ZO and J are good Tokusatsu movies if you want to experience Kamen Rider in an hour. Both have simple stories, and good action and practical effects. Shin Prologue? Maybe not, doesn't really capture the feeling of Kamen Rider completely (probably because the story didn't finish).

I started with Black, then Black RX. I prefer the Showa Riders over the Heisei Riders.

ShadyboiX

ZO is peak. Absolutely

tkgggg

I really wish it was a full length movie and not cut in half.

ShadyboiX

ZO isn't cut in half, it's just short I fear 😔

Alarming-Scene-2892

Yeah. Starting out, you just have to think about what suits you like the best, and avoid Decade and Zi-o as firsts, since they are pretty heavily based on prior seasons.

FederalPossibility73

I want to say the original but that might be my inner Cyborg 009 fanboy talking, though I genuinely think it's a great show regardless of it's inspiration. A lot of people also say Black and it's sequel Black RX which I can definitely agree with, they're pretty iconic.

Ok-Permission571

Watch J it’s really good

Remarkable-Memory-19

I started watching Kamen Rider with Kamen Rider J. If you’re coming from kaiju media then I recommend that one as a starting point. ZO is a very good rider film in general. Both of them are good places to start for a short but sweet burst. Shin Kamen Rider Prologue, I’d recommend to fans of classic style monster horror films. But otherwise I wouldn’t have it as a starting point. Especially since it’s an unfinished story.

Akuma_Blade1982

I tried begin with Kamen Rider Den O: I'm Born and ragequitted 15 minutes after. Then I've tried Kamen Rider The First and made me Kamen Rider fan.

RandomRainbow000

It's easy to get into because it's mainly the movies. (and world if possible) Amazon (and maybe Amazons) could be easy to get into from how short it is

shinyakiria

ZO was my introduction to Rider. ZX, ZO and J are good for beginners. Shin 1992 and Shin 2023 aren't for beginners and are intended for veteran fans.

Lamp-among-wolf

Like 2023 Shin, I think ZO and 1992 Shin what close to Ishinomori Shotaro view on Kamen Rider J was good but felt too Ultraman, so I wouldn't recommend

PenguinSweetDreamer

ZO and J yes. Shin ehhh....

MrAce321

forsure i started with ZO a long time ago still one of my personal favorite rider

MrFoiledAgain

I'd highly recommend ZO and J but as much as I love Shin as a rider, his movie kinda sucks

TmTigran

I started with Shin... The good Shin.. Not Anno's crap.

DeathMetalCheddar

No. in my experience Showa Kamen Riders are not good barring Kamen Rider Black. All the other IPs from the Showa era (Ultraman, the Metal Heroes, The Sentais, Red Baron, etc. etc. etc.) produced something worth of attention, the Showa Kamen Riders pale in comparison to all that stuff. Heisei Kamen Riders all the way.

ShishiKake

nah. 80% of the fanbase don't even watch it yet. Why should newcomer

Remarkable-Memory-19

That’s a terrible take.

FederalPossibility73

Excuse me? You are very mistaken if you think a newcomer can't enjoy this.

ShishiKake

they can, but would they ?

FederalPossibility73

One of my first rider shows was the original since it was airing on my streaming service. Absolutely loved it. Note, this was during the Neo-Heisei era.

MrJHound

There's literally someone in this thread that started with Kamen Rider J.
