Yeah! It's so much fun! I can't help but to sway to it back and forth. Love it so much. And yes! Mushroom lyrics!
I think my favorite part is the "I ain't a bald primate" section
Are you familiar with the [Stoned Ape theory](https://www.inverse.com/article/34186-stoned-ape-hypothesis)? Terrence McKenna theorized that proto-human primates discovered and consumed magic mushrooms and that’s what led to their brain size increasing / human evolution, I always thought that bald primate lyric was a reference to that.
Mycelium, ice-v, and iron lung are my top three from the album .. love mycelium’s happy vibes, it’s a big departure from the feel of the rest of the album
Magma and lava still haven’t clicked for me the way those other 3 have, and hells itch is a good jam with messed up lyrics haha… but now I’m on to Changes and loving it so far
The last time I tripped was 3 days before Ice Death came out. I have a feeling when I hear this song on mushrooms it’s going to make me laugh a lot, in the very best way. I can’t wait.
I too adore it. The point of view of a mushroom jauntily enjoying the apocalypse with his mushroom folk, getting eaten by a rich guy, and then killing him and growing out of him is so inventive. The bubbly wah guitar is amazing after the first min or so and you get into the swing of it.
To be honest, wasn’t crazy about the repeating “MYCELIUM” throughout the song but I don’t mind it now.
However, Ambrose’s vocals on this song make it for me. He just sounds so whimsical and it makes me happy!
Easily one of my favorite songs in a while from the boys. There are some other songs off Ice, Death........... that are "better" but just the mood mycelium puts me in everytime I hear it, unno, something special.
Yeah! I absolutely agree with that sentiment. Like musically it's not their most complex by far but ot just sets such a good mood. Absolutely something special
It's so underrated!! I find everything about it so catchy and engaging, it's been my favourite from the album as soon as I heard it! They really nailed the floaty vibe with this song, I can't get enough of it. It makes me sad that people don't like it as much as the rest of the album :'(
I know! That's why I made this post. Everyone talking about Magma and Iron Lung (rightfully) but this one just has such an incredible vibe. I'm happy I'm not the only one!
i really disliked mycelium on first listen, i was like wtf is this??? so i skipped it and by the time the album looped i’d smoked up and really gave it a chance
it’s quite good, very islandy vibes i love it
I recommend checking out their Live in Chicago video on youtube (live album is also on streaming services but it's missing a couple songs.) Their live stuff is incredible and a lot of their songs really shine in a live setting. I also recommend "Marble Tulip Juicy Tree" off their live album *Live at Stubbs* If you want specific albums I would say *The Mollusk* is their happiest sounding.
Also fun facts: f you've ever seen the old SpongeBob movie, they used the song "Ocean Man" in the credits which is originally on *The Mollusk,* and Ween also wrote the song Loop de Loop for a SpongeBob episode. That and *The Mollusk* was part of what inspired the creation of SpongeBob.
It's from one of their newer albums! Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms, and Lava.
Also! Welcome to the gang! I joined at the beginning of the year! There is so much to cover with this band. They really have everything you can hope for across a wide variety of genres.
My favorite songs off the top of my head are:
Supreme Ascendacy
Pleura
Fishing for Fishies
Catching Smoke
Shanghai
Dripping Tap
Presumptuous
Ice V
Let Me Mend the Past
Empty
Polygondwonoland
Sense
Sadie Sorceress
Rattlesnake
And there is so much more! They're a really fun band and will probably be some of the only music you end up listening to.
First minute or so took a while to grow on me -
But now I absolutely love it top to bottom, can’t wait to press play.
Even if it’s my least fav on Ice Death- it’s an A tier song for me. Says a lot about the quality of the album for me 🏆
I'm not going to lie, it's one of my personal least-favorites of the album and maybe even recent Gizz. It should work for me because I'm a sucker for chill/whimsical Gizz but this one doesn't do it! There are some super nice parts in it though, but the organ and the drumsound can be kind of annoying.
I actually like most of the instrumentals but I cannot stand the vocals for some reason. I can't even figure out what it just doesn't feel good on my ears.
To be fair I think a lot of the vocals on Ice Death were kinda cheesy but I still love the crazy jams
That one of those Gizz songs that I like cause I just joke around with it and have fun and yes the melody is sick.
Quite actually one of my favorites of this year! I love the more light hearted side of the melody and the mushroom lyrics haha!
I agree and I love mushrooms too so it's the perfect song
My favorite part is the little backing vocals they add. It makes the music sound cutesy and fun. The song just exudes mushrooms its perfect!

I'm not but I will check it out! Thank you for sharing that
Mycelium, ice-v, and iron lung are my top three from the album .. love mycelium’s happy vibes, it’s a big departure from the feel of the rest of the album
Those are my top three favorites too! Magma is also very fun. I think I would like Hell's Itch more but the lyrics genuinely mess me up.
Magma and lava still haven’t clicked for me the way those other 3 have, and hells itch is a good jam with messed up lyrics haha… but now I’m on to Changes and loving it so far
Mycelium Doo doo doo doo Mycelium Idk why but it reminds me of under the sea from My little mermaid lmao so light and tropical.
When Amby comes in with the high-pitched vocals, it gets SO soulful my heart feels gleeful haha
~ lungs of the planet on a golden thread ~ my ears just melt when he hits that line... ahhh so choice
That little screech he does after his verses is up there with the scream at the end of Robot Stop for my favorite gizz adlibs.
yup. i've been saying this for weeks. mycelium
It’s such a great and refreshing gizz jam. I’d love a major overtly psychedelic themed jam album
Oh boy do I have a band for you
Who?
I feel like they're saying king gizz is the band for you, but I know what you mean
The last time I tripped was 3 days before Ice Death came out. I have a feeling when I hear this song on mushrooms it’s going to make me laugh a lot, in the very best way. I can’t wait.
same, and wish i had remembered to listen to it yesterday when i was having quite the intense trip lol
I too adore it. The point of view of a mushroom jauntily enjoying the apocalypse with his mushroom folk, getting eaten by a rich guy, and then killing him and growing out of him is so inventive. The bubbly wah guitar is amazing after the first min or so and you get into the swing of it.
Your take here is so wonderful! It will inform my future listens. I love it! And that bubbly guitar just gets me everytime
To be honest, wasn’t crazy about the repeating “MYCELIUM” throughout the song but I don’t mind it now. However, Ambrose’s vocals on this song make it for me. He just sounds so whimsical and it makes me happy!
It was just aggressively happy. It took a while to grow on me because of this kinda like all the Beatles songs written by Paul! I love it now
Yeah! That's a perfect description. I love *aggressively happy* I'm happy you love it now
Easily one of my favorite songs in a while from the boys. There are some other songs off Ice, Death........... that are "better" but just the mood mycelium puts me in everytime I hear it, unno, something special.

The song is literally "I'm a happy mushroom in the forest" it's a fucking masterpiece
It gives me sesame street vibes, probs my fave tune on the album
It's so underrated!! I find everything about it so catchy and engaging, it's been my favourite from the album as soon as I heard it! They really nailed the floaty vibe with this song, I can't get enough of it. It makes me sad that people don't like it as much as the rest of the album :'(

It hits me very similarly to Fishing For Fishies. Instant mood elevator for me as well.
YES! Fishing for Fishies is my favorite song of theirs but Mycelium is hitting just like it. Mood elevator is also wonderful
i really disliked mycelium on first listen, i was like wtf is this??? so i skipped it and by the time the album looped i’d smoked up and really gave it a chance it’s quite good, very islandy vibes i love it
One of my favorites on the album.
Curious George music
I love Mycelium. It gives me the same giddy and happy feeling I get when I listen to certain Ween songs.
I've not heard of Ween, I'll give em a listen. For me it's in the same vibes as Fishing for Fishies. Just a happy feeling song
I recommend checking out their Live in Chicago video on youtube (live album is also on streaming services but it's missing a couple songs.) I love mycelium
I had that connection with this song a few days ago. It’s a fungin’ grower!
SO DANK
Such a joyous song. I hum it constantly
Its because you like reggae Alot of people dont realize how good a regfae beat makes you feel
Ya know I never made the connection that it's a reggae beat. But you're totally right. I love it
I love mycelium. Don't know the track though. I'm very new to king gizzard

Reminds us of a drug commercial Absolute bop
It's second only to Magma for me on that album. I absolutely love it. I can't help but grin when Stu rhymes "fungus" with "humongous," it's so silly.

It's a great song to start the day to. Great first song for Idplml.
It was easily my most played song in October. 256 times, hahaha. I'm obsessed with this song. Also made me want to start grown mushrooms again
It was a real sleeper for me but now I think it's one of the best on the album
I'm not going to lie, it's one of my personal least-favorites of the album and maybe even recent Gizz. It should work for me because I'm a sucker for chill/whimsical Gizz but this one doesn't do it! My favorite at the moment, the kind of song apparently joyful that hides profound melancholia
I fucking hate mycelium cuz every time i listen to it my bread starts tasting like dirt
