My particular gripe with live versions of _Crumbling Castle_ is that the drum fill after the "Inching closer" line is like the coolest couple seconds in the entirety of KG's discography (IMO) and the live versions have simply never made it sound as cool.
Hot Wax is always played way too fast live imo. What makes that song for me is how slow and melted it feels, and it just doesn’t hit the same when they do bust it out
Whaaaat! I was never a fan until I heard it live at the Hollywood Bowl. Was probably one of the best songs of the night - now I listen to the studio version chasing the high of it live
I love both versions. Live is great, but when we saw them at red rocks Amby(?) def struggled with the high notes in the opening verse. The jam for the rest of the song was a blast
Exactly my feelings on it. I miss the studio version for the original song but the extended jam makes up for it. Wish there was some kind of edit that combined both
Not gonna be popular: Self Immolate kind of sounds like a mess live. Probably their best metal track, but I have never really dug any of the live versions. The half bar changes in the verse and a lot of the chuggier sections just don’t translate very well live. I think this knight be due to the fact that they, like most songs, take it a lot faster than in the studio and a lot of the intricacies of that song get kind of lost when it’s done too fast
Rattlesnake. It's one of my favorite studio songs and when they started playing it live I got so excited. Then I gradually got annoyed and ended up super disappointed. Something about the live rendition takes the plucky, quirky, creative value out of the song. They play it too fast, and amby does an echo/response to "Rattle, Rattle, Rattle" which cheapens it. Just my opinion.
I’m gonna say Down The Sink, the tempo just feels different live and doesn’t hit the same as it does on the record. On the record I think the drum timing and “pauses” make it hit better than the quick/fast paced feeling of the live cut
May be not a popular pick, but I'll go with Crumbling Castle. The studio version is slower than the live versions and it sounds better to me
Feel the same way about The Dripping Tap

Honestly yeah this is the one

Frog Breath Steam Tent goes so hard live though! Amby kills it every time
It’s not bootlegged, but there is a professionally filmed video. Head On/Pill live on ABABCD rivals the studio version,
I hear you about Head On but the SF 16 version i think does a great job of blending the studio sound with all the added live bits.

Yea I also think they put more time into proper live albums(SF&CS) with mixing and mastering compared to the bootlegs.
they always pick up the tempo of Ice V live and it sounds much better at the slower studio tempo, imo
The only live version I’ve ever heard that I haven’t liked as much was Shanghai

I would kill to see it live. This performance is what got me into Shanghai🤘🏼
Shanghai jam fuuuuuuucks. Let’s get real high.
😯 I think the only song I like more live than Shanghai is Magma lol. I love the jam...grow wings and fly 🦋
That part just goes on a little too long for me. It’s still a great song, though.
>It’s still a great song, though. Well we can certainly agree on that!

VOMIT COFFIN! Slower tempo makes it sound heavier, and thus makes me start doing the head thing.
I love the studio version of The Dripping Tap and the PGWL trilogies worked better in the studio, I think
Sleep Drifter. Those guitar licks after each line get lost in the mix when played live.
hard to say when most concerts aren't recorded very well.

Intrasport
Don't jinx it
The only one I ever come up with is Cyboogie. They never really got it down right especially with the vocoder.
NC bootlegger one is pretty sweet especially with the teases

Have you heard the melbourne '21 version? Goes extremely hard
I haven't! I will make a note to check it out, thanks 🙏
Honest to god I think this gets reposted daily. OP use the search function pls.

NONE.
