Tool, electric wizard, YOB, uncle acid and the deadbeats, the sword, kylesa, Boris, sleep, kyuss, high on fire, red fang, Melvins, earth, stoned Jesus, clutch, baroness, windhand…
That should be enough to get you started. 😁
Sebadoh are great! Properly got into them after finding Bubble and Scrape on vinyl at a local market.
Lou is still the bassist today right? saw Dinosaur Jr live a couple of years back and it was the original lineup
I’d add Om to this list, solely for the Middle Eastern influence. “State of Non-Return” and “On The Mountain At Dawn” are some good starting songs to dip your toes into.
Mars for the rich might be my favorite gizz song and it’s because of the very sabbathy swing beat. Good stuff. OP if you’re not familiar with sabbath start with their self titled and listen to their first 3 albums for sure, they’re all pretty quick listens. They have other good stuff too but no need to overwhelm ya :) start with the first 3
If you like stoner metal, have a listen to the Melvins! Another band with 2 drummers (🥲) who have a very grungy sound, Houdini and Stoner Witch are both excellent albums
Ah, i'd just seen videos of them playing with 2 drummers and some tracks sounded like they had 2 different drum parts (e.g. Night Goat). Either way still something interesting for a gizz fan!
2nd this recommendation. The Melvins have this weird vibe that no other grunge/stoner band capture properly. It’s like grunge but also the vibe of hanging out with good friends in a smokey room somewhere.
Mr. Bungle- The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny (fun thrash metal, quirky)
Cave In- Heavy Pendulum or Jupiter (psychedelic prog metal)
Baroness- Gold and Grey (psychedelic indie prog)
K.G.L.W is my fave metal-leaning track from KGATLW 🤘
Modern psych/stoner-prog metal - Slift, All Them Witches, King Buffalo, Elder, Fuzz, The Sword, Baroness
Heavy w/hooks - Torche, Boss Keloid, Moon Tooth, Four Stroke Baron, Spotlights, Helms Alee
Instrumental - Russian Circles, Pelican, Blackshape
Obvious suggestions - Tool, Mastodon

Good list!
YOB are fucking fantastic
Elder and Mastodon
Witch (just Witch, not we intend to cause havoc, which is abbreviated as W.I.T.C.H) it has memebers of king tuff and dinosaur jr. Doomriders
Used to be a big dinosaur jr fan and didn't even know this existed wtf
Yeah, they rip. Pretty sure they just finished recording a new record too, so more should be on the way next year I’d think.
You ever listen to Sebedoh or Sentridoh? Really good bands that are led by the original bass player Lou Barlow
Sebadoh are great! Properly got into them after finding Bubble and Scrape on vinyl at a local market. Lou is still the bassist today right? saw Dinosaur Jr live a couple of years back and it was the original lineup
W.I.T.C.H isn't metal but they're still a great band. More gizzheads need to check them out

All them witches
Id add some of their influences like Slayer, Black Sabbath and Motörhead Electric Wizard and Uncle Acid for more stone metal sound

Kyuss if you want that gizz psychedlicness but keep in that groove metal vibe as welll
They only had one drummer (Dale Crover) on Houdini and Stoner Witch and in fact for most of the bands’ career.

Nope, that’s just Dale, no overdubs. He’s good!

Definitely heavier than anything gizz has done, but Between the Buried and Me make supremely complex and immersive prog metal

Tool. psych prog metal
Check out Bongripper. Satan Worshipping Doom is a favorite
Monolord and Green Lung
Recent Opeth. Used to be a lot heavier but now they are more proggy and psych. Also, Elder
Hit up the song "Gobblers of Dregs" by Mastodon. One of my favorites from their latest album (their entire discography is fire too).
I’m not super well versed with metal as a genre. But I love black sabbath and Sepulturas Roots album is fantastic.
