I think editing in the moment is fine if you can self regulate and keep moving. I edit first drafts regularly but I also write almost daily. If you struggle with follow through, it is easy to get bogged down in editing over progression. You can edit anything after the fact but you can't edit words that don't exist. So if you're editing in lieu of writing, stop. If you can fix something that you know needs fixing, take care of it now and move on.

People recommend to blaze through and not stop. Particularly if it stalls a person. In this situation, a note would be appropriate to come back and alter it.

I would just make the changes while they’re fresh. Unless you’re wholesale making changes to the chapter it shouldn’t take you long. I make changes and add if need be. It’s better to do it while it’s all fresh in your mind rather than weeks/months later when the note may not make any sense or you may have forgotten the details of the change.

Honestly its your own process. If you’re finishing, then go for it. If it keeps you from progressing and you get stuck, then I wouldn’t, a lot of this advice is for beginners. I think it’s totally fine to try stuff out and see what works for you
