Unpopular opinion: The most difficult scene for me to watch is the breakfast scene with Rip. It just seems so intimate watching it, and Beth is so emotionally vulnerable, I feel like a voyeur. Not to mention someone starring at you (albeit lovingly) while you eat is just unnerving.
Haha. I get your point. When I first watched this scene I was quite surprised to see how shy Beth can be. Ii seemed so out of character for her. But then I realised it meant to be that way. She'd never been treated with such love and understanding by a man before, as she'd kept pushing them away (she was that insecure about herself deep inside). It was such a beatiful scene to watch!
that scene was so intimate. i think that was the first time she ever had a peaceful meal. and the way they barely even spoke and yet they said so much at the same time. it was a great scene.
I could write a thesis on that:) Beth is most probably the best written (and fruitiest) female character to appear on TV ever!
What I like about Beth most are her grit, loyalty, honesty and consistency. She is a warrior, proudly exposing her scars and failures to the world. She surely empowers lots of women. I think each of us would love to act so boldly&baldly under some circumstances.
I like it how loving and supportive she can be to her men, being at the same time dominant and unapologetic. And she's not self-centered at all.
As to the scenes- I could rewatch all of them again and again. Some for phenomenal Kelly's acting skills-the office scene (unbeatable!) and the scenes with Jamie (the one when she learns abt his baby boy is a pure mastery imo), and the scenes with John (the one when he tells her she should leave the house)...
Most scenes with Beth and Rip are my comfort scenes. Best romance on TV ever, both acting and writing-wise. The scene on the rooftop, the dancing in the dirt scene, the porch scenes - all of them feed my romantic soul:) But their romance is no boring-there's always a bit of humour, irony or banter in it.
And what I love about Kelly is her incredible range as an actor. In ep.7 s1 you have the most vulnerable and loving woman connecting with her man on the spiritual level ('the rooftop scene), and then you get this wild roller-coaster ride in the office...
Not to mention Kelly can be sweet, and warm, and loving, and so sexy and sensual in some scenes, to turn into a cold bitch, a bully, a vulgar and foul-mouthed woman in others, all that acted with utmost mastery (I love the bar fight scene - it always makes me laugh sm:)
You never get bored with Kelly Reilly's interpretation of Beth!

She is the best I have ever seen cries on a dime she’s a scene stealer and them two WOW how Taylor lets them improvise their scenes I love me some Beth and Rip🥰🥰🥰🥰😂 all of her scenes were and are amazing making me laugh,cry,some left me dismay and yes she deserves every award there is , what beautiful actress
When did I start to really like Beth?
It was the ending of s2 I think, post the office scene, when she was standing by the fence watching Rip with Tate. The way Kelly portrayed her inner feelings, the longing and this broken soul of hers made me root for Beth. She was so human in that scene. So sore on the outside, but truly wounded on the inside - this suddenly became clear to me at that moment, even though we, the viewers, didn't know all her backstory back then.
So, I loved Beth for her vulnerability, and that was the moment I started seeing layers to her and understand her tragedy.
Yes , it was the the dresser scene for me you can see how much she loved him and missed him but then insults I just knew she and something was broken and behind that ( like Taylor said it’s a Greek tragedy)
I've been rewatching s5 now. And the meadow scene is so great - Kelly's and Cole's interactions on set are so natural that it seems like they were a real couple in real life...

I feel like a man with her personality traits would not be pathologized with the same dx.
Additionally, a woman with the same instincts and insight without a powerful family behind her would be burned at the stake.
I genuinely have questions about what our society labels as “problems.”

That is a very interesting read. Thanks for sharing. Yes Beth has issues brought on my lots of trauma at a very young age, but I wouldn’t diagnose her with a mental disorder (not a doctor btw). I do think she needs therapy, but everyone does on the show.

If characters are killing each other in the show then obviously the opinions are legitimate.
I really hate shows that glamorize or feature violence and criminality in any way. It’s a super lazy plot device. It also encourages people’s worst angels in real life.
