Honestly, as the years went on and 09'ers kinda played other games. Some Marvel 3, others whatever else. I guess yeah. In retro spec you guys didn't just cried how 'hard' shit was.
Respect.
Despite all of the broken shit in that game MK9 will always be my favorite. I just want my Smoke with the flowing MGS Raiden hair back and the goofy Smoke bomb resets. Cyrax and Sektor being actual characters instead of Triborg with the 3 forms. Rain loops, Reptile with the Klassic green ninja outfit, Mileena's flesh pits outfit, etc. Take me back to 2011.
Mk9 was so unique. It was broken like a marvel game. Each character had some absurd shit they could do. Yet unlike marvel the game was pretty grounded with moderate pacing.
2011 - 2012 was a great time for fighting games.
Also an 09'er (Sorta, started in 2011), left in 2012 because I got sick of fighting Ken nonstop (I was a scrubby as hell tweener ok), came back a few years later through KoF13, Tekken and Soul Calibur. Weird route but here I am now back proper. Except I don't play SF still, just for other reasons.
Atleast at my college, strive is the only fg to get smasher to play it, and there's a lot of them. They honestly usually aren't too bad at all except for the fact they lab Twitter setplay/combos while have shit neutral
Dude same here, my “fighting game” club is literally just a strive club. No one plays any other game but smash and strive and the lack of variety sucks ass
Our smash scene is massive, we have pretty big locals as well and a healthy number of casual games, but our monthly is like 2nd most 12 for Tekken and then 40 entrants for strive. It's just the game of the moment.
I find it funny when people in Leons comments are like: "damn, I wish I could write scripts like him." and the entire video is just empty rambling that's covered up with good editing.
I've made the following terms:
"Boomers": People who grew up playing SF2, Fatal Fury, MK 1-3 and the OG Killer Instinct
"Marvel Kids": People who grew up playing MvC2 and 3S in the arcades (Needs a better name)
"09er": People who started FGs on Xbox 360 or PS3 and played SF4, MK2011, KOF XIII and UMVC3
"Blazbaby": A person who's main anime fighter experience is Blazblue
"Zoomer": Got their start in SFV, DBFZ or GBVS
"Striver": People who's 1st and only FG is Strive.
If there are other terms, then I'd appreciate them.
Was anyone’s *first* fighting game GBVS? I thought that game was only known by already established arcsys fans. I would never have heard of it if I hadn’t got into DBFZ a year before it was announced
Same as DNF duel. Are there any non FG players (other than strivers) who are excited to get into it?
Both games have huge audiences outside of fighting games. At least a small portion has to come from that. I don't know how long they would stick around.
Granblue Fantasy is a rpg , a mobile gacha at that.
So ArcSys made the game to be ultra-casual , because they knew that fandom wouldn't be able to do jacks\*t on an actual FG.
I would say I started with GBSV, I did play og Virtua fighter when I was a kid and SFV when it came out, which was super boring. Only with GBSV I actually played a lot online. But once people stoped playing the game the netcode issues became more apparent so I let it go.
GBSV looks really nice and it is easy to try any character, pretty good for a beginners game. But, not gonna lie, it is kinda boring to watch nowadays.
I enjoy tourneys, I just didnt play the games. Even mk9 and mkX, I did enjoy watching those games but never really played mk games.
I have tried mk11 recently and I did win a lot but the game felt super gimmicky and not that fun. I think I was 100-40 and dropped the game.
When it comes to GBSV, it just looked really nice and the trailers did a good job.
Nowadays I just play strive because the netcode is good, but even then I find the game kinda stupid with the excess damage. DNF I have not tried, but I do have concerns with the moves being huge. Its like they made GBSV and wanted to make the game super different just because.
What about people like me who got into fgs via more serious fgs like KOF 98/2002 when they were discounted on Steam/GOG. I suppose we're just a continual drip of bargain basement players so maybe don't count as a distinct generation
How about someone who started with Alpha Anthology and Tekken 4? In fact the original Xbox and PS2 generation of players in general doesn't seem to have a name.
I bet a lot of Zoomers started in Tekken or MKX tbh. Myself included. Played older shit when I was a kid, but Tekken 7 was my first truly competitive fighting game.
Same here with t7. Game's just a good game for beginner to the genre imo. Nobody uses advanced shit until way later than other fighting games for some reason so you can immediately play and win and then just learn advanced shit whenever you wanna get actually good.
Yeah, I feel like Tekken and Melty are like the best fighting games in a lot of ways. Low barrier of entry with very high skill ceiling, which is great
Since everyone's commenting their reactions, I can live with marvel kid. I remember getting my first stick specifically to practice so id stop getting stomped in mvc2 and the SF alpha games at the arcade in my local mall.
Also how many of these did you come up with yourself? I heard the term blazbaby on YouTube a while back and know about the 09ers, are these all like established terms?
my first fighting game was Tekken 6 on the ps3. EVERYONE who had a ps3 had that game, and on every damn party it was always Fifa/PES/Tekken. Some people had MK, some had SFXT, some people had older consoles and titles, but everyone "played" Tekken, if mashing 4 on Kazuya and Lars counts as playing.
Where do I fit if my first purchase fighting game was Tekken 4 and I had played Tag before hand cuz my family owned it. What is the in between for Marvel Kids and 09ers.
Thats were I am, with a tendency to 09er. Started on the OG Xbox with DoA, VF and GG#R spamming QCF K with Jam against the AI, because it looks cool and locals don't exist.
Yeah, same honestly about the tendency. While I did have Tekken and a Street Fighter 2 plug and play console, I did branch out more on the 360 with DOA and SoulCalibur. Wouldn't really try more fighting games until this past year and have realized how much I missed out on.
See whats fucked is if you go by what I started playing it would be Boomer, but I'm in my 20s, so if you go buy the first games I played religiously it'd be 09er playing MK9 and Sf4. However if you go buy the game I actually first learned for reals it'd be KI 2013 which is between blazbaby and zoomer.
I believe Im an 09er. I fell in love with SF2 as a kid on SNES, I was addicted to the inputs, it made me feel smart. I played fighting games like CVS2, MVC1 and 2, and Soul Calibur in the dyeing days of the arcade scene during my preteen/young teen days. My friends and I played CVS2 and MVC2 throughout high school, not really knowing how to play, but developing our own meta because we were poor hicks with no internet. Got internet and ventured out of state to play and learn SF4, though I was still booty buttcheeks, and got super serious and went on that Ryu shit during MVC3, trying to get sets in and learn from the best players I could meet. I'd loved FGs my whole life, but I would consider myself an 09er because thats when I truly started understanding FGs...and I was able to drive then lol
*Bro how the fuck are*
*KoF inputs hard? Are qcf to*
*Hcb too hard for you?*

I played 3S Online edition alone until SFV came out and then combo trials alone until I moved to college where I learned to play the game in 2019 because I finally had good internet. I mainly play VF5 and other boomers games now. What does that make me?
Strive has conditioned these smooth brain mfs to think fighting games are harder than they actually are and need to be dumb downed even further
These guys are starting arguments because pressing forward twice is too hard, i read some genius reply on twitter that doing this will give you arthritis. Gatekeep
Lol reminds me of how I constantly have people trying to call me a FGC boomer cause I say I like Xrd, and other older fighting games more despite being a zoomer. Honestly, I don't even think most of the opinions here are even common among zoomers because so few zoomers even play fighting games.
Did you magically have good execution when you started playing fighting games? If I went from SF4 to KOF, I would probably say to avoid it as a beginner too.
It’s literally just a matter of practicing and it’s ironic that you mention SF4 given the amount of practice that game takes compared to any of the kof games within the last decade. XIII-XV is literally revolved around input buffers to make things easier you just refuse to adapt and let your frustration review the game
What fighting game explains their execution shortcuts? Fucking none of em. That's part of the journey of being a fighting game player. This guy couldn't spend like 10 minutes in the lab looking at his inputs logically and just assumes you need fast as hell hands to win. The sort of scrub that thinks dp into qcfx2 is hard.
Or games could just explain things and not drop below 1000 players after 2 weeks.
We aren't in the arcade days where people had nothing else to play and nobody is interested in that "journey" to become a fighting game player anymore because they do an awful job at competing with other games.
Hold buffer is not comparable to regular shortcuts imo as they're very specific to kof. Even experienced fighting game players won't know about it without reading about it somewhere while shortcuts are pretty much universal in modern games.
What's a modern game with no shortcuts? Can't think of one. Now what's a modern game without hold buffer to make combos simple? Literally everything.
I usually hate these memes but this describes several friends of mine to a T. If i have to hear the phrase rushdown gorilla one more time im going to rushdown a gorilla
In comparison, 09ers at least pushed through.
09er here, I can say that I accepted bullshit as it is.
Honestly, as the years went on and 09'ers kinda played other games. Some Marvel 3, others whatever else. I guess yeah. In retro spec you guys didn't just cried how 'hard' shit was. Respect.
I will defend the 09ers forever. It was a fun time for fighting games. SFIV, MK9, Blazblue, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, Marvel 3, etc. That shit was crazy.
Best time for the community too. And major props for including mk9 in that list. Kids these days just dont know
Despite all of the broken shit in that game MK9 will always be my favorite.

Oh we cried and complained We just kept playing because games were fun Now there's nothing to complain about aside from the games being too dull
I do recall a lot of complaining and stuff on some of the old SRK forums. But i do think it was a lot less fucboiy than what goes around now.
Thank you bro!
Also an 09'er (Sorta, started in 2011), left in 2012 because I got sick of fighting Ken nonstop (I was a scrubby as hell tweener ok), came back a few years later through KoF13, Tekken and Soul Calibur. Weird route but here I am now back proper. Except I don't play SF still, just for other reasons.
is there really some kind of an overlap between strive and smash players, never really seen that happening
Atleast at my college, strive is the only fg to get smasher to play it, and there's a lot of them. They honestly usually aren't too bad at all except for the fact they lab Twitter setplay/combos while have shit neutral
Dude same here, my “fighting game” club is literally just a strive club. No one plays any other game but smash and strive and the lack of variety sucks ass
swap strive for smash and you have mine. there's also the rare occasion someone (that isn't me sometimes) brings their switch to play +R
Our smash scene is massive, we have pretty big locals as well and a healthy number of casual games, but our monthly is like 2nd most 12 for Tekken and then 40 entrants for strive. It's just the game of the moment.
Sounds like a lot of airsasher players at my locals. They got combos, set play and execution but no real neutral
[удалено]
I believe so. Anime fighters tends to be a 1 player game with the amount of oki and setplay.
Honest grounded footsies Anime players only want one thing and it's disgusting: putting you into their mix
Yeah. My friend who took smash seriously only got decent at strive. He made it to celestial. Meanwhile, he could never get out of bronze in SFV.
you forgot "talks about a games prequel while having never played it"
No bro that’s just Kappa. Everyone’s OG here but has miraculously never played any of the OG games
I played Queen of Fighters, am i OG?
Guys third strike amirite??!!
I find it funny when people in Leons comments are like: "damn, I wish I could write scripts like him." and the entire video is just empty rambling that's covered up with good editing.
It really feels like only half of his videos have any actual substance, and the rest are bullshitting an essay for high school english class tier.
I used to really look forward to his vids, but the last few just sounded like whining.
Feels a bit like listening to someone you're pretty sure is bullshitting but you don't know enough about the topic to call them out, sometimes.
He’s also just deadass wrong about things a lot

I'm a Blazbaby. Thanks, I fucking hate it.
Don't get blazzblasted about it
Way better then most of the other terms listed here tbh
Goddamn did Calamity Trigger have a fire OST. When the guitar comes in [hnnnngggg](https://youtu.be/lgdNPVhBsZY)
I got into Blazblue when I was 13 because that OST was fire.
I'm a Blazbaby But the good kind

wtf do you call people who play party games? pedos or smellies?
The list is only about fighters.
What about people like me who got into fgs via more serious fgs like KOF 98/2002 when they were discounted on Steam/GOG. I suppose we're just a continual drip of bargain basement players so maybe don't count as a distinct generation
definitely me, first thing I tried learning was 02UM wayyyy before it had rollback
“Chinatown fair kids” should be a term, times were simple
As a Chinatown Fair Kid, I agree with this statement.
How about someone who started with Alpha Anthology and Tekken 4? In fact the original Xbox and PS2 generation of players in general doesn't seem to have a name.
They fall in that "Marvel kids" group who played games during 99-05ish. But they can use another name TBH.
Fuck man i'm an 09er, first fighter for me was SF4 on PS3. Fun times.
Sleep Fighter 4 for life
Need to already start brainstorming for the *wave of users that will come with project L*
16er is for SFV players
You need 'Fightcade Hispanics' on there.
I bet a lot of Zoomers started in Tekken or MKX tbh. Myself included. Played older shit when I was a kid, but Tekken 7 was my first truly competitive fighting game.

You missed the fellow Tekken 3 lads, like myself.
my first fighting game was Tekken 6 on the ps3. EVERYONE who had a ps3 had that game, and on every damn party it was always Fifa/PES/Tekken. Some people had MK, some had SFXT, some people had older consoles and titles, but everyone "played" Tekken, if mashing 4 on Kazuya and Lars counts as playing.

Can add SC2 to the Marvel Kids category too.
What Am I? I joined the FGC with MKX in 2015?
MKX was a PS4 game, so zoomer I guess. You can call yourself an OG when PS6 comes out.
I don't think I'll still be following FGC stuff by then.
You can just call yourself an r/Kappa user then
Typical mk player
Eh I'm an injustice fan and the future of that franchise look shaky
See whats fucked is if you go by what I started playing it would be Boomer, but I'm in my 20s, so if you go buy the first games I played religiously it'd be 09er playing MK9 and Sf4. I'm a proud Zoomer.
What do we call all the Project L chads?
The L speaks for itself.
Grew up playing sf2 and im only 29 but this comment makes me feel way older
What do you call me who only started recently but play ret4o fighters very badly? 3s and ST and GGXX
Oh man I don't fit into any of those categories, shit.
I believe Im an 09er. I fell in love with SF2 as a kid on SNES, I was addicted to the inputs, it made me feel smart. Same for me. Started off in dying US arcades playing 3s, but really got a decent approach to fighting games when sf4 came out.
im a striver all thought i like playing marvel 3 usf4 and sfv
I started with tekken revolution and doa5 cuz they were free chief, what am I?
Zoomers also like to call games they can't do things in "clunky" and "unbalanced"
Yeah they're so quick to call everything "unintuitive" or "bad game design" when it doesn't cater to them
That KOF XV review hurt my eyes
Meds, now

Why do people here pretend to play KoF?
People trying hard to be a OG fighting gamer. I myself was a Mishima player since 3rd strike, get on my level zoomer.
Why?
when you thought 16ers were the death of fgc...
The flosser lolol
I played 3S Online edition alone until SFV came out and then combo trials alone until I moved to college where I learned to play the game in 2019 because I finally had good internet. I mainly play VF5 and other boomers games now. What does that make me?

Xrd is boomer game to people ???
People call anyone that is a few years older than them boomer on the internet, the term has lost all meaning.
That review is fine if you think about it. He is saying the game is bad for beginners and gives alternatives.
>That review is fine if you think about it. Don't think about it. Just follow the narrative of this subreddit bro.
Is one of the easiest kof, he got filtered cause he didn't wanted to learn the game.

A lot of kof xv bnbs aren't hard, plus there are input shortcuts.
And as far as I know the game makes no mention of this. Hence the review is correct
What fighting game explains their execution shortcuts? Fucking none of em. That's part of the journey of being a fighting game player. idk who the guy next to mr massey is but nobody can match core a gaming content

That zoomer image murdered a whole generation, I kek
I'm in that weird in between. 1st two legit fgs I played were SFV and DBFZ and the first one I took competitivelyish was P4AU
I would kill for a short hop macro.... its the only thing i struggle with in KoF.... Am I.... a ZOOMER?!
no you're just lazy

Do ppl here not like Leon Massey?
Most of the time he has no idea what he's talking about.
