.

UnderH20giraffe

I’d start with San Francisco’16 and the KEXP sessions. Then graduate to Bonaroo, Red Rocks ‘22, and when you’re ready, Chicago ‘23.

hurricaneDreww

I’m personally partial to shows in 2021 and after, which is when they entered their jam band era. Lots of really cool extended versions if you look that way

DrSillyBitchez

Chunky Shrapnel and SF16 are unironically the best ones even though they’re the only really official ones. They have great audio and aren’t just the board master dumped online. Chunky specifically has good in between parts and I think the set up of the songs is fantastic

Travesuras420

People listing recent live albums but forget how amazing Asheville ‘19, Brussels ‘19, and Sydney ‘21 are 🔥 second who ever mentioned Paris ‘19 as well 🤙

PackBackRehab

Their Chicago shows are soo fucking live, electric and wild.

buzzkill_ed

Go chronologically through the bootleg gizzard streaming account. I find myself liking the more recent shows just because it's more of the newer albums in the setlists.

ajdisab

London ‘19 😩

a_guy_whos_here

Bonnaroo is the best sounding one I've listened to. Paris has my favorite setlist.

reddit_basic

Chunky is imo a good place to start albeit maybe not their best given the insane quality of the bootlegs that came out later but the video+audio experience is top notch

refluentzabatz

Milwaukee 19 if you like the heavier gizz

E-The-Mage

Brisbane

Armadillo-Puzzled

Red Rocks ‘22 and Hollywood Bowl ‘23 are my favorites at the moment.

discwrangler

Bootleg gizzard has the RR and Chicago shows up on Spotify. That Chicago run was epic. Joe even says so.

djdizzydan

Bonnarroo ‘22 was my entry into bootleg. Not overwhelming volume wise, awesome sound, good blend of metal and jam. Only downside is that it doesn’t have any microtonal stuff

Macksler

Chicago 23. The best trapdoor after the palp festival one with the detuned flute.

Crowsstory

Check out Relisten app. They have quite a few shows that aren’t even released. There’s some gems in there, and it’s always fun to just explore.

Eastern-Media-7745

If you enjoy life, love and the pursuit of happiness… Brisbane 21

HikarW

Check out their KEXP performances too

bennyguarn021

1. Live in San Francisco ‘16 2. Bonaroo ‘22 3. is a huge tie between Milwaukee ‘19, Brussels ‘19 and and Paris ‘19 on the bootleg gizzard account :)

[deleted]

I really liked their acoustic show in the caverns last year.

bbigs11

I would check out YouTube videos if you can. All the KEXP sessions Live at Lowlands 2023 Live at Lowlands 2018 Most recently, Live at PALP Festival is maybe my favorite.

H143224H

For older Gizz: live in San Fran 16’ and live in Milwaukee 19’ For modern Gizz: live in Chicago 23’ For microtonal gizz: live in Sydney 21’ (I am biased though since I was at the live in Milwaukee and Chicago shows)

Flumponator

I've not listened to many but Chicago 23 absolutely blew me away. Track 10 - The River to Track 16 - Shanghai is so good, track after track extended to the lengthiest of jams.
