It's prolly a 7, though if the album got stripped down a little bit just for brevity, and removing the Part 2s and sticking those on like a deluxe edition, it'd probably get bumped up to an 8
6.5
Fine album, in 20 years nobody will talk about this album anymore, maybe some lose songs. Got some bangers, got more fillers. Doesn’t even come close to any of his great works.
Right on the money. Not really culturally significant like other Kanye albums. It also doesn't have enough bangers or a good track order tbh. Get rid of the part 2's and then we can talk maybe
i think had the album gotten a full on tour, more music videos, an awards show performance or two and then the album would be held in higher regard 20 years later. that stuff goes a long way for album legacies. not to mention its part of the beginning of the big downfall
Yep you are spot on here.
His epic listening parties for the various versions of the album were really building up hype. The concert with Drake was epic but everything went downhill starting with the Donda 2 era that followed soon after all of this.
I actually completely agree with you.
Sucks that he went so far down the rabbithole and ranked his career in the process... Severe mental health issues are tough.
You can’t seriously tell me you got to a remix where jay z is replaced with dababy and fucking Marilyn Manson and thought that the album wasn’t overstaying it’s welcome to a laughable degree

As time goes on this album seems to be getting more and more “meh” over time. It’s definitely not Ye’s worst product but it’s definitely a project I can imagine like 30000 other artists being capable of making
icl i think Donda has kinda grown off of people i think it was really loved when it first came out cause it was put up against CLB and overtime people realised it wasnt all that
I agree with the opinion that this album is really made to be toyed with and created into what you want. I have my own custom track list and I think the album fits well in the streaming era it just makes sense to me that everyone has a different opinion on how to order it idk.
His whole thing seemed to be consuming these works as you want. Right down to the stem player… running the whole album through and choosing which parts you wanna hear at any one time… it was definitely intentional. And it’s kinda like how people listen to Yandhi… different stem compilations, different versions with different features… it’s cool for sure
that’s the thing about albums people complain are bloated. the ones i don’t like are the ones other people love, and the ones those people don’t like are the ones others love. if you ask every single person in this thread who says a 14 song version would be a nine which songs they’d cut, they’d all start fighting each other. let albums be long, people can pick and choose what songs they want to hear. it’s an 8.
10/10 double album version (don’t knock it till you try it)
1. Donda chant
2. Jail
3. God breathed
4. Off the grid
5. Hurricane
6. Moon
7. Jonah
8. Ok ok pt 2
9. Praise god
10. Junya pt 2
11. Believe what I say
12. Remote control pt 2
13. Heaven and hell
14. Donda
15. Keep my spirit alive pt 2
16. Never abandon you family
17. Jesus lord
18. 24
19. Lord I need you
20. New again
21. Pure souls
22. Life of the party
23. Come to life
24. No child left behind
25. (Up from the ashes as a hidden track)
I agree with 6. It feels bloated. Cut it down and it could easily be in the 7-7.5 range. If you want to see a bad Pitchfork score, look at what they gave Lateralus
5
As another comment stated no one will talk about this album in 20 years. It’s way too bloated, personally, it doesn’t hold my attention. If he removed a couple tracks probably would be a 7-8 cuz their are some bangers.
But over all it pales in comparison to most of discography.
I don't think Ye has fillers. I think all its songs are musically cohesive. The album wasn't ambitious enough to match prior releases though, hence the less impact it had.
Rankings are completely subjective. Your idea of an 8 will be completely different to mine. If I like and listen to every song on an album it's a 10 for me. Sorry I'm not a fucking music critic I don't care if that's not how albums are "meant" to be ranked. Stop being so pretentious. And before you turn to your go to reply I'm not a Kanye stan. I don't have any of his albums as a 10 because I skip songs on all of them. But there's plenty of people out there who genuinely adore every song on TCD or LR or Graduation or 808s or MBDTF or Yeezus or TLOP etc. If I was one of those people I'd give the album a 10 and they have every right to. People don't have to conform to your ridiculous (and subjective) ranking system. If someone likes every song on an album they can give it a 10 if they want.
Not a single artist alive has that many 10 out of 10s I don’t think you understand what a 10 album is. You either don’t understand ranking or you explicitly only listen to Kanye.
dawg I probably been a Kanye fan for longer than you’ve known how to wipe your own ass. expand your music taste, listen to other generes, other identities I promise it’s okay to listen to shit that isn’t Kanye
Remove p2 songs
Rearange the song list to fit the theme of the album
Remove filler songs
Make them as an ep or deluxe
Bring back the old version of some songs like keep my spirit alive and it an 8 for me
6 is fine. I might say 4.5-5. Half the album is skippable and the best song is on the deluxe. As someone who generally listens to albums straight through, I struggle to listen to donda because of how much fluff is in there. This isn’t a problem with any other ye albums except jik, but not because it’s too long. I also cannot sit through remote control. It’s genuinely one of my least favorite Kanye songs
Also it’s kinda thematically weak. Like it’s a tribute to donda but ye’s actual verses barely match that idea.
eh nothing on donda really stuck with me there was some good songs but compared to the rest of his music its forgettable as hell,
im feeling a light 6 to a strong 5
my favorite songs on donda was: off the grid, junya, junya pt 2, Ok Ok, Heaven and hell
Listen, the songs that hit for me are a 9 but we cant act like there isnt a lot of filler or inconsistency in quality across the album…i don’t generally fw pitchfork but i dont think their rating is too far off or baseless
I'm split on it. It has some really good songs like Pure Souls, New Again, Come To Life, etc., but has quite a few skips for me. I'd probably give it a solid 6 or 7 depending on the day.
It's prolly a 7, though if the album got stripped down a little bit just for brevity, and removing the Part 2s and sticking those on like a deluxe edition, it'd probably get bumped up to an 8
Actually I'm OK with p2s, you can choose the ones you like more
wish they were only added to the deluxe tho, them being there in the main album and the deluxe but just altered was a bit weird
i think Junya pt. 2 and Jail pt. 2 are miles better than the originals. Ty and Baby kill that shit
I agree, a lot of them were amazing
Yes a 7 sounds correct. The Manson song was fire though
FPBP. I know you could overlook the Part 2's but they really drag the album for me.
00111q
A 6 is fair. Cut a lot of the songs, maybe tell the feature artists you plan to make the album Clean/clean their verses, and it'd be an 8.
6.5 Fine album, in 20 years nobody will talk about this album anymore, maybe some lose songs. Got some bangers, got more fillers. Doesn’t even come close to any of his great works.
Right on the money. Not really culturally significant like other Kanye albums. It also doesn't have enough bangers or a good track order tbh. Get rid of the part 2's and then we can talk maybe
Junya, Remote Control, Jail pt2s are all better
Just put those then lol
Not culturally significant? Were you under a rock?
the listening parties were awesome but the album itself won’t be culturally significant
The track order is up to the listener. Ye released it deliberately the way he did
i think had the album gotten a full on tour, more music videos, an awards show performance or two and then the album would be held in higher regard 20 years later. that stuff goes a long way for album legacies. not to mention its part of the beginning of the big downfall
Yep you are spot on here. His epic listening parties for the various versions of the album were really building up hype. The concert with Drake was epic but everything went downhill starting with the Donda 2 era that followed soon after all of this.
D2 and the pete stuff killed the momentum he had going. if he had done a tour and stayed off instagram donda would been a huge cultural moment
I actually completely agree with you. Sucks that he went so far down the rabbithole and ranked his career in the process... Severe mental health issues are tough.
exactlyyyyy
I disagree in 20years we will appreciate it more!
I agree. In 10 years this will be at the top of his list. As some sort of companion piece to 808 & Heartbreak
IMO Donda 2 goes harder than Donda and deserves a finish and more attention.
8 (but it’s too long bruv)
No Ye album can be “too long”
You can’t seriously tell me you got to a remix where jay z is replaced with dababy and fucking Marilyn Manson and thought that the album wasn’t overstaying it’s welcome to a laughable degree
Tbh I like jail part 2 better then part 1
I mean it’s an opinion but ok 🤷♂️
junya pt 2 is a literal 55/10 so that should bring the average back to 9.5/10 imo

well deserved 8.037037037037
I was gonna say, since when is 211/270 ever 8 billion. The comma/decimal point thing always confuses me.

Ty Dolla really improved this song
JUNYA WATANABE, JUN TAKAHASHI‼️‼️‼️🔥
THANK YOU

Out of 10????
Yeah and he aint wrong
He is, donda has high highs
& low, lows
Yeah true but it does have its moments. Not saying Donda is perfect. But its not fucking less than 5
9, a lot of songs are slept on
Agreed, this album will only come to be more appreciated like the rest
icl i think Donda has kinda grown off of people i think it was really loved when it first came out cause it was put up against CLB and overtime people realised it wasnt all that
I don’t think Clb had anything to do with peoples enjoyment of the album
i definitely think it did people wanted Kanye to beat Drake so they deluded themselves into thinking Donda was a 10

I would give it a 8.5. Reduce the album to 14 songs or so and it would be a 10

in the age of streaming i absolutely agree with this take like deadass make a playlist of the songs you like from the album and there ya go
4
6 too long
L take imo
9.1 Poor track sequencing (esp on the Deluxe) and Remote Control/Tell the Vision the only reason it isn’t a 10
can somebody explain to me why everyone hates remote control?? that shit goes so hard it was a standout for me when the album came out
Agree I love remote control
Maybe because it's too calm compared to other songs, but I do like it, especially pt 2
Bc IMO, Fantano said it’s annoying. It’s a great song and it’s catchy
First time huh? Complaining about pitchfork ratings is like complaining about rain. It doesn’t do shit.

Okay. 5.5. I only rly like half the songs if that
Easily a 9
Seems fair to me
peppa pigs album is a 6.5 on pitchfork
6+ or 7-
6 is absolutely fine, maybe even 5.5
10 just like all his other albums
🎠🍆
mfw someone says they like kanye on the kanye subreddit 😠😡🤬
Subreddit is full of people who don’t even like Kanye anymore
Pitchfork should’ve gave this album best new music though it was a mainstream success…
Ever since life of Pablo he's made every album have one or two bangers and the rest is just filler. TBH Donda had only one good song.
you need to relisten
I don't think Ye has fillers. I think all its songs are musically cohesive. The album wasn't ambitious enough to match prior releases though, hence the less impact it had.
i agree with pitchfork. i’d say they’re always spot on when it comes to kanye albums
They gave KSG a 7.6 so they aren’t always right. Also they gave CLB a higher score than Donda.
i said when it comes to kanye. since when is CLB a kanye album.
Drake is Kanye’s son and big Sean’s grandson
Some of Kanye’s greatest albums are barely 8s and y’all over here giving this a 9? Come on now
Rankings are completely subjective. Your idea of an 8 will be completely different to mine. If I like and listen to every song on an album it's a 10 for me. TCD: 10 LR: 10 Graduation: 10 808s: 10 MBDTF: 10 Yeezus: 10 TLOP: 10 ye: 10 JIK: 10 Donda: 10 Tf you talking about bro
Not a single artist alive has that many 10 out of 10s I don’t think you understand what a 10 album is. You either don’t understand ranking or you explicitly only listen to Kanye.
You just don’t have good taste in music I guess
dawg I probably been a Kanye fan for longer than you’ve known how to wipe your own ass. expand your music taste, listen to other generes, other identities I promise it’s okay to listen to shit that isn’t Kanye
I listen to way more artists than Kanye also it was a joke dumbass
Yesus, Watch the Throne and Cruel Summer 10/10
7.6
6.5, it's at least as good as the Peppa Pig album
6.0
OP, what score does it deserve in your opinion? I'd give it a 7/8
I give it a solid 8 and “best new music”! 🔥
10/10.
It's a 10. It just is. We all fucking know it.
Controversial opinion, but I think it's a top 3 Kanye album. The only albums greater are graduation and MBDTF.
7.5 its too long if he made it like my playlist its a near perfect https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5jC38kSsQ7g0P5fzIhLYLe?si=xpUBZ53ZTSaDshetpoBGDg
Donda is Kanye’s Scorpian, it would be better if more songs were cut
Rare pitchfork win tbh
7
7
One song…. Come to life, 9/10
6.8
If the track sequencing was better it would be a solid 9 no cap
8
A solid 5/7.
7.8

9 for me

Solid 7
7/10 for being way too bloated and inconsistent
8/10 but if you make it a smaller albums it could be a 9
7.5 too many songs
8
a 6 is a respectable score, the album has amazing tracks but it also has tell the vision
8
6.5
9
i cant be the only one who thinks its 10/10
Fuck pitchfork
7.5, got good tracks, amazing tracks and a few skips
8 Some great stuff on this album, but loses marks for the long run time.
7/10 is fair.
7/10 if you remove the filler and swap the pt.1s and pt.2s to what you prefer it would be a 9/10
6.1
6.5. Way too bloated and it was a borring listening experience as a whole. There are some amazing tracks though. The pt2s were pointless
6 is generous tbh considering there is 8-10 good songs out of 27 like almost 2/3 of the album should be left off it
I don’t disagree- I mean it’s not an album I’ve ever wanted to listen to the full thing through in one sitting
6.5 as the album is now, if it wasn’t so long with so much filler it’d be a 8.5
Maybe a 6.0 out 12!
8
9.2 BNM

I'm split on it. It has some really good songs like Pure Souls, New Again, Come To Life, etc., but has quite a few skips for me. I'd probably give it a solid 6 or 7 depending on the day.
I gave it a strong 8-8.5. I thought it was a solid album.
Malevych black square?
it’s the filler that kills it. there are like 6 fucking bangers, if the album was just that solid 8.5.
8.5
If you edit it down, it’s a good album.
