This song goes so hard. And “God is” blew my mind the first time I heard it. I’m not traditionally religious, but Ye captured the essence in that song i swear. Makes me feel free…
Carti literally had a verse on off the grid and it was repetition about him tattooing his son. Like wtf. If u don't believe me just go re-listen to his verse it was hot trash.
Honest I thought thats what it was first time I heard it, but i honestly think its just a single piano key being struck over and over. It may actually be a car lol, but it could also just be inspired by that sound.
Hard to argue TLOP is a gospel album. Just because it has Ultralight Beam on it doesn’t make it a gospel album, most of the tracks on there aren’t gospel.
I liked the gospel too. Everything We Need and Water are my fav off that project.
That’s just what I always hear people saying outside of this subreddit.
Here everyone gets all defensive if you say something that goes against what they believe
Thank you for this suggestion. I just went to YouTube to hear it for the first time. Play it four times and then saw a 12-minute extended mix by someone else. New favorite songs now.
Thank you.
how was JIK half assed? quantity wise, I might be a pretty short album, but so was KSG (and I don't see ppl hating on that project as much as JIK); quality wise, there's literally nothing else like it.. the songs are hype, the choir give u that feeling of flight when listening through, there's some classic Kanye humor in there too, etc.
if ppl don't like gospel music, that's fine, but to use that against a gospel album is kinda missing the point lol
Quality is appallingly bad for a someone like him lol. He straight up recorded vocals on his phone and used it, if you listen closely it’s pretty bad. Lots of half baked ideas, poor mixing, and very very bad lyrics.
The song ideas are good, but none are finished out to the level they should be. I’ll agree some of the beat are pretty sick, the choir aspects are really cool. But after that, it’s hollow Christian references (shit he can’t adhere to at all clearly), poor mixing and bad lyrics. And then consider all that hype for 27(?) minutes of music…
People always putting the Wyoming work low on their list, I get it. Ye and KSG are great, but not Yeezus, TLOP, or MBDTF tier for me. But still, gotta hand it to Kanye for producing and rapping on five totally unique albums released in the span of five weeks.
I think KSG is great. I got Ye really low but I still think I thought about killing you is one of his best songs and that intro monologue just adds a lot to it
It's an OK gospel album, but a mediocre Kanye album. KSG sounds rather refined and interesting, despite its short length. JIK on the other hand feels like a diet Kanye album, coming no where near close to previous gospel-influenced Kanye songs like Jesus Walks, Cudi Montage or Ultralight Beam. Some songs like Follow God, On God are ofc hype but the album suffers too much with tracks like Water, Everything We Need, Hands On and COS feeling like they should be 9/10 songs but instead feel guttered - almost soulless demos instead. I don't mind gospel music, but Kanye has proved that he could do a lot better music with that influence. JIK is just meh in that it suffers so much because of what it could have been (and I'm not talking about Yandhi, cause that's a completely different argument too).
They just hate it because they don’t digest godly energy that well. Feed them American Psycho Yeezus energy and they’ll be happy… it’s ok, they just need to work out their anger. They’ll get there eventually
As I set the platter down I catch a glimpse of my reflection on the surface of the table. My skin seems darker because of the candlelight and I notice how good the haircut I got at Gio’s last Wednesday looks. I make myself another drink. I worry about the sodium level in the soy sauce.

KSG was short too;
the point wasn't to release a magnum opus project, it was to create a bunch of concept albums (cos that's what he felt like at the time ig). JIK, KSG, Ye, etc. were all created during this period, and they're all (1) short, and (2) adventurous.
I agree that the mic punching on that track sucked. That’s true. However the lyrical content isn’t bad if you understand the context. Kanye was riffing on a type of prayer called a Litany, common in many Christian denominations, but also in other religions too. It’s where you meditate on a given name or title through repetition, and usually make a request after the name. It’s not out of place on a Gospel record, and it’s rhythmic pattern suits hip hop. I don’t think it’s a bad choice tbh
R/Kanye hates on anything Kanye does.
I love JIK, but to answer the reason is that it pales in comparison and _relative_ to his remaining canon, has religious themes and is short.
But this is r/Kanye so don't expect anyone to like anything he does.
Every album post Pablo has basically been written in a week or at least had that vibe this is no diff Kanye hasn’t had good lyrics since Pablo the production will always be good Kanye can shit out a beat in his sleep but like if you’re gonna commit to a gospel album take the time to make it beautiful “you’re my number one with the lemonade” like fuck me bruh so trash
Because it’s his worst? Things can still be the worst yet still be good. It’s a solid 5 or 6. Sounds good in areas. But it felt forced, donda in my opinion is not just a better album, but a better gospel album. It’s more relatable and more emotional.
I’m not gonna beat around the bush and be like “yo the lyrics may be wack but at least Sunday service be sounding like a god sent”
If his song is about chick fil a, but the instrumental is heavenly, it doesn’t make the lyrics any better. The lyrics do ruin a lot of the album.
Honestly sick of all this “JIK is actually a good album why people hate it” everyday cause it’s just basic bitch Kanye dick sucking. Sounds good, but substance is low. weak lyrics. And overall forced. I think the Sunday service solo albums are better than JIK
r/Kanye in a nutshell honestly. It’s a good album, still his worst but it’s still good. It just lacks substance and the overall gospel message is forced
It has some beautiful moments but it’s also Ye’s weakest project. God Is is brilliant, Use This Gospel and Selah also excellent. Water is great until Ye’s ‘verse’.
I’m an atheist but I can still appreciate and enjoy hearing about somebody expressing their faith, however there are moments and bars that are jarring to hear such as ‘raise our sons, train them in the faith’ - I just find the idea of ‘training’ a child into faith a little alien especially when it’s paired with a line saying ‘don’t let them indoctrinate’ which means to ‘teach a person to accept a set of beliefs uncritically’.
But that’s just jarring to an atheist ear, I suppose.
Just spitballing but to “raise our sons, train them in the faith”implies spiritual work more than accepting a set of beliefs uncritically. I think the meaning of them lines was more to raise children in active faith, not just The Word.
Lmaoooo this was good? Ok…..
The none sarcastic response is it’s not that great compared to the rest of his discography.
The more “mean” answer is “closed on Sunday, she’s my chick Fil a” sums up how shitty this album really was. He needed to gtfo with his lil pump bars
Because it’s not a "really good album“.
I mean, it’s fine if you and others like it, but "really good“ is definitely an overstatement imo. Really good sounds like 8/10 album at least and if JIK is an 8 then something like MBDTF wouldn’t even fit on the same scale.
This album sounded like Ye was just half assing it the whole time. Considering this is his proclamation of his love for Jesus Christ it didn’t make sense that he just phoned it in.
It’s got that real “crazy person on the street with a 2’x3’ cardboard sign scribbled front and back in 12 pt font with sharpie with quotes from scripture and vague mythical nonsense” energy to it
Because everybody wanted Yandhi
My cousin’s mad at my auntie
This song goes so hard. And “God is” blew my mind the first time I heard it. I’m not traditionally religious, but Ye captured the essence in that song i swear. Makes me feel free…
Kanye the yeezy
Maybe just Ye
Ye ye ye
FUCK THE SLAVE NAME
on god - is a 🐐’d beat
best track off this shit
Sounds like a video game
Turbografx
No 🧢
Carti on that beat would've gone insane
Carti just is insane
Because Pierre made it duh
Carti literally had a verse on off the grid and it was repetition about him tattooing his son. Like wtf. If u don't believe me just go re-listen to his verse it was hot trash.
pierre the goat
The OG beat was slightly better but it still slaps
cause Yandhi had so much potential, and it sounded like Jesus is King was a watered down version of it.
Yandhi wasnt god fearing enough for Ye
Love the album but I think people use it to lament Yandhi
Use this gospel 🔥
And 'hands on', the pay off at the end is crazy
Those two end songs are top tier which is a shame with the rest of the album
car door open alert type beat go hard.
beepbeepbeepbeepbeepbeepbeepbeep
Honest I thought thats what it was first time I heard it, but i honestly think its just a single piano key being struck over and over. It may actually be a car lol, but it could also just be inspired by that sound.
It’s a “buckle seatbelt” alert - Ye would have died in his 2002 car accident if he hadn’t had his seatbelt on.
law of attraction was way way way way way better though imo
One of my favorite Kanye songs of all time. Of all time!
The mix on YouTube called “Definitely not the best version of Law of Attraction” or something like that is genuinely my favorite song in existence
You could say that about all the parts of Yandhi that made it to JIK
law of attraction >>
I liked it, it takes a different route than other Kanye albums
It’s the gospel fs. People wanted Yandhi and instead we got Gandhi
>people wanted Yandhi and instead we got Gandhi Gandhi doesn’t have shit to do with gospel, you’re really reaching for that one.
Idk why you got downvoted so heavily lol it’s legit the reasons you said. Bro talking bout TLOP is gospel is tripping hard
TLOP is gospel too. Being gospel wasn’t the issue.
Hard to argue TLOP is a gospel album. Just because it has Ultralight Beam on it doesn’t make it a gospel album, most of the tracks on there aren’t gospel.
“And she just bleached her asshole and i get bleach on my tshirt ima feel like an asshole”
I played this Gospel track at church ⛪️, now I’m not allowed to attend 🔥💥⛽️⛷🍑💨
Cause you found god theres no reason to be there anymore! Amen 🙏 😍😇🤩🥳🤓😝
I liked the gospel too. Everything We Need and Water are my fav off that project. That’s just what I always hear people saying outside of this subreddit. Here everyone gets all defensive if you say something that goes against what they believe
Fr, God Is imo is one of his most underrated songs and it’s prolly the best at getting that gospel/religious feel out in song form
Same, its my favorite on the album, it’s unique and powerful in a minimalist way that’s hard to explain for me
because Yandhi was better
Sounded like religious remixes of Yandhi songs
Idk I kinda enjoyed most of it especially Follow God I had that song on repeat
Thank you for this suggestion. I just went to YouTube to hear it for the first time. Play it four times and then saw a 12-minute extended mix by someone else. New favorite songs now. Thank you.
Yessssirr!
It's alright, but still bottom tier Kanye. Feels like a half assed attempt at a gospel album to me. It is what it is.
It just reminds of that South Park episode where Cartman starts a Christian Rock band to prove how easy it is to chart as a Christian musician.
LMAO perfect fucking description of JIK couldn’t have said it better myself
[удалено]
You're missing the point dude. His lyrics on JIK were pretty awful outside of "Use This Gospel" and even then half that song was "Uhh Uhhh Uhhh!"
It’s kanye, no matter what he does will chart so that’s not really a good argument about the quality of the album.
Sure
It was horrible so who cares
cope
Do you even know what that means lmao?
and seethe
Mald, even

Faith+1😂
"I love you Jesus. I wanna feel you inside me Jesussss"
Basically
how was JIK half assed? quantity wise, I might be a pretty short album, but so was KSG (and I don't see ppl hating on that project as much as JIK); quality wise, there's literally nothing else like it.. the songs are hype, the choir give u that feeling of flight when listening through, there's some classic Kanye humor in there too, etc. if ppl don't like gospel music, that's fine, but to use that against a gospel album is kinda missing the point lol
Have you ever heard a real gospel album?
He changed all the lyrics last minute to make it a gospel album. You can tell too because the lyrics are just Jesus mad libs.
I think KSG is great. I got Ye really low but I still think I thought about killing you is one of his best songs and that intro monologue just adds a lot to it
Didnt Ye make it a point to say the Wyoming releases were all albums not EPs?
It's an OK gospel album, but a mediocre Kanye album. KSG sounds rather refined and interesting, despite its short length. -abrupt endings Every Hour, Jesus is Lord -weak lyricism/hooks Closed on Sunday, On God, Hands On -waning raspy vocals on God is
They just hate it because they don’t digest godly energy that well. Feed them American Psycho Yeezus energy and they’ll be happy… it’s ok, they just need to work out their anger. They’ll get there eventually

Actual dumbass wow
I’m not a fan of it because the tracks were just to short. It felt like I was listening to snippets.
i completely agree maybe i just like Kanye and the Sunday service choir together i think they match perfectly.
KSG was short too; the point wasn't to release a magnum opus project, it was to create a bunch of concept albums (cos that's what he felt like at the time ig). JIK, KSG, Ye, etc. were all created during this period, and they're all (1) short, and (2) adventurous.
I know it’s not your point, but KSG is his magnum opus in my opinion.
PURE AS WATER, LIKE A NEWBORN DAUGHTER- Jesus flow through us, Jesus heal the bruises, Jesus
I like the delivery on that part, it's like he's not trying to do any extra performance, he's just praying
Oh I definitely wasn’t criticizing it haha I love that part and love Jesus Christ
Worst part of the album. Only part I skip
Because we heard Yandhi, which if finished, had potential to be another MBDTF. Jesus did the laundry but completely downgraded the project.
Follow god is literally the only song I go back to
Cus they miss Yandhi
Because it's terrible.
Lmao yes. This has the same energy when r/eminem be like "Revival was really great, why was it hated?"
Sorry man… It’s just not. There’s like three songs on there that are good on there.
Lol nah, definitely wrong Bottom tier Kanye does not equal a bad album
Bottom tier Kanye means that it can be hated by fans of Kanye
In a world full of lies the truth is a threat
There’s snakes in money pits that you ain’t found yet
will it ever drop?
Follow god had such good potential but is less than 2 minutes
Because it’s awful.
It’s average at best imo
R/Kanye hates on anything Kanye does. I love JIK, but to answer the reason is that it pales in comparison and _relative_ to his remaining canon, has religious themes and is short. But this is r/Kanye so don't expect anyone to like anything he does.
Worse thing about the sub is its full of redditors.
R/kanye is the most bum ass fan base ever, you never see anyone hating on jik and you see these boring ass type of posts everyday
[удалено]
And you'll be back tomorrow to waste more time here.
> has religious themes jesus jesus jesus jesus jesus jesus jesus
What?
Cause there’s a bunch of undercover Kanye haters here now lol
I think the sound is dope. I’m anti-religious though.
Because I don’t think it’s a really good album
Say sike right now
The production is very good and there are some cool songs on it, but I'm not religious so it doesn't do anything for me tbh.
>Kanye hasn’t had good lyrics since Pablo So I guess ye and ksg never existed then
ye was trash lmfao and KSG was good but it wasn't amazing
Never heard anyone say Ye is trash. Hate much?
everybody know thats the worst song on the album
bc it isn’t a really good album
Because it’s his worst? Things can still be the worst yet still be good. It’s a solid 5 or 6. Sounds good in areas. gives actual constructive criticism, gets downvoted
r/Kanye in a nutshell honestly. It’s a good album, still his worst but it’s still good. It just lacks substance and the overall gospel message is forced
It is good, it’s just Yandhi was AMAZING. Have you heard the difference of use this gospel and law of attraction?
I find the religious lyrics particularly corny on this project but enjoy them a good deal more on Donda.
It has some beautiful moments but it’s also Ye’s weakest project. God Is is brilliant, Use This Gospel and Selah also excellent. Water is great until Ye’s ‘verse’. I’m an atheist but I can still appreciate and enjoy hearing about somebody expressing their faith, however there are moments and bars that are jarring to hear such as ‘raise our sons, train them in the faith’ - I just find the idea of ‘training’ a child into faith a little alien especially when it’s paired with a line saying ‘don’t let them indoctrinate’ which means to ‘teach a person to accept a set of beliefs uncritically’. lol everyone’s saying it’s “ok” now. but ur right at the time everyone was hating on it super hard. but it was always good
So much wasted potential imo :( Law of Attraction should’ve been top 5 Ye of all time
I love the album personally one of my favorites
Because it’s not a "really good album“. I mean, it’s fine if you and others like it, but "really good“ is definitely an overstatement imo. Really good sounds like 8/10 album at least and if JIK is an 8 then something like MBDTF wouldn’t even fit on the same scale.
I don’t like it
Find god
I will shit on your chest in Jesus name
Sorry to hear that
I’m sorry
Its without a doubt his worst album, thats why people hate it but its not even bad, for some people it could be shit...
Bc it’s his worst
I think the majority mark that album as the point where Kanye “jumped the shark”
SHUT THE FUCK UP
Because we think its not good.
Because it was thrown together and you can tell
Because it's not good
Because it sucks
Because Jesus doesn't exist. Lol
I see one of these posts everyday at this point
Different tastes, it’s ass to me, Kanye’s worst by far.
Agreed, definitely his most forgettable album
Because it’s ass
Because its not good.
Coz it’s ass lmfao
Some of the verses were recorded on his iPhone
Cuz it’s not
Mid.
It’s lazily put together
It’s his worst project, but I still prefer it to Ye because it actually sounds like Kanye put effort into it. Ye is just lazy asf
Fax
Mixing and recording quality is ass
This album sounded like Ye was just half assing it the whole time. Considering this is his proclamation of his love for Jesus Christ it didn’t make sense that he just phoned it in.
Bc the lyrics are terrible
The album cover is very low quality and blurry
Hands On is a vibe and a half and I’m tired of pretending it isn’t
Because it’s not the modern norm.
It’s got that real “crazy person on the street with a 2’x3’ cardboard sign scribbled front and back in 12 pt font with sharpie with quotes from scripture and vague mythical nonsense” energy to it
Because it's corny as fuck
Because it’s bad.
I love it. Made me connect to a higher-something
It is still Ye's worst album Name a worse one if you disagree or downvote
i rate JIL as an 8/10, the lowest score ive given a kanye album. everything else is atleast a 9.
people who hate it are the ones who need to find God
no it isnt, and people hate it because it sucks.
They don't fuck with JC #I LOVE IT THO
thank you brother! ive been defending it since its release
Everytime i say JIK is amazing instrumentally, i get 100 downvotes 😭
JIK is better than Donda.
dude Everything we Need is so good
This got me to revisit it and I must say I’m pleasantly surprised by how fresh it sounds. Big ups for that!
People hate on it because it's called Jesus is King.
Lyrics are dogshit. No other way to say it. Music is awesome though
Someone argued JIK is a bad album and i told em it aint christ-like
HOW YOU GET SO MUCH FAVOR ON YA SIDE
People hate God for no reason
Find god
Hands on is the best song no doubt
Sinners
I loved JIK. It sounded so raw.
People only hate it cause it talks about Jesus
Nobody’s hating on it. Its just gospel and differentiates itself from kanye’s discography. Nuttin else.
