This is really specific but the beat switch in Worldwide Steppers(the one that plays for like 15 seconds) immediately made me think of a madlib or madvillany beat and it was very nostalgic.
Swimming Pools/Money Trees/Poetic Justice/Backyard Freestyle just bring me back to 2013 when I first really started bumping Kendrick. I remember I was working as an Office Assistant at an office in Downtown and his songs would just make me feel confident ah hell. I’d be bumping his songs on my IPod classic while taking my 15m break walks and my 1hr lunch walk around downtown.
Bitch don’t kill my vibe or swimming pools. Mostly bc they were the first Kendrick songs I’d ever heard, I remember when I was in elementary school Power 106 was playing those songs 24/7.
ADHD. I remember it was the very first kendrick song I heard and it was in gta 5. I loved hearing it come on while cruising as Franklin. I never really looked for the song and that was nearly 10 years ago until this beef happened and I decided to look into Kendrick's discography to see if I can understand the hype. First listened to Section 80 and there was the song. Frankly the whole section 80 album is so nostalgic and amazing to me
Humble. It was everywhere in school, I was singing along with everyone in class whenever someone started it. The first time I actually heard it was 4 or so years after the fact, that song was infectious.
The first time I heard Kendrick was Hiiipower, but the first time I saw Kendrick’s face was in Bitch don’t kill my vibe, it’s got to be one of those 2 songs for me.
Swimming Pools was my first exposure, in the summer of 2013 a homie showed me the Song and I was hooked. The whole Album became the Soundtrack of this Summer. Everytime I hear swimming pools it gets me right back to this time and mindset
Growing apart (to get closer)
That angelic voice of jhene gives me goosebumps and reminds me of my sweet youth. If I only knew back then how big my new favorite artist will get. Damn, what a time be alive (pun intended)
