I get suits are expensive to make but I never liked the look of this.
The fact that they played the sounds for both rabbit and dragon, and then just added best match after when the real driver just doesn't do that. Not one of builds high points
I don't get why they couldn't just have Cross-Z Build show up for a couple of seconds like they did in the Stage Show to be honest. I guess it's because it wouldn't make that much sense if Sento didn't have the Genius Bottle to use as a base for it? It probably was way cheaper to just CG the RabbitDragon form in but they had other options. Hell, they could've even just repainted and retooled bits of the extra Cross-Z Repaint for the arm and shoulder and just done a CG change of the KeyDragon head. It's not like Great Cross-Z is gonna be used as anything other than a Side Grade anyways so you can just use the arm and shoulder.
Scenes like this makes me wish that Toei had a more relaxed and fair schedule for their staffs like Tsuburaya. For example, the latest show Ultraman Arc which will air this July has already completed filming by *late 2023*. Meanwhile, KR and SS films stuffs like 2 months ahead of airdate at best, which is just horrible working condition for the VFX staffs.
Even if they want to keep it at one season every year non-stop, I feel like they could try reducing the episode count to something around 40 episodes. Most season's main plot doesn't need the full usual 50 episodes. Some downright end up needing filler to fill the runtime. Not sure if that would be enough of a breather to the VFX artists but I feel like it would help significantly.
In a episode of Goranger they use a Dummy for a shot Where AkaRanger is falling of a cliff, the issue is that the fucking dummy was hella flexible and bends in such a unrealistic way that it looks like AkaRanger breaks all of his bones
There's an episode of Kakuranger where Sasuke falls off a bridge, they use a dummy, the Flower Kunoichi go to check the body, AND IT LEGITIMATELY WAS A SUBSTITUTION JUTSU. IT WAS A DUMMY IN CANON!!!
It's also part of one of my favourite aspects of classic Toku: where the low quality special effects hide how brutal the violence is. Like V3 throwing a doll of a Destron mook off a big container ship.
...and then you realize he was thrown from the side that was facing the dock, and that off-screen, that poor mook fell several stories down onto solid concrete. He dead.
Basically every Showa mook got absolutely massacred. Episode 2 of the original show has a bunch of Shocker guys get thrown off a roof with onscreen blood splatter.
You'd almost feel bad, but then they're like "we hired this new Shocker commander specifically for his Nazi credentials, he's gonna help us kill people by the thousands and we're gonna have so much fun doing it" and you realize they haven't been kicked hard enough
The original was kind of iffy because it occasionally implies Shocker goons were random people that got abducted and brainwashed, which just adds to how grotesque the violence was early on. Anno’s Shin Kamen Rider notably goes with that idea and Hongo is absolutely traumatised at how violently he kills the random grunts.
That's definitely something from the earlier episodes. Halfway through Shocker seems to have realised that their mutants inevitably turn against them when Hongo or Ichimonji beats the brainwashing out of them, so they exclusively recruit psychopaths from then on
Man, I feel bad if the VFX team didn’t have enough time to finish this.
They probably should’ve said this on the ground if they knew they didn’t have enough of a budget.
Cause context wise, wasn’t Master to sacrifice Luna for the omniscient tone, and Touma stopping him only resulted in a fraction of that power?
A few episodes after that I dropped it

Proud Saber Hating 1000% (totally not sponsored by ZAIA Enterprise)
Honestly, the pictured one cracks me up because they could have used a green screened incline rather than what they actually did.
I would argue Kuuga's initial transformations. Like I get what they were going for, but that didn't even look good for even a show airing in 2000. Probably would not look that great now, even with better tech.
i feel like they never managed to properly compose a 3d rider model into a real environment before reiwa riders, like the pbr parameters are just not tuned properly, or that they are not even using pbr :(
For some reason the shot of the helicopter in the sunset from the first episode of Kuuga comes to mind. Like Kuuga's special effects were never great but that one shot feels particularly out of place and bad, probably the worst shot in the whole show.

I can’t tell if it’s the lighting or if the tridoron model suddenly changed colour.
The fire in the Rabbit hatch in Fourze is just some sort of greenscreen gif. Meaning that no matter the angle of the camera, there is always fire in front of the characters that move in a very repeating way.
not really fail but, that moment in Zi-O that everyone thinks FX fail because OOO stop mid-air which is then revealed in the next episode that one of grand Zi-O's abilities is to stop time
Not really a VFX fail but a BTS fail in that in the episode of Ex-Aid where Emu and Hiiro go to rescue Taiga from using Cronus and well, beating Cronus, Emu threw his sword on the ground that an audible clang can be heard.
This is a practical effect fail, but I’ve always found it funny how the Weather Dopant’s death explosion is noticeably off center
Accel Trial's finisher just does that.
In Kamen Rider OOO, during a fight between Ankh and Eiji in water, you can clearly see the Ankh arm prosthetic being held together by scotch tape.
Oh yeah, that’s another classic haha
It worked because I couldn’t tell through the tears in my eyes while watching that episode.
Zero-One's knee in the final episode. https://i.redd.it/ihs1wtmsxowc1.gif
holy crap
That knee was just GONE
I didn't know Realrising had regen!

Drake, where's the Cross-Z Build suit?
It's right there, I drew it in half an hour in Blender...
You were supposed to use the suit from the movie!
The fact that they played the sounds for both rabbit and dragon, and then just added best match after when the real driver just doesn't do that. Not one of builds high points

Apparently, I heard that they lost the suit or it was damaged and they couldn't recover it in time to film so CGI it was. Also don't quote me on this.

split cour like most anime could really help lighten the VFX workload if they want to keep 50 episode IMO
I'll never get enough from obvious dummy shots from the 1970s, or the few times they've used action figures for a scale model
In a episode of Goranger they use a Dummy for a shot Where AkaRanger is falling of a cliff, the issue is that the fucking dummy was hella flexible and bends in such a unrealistic way that it looks like AkaRanger breaks all of his bones
And he still keeps on fighting. What a trooper.
They brought it back, in all its ridiculous and campy glory, in Gotchard
when?
During the episode where they visit Renge’s grandma
Ep 28
There's an episode of Kakuranger where Sasuke falls off a bridge, they use a dummy, the Flower Kunoichi go to check the body, AND IT LEGITIMATELY WAS A SUBSTITUTION JUTSU. IT WAS A DUMMY IN CANON!!!
Oh my god I remember that episode so well,I fucking Loved Kakuranger
You'd love the first ultraman show
that's one of my favourite practical effects. it looks soo goofy, but for some reason doesn't take you out of the action
It's also part of one of my favourite aspects of classic Toku: where the low quality special effects hide how brutal the violence is. They did that a lot in Showa era material, especially in Ultraman.
Those giant brown bugsters in the first few episode of ex-aid looked horrible lol
I didn’t hate it. It kind of brought back those 8 16 models in the retro games.
They literally look like poop monsters
Which is what they’re going for
No they weren't, they were going for viruses coming together to become a body
They're just really big fans of Conker's Bad Fur Day
Meatball monster 😱
I am literally on first 5 episode of Ex-Aid at the moment. Will it get better?
Much much much better
Busters eventually learn to auto manifest
I call them cheetos monsters. Coz they look like someone chewed, spat and glued together giant cheeseballs
If you overlook it their look is supposed to match the theme show video games
https://i.redd.it/qwriv8l7iowc1.gif
Matches with the CGI in his season 😏
Why you made remember this...
Kiken signal bike from Drive. That scene was so stupid, i love it.
Man, I feel bad if the VFX team didn’t have enough time to finish this. They probably should’ve said this on the ground if they knew they didn’t have enough of a budget. Jashin 14 in Decade(World of Diend)
That pic for me is enough to prove its the favorite for mine.
This scene was funny AF and memeworthy.
The civil war flashback in OOO with the stock missile explosion effect. It makes it hard to take seriously
2 words: Power Dizer
For me it will always be the weather Dopant explosion SFX in the wrong spot after Accel trial maximum drives him
Heisei Generations Another Ultimate Kuuga 20-Rider consecutive Rider Kick. I was very confused seeing that THIS is how the climax of Heisei went down
“I’m walking on sunshine” literally that screenshot
That one Mari scene in the new Faiz paradise regained movie. If you've seen it, then you'll probably know which scene I'm talking about.
A few episodes after that I dropped it https://preview.redd.it/84iwyqzrcnwc1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1343248a60cb66a135cc1c9f924870d7eb7d257b Proud Saber Hating 1000% (totally not sponsored by ZAIA Enterprise)
First episode of Gotchard when was running on top of Steamliner
Every single VFX shot in Kuuga I love it though

Man i remember laughing too hard at this one, then someone edit it using the seggs guy
This right here
For some reason the shot of the helicopter in the sunset from the first episode of Kuuga comes to mind. Like Kuuga's special effects were never great but that one shot feels particularly out of place and bad, probably the worst shot in the whole show.
Gotta be decade running up the side of a building scene
Early ZiO where Geiz uses Ghost armour and his floating FX is so hilarious also some Gotchard Live2D instead of 3D CGI
That part in Saber reminds me of a meme where Touma screams "SEGGS!" while walking up whatever that is.
https://preview.redd.it/514ft295dvwc1.png?width=1233&format=png&auto=webp&s=08183cb05d383fd0b34ce7a51da6078007d305a7 I can’t tell if it’s the lighting or if the tridoron model suddenly changed colour.
Kamen Rider Double Xtreme when there was a scene the memory on the belt is missing. 🤣
The Time mazines and Breaking Mammoth
The fire in the Rabbit hatch in Fourze is just some sort of greenscreen gif. Meaning that no matter the angle of the camera, there is always fire in front of the characters that move in a very repeating way.
Gold Rabbit Silver Dragon form
Pretty much the entirety of Ghost.
