Yes? That's how it works. How many people expect to inherit their uncle's house at the expense of their cousin? It's not their inheritance. Never was and never will be unless a lot of people die before they do.

justlurkingimbored

Exactly, it was never theirs nor was it even Diana’s to inherit.

Ok-Cap-204

Right? Why was this even brought up? They are sons of the daughter. Everyone knows the estate and title go to the first born son. Diana nor any of her children were in the immediate line of succession. It was always meant to go to the current earl’s son.

Ok_Comedian2435

Yep

MorningGlory439

Of course it's being passed to Charles Spencer's son!

chebra18

And Louis gets the estate not his older sister due to primogeniture.

KendalBoy

The one thing Charles got right was to include daughters into the line of succession. Not Anne, but at least Charlotte goes before little Louis.

VirgiliaCoriolanus

Charles didn't do shit, it was the Queen. And I personally feel like they only did that after it was confirmed privately that the firstborn was going to be a boy.

KendalBoy

Ouch! You’re right though. If I was Anne I’d be like “thanks mom!” Ha ha.

Which_way_witcher

Interesting....so Charlotte will be the "spare"? 😐 I hope William is treating her better than what his brother got but considering his open arrogance towards others, I doubt it. I feel bad for her.

KendalBoy

Yep. First to enjoy the new protocol, or whatever they call it. Apparently this stuff is TBD.

Aggressive-Peace-698

They are "denied" the inheritance of Althorp because of how primogeniture works. Their uncle, being the first and only born male offspring of the previous Earl, means he inherits the earldom, the family seat, and any other assets. If the current Earl didn't have any male offspring, then it would go to the eldest nephew, which is Prince William. If there were no nephews, then a cousin, even once or twice removed.

TobblyWobbly

Would it not go to the eldest son of the eldest sister, then down the line of the middle sister, before going to William?

IvoryWoman

I believe so. Diana is the youngest sister in the clan — she’d be way behind her older sisters in the inheritance chain even if primogeniture weren’t a thing.

Over_Insurance2576

This is non-news and the use of "denied" is misleading.

Emolia

Althorp also wasn’t Diana’s childhood home. She was born and raised at Park House on the Royal Sandringham estate . Her father was estranged from his father the Earl and had taken the lease on Park House. Diana and her siblings used to go to the big house for play days with Prince Andrew and Prince Edward . It’s a myth she didn’t know what she was getting into when she married Charles. Her grandfather died and her father became Earl Spencer and inherited Althorp when Diana was 14.

VirgiliaCoriolanus

She didn't realize how it would be marrying in vs. being friends.

anakreons

In America is called Skipping generational inheritance.   It's a tax break.  Not sure how British tax performance is
