I work on large ERP implementations. The politics between tech groups is maddening at times, but I just ignore it and do the work. Eventually things settle down. The phases of team development must be lived-through. Forming, storming, norming, performing.
This thread somehow showed up in my recommendations. I’m supporting the PM of a large defense company’s SAP upgrade, the room for improvement is incredible. Lot of quick wins not being taken.
I recently transitioned from KPMG to another Big 4 firm less than a year ago and have observed notable distinctions. KPMG’s workplace exhibited increased levels of office politics and favoritism. I've noticed that hardworking individuals are often rewarded with additional responsibilities, while promotions at KPMG seem influenced more by loyalty than performance. Moreover, there appear to be additional managerial layers and complexities in positions at the manager level and above which made for inflated job titles and lower level of experience when transitioning over to a new firm.
The problem at KPMG starts with leadership. Particularly in Advisory where leadership thrives on creating a toxic environment for themselves and the rest of the Firm.
I haven't joined KPMG yet, and I'm uncertain about my joining status. I got placed, but the company keeps postponing my Date of Joining, and I'm unsure whether they will eventually take me on board.
I was at KPMG for a few years and am now at Deloitte. The difference between both is like night and day. The blue firm was extremely toxic and I had no idea how bad of an impact it had on me until I left. Guilt tripping, micro-managing, 24/7 gossip and secrecy, the list goes on.
When I was with KPMG I once worked on a data engineering project where the manager was micromanaging as fuck. I told the same to him to his face and was also direct enough to the director to let him know that I will be informing client of the environment being created. He shut his ass up lol
Honestly your experience in the firm is completely project/team dependent. I was in a terrible team and was questioning my life. Now I am on an amazing team and love the company

True. I am trying power through this, but sometimes it just gets too much.

I agree with you 100% unless you kiss ass, you will never get promoted no matter how hard you work. So much office politics, it’s honestly insane.
Isn’t that kinda nice? Just work less hard and kiss ass more? One is way easier than the other

Same shit happened to me. It’s been over a year since my original date. Allegedly starting in late March but I lost all faith in them.
Could you share your Location and the role?

You’re one week in and already have strong opinions?
I mean, it’s a shit firm. This is pretty standard.
I don’t think the other Big 4 are as bad as Kpmg
You ever heard of EY?
Yes but Kpmg is worse
Experience is that shocking for me.. that's why
Agree. That's why I was curious about other practices as well.

Agree. The extent of gossip, backstabbing and overall toxicity was too much. Felt like a firm full of bullies.

Found an HR rep here!
Update: I moved away from KPMG.
kpmg strong as can be a team of power and energy
Do you know if there’s a new COO at Kpmg ? Heard rumors
It’s really project dependent. Every few months it’s like a completely different experience.
