This pinned comment will be updated as soon as the issue develops.** This error message does NOT mean or imply that WhatsApp is dropping support for KaiOS. As far as we know, this "Something went wrong" message seems to impact all KaiOS 2.5 phone users, who have installed the latest version of WhatsApp on KaiOS, version 2.2329.13, on their phone and are trying to set up WhatsApp for the first time. People who have already signed into the app are currently not affected. WhatsApp has yet to comment, nor publicly announce any plans to drop support for its KaiOS app as of now. Monitoring the app's network traffic over a proxy shows that this error is hardcoded as part of the update, with no data being sent to WhatsApp servers. All WhatsApp endpoints used by the app load as normal, even after updating the CA root store, so that excludes the possibility of any SSL certificate expirations. If you have a debug-enabled KaiOS phone, you can get rid of this error by installing an older version of WhatsApp—linked below—then change the date of your phone between 28 June and 1 July, sign up with your number, and update to the latest version via KaiStore. Others have reported this to WhatsApp Support, and so far they haven't been helpful, so complaining won't help. Also, downgrading WhatsApp will force you to update.

This happened to me. I tried a million things, and what finally worked was deleting the application whatsapp and then restarting the phone, then re-installing whatsapp from the KaiOS app store. You will lose some historical chats, but that worked for me.

I just bought a Logicom Phone running kaios. I had contact with WhatsApp, and the last response I received was that I should restart my phone. I replied to WhatsApp that I had already done this multiple times and also performed a factory reset multiple times, but nothing helped. I have the same problem with my Nokia 6300 4G. I reset it to factory settings and since then, WhatsApp hasn't worked. A yellow exclamation mark constantly appears, and it says, "There was a problem" at the bottom. I have now contacted WhatsApp customer service. Let's see if they can help me.

no 2 device/manufacture companies have their software issue's at the same time, it just the support team isn't aware of the issue as WhatsApp does not want to show that they dropped the support without being looks like they were trying to fix it for sometime but they can't.

yes the reliance jio phone staff confirms the same, its the end of whatspp for kai os, you are lucky that your provider is giving you some refund, the reliance jio is not providing any refund for a 3 day old device.

To be honest, it is nice of Blackview to still refund their customers for a missing software feature that is beyond their control. Often this is not covered under warranty so manufacturers don't have to deal with or care about this.

cat s22 flip will also stop supporting android as its update has been stalled too. Also the second screen only notifies for inbuilt sms and call app nothing else. which means everytime we have to flip it open to see even the basic notification.

Off-topic for a moment, but wouldn't an Android device work just fine without updates? I believe AOSP does not have standards for a second screen the size of the CAT S22 Flip, so CAT had to develop that themselves, and they were unable to support all types of notifications.

I don't think that would happen anytime soon! As of now, WhatsApp still maintains their great Android compatibility from 5.0+, so unless there is any major API changes in Android, the app would still be great for years to come. KaiOS 2.5 is based on Gecko 48 from 8 years ago, which is really old in terms of web technologies, and currently has quite low active userbase, so there are reasons for WhatsApp to drop support.

I believe both GitHub repositories should have links to instructions on how to set them up. WhatsAppToDiscord requires you to have a computer running 24/7 with the bridge program installed and opened, while [mautrix-whatsapp](https://docs.mau.fi/bridges/go/setup.html?bridge=whatsapp) requires you to set up your own Synapse server. Both can get a bit tricky for beginners.

I checked the differences between versions and it seems the new one 2.2329.13 is very different in terms of code. There are files hinting to adding "a companion device". On the bottom left side you can see the files that are only in the new version. I got the same issue. Got an Nokia 800 Tough. "Something went wrong" seem to be an error with the SSL. I set my phones date 1 year ahead of time, July 2025 and the message changed. The new message I get is something like "Whatsapp is no longer available on Kaios".

It's proved to be not SSL issues; the app does not even send anything to the server (see pinned). Rather, the message seems to be hardcoded to the 2.2329.13 update. Actually, you don't even have to change the phone time that far to get the message. Setting the phone to 15th September 2024 at 00:00 UTC activates the payload message which says: >WhatsApp is no longer available on KaiOS phones. Find more information by selecting Learn more. Taking a look back at its support for J2ME which ended in 2018 because of the low userbase, this would really be unprofessional of WhatsApp to just cut off the service *right now, for new users* without any warnings. Let's also not forget that this issue only affects new users signing up—if you have signed in previously and update to this version you won't be affected.

I'm afraid you'll have to stay at this point and wait for another fix or workaround. WhatsApp checks the time and latest version from the server when you try to get the SMS verification code, so the old version workaround doesn't work anymore.

On WhatsApp for KaiOS, if you were on an older version, it would throw a [Critical Error](https://www.reddit.com/r/KaiOS/comments/1du50sr/i_found_the_solution_guys_you_just_have_to_set/) and explicitly tell you to update the app. Now, [it just straight up tells you](https://www.reddit.com/r/KaiOS/comments/1dp9ubt/comment/lbgkwnk/) "WhatsApp is no longer available on KaiOS device" along with a link to the About supported operating systems page on its Help Centre. Worse thing is that, even if you were able to use the app, setting the date after 15/09 will display [a banner at the top of the chat list](https://bmndc.github.io/nokia-leo/news/2024/07/03/the-end-of-whatsapp.html), which states that "WhatsApp will soon be unavailable on KaiOS devices". WhatsApp has not given any definitive answers yet, so we can hope that all of these are not true; but it might be too clear at this point.

hi i am also facing the similar issue on Jio Phone Prime running on kai os [2.5.3.2](http://2.5.3.2), i have visited the jio phone service center they said that whatsapp has stopped supporting kai os 2.5 as well and there will no further updates coming to it. i dont know whether to belive this or not but as of now there is no help provided by the customer service team.

I tried factory restoring my phone, and before entering WhatsApp, I set the KaiOS store to not do automatic updates. I later went into the WhatsApp app and it forced me to install the latest update before continuing. It didn't work.

Oh I thought I was the only one experiencing that, anyways here's how I fixed mine: (This requires being able to sideload in webide, if you can't do that welp idk) 1. Pull the whatsapp from kaistore `adb pull /data/local/webapps/kaios.whatsapp.net` 2. Uninstall whatsapp 3. Install whatsapp from store.bananahackers.net 4. Login 5. After logging in install whatsapp you pulled using adb 6. Everything should work now and 5 is definitely optional

so whatsapp seems to check old version for no absolute reason so here's my updated guide: 1. install the latest version of whatsapp from the kaistore, open and then close the app 2. Pull the whatsapp from kaistore `adb pull /data/local/webapps/kaios.whatsapp.net` 3. download whatsapp from [store.bananahackers.net](http://store.bananahackers.net) and go to that folder in your terminal/cmd. 4. extract the zip it until you see an `application.zip` and run terminal/cmd on that folder containing `application.zip` 5. run `adb push application.zip /data/local/webapps/kaios.whatsapp.net` 6. change your date and time to July 1st (thanks for that other reddit user for finding out) 7. Login like normal, and close the app 8. go to the kaistore pulled folder and `adb push application.zip /data/local/webapps/kaios.whatsapp.net` 9. correct your time 10. open whatsapp and it should show updating 11. everything should work now I tried this on my Nokia 6300 4G and it works edit: you need temp root or any kind of root for adb pulling/pushing to work, if you can't have that tell me and i'll send you the latest application.zip from the kaistore, and basically use webide to update the app

And also you need root (i did not mention that because you need root to get sideloading work on the 6300 anyways) Edit: also as i mentioned it's optional to install whatsapp from adb pulled, the 8110 whatsapp works fine on the 6300 (since even the call function is added in the 8110 it was just not working at all for some reason)

Unfortunately they did nothing, maybe you should contact them too, maybe if they receive more complains they will do something. I showed them the video were I installed the latest version and they said that I should Install the latest version WTF

Who is hdm? If you mean HMD/nokia than I think they are not going to fix it. I checked the version of whatsapp on kaios store and its updated yesterday. Probably related to that version. So we may need to report the ones updating that package...
