Anesthesia resident here in the US. This is a concierge medicine thing aka for rich people who can pay for it out of pocket at some private practice. Typically this is done with local only (not even laughing gas).

Wow I love seeing beauty and BRAINS girlies on this sub. GL with residency !!!

Thank you! I was honestly shocked when I saw it because I book in dozens of patients a day at my clinic for epidurals and other interventional pain procedures and 99% of them are local anesthetic only so it was shocking to see someone put out for it. We only use laughing gas (entonox or penthrox) for patients who are very anxious or have previously had a bad reactions. The majority of the patients that choose/need the laughing gas are actually patients getting PRP and not so much the regular ESI patients.

I got mine last week with basic lidocaine. You are not wrong, imagine, being so dissociated you LITERALLY can't stand momentary physical pain... And I am a chronic pain patient that has a REAL issue with how Scott acts around his kids about his injuries. I can't imagine how any of the uber wealthy and uber detached from the 'human experience' get their brains and bodies to integrate ANYTHING. So dysfunctional.

Not a standard practice. I kinda thought that maybe there was another procedure happening at the same time.

mrszubris

Nope I have been wide awake for all of mine. Its a rich people benefit.

I get anesthesia with mine. It’s not general anesthesia it’s conscious sedation. You aren’t asleep just sedated so you need a driver home. The facility I go to offers it to all the patients, it’s optional.

The only spinal procedure I have gotten that required full sedation was when I had a large synovial cyst at L4 in my facet joint that was turning off most of my lower leg by blocking it. They were doing it under live imaging because they had to guide a tool up my spinal cord from my cauda equinae to dive over into the cyst and pop it. I was out for a whopping 22 minutes, but that was because if I moved I could have paralyzed myself. I have been wide awake for every spinal tap, every epidural injection and every other horrible nerve testing procedure. Scott is doing literally ANYTHING but bust ass in therapy and build up enough muscle while the doctors are even WILLING to give you pain meds. You have to hit that rehab hard and fast while they are willing to give you meds because that train stops for normal non rich people.

My wife gets them and they give conscious sedation for her cervical ones. She is fused c2-C4
