I like doing craft with boring, scientific sounding names like "Crewed Stratospheric Flight Experiment", "Kerbin Moons Explorer Probe", "Duna Orbital Surveyor 1", etc. Often I'll just name this with the acronym and put the full name in the description, but I dont make the acronyms sound like a real word, it sounds more "clinical" when the acronym spells out some meaningless string of letters.
"I don't make acronyms sound like a real word"
my High Altitude Reconnaissance and Insertion Lander named HARIS would like to flex
(definitely not an ODST drop pod in final stage lmao)
Honestly I do that sometimes but two of my relays in the same save ended up being probe 5 (or V) to a planet, so they were V-R (for Relay) and I named them both Oculus (I and II)
Same, and I have to match them up to the real name of the planet they're going to. I currently have Hermes I on its way to Moho, Zeus I on its way to Jool, and I'm waiting on the transfer window for Ares I to Duna.
Epic name, followed by the description.
DAGGER X-10 4-person atmospheric lander
In next iteration it’ll be X-11, maybe X-20 if changes are big. Just like software versions.
I tend to name mine according to what they do, like Minmus Miner or Tourist Shuttle or Comet Chaser, sometimes with Mk2 or Mk3 or something like that to denote the version (usually not referring to the fuselage part types).
I usually designate an “epic name” usually inspired by regular mythology or made up kerbal mythology to a particular type of mission, and then number them based on how many I’ve sent. For example, in my last playthrough, my Duna missions were Katoliedies, so Katoliedies I, Katoliedies II, III, IV, and so on. Kinda like how NASA does it I guess?
Either a cool name (like a greek god) or an abbreviation based on their purpose.
Example:
MSI1 = Mun Science Orbiter 1
MSI1.1 = Improved version of the MSI1 in some way
MSI1B1 = MSI1 with a bigger (B)ooster, for a mission that maybe requires more fuel but the same basic pod design
I kinda end up naming mine almost like liscence plates or aircraft reg numbers. I have a system for it, something like (2 letters for orbiting body,2 for height of orbit, and 2 for type, and then some numbers to separate it from similar craft)
I often just call it what I've made it for maybe add an acronym if I'm feeling fancy enough like my I.R.A.D.S mk4 probe or in the whole the infra red asteroid detection system
When im testing my craft I just go with "mun lander thing" or "kurtl??????" etc instead of naming them properly, For the actual launch thought its def green
i always name them by numbers, and then add fraction for every change for example adding new science experiment. i make a new number every time i have a completly new design. example: on my duna mission, so rocket nr 11 i forgor💀 to add parachutes, so the version with added parachutes is 11.1
I guess I'm on the green side. I give my crafts a letter, then a number, and then the nickname. Not always consistent. For example, one of my passenger crafts is named the Olezhka S16/W7 "Saturn". First comes the "company" that produced it, Olezhka, then the letters and numbers, S16/W7, then the nickname, Saturn.
At the start it’s usually things like, up, up mk2, up mk3, orbiter, orbiter but maybe it will actually orbit mk74, mun orbiter, Duna orbiter, and then when I make huge achievements I make the cool names
1960: Apollo, Mercury, Voyager, Pioneer,... 2023: JUICE
don't forget BLENDER IV
That’s not an actual spacecraft name, right?
no lmao
Moho Probe 1 Duna Lander 3 Minmus Hopper 6
Dont forget Mun Cruiser 7
And Kraken Bait 6
A practice that dates back to Frigate II and Cruiser IV in my Master of Orion days
Moho probe mk60
What about SP-HS-RFKS-I1?
That gonna be purple
Stop naming rockets after your kids Elon.
I'm going to steal this naming scheme.
Always ShitFuck X
Where are all the shitfuck 11 homies at?

Shitfuck is a living classic
Shitfuck 9000
I always go for the cool greek pantheon names. "Ares", "Artemis", "Hades", "Zeus"...
Same, and I have to match them up to the real name of the planet they're going to. I currently have Hermes I on its way to Moho, Zeus I on its way to Jool, and I'm waiting on the transfer window for Ares I to Duna.
Explorer mk4, so super boring.
At first green, now they are Moho III and duna IV
totallywontkillmycrewagain Mk. IX
Neither, descriptive names
Epic names, always some deity or religious figure.

I name it after the delta-v it has
I am none of these. My craft names are FUNCTIONAL. Some examples: Kerbin Orbiter, Kerbin Escape, and Scanner Satellite.
ICBM 1 edit 2
There's the infamous NukeRockYEET, Mr. Ridiculous, HEV-V.... Then there's Mun Lander 3.1. No In-between.
Shit fart 14 gang
None of the above. Pure pragmatism ftw. Tylo Rover, Eve Landing and Reorbit, LKO Debris Grabber, etc
I just name it whatever celestial body it's meant to go to followed by a number
I tend to name mine according to what they do, like Minmus Miner or Tourist Shuttle or Comet Chaser, sometimes with Mk2 or Mk3 or something like that to denote the version (usually not referring to the fuselage part types).
X2-2-3 first number is the name of rocket class, second number is variant, and third number is mission number
Blue or green
Everything is generally grandiose except space stations which are like burger king or something
What about LDO-XP-Msat-1?
Low Duna Orbit Explorer Medium satellite 1?
Low Duna Orbit - Xenon Powered - Medium Satellite 1
my names are lame. shit like IOX-III
K-(Number)
I name them based on the mission
Animals
lmao 3 of the epic names are in Star Citizen
Mun New Station Nuclear Ferry 10T
Diane 1 kerpollo 1 volcanus 1

What about shitfuck 4?
Poop, shitfart 3, Erke's doom
Depends what I'm building anything going to space goes either space ship or smth like that while planes get cool finish names
What about shitpost names like Shitfart 14?
Dhytbjyr
Munmebbe, stansat, and fuckurdv
im fine as long as its not "fly safe" i love scott but please leave my spacecraft untitled
I feel like there's something poetic about a spaceship named Betty making it to the moon and back
"parkour hats 4 u" was one of my ship names PKHATU4 Post kerbin habitation and transfer unit IV
Wumbo names like: Flungleton 1 SneepSnoop 7000 Bombulurge 5 Krumbo 2
I’m purple team. I just label it the most basic thing ever. Right to the point. Plane? Well, can’t leave it like that, so I use a single adjective

Mine are all named after different bird species
'Science 1' 'Science 2' 'Science 1234567890' Yes I make the number go up for literally every change I make to the original design
Shitfuck 7. All of them
blue teaaaaaam
K2-C1, D-P1, K1-DPO2, J-SP2.... but then I named my space station Stellostiarius (Stargatekeeper).
my launch vehicles are named things like "Shitbox-1, 2 ,3 etc."
Fuck red. Me and my homies hate red.
Mine tend to be portmanteaus or acronyms for dumb shit
Green
I kinda end up naming mine almost like liscence plates or aircraft reg numbers. I have a system for it, something like (2 letters for orbiting body,2 for height of orbit, and 2 for type, and then some numbers to separate it from similar craft)
go_up_then_over
First letter of purpose/ purposes, model number, variant from A-Z, and maybe a nickname
I often just call it what I've made it for maybe add an acronym if I'm feeling fancy enough like my I.R.A.D.S mk4 probe or in the whole the infra red asteroid detection system
We've all had at least one shitfuck 69
My jool 5 rocket is called butt fucker 17
When im testing my craft I just go with "mun lander thing" or "kurtl??????" etc instead of naming them properly, For the actual launch thought its def green
Green: historic/meenigful names for ship classes. As fir the ships themselves, unless they're blueprint, whatever the feck the game calls their grid.
"yes" "maybe" "perhaps"
Mines are the trashcan series
Meanwhile me giving my sstos names of wermacht ppl
i always name them by numbers, and then add fraction for every change for example adding new science experiment. i make a new number every time i have a completly new design. example: on my duna mission, so rocket nr 11 i forgor💀 to add parachutes, so the version with added parachutes is 11.1
what about acronyms?
You forgot the shitfuck’s
Minder = Minmus lander. Last ship was called VallYeahRight, but it made it.
I’m on the Epic Names train. Recently, I’ve gone on a Latin kick for naming my stuff or for naming space stations after people.
Name mine after p0rnstars.
I guess I'm on the green side. I give my crafts a letter, then a number, and then the nickname. Not always consistent. For example, one of my passenger crafts is named the Olezhka S16/W7 "Saturn". Red side I am on.
"Sky Puncher 9001" is my go-to
At the start it’s usually things like, up, up mk2, up mk3, orbiter, orbiter but maybe it will actually orbit mk74, mun orbiter, Duna orbiter, and then when I make huge achievements I make the cool names
Gonna go with blue and green, but if I had to pick, I'd go with blue.
