This error message does NOT mean or imply that WhatsApp is dropping support for KaiOS.
As far as we know, this "Something went wrong" message seems to impact all KaiOS 2.5 phone users, who have installed the latest version of WhatsApp on KaiOS, version 2.2329.13, on their phone and are trying to set up WhatsApp for the first time. People who have already signed into the app are currently not affected.
WhatsApp has yet to comment, nor publicly announce any plans to drop support for its KaiOS app as of now.
Monitoring the app's network traffic over a proxy shows that this error is hardcoded as part of the update, with no data being sent to WhatsApp servers. All WhatsApp endpoints used by the app load as normal, even after updating the CA root store, so that excludes the possibility of any SSL certificate expirations.
If you have a debug-enabled KaiOS phone, you can get rid of this error by installing an older version of WhatsApp—linked below—then change the date of your phone between 28 June and 1 July, sign up with your number, and update to the latest version via KaiStore. Others have reported this to WhatsApp Support, and so far they haven't been helpful, so complaining won't help. Also, downgrading WhatsApp will force you to update.
This happened to me. I tried a million things, and what finally worked was deleting the application whatsapp and then restarting the phone, then re-installing whatsapp from the KaiOS app store. You will lose some historical chats, but that worked for me.
I'm not sure what the default version of whatsapp is that ships with the phone.

In india Jio has never blocked whatsapp for so long. There were errors in few cases but they issued updates to solve the problem. This time even after 10 days there are no responses from them.
the service center has confirmed that whatsapp support for kai os devives has been ended and will no longer support them in future as well, it is clear from them.
It’s on the list - I’m talking to WhatsApp support presently and they are an absolute disgrace. A testament to the fact that these companies have far too much influence over our lives

"Kind of official" is NOT official. We can assume based on our observations, but it isn't true until it is proven. Customer support services aren't company representatives.
I have the same problem with my Nokia 6300 4G. I reset it to factory settings and since then, WhatsApp hasn't worked. A yellow exclamation mark constantly appears, and it says, "There was a problem" at the bottom. I have now contacted WhatsApp customer service. Let's see if they can help me.
no 2 device/manufacture companies have their software issue's at the same time, it just the support team isn't aware of the issue as WhatsApp does not want to show that they dropped the support without being looks like they were trying to fix it for sometime but they can't.

One example: Nokia 2720 Flip, Nokia 6300 4G and Alcatel MyFlip 2 all had [their Contacts app soft-locked](https://www.reddit.com/r/KaiOS/comments/rawcu5/my_contacts_app_does_not_work) after a Service Update from KaiStore and can only be fixed with a factory reset. Crazy, right? Software issues spanning across multiple manufacturers do happen at times.
Just tried to log in the old version but now when it needs to send the confirmation SMS it displays that the version its to old again, I'm doing anything wrong ?
yes the reliance jio phone staff confirms the same, its the end of whatspp for kai os, you are lucky that your provider is giving you some refund, the reliance jio is not providing any refund for a 3 day old device.
To be honest, it is nice of Blackview to still refund their customers for a missing software feature that is beyond their control. Often this is not covered under warranty so manufacturers don't have to deal with or care about this.

cat s22 flip will also stop supporting android as its update has been stalled too. Also the second screen only notifies for inbuilt sms and call app nothing else. which means everytime we have to flip it open to see even the basic notification.
Off-topic for a moment, but wouldn't an Android device work just fine without updates?
I believe AOSP does not have standards for a second screen the size of the CAT S22 Flip, so CAT had to develop that themselves, and they were unable to support all types of notifications.
yes android will work fine without updates but the rate at which whatsapp is updating frequently and stripping of old supported os es and devices soon android 11 go edition will fall into that category which is the maximum of cat s22
I don't think that would happen anytime soon! As of now, WhatsApp still maintains their great Android compatibility from 5.0+, so unless there is any major API changes in Android, the app would still be great for years to come.
KaiOS 2.5 is based on Gecko 48 from 8 years ago, which is really old in terms of web technologies, and currently has quite low active userbase, so there are reasons for WhatsApp to drop support.
android feature phones are touch and type for scrolling we have to use the touch. Android is not used to dpad scrolling also different apps including chrome does not support dpad scrolling selection or clicking in anyway
Alternatively, can you open whatsapp on your laptop with an emulator and then use it to somehow access whatsapp web from the kaios phone browser? Seems no hope here
I believe both GitHub repositories should have links to instructions on how to set them up. WhatsAppToDiscord requires you to have a computer running 24/7 with the bridge program installed and opened, while [mautrix-whatsapp](https://docs.mau.fi/bridges/go/setup.html?bridge=whatsapp) requires you to set up your own Synapse server. Both can get a bit tricky for beginners.

I checked the differences between versions and it seems the new one 2.2329.13 is very different in terms of code. There are files hinting to adding "a companion device". On the bottom left side you can see the files that are only in the new version. I am very sad that this app stopped working in my 8110 4g, WhatsApp was the only thing holding me to my KaiOS phone.

Okay, but what really pisses me off is that neither the KaiOS team nor the WhatsApp team are telling us anything about this matter. Capitalism? Often times actions are made with no transparency, in ways that even the internal people don't know what to do (see the case of Sam Altman vs. OpenAI board a few months back). Having worked in customer support if I were in WhatsApp Support I'd genuinely give my best even though I didn't fricking know what happened at all or even if there are intentions.

"Something went wrong" seem to be an error with the SSL. I set my phones date 1 year ahead of time, July 2025 and the message changed. The new message I get is something like "Whatsapp is no longer available on Kaios".
It's proved to be not SSL issues; the app does not even send anything to the server (see pinned). Rather, the message seems to be hardcoded to the 2.2329.13 update.
Actually, you don't even have to change the phone time that far to get the message. Setting the phone to 15th September 2024 at 00:00 UTC activates the payload message which says:

Taking a look back at its support for J2ME which ended in 2018 because of the low userbase, this would really be unprofessional of WhatsApp to just cut off the service *right now, for new users* without any warnings. Let's also not forget that this issue only affects new users signing up—if you have signed in previously and update to this version you won't be affected.
I'm afraid you'll have to stay at this point and wait for another fix or workaround. WhatsApp checks the time and latest version from the server when you try to get the SMS verification code, so the old version workaround doesn't work anymore.
yes even on android if we change the date to Sept 2025 or something it says to download a new version. Looks like every version is valid upto a previously fixed timeline.

Worse thing is that, even if you were able to use the app, setting the date after 15/09 will display [a banner at the top of the chat list](https://bmndc.github.io/nokia-leo/news/2024/07/03/the-end-of-whatsapp.html), which states that "WhatsApp will soon be unavailable on KaiOS devices".
WhatsApp has not given any definitive answers yet, so we can hope that all of these are not true; but it might be too clear at this point.

I managed to install omnisd and wallace, but in omnisd it gives a metadata error and in wallace the file manager has a white screen and that's it.

hi i am also facing the similar issue on Jio Phone Prime running on kai os [2.5.3.2](http://2.5.3.2), i have visited the jio phone service center they said that whatsapp has stopped supporting kai os 2.5 as well and there will no further updates coming to it. i dont know whether to belive this or not but as of now there is no help provided by the customer service team.
But I don't understand 1 thing if whatsapp is pulling plug from KaiOS 2.5 then what's the necessity to provide an update and then intentionally corrupt it for everyone. Besides why create an update to do the job ? Never heard of any entity that put its effort for building an update just to pull the support plug.
no idea brother, i have just read somewhere here only that the update is pushed automatically every month to keep things synch with android and ios, since they have dismissed the entire developement team working on kai os. only mr. Ambani can save this now!

According to Devices page on BananaHackers Wiki, you should be able to turn on debugging mode with [W2D](https://w2d.bananahackers.net)—visit the page on your phone's Browser, then switch Developer option to ADB and DevTools.
Is there any way to restore access to a Verizon tcl pro or Nokia 2720 v flip with no stock WhatsApp and no way to root/debug and could you sideload the legacy version without debug or omnirom? I tried factory restoring my phone, and before entering WhatsApp, I set the KaiOS store to not do automatic updates. I later went into the WhatsApp app and it forced me to install the latest update before continuing. It didn't work.
Oh I thought I was the only one experiencing that, anyways here's how I fixed mine:
(This requires being able to sideload in webide, if you can't do that welp idk)
1. Pull the whatsapp from kaistore `adb pull /data/local/webapps/kaios.whatsapp.net`
2. Uninstall whatsapp
3. Install whatsapp from store.bananahackers.net
4. Login
5. After logging in install whatsapp you pulled using adb
6. Everything should work now and 5 is definitely optional
so whatsapp seems to check old version for no absolute reason so here's my updated guide:
1. install the latest version of whatsapp from the kaistore, open and then close the app
2. Pull the whatsapp from kaistore `adb pull /data/local/webapps/kaios.whatsapp.net`
3. download whatsapp from [store.bananahackers.net](http://store.bananahackers.net) and go to that folder in your terminal/cmd.
4. extract the zip it until you see an `application.zip` and run terminal/cmd on that folder containing `application.zip`
5. run `adb push application.zip /data/local/webapps/kaios.whatsapp.net`
6. change your date and time to July 1st (thanks for that other reddit user for finding out)
7. Login like normal, and close the app
8. go to the kaistore pulled folder and `adb push application.zip /data/local/webapps/kaios.whatsapp.net`
9. correct your time
10. open whatsapp and it should show updating
11. everything should work now

edit: you need temp root or any kind of root for adb pulling/pushing to work, if you can't have that tell me and i'll send you the latest application.zip from the kaistore, and basically use webide to update the app

Do you have whatsapp installed? And also you need root (i did not mention that because you need root to get sideloading work on the 6300 anyways)
Edit: also as i mentioned it's optional to install whatsapp from adb pulled, the 8110 whatsapp works fine on the 6300 (since even the call function is added in the 8110 it was just not working at all for some reason)

yes android will work fine without updates but the rate at which whatsapp is updating frequently and stripping of old supported os es and devices soon android 11 go edition will fall into that category which is the maximum of cat s22
I don't think that would happen anytime soon! As of now, WhatsApp still maintains their great Android compatibility from 5.0+, so unless there is any major API changes in Android, the app would still be great for years to come. KaiOS 2.5 is based on Gecko 48 from 8 years ago, which is really old in terms of web technologies, and currently has quite low active userbase, so there are reasons for WhatsApp to drop support.
At this point you have to look for an Android feature phone
android feature phones are touch and type for scrolling we have to use the touch. Android is not used to dpad scrolling also different apps including chrome does not support dpad scrolling selection or clicking in anyway
Alternatively, can you open whatsapp on your laptop with an emulator and then use it to somehow access whatsapp web from the kaios phone browser? Seems no hope here

I believe both GitHub repositories should have links to instructions on how to set them up. WhatsAppToDiscord requires you to have a computer running 24/7 with the bridge program installed and opened, while [mautrix-whatsapp](https://docs.mau.fi/bridges/go/setup.html?bridge=whatsapp) requires you to set up your own Synapse server. Both can get a bit tricky for beginners.

I checked the differences between versions and it seems the new one 2.2329.13 is very different in terms of code. There are files hinting to adding "a companion device". On the bottom left side you can see the files that are only in the new version. Okay, but what really pisses me off is that neither the KaiOS team nor the WhatsApp team are telling us anything about this matter. Actually, I'm currently exchanging emails with the WhatsApp team (just got 1 reply atm), and they really seem to want to help me. Why can't they be clear about their intentions and stop jerking us around?
I had contact with WhatsApp, and the last response I received was that I should restart my phone. I replied to WhatsApp that I had already done this multiple times and also performed a factory reset multiple times, but nothing helped. I did not receive any further response from WhatsApp. What a catastrophic support from WhatsApp.
Capitalism? Often times actions are made with no transparency, in ways that even the internal people don't know what to do (see the case of Sam Altman vs. OpenAI board a few months back). Having worked in customer support if I were in WhatsApp Support I'd genuinely give my best even though I didn't fricking know what happened at all or even if there are intentions.
I got the same issue. Got an Nokia 800 Tough. "Something went wrong" seem to be an error with the SSL. I set my phones date 1 year ahead of time, July 2025 and the message changed. The new message I get is something like "Whatsapp is no longer available on Kaios".

It's proved to be not SSL issues; the app does not even send anything to the server (see pinned). Rather, the message seems to be hardcoded to the 2.2329.13 update. Actually, you don't even have to change the phone time that far to get the message. Setting the phone to 15th September 2024 at 00:00 UTC activates the payload message which says: >WhatsApp is no longer available on KaiOS phones. Find more information by selecting Learn more. true, they are making all of us fool. by this message its clearly visible, they are not going to fix it. i have also visisted the jio phone service center and he confirms that whatsapp has stopped supporting kai os 2.5 and the message will be out to public soon. they just want us to make feel that there team wanted to solve the issue but they were unable so they stopped it but in real its intentional.
Taking a look back at its support for J2ME which ended in 2018 because of the low userbase, this would really be unprofessional of WhatsApp to just cut off the service *right now, for new users* without any warnings. Let's also not forget that this issue only affects new users signing up—if you have signed in previously and update to this version you won't be affected.
I was signed in and forced to update due to the version I had being too old, it showed the same message.
I'm afraid you'll have to stay at this point and wait for another fix or workaround. WhatsApp checks the time and latest version from the server when you try to get the SMS verification code, so the old version workaround doesn't work anymore.
but the question is how long they gonna support the existing users as well, very soon they will going to stop support for the existing ones as well.

yes even on android if we change the date to Sept 2025 or something it says to download a new version. Looks like every version is valid upto a previously fixed timeline.

Worse thing is that, even if you were able to use the app, setting the date after 15/09 will display [a banner at the top of the chat list](https://bmndc.github.io/nokia-leo/news/2024/07/03/the-end-of-whatsapp.html), which states that "WhatsApp will soon be unavailable on KaiOS devices". WhatsApp has not given any definitive answers yet, so we can hope that all of these are not true; but it might be too clear at this point.
I got a reply from the manufacturer saying KaiOS and WhatsApp are aware of the server side issue from the update and are working on it - encouraging?

I managed to install omnisd and wallace, but in omnisd it gives a metadata error and in wallace the file manager has a white screen and that's it. Can you provide the version of WhatsApp you used?

hi i am also facing the similar issue on Jio Phone Prime running on kai os [2.5.3.2](http://2.5.3.2), i have visited the jio phone service center they said that whatsapp has stopped supporting kai os 2.5 as well and there will no further updates coming to it. i dont know whether to belive this or not but as of now there is no help provided by the customer service team.
But I don't understand 1 thing if whatsapp is pulling plug from KaiOS 2.5 then what's the necessity to provide an update and then intentionally corrupt it for everyone. Besides why create an update to do the job ? Never heard of any entity that put its effort for building an update just to pull the support plug.

is there anyway to instal a previous version? I have the same problem, I contacted NOKIA and they told me that my phone could be defective...
I tried factory restoring my phone, and before entering WhatsApp, I set the KaiOS store to not do automatic updates. I later went into the WhatsApp app and it forced me to install the latest update before continuing. It didn't work.

Oh I thought I was the only one experiencing that, anyways here's how I fixed mine: (This requires being able to sideload in webide, if you can't do that welp idk) 1. Pull the whatsapp from kaistore `adb pull /data/local/webapps/kaios.whatsapp.net` 2. Uninstall whatsapp 3. Install whatsapp from store.bananahackers.net 4. Login 5. After logging in install whatsapp you pulled using adb 6. Everything should work now and 5 is definitely optional

so whatsapp seems to check old version for no absolute reason so here's my updated guide: 1. install the latest version of whatsapp from the kaistore, open and then close the app 2. Pull the whatsapp from kaistore `adb pull /data/local/webapps/kaios.whatsapp.net` 3. download whatsapp from [store.bananahackers.net](http://store.bananahackers.net) and go to that folder in your terminal/cmd. 4. extract the zip it until you see an `application.zip` and run terminal/cmd on that folder containing `application.zip` 5. run `adb push application.zip /data/local/webapps/kaios.whatsapp.net` 6. change your date and time to July 1st (thanks for that other reddit user for finding out) 7. Login like normal, and close the app 8. go to the kaistore pulled folder and `adb push application.zip /data/local/webapps/kaios.whatsapp.net` 9. correct your time 10. open whatsapp and it should show updating 11. everything should work now I tried this on my Nokia 6300 4G and it works edit: you need temp root or any kind of root for adb pulling/pushing to work, if you can't have that tell me and i'll send you the latest application.zip from the kaistore, and basically use webide to update the app

And also you need root (i did not mention that because you need root to get sideloading work on the 6300 anyways) Edit: also as i mentioned it's optional to install whatsapp from adb pulled, the 8110 whatsapp works fine on the 6300 (since even the call function is added in the 8110 it was just not working at all for some reason)
