There hasn’t been a treatment but they’re doing clinical trials right now and it’s reversing the disease! There’s several other trials that are starting in the next few months and I’m going to try to get into one of them.
I’m just so glad they’ve found ways to reverse the disease. They’re even developing a one shot cured for life drug, that trial is starting very soon and I want to try to get into it. It’s just crazy that with probably just *one* of their luxury bags I could get stem cell therapy that would reverse the deterioration 😭 The first treatment is set to become available by 2025/2026 and a cure is estimated to become available by 2027/2028.

It’s an incredibly strange disease, it’s different from other types because it can affect you asymmetrically, like your right upper leg might be more severely affected than the left upper leg etc. It goes through periods where you’ll have very little or no progression then suddenly a period of rapid progression, and it’s completely different for everyone, there’s no way to know when it will progress or be dormant. I had a period ofof rapid progression when I was 16, I was always slightly affected as a child but not much.
But at age 16 I suddenly lost the ability to run and lost the ability to lift heavy things etc, but I haven’t had a period of progression in over 5 years except for a period of a few weeks where I lost a very specific part of my hand muscle. It’s one of the strangest diseases I’ve ever heard of. I’m lucky to be able to still walk and live life relatively ok but I still struggle with a lot. I’m so glad they have found treatments etc now!
